Beomgyu and Taehyun, two best friends both majoring in philosophy and living together in a dorm not too far away from campus.
Beomgyu was initially only taking the major to be close to his friend, but he soon discovered that he actually enjoyed the subject and found himself putting in more effort in his studies than usual.
────────────────
They were currently sitting somewhere in the middle of the auditorium, listening to their professor explain the next assignment. Beomgyu had his eyes focused on the powerpoint displaying in front of him when he felt an elbow nudge his side.
"Didn't we already get this exact assignment last semester?" Taehyun asked, slowly turning his head to look at Beomgyu.
Beomgyu looked back, humming in agreement. As Taehyun's attention went back to the powerpoint, the other kept his gaze on him.
He found himself drawn to his best friend, in every way possible. Beomgyu wanted to be close to him, talk to him, and just be near him. Everytime he was around Taehyun, his heart raced a little faster and his face lit up.
He had never truly felt this way about anyone before, but he knew it was something special. Whenever they were together, Beomgyu couldn't help but feel like he belonged with Taehyun, like they were meant to be together.
But despite how much he liked him, Beomgyu had no idea how to tell him. He wasn't sure if Taehyun would even feel the same way or if he'd be scared off by Beomgyu's feelings.
So instead of expressing his feelings, Beomgyu kept them hidden and let himself bask in the presence of the one person who made him feel so alive.
Because to Beomgyu, Taehyun was more than perfect. He had the biggest smile, the prettiest eyes, the kindest personality, the perfect features, everything about him was just right.
Taehyun closing his laptop and packing his bag made Beomgyu turn his head away, how long had he been staring?
"Beom? Aren't you gonna pack too?" Taehyun asked, standing up, waiting for his friend to get ready. "Yes, just a second, i'll be right behind you" Beomgyu hastily gathered his items, following his roomie out the auditorium.
────────────────
Beomgyu and Taehyun were walking back to their dorm in comfortable silence. Neither of them felt the need to fill the air with words, content simply to enjoy each other's company. It was a familiar feeling for them both – one that brought a sense of peace and comfort.
As they rounded the corner and came into view of their building, Taehyun stopped. He looked up at the sky and sighed contentedly. "It's so nice to be able to just relax like this after school" he said softly, turning to look at his friend with a smile on his face.
Beomgyu returned the smile. He swore you could hear his heart beating from a mile away because of the way Taehyun looked at him.
It was always like this, all Taehyun had to do was just breathe in Beomgyu's direction and his heart would nearly jump out of his chest.
They entered the dorm room, heading towards their own rooms and putting away their stuff for the day.
"Hey, I'm gonna go make something to eat. You want anything?" Taehyun asked, entering Beomgyu's room.
"No, I'm good for now. I want to finish that assignment, again" he answered. Taehyun chuckled, remembering how Beomgyu struggeled with the same assignment last time.
Taehyun nodded and headed off to the kitchen while Beomgyu put on his headphones and started typing away at his laptop. He soon got into a groove as he focused on his work.
A while later Taehyun had entered Beomgyu's room again, tapping him on his shoulder. Beomgyu turned around and took off his headphones, pausing his music.
"Here you go! I made you some snacks anyway, in case you got hungry." Beomgyu looked up at Taehyun with a smile.
"Thank you, Tyun. I didn't even realize how long I've been working" Taehyun smiled back and set the plate down on the desk before taking a seat next to the other.
Beomgyu's breathing hitched a little as Taehyun sat down, their knees touching softly under his desk. Taehyun's face was so close to his own as he scanned the essay Beomgyu had been working on.
Beomgyu's gaze slowly averted from his screen to his roommate's face, and he couldn't help but feel a calming warmth coming off of him. He felt himself blush as his heart started to race, he looked away quickly, hoping Taehyun hadn't noticed.
Taehyun however, noticed all the little glances and stares from him. He smiled to himself, putting his hand on Beomgyu's leg and gently squeezing it as he continued reading his work.
Taehyun's actions made Beomgyu's breathing stop for a moment. Not wanting to be obvious, he tried to keep his attention off of Taehyun's touch.
"It looks good so far," Taehyun said, finally taking his eyes off the screen. "It's much better than last time even" He chuckled, patting Beomgyu's head as he got up from the chair.
Beomgyu gave him a smile before Taehyun turned around, leaving so his roommate could continue his work.
