Years ago, I was professionally diagnosed with a certain personality disorder. Today, I found some new information (to me, at least) about wolf behavior/general temperament. That has me really questioning whether the diagnosis was accurate or if I'm just this way because I'm a wolf and the diagnosis was a misinterpretation of those traits as viewed by a professional.

I can explain away the "identity confusion" as me overcomplicating things by finding parallels between a lot of things and also due to self-doubt. I can explain the dissociation as being a product of gender dysphoria (it tends to only happen when I am at my worst with that; my inability to fully function at present also comes from being gender dysphoric because I find it too much to really handle and this will likely continue until I can transition).

Regardless, I find that this makes a lot more sense regarding me being a wolf rather than me actually having that personality disorder.

I feel I can relax a bit more and I already feel more confident after finding this information. I'm definitely a wolf. Whether I have what I was diagnosed with or not is debatable but the way I see it....either way, in my case, it is because I am a wolf.

I’m normally the type of person that loves categories; loves breaking things down into smaller and smaller pieces to make them easier to handle, or to see how they work.

This has made interacting with my spirit side an interesting and sometimes frustrating task because it’s the exact opposite. It resists being labeled, snarling and lashing out at any I try to apply. I just want to know the details, and they insist that the details aren’t important. What they are is vast, something you are supposed to feel rather than know.

It doesn’t seem to mind being drawn, possibly because art is so open to interpretation, but that’s where my own limitations come in. I’ve been drawing for my entire life but I’m having so much trouble visualizing and representing my spirit. I can’t accurately depict how it moves among the shadows, both within and without them. I can’t show how its dark fur catches silvery moonlight and spins it into a thousand other colors that shift and breathe. And forget demonstrating how its entire form is fluid, seeming to flow and change after every blink of the eye; horns shrinking, growing, and vanishing, becoming a wolf, a woman, or something between the two, wings unfurling then disappearing again.

I may never figure it out completely. I may never even learn its name. But I’m excited to try, anyway!
