chan being his usual chan self, kept insisting to you and his members that he didn’t want anything special planned for his birthday this year. when asked what kind of gift he wanted, he just hit everyone with a simple “uh.. i dunno” every time.

when you think about it, this is a good thing but also a bad thing. since this was your first year being with him on his birthday you wanted to plan something special for him. or at least get him a gift. picking out a gift for him seemed impossible.

 perfume? jewelry? clothes? room decor? you just couldn’t figure it out. it’s not that you didn’t know what he’d like, it’s just he never expressed wanting anything specific. 

still you wanted to treat him on his special day. the two of you were cuddling on the couch when you say “babe?” 

“hmm?” he replied, nuzzled in your neck.

 “what do you want for your birthday?” 

“nothing” he hums. sitting up, 

you reply “you sure? nothing at all? i still want to get you something.” 

“mhm. i just want your company. spending time with you all day is all i need” smiling as he speaks. you feel your cheeks flush at his confession. 

“i.. alright channie. whatever you want.” giggling, you both sit up and he engulfs you with a hug and it makes you feel as though you can feel his love radiating through you through the action. 

the two of you do in fact spend the entire day together. starting with a little run to the local café to get your favorite coffee. 

then chan squeezes your hand softly and says “how about we go to the beach?” you nod. 

a short drive later you arrive. the sun shining bright, waves gently crashing to the shore. 

everything in this moment is perfect. you never want to let go of this moment. 

this moment with him.

 he seems so happy. by just spending time with you on this day, it seems as though all of his worries go away and he feels at peace with everything. 

standing there, toes in the sand, he never lets go of your hand. grabbing your waist softly with his free hand, he stops walking to stare at you. 

taking in every detail of your face. 

tracing every inch of it as he slowly lets go of your hand. you can see the love in his eyes. so pure. so real. 

you smile. smiling back, he then pinches your cheek and leans in and gives you the softest, sweetest kiss you’ve ever had. he just loves you so much that he couldn’t help himself. 

he pulls away. “you’re so beautiful. i love you so much. thank you for spending today with me.” now showing off his dimply smile. 

“i love you too channie. and of course i’d spend today with you, all i wanted was for you to spend your birthday well and enjoy it and it seems like that was the outcome.” you say smiling back.

 he engulfs you in a hug once more and the two of you turn to watch the sunset together. Hand in hand, not for a second thinking nor wanting to let go.

“babe! are you ready yet!?” you yell from the kitchen.

you and jungwon were celebrating his birthday today. the two of you decided you would have a picnic together in the park since the weather was decent and it wasn’t too far from your apartment.

“yes, i was just grabbing the blanket from upstairs,” jungwon smiles as he meets you by the door.

“okay, good,” you gave him a quick peck on the cheek. making his dimples stand out even more as he melted in your embrace. “i just want this to be… perfect.”

“y/n. it’s already perfect since i’m doing it with you. now come on! let’s not wait till dark, hm?”

you sensed his joking manner yet still couldn’t help but stare in awe. nonetheless, he was right. any date no matter the occasion was special because you spent that time together. even if he had a busy schedule or if uni was making you busy, he always found a way to divide his time for you. always making time for you.

through the tiredness and stressful weeks. none of it mattered to him as long as he could spend the rest of it with you. he adored you. you’re his everything. if he could, he’d drop everything and only spend his time with you. that’s how much he loves you. he wants to spend every waking moment with only you.

within reason, of course. and sure, the two of you had your arguments or times when you’d want to spend some time alone. you needed that sometimes and that was okay. he understood all of it. your good days, the bad…

he was always there for you when you needed it as you were for him. never a dull moment with you in his eyes. you were perfect, you are perfect.

“what?” he asked as he noticed you staring.

you shook your head, “nothing. let’s go,” you smiled.

when the two of you arrived at the park and set everything up, it was just nearing sundown. everything around you looked pretty. the wind gently blowing as the birds chirped. singing the two of you a gentle song.

you both just sat there for a while. content in the comfortable silence you shared. it was peaceful. yet another thing you loved about each other. you were able to sit there enjoying each other’s company without having to say a single word. just being by each other’s side was enough.

“wonnie.”

“hmm?” he turned to you as you reached into your bag to grab his birthday gift.

“happy birthday!”

you then held out a medium sized box that had a ribbon tied around it. “here, open your present,” you beamed.

his smile was so wide. so happy that he got to spend his birthday like this. with you.