────────────────
Taehyun entered his own room, quietly closing the door behind him. He connected his phone to a speaker in his room, putting his playlist on shuffle. He had been waiting to open the package that was sitting on his bed all this time to make sure Beomgyu would be busy.
Just the other day, Taehyun had been looking at clothes online when he stumbled upon a pink tennis skirt, curiosity sparkling inside of him. He was hesitant at first but added the item to his cart nonetheless.
And now here he was, sitting on his bed with the package in his hand, eager to try it out.
Taehyun carefully opened it, throwing the packaging somewhere on his bedroom floor as he took out the skirt. He felt his heart beating a little faster as he took a good look at the piece of clothing.
He felt a wave of embarrasment as he got up from his bed to change. Slowly slipping the skirt up over his legs, he turned around to look into the mirror next to his bed.
Taehyun adjusted the skirt, his sweater covering almost all of it. He lifted his top slightly so he could see the mini skirt completely.
His cheeks flushed red when he realised he loved it. He turned around to see every angle, dancing a little to the music filling his room, feeling content with the clothing he had bought.
────────────────
Finally halfway through his essay, Beomgyu found himself struggeling and getting frustrated. His work wasn't ending up how he wanted it too.
He paused his music, getting up to find Taehyun and ask for help. Entering the living room, he was met with the music Taehyun was playing in his room.
Beomgyu knocked on the door, waiting a moment before knocking again. I guess he doesn't hear it. "Taehyun, I'm coming in" Beomgyu said aloud, trying to alert the other boy of his presence.
Beomgyu pushed the door to Taehyun's room open. "Hey, I need your help with the assignment, I don't kno – "
Beomgyu's eyes widen in surprise, cheeks slowly burning red as he froze in his spot. Holy shit
He wasn't expecting to walk into Taehyun like this. Before him stood his roommate, skirt barely covering half of his tighs. Beomgyu somehow felt himself grow more attracted to the other, if that was even possible.
Taehyun startled and quickly turned around, looking up at Beomgyu, their eyes meeting for a brief moment before he quickly averted his gaze. He blushed, embarrassed by his outfit.
"I... I was just trying something out," he stammered, looking away. "It's nothing."
Beomgyu's heart skipped a beat as he took in the sight of Taehyun. He could hardly believe his eyes, and for a moment all he could do was stare. Finally, he found his voice. "It looks really good on you," he said softly.
Taehyun blushed even brighter, avoiding Beomgyu's stare. "Thanks," he mumbled shyly.
Beomgyu smiled and took a few steps closer to him, gently taking Taehyun's hand in his own. "Don't be embarrassed," he said reassuringly. "You look amazing."
Taehyun's breathing hitched, he looked down at their hands touching. Beomgyu rubbed the younger's hand slowly with his thumb.
Taehyun's heart raced in his chest as he felt the warmth of Beomgyu's touch. He couldn't help but feel drawn to the other, feeling a strange sort of pull towards him that he'd never felt before.
His gaze drifted from their hands to Beomgyu's lips, and suddenly, all Taehyun could think about was how soft and inviting they looked. He wanted nothing more than to lean in and kiss them, but something held him back. He was unable to make a move despite the desire coursing through his veins.
Taehyun's ears were bright red, both from the undeniable tension in the room and the compliments Beomgyu gave him.
A spark lit inside of Taehyun, and now he was the one staring at his friend, taking in his beauty. Admiring the way his hair framed his face perfectly and how his eyes looked at him with such love.
Beomgyu let go of Taehyun's hand as he tried to remember why he came to find Taehyun in the first place.
He scratched his neck, his gaze going over everything in the room except for Taehyun. "I forgot what I needed" Beomgyu chuckled nervously.
"You were saying something about the assignment?" Taehyun tilted his head to the side, slowly swaying his hips with the music. "oh yes, the assignment" Beomgyu shifted in his spot, connecting his eyes with Taehyun's.
The music only becoming muffled background noise as both boys stare at eachother. In this moment, Beomgyu could feel his heart practically beating out of his chest.
The way Taehyun's boba eyes were looking at him, reflection of the light in the room sparkling inside of them, made Beomgyu's heart flutter.
Half of Taehyun's thighs visible and the oversized hoodie he was wearing on top just made him look even more perfect.
