Teddy Bear is here!
(CW: Mentions of Horrortale underground & PTSD)
Few Word Characteristics
Quiet
Generous
Gentle (most of the time)
Resourceful
Protective
Introverted
Loyal
Forgetful
Slow to Trust
Inattentive
Information on his design (+ not shown, but still important info)
His time during the famine without food, eating non-magical food, and his head injury caused his magic to be unstable - which led to his body having a sort of forced magical growth spurt. He's 7'3" (221 cm), and has a big-boned, sturdy build.
This drastic change in his body as well as years of fights and repeated minor injuries, has left him with chronic pain. It usually flares up in his head and knees, but he's dealt with it almost everywhere.
His magic is still unstable, but his ecto-body has mostly recovered from the famine. He's even developed a bit of a belly in his joyful enjoyment of food on the surface.
His notebook is always on hand. His injury has caused him to have all sorts of issues, but mostly with his speech and memory. He uses his notes in his notebook to remember things. It's helped him a lot in his recovery, but he still has to reference it often.
His PTSD mixed with the effects of his head injury, leads him to have episodes in moments of high stress, being met with a trigger, or when having a painful migraine. These episodes vary from him being quiet and completely spaced out, to him being violent and angry. No matter which type, he's always exhausted and feeling guilty afterwards. Tilly is the one who is consistently able to pull him out of them.
Mentally he's made lots of progress as well - but he still, and likely always will, have his struggles.
The decaying atmosphere, dust-filled air & living conditions of the underground left his bones an off-white grey sort of color.
In times of stress or during an episode, he often picks at his socket in an attempt to ground himself - the bone there is chipped and sensitive.
He's amazing with animals, they seem to be naturally drawn to him. This, and his want to have his own self-sufficient farm drew him to try out raising chickens. They're more his pets now, than anything, but the household uses their eggs. They're named Nugget, Henrietta, Cluck, Chicken, and Peep. He would like to raise goats as well, but hasn't gotten Tilly and Sans to agree to the idea.
Speaking of animals, he's got an adorable rescue pup, named Dog. She absolutely adores Bear and he spoils her rotten.
He hates the stares he gets in public. So, he often wears a beanie in public to hide his injury. He still gets stares because of his large stature, but at least he's not inviting unwanted interactions or constantly feeling judged.
His eye-light often gives away what he's feeling, and tends to be more expressive than he is.
He's still Sans, deep down. You will never catch him in uncomfortable clothes.
He's got an impressive garden, that he tends to everyday of the season. He likes to challenge himself with difficult-to-grow plants, and enjoys having an abundance of fresh food on hand. He also tends to the grounds of the large skele-house. It keeps him busy since he can't work, and helps him feel like he's contributing to the household.
He's got a short, stubby tail, that has been deemed a weapon by some housemates of his who have gotten in the way of it's wagging before.
He's not much of a gamer, but he discovered Nintendogs and became hooked. You can occasionally find him grinning down at his borrowed DS as he plays it.

oh ngl i just saw gamer zhongli, hu tao and childe a few hours earlier... so now i present to you: zhongli trying to genuinely learn about gaming stuff and being good at it but always getting distracted by childe LOLOL he can't help it, his ginger is so pretty and hot when he concentrates on the game uwu
if the two arent together already, then hu tao is snickering at this observation. she tries to tell taru abt zl's crush on him/tries to give hints but she gets unceremoniously shushed. like zl throwing a pillow at her face (gently). taru is shocked and kind of amused that zl has a more childish side to him. win win. Character Analysis: "The Delinquent One"
Tumblr media
Imagine you're a scientist helping to create a new lifeform on a petri dish with your coworkers. You're not the leader - one came up with the formula and another followed it. Still, you help since these are the ones on equal standing as you.
Goal was to make them in your coworkers' image and indeed the little things took on a life slightly similar to your group. However, they're still fragile in all definitions, so your group gives them ways to become more powerful should they seek it.
And after a miniscule taste of that power, they start wanting to overthrow you all.
They don't even have a full view of the petri dish.
Your coworkers pull away from the project as a result. Surprisingly, though, they don't punish the lifeforms much. As if letting them go out of pity or curiosity.
Seeing that nobody is putting the lifeforms in their place, you step in.
You go, "We literally created you. You won't get what we have because you're objectively weak and you don't even deserve what we have if you're this ungrateful."
And then the lifeforms call you a delinquent.
I think Ascended Gods could be Rher's victory and here's a long-winded answer for why:
I think humans are to Old Gods as micro-organisms are to humans. Mankind will never be on the level of Old Gods if we're this insignificantly small. Like tiny specks of bacteria.