“thank you, baby.”

he grabbed the box from you and carefully started to untie the ribbon, trying not to ruin it. peeking up at you as he did so.

“so suspenseful,” you giggle.

“oh fine,” he sarcastically huffed.

when he finally got the box open, what was inside was a few of his favorite movies, snacks, a cat plushie, and some of your favorite pictures of the two of you together. you even decorated the insides of the box with ‘happy birthday jungwon’ written all on heart shaped stickers.

“i love it.”

jungwon could feel himself start to tear up. since you were watching him this whole time, you noticed right away. even after he tried to turn away from you.

“what’s wrong?”

“i just love it so much. so so so much, baby thank you. i love you.”

“aww, jungwon. i love you too. i’m glad you love it.”

you couldn’t help but cry along with him. the love you both shared for each other was just that strong. no expensive drawn out gift could ever replace the love and care that went into this one. and he knows that he’ll do nothing but cherish it forever.

christmas morning didn't quite feel the same this year. even with the snow on the ground outside and some still falling past your window, it's as if something was missing. nothing exciting was happening, and that was getting to you.

it was early, 7 am. but you still decided to text hyunjin to see if he was awake yet.

you: morning babe, merry christmas!! hyunjinnie: merry christmas to you too babyy <3 hyunjinnie: what are your plans today? you: i actually didn't have anything planned... hyunjinnie: can we spend the day together then?? i still haven't dropped off my presents for you yet ^^ you: ofc!!! what time will you be here??? hyunjinnie: as soon as i cannnn hyunjinnie: like I'm getting ready rn lol you: okayyy you: drive safe pls. the roads are still a little slick okay? hyunjinnie: i will don't worry <3 <3

15 minutes and he was knocking at your door. a little later than he usually takes to get there considering his apartment is only seven minutes away from yours.

nonetheless, you brush it off thinking it's probably nothing and just due to the current weather.

"babe hurry! i'm freezing my ass off out here."

"coming!"

you quickly go unlock the door for your boyfriend, only to be greeted by him holding a crate for pets and an arm full of gifts.

"what's all this? i thought when you said 'presents' you meant one or two?"

"i know, i know. and originally i did only plan to bring...three?" hyunjin put on a nervous type of half smile

"hyunjin"

"fine. but you know i couldn't help it! as soon as i see something i know you'll like, i have to get it."  he playfully rolls his eyes

"don't you wanna see what i got?"

"of course i do." you laugh

hyunjin puts the gifts down on the coffee table that sits in front of your couch, then sits down the carrier so that he can let out kkami.

"surprise!"

"hi, kkami! i haven't seen you in so long babyyy." you say, crouching down to greet him

"you were telling me the other day how much you missed him, so I thought this would be the perfect addition to your amazing presents."

"well thank you, because this is exactly what i needed on a day like this. definitely lifted my mood."

"uh, excuse me! did you forget that i'm your boyfriend, not him?" hyunjin dramatically gasps

"of course not, hyun." you giggle

"but in all seriousness, what do you mean? did something happen?"

putting kkami on your lap and getting off the floor to sit on the couch, you sigh.

"well no. and that's sort of the problem. i woke up this morning expecting to be all excited that it's christmas but instead it felt dull, you know?"

"mhm, i get what you mean. but at the same time, I think that's just a part of growing up. it may not be as exciting anymore because you're finally getting a break from work and you aren't staying up late, waiting for santa to arrive. but that's okay. we can spend the day however you'd like, okay?"

"thanks, babe. and.. anything i want?" you raise an eyebrow at him

"of course." he puts a soft hand on your cheek and smiles

"but first we have to put kkami in this outfit I bought him and open our presents." hyunjin laughs

"outfit? let me see!" you basically scream at him

he reaches into his tote bag and pulls out a dog-sized santa outfit and matching hat and hands it to you.

"this is so cute! oh my god hyun. but is he gonna be fine with it on? he seems like he'd fight us if we try to put this on him." you question

"he might, but since i bought it and it's christmas, he's gonna have to just deal with it." hyunjin playfully scoffs

you and hyunjin opened your presents and shared smiles as you watched the other open everything.

kkami indeed fought the two of you when you tried to put him in the outfit. but the two of you got some pictures of him in it in front of your tree. so at the end of the day, it wasn't all that bad.