Beomgyu wanted to confess right then and there, blurt out the words he'd been longing to say for so long, but he couldn't. He was scared of losing a friendship he held so close to his heart.
It felt like his heart would burst with the effort of containing his feelings. He could only hope that he would find a way to express himself without ruining their friendship.
"So, do you need help with it?" Taehyun asked once he noticed that Beomgyu was lost in his thoughts. His words snapping Beomgyu back to reality as he looked at him confused.
"Sorry, what did you say?" he said once he realised Taehyun was talking to him.
"The essay, do you need help?" Taehyun repeated, chuckling softly. "No I... I can finish it myself," Beomgyu stuttered. "I apologise for interrupting" he finished before quickly turning around, ready to leave the room.
Taehyun grabbed his arm hurriedly. "It's okay, Beomie," He said, smiling reassuringly. "Just... don't tell anyone, please," his voice shaking slightly.
Beomgyu nodded, unable to find words for a moment. "Of course not," he finally said, "I would never." Taehyun released his arm and stepped back, looking away from him.
He watched Beomgyu leave the room before turning back to look in the mirror, he sighed deeply, trying to gather his thoughts. "What the fuck was that"
He sat down on his bed, head in his hands. He had no idea what just happened. His best friend had just found him cross-dressing. And Taehyun didn't mind at all.
He knew he cared for Beomgyu, but he couldn't deny the confusion he was feeling. Was this real? And did he really just want to kiss Beomgyu?
Taehyun felt overwhelmed. He had never experienced anything like this before. His heart was pounding and his mind was racing with thoughts, both good and bad.
It was all too much for him to handle. Taehyun laid back on the bed, he closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths, trying to calm himself down.
He thought about Beomgyu, the way he looked at him with those soft eyes, the warmth of his touch. He couldn't deny that he felt something for the him, but it was all so sudden.
Was it just his head playing with him?
No. This was real. He felt something for Beomgyu, something that had always been there but it was buried so deep, Taehyun had almost forgotten about it.
────────────────
Beomgyu entered his own room again, shutting the door behind him and letting himself fall onto his bed. Oh my god. All he could think about was how Taehyun had managed to look so good.
Every single one of the feelings Beomgyu had tried so hard to suppress started resurfacing. It was like a dam bursting open, and all of his emotions were rushing out at once. He wanted to tell Taehyun how he really felt about him.
The moment their hands touched, Beomgyu could swear Taehyun felt it too. His heart raced as he saw the way Taehyun looked at his lips and how his ears turned bright red. Beomgyu knew then that there was a chance — a chance that Taehyun might like him back.
A soft knock was heard on Beomgyu's door. "Beomgyu?," a short silence fell before the boy on the other side continued. "Can i come in?"
Beomgyu sat up quickly before answering. "Yes" his voice sounding panicked.
Beomgyu's heart raced once again as he saw Taehyun standing in the doorway. He couldn't help but notice the way he was looking at him.
He cleared his throat, trying to break the awkward silence that had fallen between them. "Um... hi," Beomgyu said nervously, not sure what else to say.
Taehyun smiled shyly, his eyes never leaving Beomgyu's face. He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him before taking a few steps closer to Beomgyu.
"I know this might be sudden," he began, speaking softly. "But I just need you to know."
Beomgyu felt himself blush as he looked into the other's eyes. He felt something stir inside of him as Taehyun stepped closer, sitting next to him on the bed.
"I was thinking about our... moment just now and," Taehyun stammered, his face growing hotter, not daring to make eye contact. He couldn't believe he was saying these things out loud.
"I'm kind of glad you walked in on me. I know it sounds weird and all but I think I wanted you to see because... because I felt so proud and I wanted you to be proud of me too," Taehyun continued, fidgeting with the edge of the skirt.
Beomgyu took a moment before answering him."And I am proud of you, Taehyun" he replied, placing one hand on Taehyun's cheek and slowly turning his face, making them look at eachother.
"I think I... I like you, Beom" Taehyun blurted out, blushing deeply. He quickly looked away again, embarrassed by what he had just admitted.
Beomgyu's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't believe what he was hearing, but at the same time, it made perfect sense.
Neither of them said anything for a good moment. Taehyun felt his chest tighten as he grew more nervous, scared that, maybe, his words were too sudden.
