Apollo and Hyacinthus Headcanons (because i’m bored)

-Hyacinthus is usually a very jumpy person, borderline paranoid because of Zephyrus. So when he sleeps he can be waken by the slightest noise. But whenever he’s around Apollo he would take constant naps, because he feels so safe that he feels comfortable enough to go to sleep.

-Hyacinth LOVES Apollo’s voice but especially his singing. Whenever Apollo would sing to him, animals would literally come up to Apollo just to listen. Is Apollo actually a disney princess in disguise? Tune in to find out! But seriously it’s also because his twin sister has a connection to wildlife, so he kind of has a slight connection as well.

-Apollo has chronic headaches. Sometimes all the prophecies racing through his head at once, when hes not focusing can cause VERY painful headaches, think cluster headaches aka suicide headaches. Hyacinthus doesn’t really know what to do so he’ll just hold Apollo until it goes away

-Apollo is actually the “bottom” in the sexual manner but not because of the reason you think. He wanted to show Hyacinthus that he doesn’t want to “dominate” him and control him like Zephyrus, so he essentially allows Hyacinthus to to take control instead.

-Flowers started to bloom far more often when Apollo was in love with Hyacinth, because the sun was so focused on Sparta then anywhere else. Not too much, but enough to make a difference.

-Apollo took care of Hyacinth even BEFORE they got into a relationship. Thats why Hyacinth never got sick or his injuries healed so much more quicker.

Sometimes I see posts wondering if Patroclus and Hyacinthus would be friends in the afterlife.

And I want to assure you that no. They would absolutely not be. Why would Patroclus and Achilles be fond of one of the best-beloved of Apollo, the god who played a most direct hand in both their deaths?

Don’t get me wrong I see the parallels. But still absolutely not.

I do think Hyacinthus chills with Adonis. In some myths, Apollo is listed as one of Adonis’ lovers. I think out of the three, Apollo would have been the one to give that mortal the most freedom, the most room to breathe.

Similarly, in his courtship of Hyacinthus, Apollo took him to new places and taught him new things.

I think if there is anyone who could really appreciate what this means, it would be the two of them. So. Adonis and Hyacinthus are friends in death. But Patroclus and Hyacinthus would absolutely throw hands because they’re both slightly unhinged and very much in love.

Yeah, Apollo x Hyacinthus had been called "SunFlower" for a while now. I think it was started by a Tumblr user, but I can't remember who. It just stuck with us like that.

Regardless, there is no other ship name as perfect as this one.

@gotstabbedbyapen I didn’t find any Hyacinthus posts to tag you on, so I decided to make one myself! Tis’ my Spartan prettyboy design, that I doodled in class today. It’s how I imagine he looks after being turned immortal. I think that his scar stayed, and there are flowers growing out of the place he was hit, sprouting from his skull… kinda edgy 😅. I live for all these ships with Apollo like Apollo and Thanatos, Cupid, and even the most dumpsterfire ship of all time Copollo (I go feral over these two)

But one ship that stood out to me was Boreas and Apollo, and apparently the Boreads describe Apollo as "Beloved of our sire" And the fact that Koios is basically Boreas' boss makes this so much more better

So basically I'm asking for Boreas and Apollo headcanons 👀

and on the topic of Boreas, I have one extra thing to add there because I personally headcanon that Lelantos, titan of air & moving unseen (and apollo's uncle), used to be the head of the wind gods but was stripped of his title by Zeus post-titan war because he sided with Kronos.

So therefore, both of Boreas's bosses are relatives of Apollo's lmao XD

Imo, Hyperborea was some sort of courting gift or something Boreas gave Apollo. Because here's the thing with Hyperborea:

It's the One Place Boreas does not blow his winds, hence its title of Eternal Spring.

Boreas's palace resides at the southern border of Hyperborea, with gryphons who live in BOTH places.

Three of Boreas's son are PRIESTS of Hyperborea, and serve Apollo when he's there.

Three of Boreas's daughters joined Artemis's hunt (Oupis features in my fic Shattered Minds, btw!)

Hyperborea is literally "over the north wind" in Greek.

I think we can all agree winter is the time Apollo and Boreas hook up lmao XD

Boreas ALSO, in some versions, is a suitor of Hyacinthus, but he clearly doesn't hold any ill-will about Hya & Apollo because let's be real, he would have picked Apollo too XD

So imagine this. Hyacinthus & Apollo making out. Then Apollo & Boreas making out. HECK HYACINTHUS & BOREAS MAKING OUT.

The Hyacinthus Debacle, as I have dubbed it, also created a bit of a rift between Boreas and Zephyrus, which is Sad because they are usually associated with each other in literature, art, ect :(

Family dinners are Awkward. Even more so when Boreas brings Apollo along to the dinners hosted at his place.

They became Especially Awkward when Helios and Selene were still around because then Boreas would have to deal with Helios's Dad Instincts kicking in and staring him down.

(Helios is Boreas's uncle btw!)

And whenever Apollo pops in the visit Eos about light-related things or Astraeus (Eos & Astraeus are the winds' parents) it Still Is Awkward because Zephyrus just. BOLTS out of the room.

He is simultaneously Gay For and Terrified of Apollo.

Also if Asteria tags along with Apollo (because she is shooting stars/night prophecy and Astraeus is dusk/stars) she gives Zephyrus The Death Stare.

He is equally terrified of her, minus the horny.

Apollo turning Hyacinthus into a flower so he can always be under the sun.

Hyacinthus loving life and traveling, as a Prince he never could go far. Flying with Apollo in his chariot, he was bright eyed with wonder at the world. Apollo doing that for him even after death. He turned him into a flower so he could keep enjoying the living world.

Hya one day coming back revived and apollo keeps apologising and apologising for being selfish and not being able to let his soul go. But Hyacinthus shushes him, "I would have gone to the underworld but I would have never been happy as a drifting soul. You know it. You let me keep experiencing the world. As a flower, people planted me in gardens and cities. I felt the sun and rain. And I saw you still. You often visited me and would tell me stories. I was happy. Thank you."

Apollo just cries into his shoulder.

the wider pjo fandom is very ship orientated. I genuinely wonder if one of the reasons apollo isn't more popular is because of his lack of shipability. like his age makes any ship options really messy in the first place because he feels too old to ship with the teens as apollo but too young to ship with the adults as lester. normally the protagonist ends up with another member of the main cast, but the only other main cast member in ToA is meg, who is DEFINITLEY too young for him plus they have a familial relationship, so no ship options there. he has great chemistry with his exes, but that's just it, they're exes. his exes either now hate him or have died, so you can't really ship them in the present. apollo's already a dad and has had many relationships in his life, so shippers can't latch onto the "first love" or "one true love" tropes that other riordanverse ships have. ToA focuses much more on platonic relationships instead of romantic, so that again reduces the amount of shippers reading it. apollo as lester isn't conventionally good looking and a big part shipping is how attractive people find the characters involved. and of course apollo's the only protagonist in the riordanverse to remain single by the end of their series.

think about how popular will is. do you think he'd be that popular if solangelo didn't exist? think about how the most viral PJO and HoO posts are about percabeth. the fandom loves shipping, and unfortunately apollo suffers because of that