"should we make some hot cocoa and put on some christmas movies?" hyunjin asks

"sounds great." you smile

spending the day with him and kkami was just what you needed to get out of your holiday blues. couldn't ask for anything more perfect.

hyunjin was scheduled to resume tour today so you wouldn’t be able to see him in person for almost a week until he was able to come home. it pissed you off to say the least. why couldn’t they schedule the tour dates so they consider the members birthdays? the question the plagued your mind every time your boyfriend or his band mates had long schedules on their special days.

if it was aggravating to you, then you knew it had to be for them as well. they often have to plan things ahead or push plans back a few days or weeks.

when hyunjin sent you a voicemail the night he was leaving, reminding you how long he’d be away, you had already fallen asleep.

hyunniebun ❣️: hi, love. just want to say that i love you and hope you sleep well. my flight is in half an hour and i know you won’t see this until the morning since you’re already asleep. i’ll talk to you as soon as i can, ok?

as soon as you woke up the next morning, you grabbed your phone to check for any messages and found the voicemail hyunjin had left. hearing the sadness in his voice as he spoke made your heart hurt. knowing he’s just as pained being away from you. you wish the two of you could run away together. to get away from all the hurt. never have to be apart for more than a few hours at most. but what you didn’t know was, hyunjin felt that he’d never be enough for you never being enough because he’s not always there for you physically. it hurt him to even think about letting you go, but he knew it wouldn’t be as easy as it seemed to quit his job, pack up and leave. he loved both of you and he didn’t know how to weigh in both at the same time. it was draining him mentally day by day.

he knew he had to talk to you about how he was feeling but he didn’t want to worry you. make you feel like he was leaving since that wasn’t what he truly wanted to do. he just needed to get the underlying feelings off of his chest because he felt like he would explode otherwise.

the sun had rose and fallen since you last spoke to him. and with not much to pass the day, you just sat at home after work awaiting his call. your cat, honey accompanying you as you tapped your fingers on the edge of your desk. you had your laptop opened to facetime so you’d be ready as soon as his contact popped up, with nothing else on your mind.

when your laptop flashed the call screen, you sat straight up in your chair and quickly clicked answer.

“hi, baby!,” hyunjin smiled as soon as he saw your face, “i miss you so much already, can’t wait to come home and give you so many hugs.” he frowned a little

“hyune, i miss you too. did you have fun at the first show?”

“mhm, stay had so much energy tonight. it gave me and the boys more energy as well.” he laughed

“that’s good. don’t want you boys falling asleep on stage. i know the jet lag must’ve been bad as soon as you landed, huh.”

“yeah, but we ended up taking naps, and soon after we got to explore the city a little.”

“ooh how fun, did you get to go to any gift shops and eat some good food?” you ask, curiously

“yeah! it was really fun, love. we even wet to an arcade and won some prizes. i’ll be collecting little trinkets and plushies to bring back to you.” his eyes turning to crescents as he smiled

“that’s great. i’m glad everyone is having fun and eating well. make sure to send me lots of pictures.”

“i will. i brought my digital camera and we also picked up some disposable ones. so there’ll be plenty to show you,” he trailed off a little, “besides all of that, how are you holding up?” he asked worridly

hyunjin could see the lack of sleep on your face. dark circles occupying your eyes. he knew it was hard for you to get good rest when he was away for so long.

“i’m doing okay, hyune. i’ll be fine, i promise.” you give him a tired smile

“alright, love. you know you can always talk to me if something is troubling you, right?”

“i know, babe. i promise i will.”

“okay. but there is something i’d like to talk to you about…” he trailed off again, but this time you noticed.

“what is it? did something happen?”

“no, no. nothing in particular happened, it’s just i hate being away from you. and I hate it, but i always feel like i don’t deserve to be with you. i-i’m not there with or for you enough of the time and i know it bothers you too. hell, you can’t even get proper rest when i’m not around and i hate making you feel like that. i’m so sorry i’m not there whe you need me. i wish-” he started to tear up. you could hear the shakiness in his voice.

“hyunjin. it’s okay.” you cut him off

“no it’s not. you know it’s not. i don’t deserve you. you don’t deserve to be treated this way.”

“hyune, baby. i love you despite all of that. don’t say you don’t deserve me, because you do. because i love you and only you and i don’t want to be with anyone else, okay?” your eyes now threatening tears to fall, but you pushed them back. wanting to stay strong for him.

he nods and sniffles before replying, “i know, i’m sorry. i just had a lot on my mind and needed to let it out. i don’t want us to break up either, i just hate having to be separated all of the time. it’s draining both of us so much. i love you too, always.”