He quickly got up, wanting to hide away in embarrassment, but before he could place a step Beomgyu's hand took hold of his arm and pulled him back on the bed.
Beomgyu smiled softly and reached out to take Taehyun's hand. Taehyun felt a wave of relief wash over him as Beomgyu's warm touch settled over his hand.
Beomgyu squeezed the other's fingers gently before answering. "Me too, Tyun. I like you too"
Taehyun laughed softly and gently caressed Beomgyu's hand. "I like you too" Beomgyu repeated once again with a smile, brushing a strand of hair away from Taehyun's face.
Beomgyu had known for some time that he had feelings for him, and now here they were, finally being acknowledged and spoken out loud. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly, his eyes never leaving Taehyun's.
And he knew then that this was real — that Taehyun truly did have feelings for him too.
Taehyun felt a warmth radiating from Beomgyu's words and couldn't help but smile brightly. He opened his mouth to reply, but before he could get the words out Beomgyu had already leaned in and pressed his lips against Taehyun's in a soft kiss.
Taehyun felt like electricity was running through him as he returned the kiss eagerly, feeling an indescribable happiness that seemed to make all of his worries melt away.
When they finally pulled apart, Beomgyu smiled at him softly.
"Be mine?" Beomgyu asked. Taehyun gasped softly before nodding his head, smiling brightly at the boy in front of him.
"Yes, absolutely" Taehyun said, feeling overwhelmed by the emotion coursing through him. Beomgyu grinned, taking Taehyun's hands and placing a soft kiss on them.
Beomgyu leaned forward to press his forehead against Taehyun's. The two of them stayed there for a few moments, just enjoying being close to each other, in the warmth of their new relationship.

I've had this taegyu idea floating around since january but I'll readily admit that it is extremely similar to httbt so like on one hand I am absolutely a reader who often thinks "man I wanna read what I just read but new" plus it's in an entirely different fandom but on the other hand like it's literally rockstar beomgyu and probably math teacher taehyun (or maybe grad student, potentially gym owner?).
(lowkey i ended up like fully plotting out the fic/recapping my twt thread so i'm putting the rest under a cut lol.)
like whereas alec was a top 40 sensation solo pop artist, very much channeling biggest name in the industry, beomgyu would be frontman for an indie/niche band (honestly i'm picturing chase atlantic 100% whereas alec was like a tswift) but his band still sells out its tours and is somewhere on the charts, making a very respectable sum.
Beomgyu is feeling ennui, uninspired, very jaded but in a more. . . angsty way than alec? i imagine this fic to be darker/more emotional than httbt with A Big Conflict towards the end where one of them severely fucks up in classic fic fashion.
of course, i've already thought of the opening scene and it makes me realize how totally predictable i am because it's an extremely late night/early morning run-in where taegyu are obviously at very different points in their lives but they have A Conversation and it's the first time beomgyu has felt interested/intrigued by something in forever and taehyun-- actually here's a difference-- he actually has no idea who beomgyu/his band is. beomgyu, ofc, likes that. taehyun just sees a hot guy who's a little fucked up but aren't we all.
looking at my twt thread, i talk a lot about how during that first meeting, beomgyu talks a lot in half-truths, unsure if he can trust taehyun and taehyun is just blunt as always, very no bullshit. they both walk away feeling amped up-- beomgyu feels a little bit like he got an ass kicking, a breath of fresh air and taehyun is intrigued in his own way about this guy who's full of contradictions.
they keep running into each other at the park at these really intimate hours (beomgyu clearing his head/going out whenever there's less of a chance of him being seen and taehyun on his morning runs). eventually one morning, the sun is shining when they both look up and taehyun recommends a lowkey breakfast spot he knows nearby.
despite there clearly being something between them, beomgyu isn't in a place to be in a relationship and taehyun is up front about what he wants/needs and they both respect the other. of course, that doesn't stop them from growing closer until they're like best friends.
constantly texting, both of them start to depend on the other-- on their phone calls, a few minutes of stolen time, on finding the most out of the way restaurants with the best samgyeopsal.
everyone around them knows Something's going on even if taegyu remain infuriatingly tightlipped, both of them wanting to protect this thing between them. the secret relationship aspect is a lot more illicit in this than it was in httbt-- there might not be tabloids to worry about but beomgyu's had a lot of years in the business to grow jaded even if he wishes he could be as open as taehyun. There are some growing pains even if they are both fully invested/committed, even if beomgyu loves being with taehyun and can't get enough.