Ancient Gods are concepts. They may have some physical forms when they appear to the player but it's likely always an approximation. Beings like the Old Gods don't have a solid unchanging form like ours. F&H's humans are bacteria on a petri dish and the Old Gods were peering down a microscope - mankind can't simply look up and see the Old Gods breathing down their necks. They're too small and too far away.
The Old Gods have long since left the laboratory anyhow.
Tumblr media
We don't have info on how these reptile beings were created and by which Old God, only that they were there before humans. However, there are hints of these reptiles having ascended into the Greater Blights. These are what they turn into when they become New Gods.
Nothing states of the Old Gods being against the Greater Blights, which means these reptiles seemingly haven't rebelled in the way that humans had. Which means the Old Gods had been open to the idea of mortals becoming New Gods, before humans started abandoning their creators.
I'll rattle off some well-known bits about the Old Gods to point something out, bear with me.
Sylvian has a deep love of humanity. If she had a say in the human New Gods' formation, she may have done it out of pity for her beloved ones.
Gro-goroth has his extensive curiosity. If he had a say in the human New Gods' formation, he may have done it for curiosity's sake.
Rher possibly took part in the New Gods' formation. We have no evidence that he took an anti-human stance before they become New Gods.
Vinushka, Vitruvia, and the unnamed Old Gods / their servants - we don't know enough of to speculate. But given that only Rher is noted to actively gatekeep humanity's godhood, it can imply that nobody other than Rher cared enough to be against it.
It's easier to fall under an anthropocentric lens. If one Old God's love for humanity leads to losing your mind and being enslaved to base desires, it's understandable to be wary of what an Old God's hate for humanity would do.
Regardless of Rher's opinion of humanity, though, it'd be black-&-white to render him a simple villain.
Tumblr media
From Rher's perspective, it could be something like humans having too much of an ego to know when they're making bad choices.
Being a New God was a trap, a false solution for incomprehensibly large problems. 'Making a fuss over temporary solutions to the point of throwing away devotion to the ones who created you,' is understandably frustrating to witness.
Tumblr media
Rher's supposedly the God of hidden truths. Moonscorching is to forcibly pry what's buried in the subconscious, the person reaching the limits of their sanity and losing themself to inner horrors. Despite that, his moonlight is considered his "gift" to humanity.
He's also been the last known Old God to observe mankind. If he's doing the equivalent of hatewatching, then he's not really doing a good job at it... letting both The Girl and Reila ascend like that.
That's why I don't think he's necessarily rooting for humanity's failure. I think that Rher may want mankind to face the truth of their limitations - if people can't face the dark truths within themselves, they'd never face the dark truths within the rest of the petri dish. They shouldn't even try.
And there's been an obvious history of humans continuously failing. Most knew the perils that seeking godhood entails and how weak New Gods are compared to Old Gods. This truth, to him, is frustratingly in plain sight.
Yet mankind still chooses to seek higher means of power.
Tumblr media
But the Ascended Gods? Humanity can become as powerful as Old Gods in convoluted situations like Alll-mer, the God of Fear and Hunger, and Logic.
It's not the same situation as the New Gods. There may have been arrogance and ego in wanting to have human Old Gods, but it's not simply that. Plans have been detailed in order for these mortals to ascend. Being Ascended takes having to throw parts of your individuality away in order to achieve humanity's goals, the opposite of holding onto the ego.
And the Ascended Gods have driven the species to greater heights the way New Gods couldn't.
It's like humans have identified a limitation, have devised a plan to patch that limitation, and it finally worked.
Tumblr media
I think that's why Rher tells Pocketcat to stop going after The Girl. That's why Rher lets a Termina contestant power-on Logic. For once, humanity has done what he's wanted them to do: be humbled.
God of Fear and Hunger gave humans a greater sense of limitations pertaining to fears and hunger, and this led to humans focusing on creating manmade technologies to overcome it.
Logic will give humans a greater sense of limitations pertaining to technology. By this, Rher can assume it will also lead to humans focusing on how to overcome this limitation.
F&H1 and F&H2 come off to some as if his schemes have been foiled. 'Another human ascended despite The Delinquent One's best efforts'.
Sure, he may still hate what humanity had done to the Old Gods. He may still hate the idea of New Gods. It's unlikely that he'd ever be compassionate toward humans, he's definitely no misunderstood ally of humanity.
But do I think Rher won alongside the player in the end.