“let’s figure this out then, yeah? we’ll get it sorted.”

“yeah. and i promise to plan a real date for us when i get home. something special, just the two of us.”

“it’s a deal.”

he’s still circling you, trying to get every angle possible.

he gets closer, taking more detailed photos now.

it’s not like he’s never been this close before, but something about this feels different.

“you owe me snacks after this, by the way” you say with a smug look on your face

little do you know, hyunjin thinks of you as more than just his model. you’re his muse. he enjoys taking pictures of you, yes. but what he doesn’t tell you is he paints you as well. his eyes light up just thinking of how amazing his work will be. but he knows it’s all because of you. because of how beautiful you are in his eyes. he wishes to show you and the world how you look through his eyes.

he’d never admit that out loud though.

"Riki I swear on everything you love, where is my journal? I know you stole it, now where is it?"

You scream, peeking from your bedroom door. Niki had come over to hang out with you yet he was now downstairs playing some video game with your brother.

just a few hours earlier when he arrived at your house, he had been up in your room waiting for you to bring snacks for the two of you. that's when he saw your journal just barely hiding behind one of the many pillows on your bed. naturally, almost like an instinct he picked up the small book and turned to a random page. Not before thoroughly checking to see if you were on your way back yet of course.

flipping through it, one page stuck out to him. the top of the page was dated December 12th, 2022.

it read, "today kind of sucked. riki spent basically the whole day with his friends. and when he did finally spend time with me, he didn't even notice that I was acting differently. i decided to take eunchae's advice and drop hints to him."

after reading that, niki was dumbfounded. he didn't know what to make out of this, and didn't really understand it until he read the next section.

"i like him... no. i don't just like him, i want him to be my boyfriend but i'm not sure how to tell him. he- he's my best friend. and I don't want to ruin our friendship or get heartbroken if he rejects me. what if he like me back??? I have no clue what I would do if he does like me back. ugh, forget it. I should just ignore my feelings. i don't want him to start acting differently around me because of it."

"holy-" niki started

"hey, niki! did you want the pepero, chips, or both?"

he heard you approaching the stairs he quickly shoved the book underneath your bed and stood near your door frame.

"uh, i'll take the chips i guess."

"you sure? i got strawberry flavor! your fav." you smile, holing up both items

"mm, maybe i'll eat them later, okay?" he laughs

"okay, i'll just leave them on the table and you can grab them whenever."

"why is your face so red, by the way?"

"oh, um.."

"aw did something make my niki blushhh?"

"shut up, it's nothing."

"whatever you say riki." you roll your eyes

"thanks for the snacks. i'll go back downstairs now if that's okay?"

"yeah? why wouldn't it be?"

"no reason, i just mean in case you wanted me to hang out with you instead of playing video games with your brother is all." niki explained

"no, no. go ahead. i'm just gonna watch some tv or something, but I'll come down there after a while." you assure him

he smiles back at you before going back downstairs.

about 30 minutes later, you were relaxing and watching a show when you decided to write an entry in your journal so you looked for it in the usual spot under your pillow. but it wasn't there. so you checked under your other pillow. still nothing.

what the hell? you thought. you get up, scrambling to find it. in your closet? nope, not there. under your mattress? still no.

"ugh, where the hell is it? I just had it yesterday. could've sworn I put It under that pillow." you say out loud, frustrated

finally having enough of this, you make your way downstairs to confront niki.

"i know you heard me. where is it? you were the last person in my room, alone so don't even try to get out of this one."

"well, that sounds like my cue to leave. can't save you this time, buddy." your brother laughs, patting niki on the shoulder

"come on niki, i'm not even that mad about you taking it. just tell me where it is." you explain, sitting next to him on the couch

he turns to face you and sighs, "fine, I did find it. on accident.. and I only read one page I swear!

"niki"

"i know, i know. i shouldn't have. but it was so tempting. I'm really, really, really sorry, y/n."

"thank you for apologizing, but where. is. it?"

"oh, um it's under your bed somewhere." he scratches the back of his head

"okay... and what page did you happen to read?"

you could feel the flush forming on your face and your palms clamming up.

"the page from december 12th..."

damn.

"so you-"

"'what's with you lately?" niki interrupted

"there's nothing 'with me', okay? i just..."

"like me?'