i'm picturing a classic fic blow-up thanks to beomgyu's rockstar past (?) clashing with taehyun's firm stance on open communication and no bullshit (the blow-up is nothing out of the usual for fic but bc i tend to really love Healthy Communication, i've never written this kinda conflict before but i do think it'll actually fit this au setup and not merely be an excuse for angst lol).
anyway, they totally break up over That Mess and cue beomgyu losing it a little. he gets drunk, writes songs about taehyun, implicitly dedicates those songs to him on stage. he hooks up with someone and feels fucking awful.
he ends up eventually (let's be real they'll probably only be broken up for like a month bc i can't do too much angst lol) doing some soul searching/reflecting on the past months with taehyun and realizing the error of his ways (and even as he was doing it, he was kicking himself bc he didn't even mean the words, he didn't wanna hurt taehyun but his mouth just started without his brain and heart's input rip).
meanwhile taehyun is totally heartbroken (while he seems fine on social media he's kinda falling apart irl) but he was always up front about what he needed from beomgyu if they were gonna do this and he won't bend his own needs and worth just to be with beomgyu.
obviously happy ending!!!! and you know i'll have to include some serious established relationship fluff to make up for all the pain :')
all of which to say..... like i know the premise is very similar to httbt and i feel like there's even more of a spotlight on it since it is obviously my most prolific work (which did also come from a chase atlantic song lmao) but there are differences too???? so like i should just write what i want right?? like especially because i'm worried about being too close to my own work, like it doesn't even matter? and there are some key differences? idk :( i just know i really like the idea.

I have seen the members use the ily sign towards army (like while ending their group lives for example) and I have seen Jk use it very openly with Jmn at least once in a video - it was an interview and Jmn was doing something. The difference with Taekook is that their ily sign (except when they do their "handshakes") seem to be private/hidden/personal.
Well, I always do enjoy someone bringing Jimin into the mix for absolutely no reason. You know what, anon, leave it. I think we're better off with Taegyu.

drown in your lavender
Beomgyu has never felt this tense in his life.
He sinks down into his sheets with a small grunt, his sore muscles protesting at the slightest movement.
“Fuck,” he sighs.
Taehyun had walked into his room that morning at around 3 a.m., squinting at the light from Beomgyu’s lamp, hair tousled from sleep.
“Gyu,” his roommate said, voice deep and raspy, “why the hell are you still awake?”
Beomgyu doesn’t think he has insomnia. After all, it’s not that he can never sleep- it’s that he turns on his computer or phone every night and forgets to turn them off. The lack of sleep combined with piles of work and countless hours of dancing led to him being tense and sore all over, any movements making his body twinge and ache.
His bed is his only relief. Every small motion leaves him in pain, and finally being able to comfortably stay still feels like heaven. He puts his headphones in. Calming music floods his brain, quieting the thoughts left in there, aching to escape. He closes his eyes.
Maybe his music isn’t loud enough, because his brain still manages to conjure up images of Taehyun. God, he’s so pretty.
At the beginning of the year, Beomgyu was a poor college student, scraping by on instant ramen and illegally downloaded textbooks. He needed an apartment, but there was no way in hell he’d be able to afford one himself. He whined about it a lot, but in reality he was one day away from a complete breakdown when his friend Huening Kai texted him, telling him that he found a potential roommate. At first, Beomgyu was skeptical of Taehyun. He didn’t really want to share a home with this passive-aggressive, judging guy who always seemed cold and bitchy. But over time, he began to appreciate what a good roommate- good person- Taehyun was. He always kept the common areas clean, made his friends be quiet whenever they came over, and even cooked for Beomgyu whenever his practices or study sessions ran too late. Beomgyu wouldn’t trade him for anyone. But hand-in-hand with that newfound appreciation came something unexpected: feelings. Romantic feelings.
Taehyun is a pretty boy who tells Beomgyu to go to sleep when he’s up too late and cooks him food, and Beomgyu is a very, very weak man.
Earlier that day, Beomgyu walked into their tiny living room and practically died on the spot because Taehyun was doing push ups shirtless, right there on their floor. “Hi, Gyu!,” he had said, like he wasn’t giving Beomgyu the biggest Gay Panic he’d ever had. “Sorry I’m not wearing a shirt, it’s hot in here.” Taehyun had been absolutely correct. Beomgyu was on fire.