ok sorry i'm going to ship hate again
some things in genshin fandom really just don't make sense to me. ie somehow the most controversial ships at least have canon material, whereas some ships are decently popular but literally only eyecandy with 0 substance. like why are you doing this, they don't even have mutual voicelines or story mentions, they've NEVER interacted, would have 0 reason to even in future storylines, the only reason you like them is because they're lesbians together or smth
yes this is about yan.tao and shen.lan

The recent Lost Children comic (which I enjoyed!) dealt with the fates of a lot of unaccounted-for child sidekicks. Secret is back! The Newsboy Legion is back! Etc.!
But I recently encountered one such character who should have been among that group. What happened to Joshua Terrill, aka Spitfire? He's Ray Terrill's half-brother, thirty years his senior...but he's also only eight. And he completely disappeared in 1996 shortly after being introduced.
Story time!
Joshua was born in 1946 to Langford "Happy" Terrill (the original Ray) and his first wife, Gayle. He inherited his father's light/energy-based powers but with greater intensity and became the Ray's sidekick for a while, using the codename Spitfire.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #18)
He had a lot of power at a very young age and didn't know how to control it. In times of heightened emotion it was quite dangerous. The powers also seem to have affected his aging (perhaps similar to how his father's aging has been slowed/stopped), and he started to mentally regress. By the time he was eight, he had the mentality of a four-year-old.
And then one day he got upset when his father didn't return from a mission in time for his birthday, and he accidentally destroyed the house...and his mother.
Happy's solution to this was to drug Joshua's food, stash him away in a cryogenic chamber buried in the middle of nowhere, and pretend this kid never existed.
Forty-one years later, some guys fool around with the site of the buried chamber, and Joshua, not a day older than in 1954, is on the loose.
We find out that he's got enough control of his powers to use them to convert a truckload of corn into popcorn.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #18)
But he's scared and confused and desperate to find his dad, and unfortunately this results in lashing out with his powers at almost anyone who comes near him, regardless of intention.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quite possibly ends up killing a few people here.
Not that he seems to realize that. He's still a small child who talks to cows.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #19)
At one point, he thinks he's found his dad, but false alarm, it's the villain who's been impersonating Happy for a while (long story).
Tumblr media
Soon it's Christmas. This child is still on his own and without shelter in Colorado in the middle of a snowstorm. His efforts to get Santa's attention fail.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #20)
A couple happen to find him and naturally are concerned. Where is his family?
Tumblr media
He's actually a sweet kid when he doesn't feel threatened.
But Nadine Terrill, his father's second wife (now divorced), isn't too pleased when he shows up. She knows her ex-husband had another son from a previous marriage who was born in the 1940s, but an eight-year-old child claiming to be his? Clearly the product of an affair from when they were still married.
Tumblr media
Now that they have a lead on Happy's whereabouts, Joshua flies them out to Philadelphia, where they hang out at Ray's empty apartment for a while and Joshua spends a lot of his time floating around upside-down because why wouldn't you if you had flight.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #21)
When he finally meets Ray, his initial impression is to attack him, but Ray's not having that.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #22)
But once Joshua knows who this strange young man is (although it's unclear if he has grasped that this is his half-brother), he takes to him immediately.
Tumblr media
And he jumps back into his old role of sidekick when Ray must go and protect his mom.
Tumblr media
He continues to fight when Ray is removed from the equation, but unfortunately...he ends up destroying Nadine's house.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #23)
But ultimately he helps Ray take down the villain.
Tumblr media
And gets ice cream.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #24)
It's been a long, exhausting day. The Terrills stay the night at Nadine's friend's house, and Joshua gets put to bed.
Tumblr media
But he doesn't sleep well.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #27)
And when he wakes up disoriented and terrified from a nightmare...
Tumblr media
His father finally catches up to him, but Joshua mistakes him for the imposter he met earlier.
Tumblr media
(The Ray 1994 #28)
In a state of extreme panic, he runs away.
Tumblr media
Nadine survives the explosion, but her friend does not. Joshua has inadvertently killed again.
Ray goes after him, but Joshua has expended so much energy that his powers give out and he collapses mid-flight into the ocean.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is rescued before he can drown, and the next we see him, he is back in bed at Ray's apartment, sleeping peacefully.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's the last we ever hear of this child. The series ended with this issue, Ray got regulated to guest appearances and team outings without much (if any) acknowledgement of his personal life, and Joshua was never even mentioned again.
So what happened to him?
Putting him back in the cryogenic chamber shouldn't be an option; not only is it unethical, it did nothing to solve his problem--rather, exacerbated it.
And how much of what we know about his background is true? We only know what Happy tells Nadine about him, and although she has demanded that he tell her the whole truth, he has a history of lying and manipulating, so everything he says is potentially questionable.