"no! i mean-"

"well, i like you. i have since we were younger."

"i'm calling bull." you roll your eyes, not wanting to believe him

"i'm serious, y/n. i just never knew how to say it. and just like you, I didn't want my feelings to get in the way of our friendship." he grabs both of your hands and brings you a bit closer to him.

"if you like me as much as you expressed in your journal, would you be okay with me being your boyfriend?"

"of course i would, but do you actually like me back or are you just saying that to make me feel less embarrassed? because I'm really feeling that right now."

"i absolutely mean it. been wanting to let that out for so long and I think now is a perfect time, considering the circumstances right now." niki smiles, putting a hand on your cheek. not wanting to let go.

you place your hand over his, smiling at him and the fact that you finally get to call him yours.

"okay, then it's settled. you're my boyfriend now."

niki takes that as a cue to engulf you in a hug. snaking a hand, and resting it on the small of your back.

"i have a surprise for you." he mumbles into your shoulder

"oh? what is it?"

"well if i told you, it wouldn't be a surprise, now would it?

"i suppose not, riki." you laugh

letting go of you slowly, he gets up and walks to the front door to put his shoes on. "I'll be right back, okay? i have to go get it." he replies with a smile.

as niki was walking back to his dorm, he texted jungwon to let him know.

05:20 pm | Niki: hyung

05:20 pm | Jungwon leader hyung: yeah?

05:21 pm | Niki: is the kitten with you rn?

05:21 pm | Jungwon leader hyung: mhm did you want to take him to y/n's or something?

05:21 pm | Niki: yup. can I?

05:22 pm | Jungwon leader hyung: sure, just make sure to bring his food, litter box, and bed if you're staying the night

the walk from your apartment to their dorm wasn't far. just a 10 minute walk there and back, 5 either way.

"here's everything. i put it all in this bag so you'll only have to carry this and the carrier and it's not too heavy. do you need a ride back, or will you be okay on your own?" jungwon questions

"i'll be alright. just need t put a few things in my backpack then I'm all set."

"okay, have fun. you two are dating, right?'

"yeah. we made it official like 20 minutes ago." niki laughs

"me and the rest of the boys had a bet going to see how long it would take for this to happen. luckily it was now. i hope you two do well." jungwon says, patting niki on the shoulder

“wow, who had the longest?”

“jake. he said 7 years.”

the both of them burst of laughing, thinking about how dumb that was.

“well i’m gonna head out, see you in the morning."

soon after leaving the dorm, niki arrived back at your house with your 'surprise'.

he ended up letting himself in since he knew the passcode to your apartment.

"i'm back!"

"yay, are you staying over? it's getting late anyways." you get up from the couch to greet him.

"yeah, i brought my stuff and your gift."

he drops his bag off at the door and walks over to you with the carrier.

"okay, you ready?"

"come onn! show me already."

"alright, alright. close your eyes for a sec though."

"fine." you huff

niki set the carrier on the coffee table before opening it and letting out the kitten.

he grabs the kitten out of the carrier and holds him up in front of you.

"okay, you can open them now." niki tells you, excited to see your reaction.

when you open your eyes, it's like they light up. you're so excited to see that he brought you a kitten.

"oh my god, niki! is he yours?"

"me and the boys kind of take turns taking care of him, which is fun."

"i think that's so cute of you guys."

"but lemme hold him now, he's too adorable and I can't wait any longer." you pout at him, with your arms outstretched

"i think you're adorable." niki smiles back, handing over the kitten for you to hold

he goes to the couch to take a seat before you get the chance to reply, to react to what he had said.

"niki! stop it." you blush, nervous at his confession.

"what? i'm just being honest. you're really cute when you get excited about something. it's nice seeing you like this."

"thanks. just never thought we'd get this far or be together like this, you know? it just seems so unreal."

"mhm, i know what you mean. i was so nervous to let you know how I felt. but now that I know you feel the same, everything's alright."

"his name is rye, i thought it was cute for him. and sure, just get up here already. we have enough snacks here to last us a while too." he laughs back

"aw, it is cute! i love when you get all cuddly like this."

"i'm glad. expect more of it." niki smiles, squishing you farther into his arms.

the two of you ended up spending the rest of the night huddled up in blankets, having your favorite snacks and drinks, playing with the kitten some more, and binging way too many movies until the three of you passed out.

it was all you could wish for. all you've wanted for a while now. you couldn't ask for anything better.