What we see of Joshua's behavior does seem to back up the story. He does get overwhelmed by emotion and uses his powers in destructive, sometimes deadly ways. His mentality does indeed seem to be that of a child younger than his physical age. But is he really as hopelessly uncontrollable as his father makes him out to be? Under normal circumstances he seems fine. Whenever he does lash out, his narration reveals that it's not erratic; he's in frequently in circumstances that would terrify any child, and he's trying to protect himself. Within less than a day, he destroyed his house, inadvertently killed his mother (...or did he?), and his father drugged, froze, and abandoned him. That would be incredibly traumatic.
Surely there's a way that his out-of-control powers could be restrained. Earlier in the series, it's shown that Happy has the ability to basically hypnotize Ray into believing he's lost his powers. Why didn't he try that with Joshua, if only as a temporary solution?
Ray's powers are greater than his father's, though, so if anyone could find a way to help Joshua out permanently, it would likely be him. After all, it wouldn't be the first time in this universe that a hero had to straighten out a younger counterpart's unmanageable powers (as Wally did for Bart in 1994).
So the ideal ending would involve not only Joshua learning to better control his powers but also getting the emotional support he needs (which would further help in that direction). Handing him over to the care of his father full-time would be a mistake, but the entire family should get the opportunity to work on rebuilding their relationships.
And with some stabilizing, maybe the Ray and Spitfire could be a thing again. Maybe Joshua, like his brother, could join a team. He's not too far in age from Damian or Jon or Chris.
But we never do get to find out, and since Ray and family have since been rebooted and made almost completely different, it's unlikely Joshua will make an official reappearance.
Doesn't stop me from having questions, though.

Hey, remember when I was making refs? Yeah, me neither. Anyways, here's Tilly!
(CW: Mentions of Horrortale underground)
Few Word Characteristics
Sassy
Knowledgeable
Generous
Insecure
Cautious
Private
Self-Destructive
Verbose
Information on his design (+ not shown, but still important info)
Without a steady magical food source, his magic grew increasingly unstable which caused a very late-stage, very painful forced growth spurt. He's 8'3" (251cm) and lanky.
This growth spurt, as well as years of being in a constant survival state, has left him with some severe chronic pain in his back. He's been to physical therapy and has a routine to help with the pain. He takes it day by day, but he's making progress. Some days, he doesn't need his cane, others he does, and some days he can't even get out of bed.
His tail also grew during the famine, but it's not as expressive as it once was, just like himself.
His teeth were beyond messed up upon coming to the UT universe. He's since had lots of work done to fix them, and he's in the late stages of braces, but his time with them keeps getting extended - which he's very frustrated with.
His sunken sockets left him with horrible eyesight. He's nearsighted, but he can't see much without his glasses.
He uses washi tape to keep his glasses on. He refuses to get a strap for his glasses, claiming it makes him look like he's wearing goggles. He has a collection of washi tape, he has a pattern for every occasion.
He's missing his thumb, pointer finger, and part of his middle finger on his right hand. This was an injury he sustained early on in the famine. He's righthanded, so he's since had to relearn how to write with his left.
He still has a love of puzzles, though he's stopped building his own. He usually sticks to classic puzzles but he also enjoys crosswords, 3-D puzzles, and sudoku.
He's developed a love for reading, too. Being limited on what he can do physically, he found that reading is actually quite fun. He reads all sorts of genres, but he especially loves non-fiction.
Because of this love for reading, he has lots of odd knowledge on all sorts of topics and he will info-dump about them.
This hobby of his drove him to become a librarian. It's a nice, quiet job, and he enjoys being surrounded by all sorts of knowledge.
He's got quite the sweater collection.
He has the same tattoo Papyrus has, and he absolutely hates it. It's a reminder of how his Undyne ultimately betrayed him and what she became.
His PTSD doesn't often show in extremes like Bear's does, but its still something he struggles with.
He looks out for Bear, just as Bear looks out for him, but he often ignores some of his own needs when it comes to Bear.
He's sassy and blunt, and has even less of a filter than Papyrus does. His sass is loving, and mostly teasing, but his big personality is just hiding some of his major insecurities.

The teenage kraken movie was actually not bad! I think it speaks to its target audience and ages a little below as well (always a nice touch) and the plot is pretty simplistic while focusing on more emotional development in the characters.
Really fun clown car animation though. Like another branch from the same tree hotel transylvania sprouted from, but more like everything is animated like a gummy snack. Blends the invertebrate kraken qualities really well with Gummy World Rules so they don't look frightening, but there's neat choices in all character designs that help the krakens' odd proportions not look out of place. Jaboukie's character's hips literally start at his elbows, but it works weirdly well.
Neat stretch and squash animation :3