The memory stirs heat into his belly, and Beomgyu can feel his traitorous dick twitch. “No,” he groans out loud. Beomgyu may not have the strongest moral code, but he draws the line at using Taehyun to get off without him even knowing.
He turns onto his stomach, ignoring how his muscles scream. The pressure on his crotch certainly doesn’t help, but he isn’t going to turn again and put his body through that.
Ignoring the heat in his stomach, he shut his eyes again, attempting to sleep. His body begins to burn with an itch, just begging him to scratch it, but he only closes his eyes tighter, shoving the discomfort down.
The sound of the door opening shakes him from the beginning of sleep, and he groans.
“I know you wanna sleep, but you’re really tense, Gyu.” Taehyun’s voice is deep, melodic, hypnotizing. Suddenly, Beomgyu feels like he’s been doused in flames again. He hopes his face isn’t burning red.
“Oh,” he says dumbly, trying hard not to make his voice crack.
“I’m going to give you a massage,” Taehyun declares.
What.
Every single cell in Beomgyu is screaming for him to run. His tired brain buffers for a second. Massages equal skin-to-hand contact. Skin-to-hand contact equals imminent death for Beomgyu. RIP Choi Beomgyu, his tombstone will say. Died from a massage by his hot roommate.
There is absolutely no way that Beomgyu is going to survive a massage with Taehyun’s hands all over him and his semi-hard dick still trapped between his body and the sheets.
“Uh.”
“Is that okay?” Taehyun asks softly. He’s so close now, Beomgyu can feel the heat off of his body and smell faint traces of lavender.
“Fu- um, yeah? Yeah.”
Taehyun chuckles.
The blankets are peeled back, leaving Beomgyu lying there in his shorts and thin t-shirt.
Taehyun lays a hand on his back, making him flinch.
“Can I take your shirt off?”
Something shifted in the tone of Taehyun’s voice. It makes Beomgyu shiver.
“Yeah, if you want.” He raises his upper body slightly so Taehyun can maneuver the shirt off of his body. The cool air raises goosebumps on his skin.
“I’m gonna use this lavender massage oil, okay? It’s supposed to be calming.”
Beomgyu nods.
The first touch of Taehyun’s oil-slick hands to his bare skin makes him shiver.
“Is it cold? Sorry, baby.”
They both freeze.
“What?”
Taehyun’s hand strokes across his skin once, hesitantly.
“Can I call you that? It doesn’t have to mean anything if you don’t want it to.”
God, how Beomgyu wants it to mean something.
“If you want?.”
“Okay, baby.”
Beomgyu’s dick twitches again, filling out in his boxers.
Taehyun’s hands touch his skin again, trailing up to his shoulders and digging into the knotted muscle.
“Your muscles are tight, Gyu,” Taehyun murmurs, and Beomgyu shivers again.
“Are you cold?”
“Ah- no, sorry. Just a bit sensitive.”
“Oh, really?” Taehyun responds, and oh- there’s no way Beomgyu imagined the darkness in his voice that time, the other meaning lying just below the surface.
Taehyun stops talking then, and Beomgyu lets himself relax into the feeling.
Ignoring his arousal, Taehyun is actually talented at massaging. Beomgyu can feel the knots and kinks in his muscles come undone under his skillful hands. Taehyun digs his thumb particularly hard into a certain spot, and Beomgyu doesn’t have time to bite back the noise that slips out. It’s so lewd, practically moaning into the air from a simple massage, and Beomgyu really hopes his boner isn’t obvious.
Taehyun just laughs a little.
“You’re really enjoying this, huh?”
That little shit. He knows, doesn’t he?
“Shut up,” Beomgyu groans.
Taehyun snorts, dutifully going back to working at Beomgyu’s tense shoulder.
After a couple seconds, Taehyun makes a pained noise, and the motions stop.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, this angle is just really weird. Can I…”
Beomgyu makes an inquisitive noise.
“Oh, this is weird… Can I sit on your thighs?”
The question brings images of Taehyun rutting down onto Beomgyu’s thighs hurtling through his mind, and it takes all of his willpower to keep his mouth shut and his hips in place. A second too late, a wave of embarrassment floods through him as he realizes how innocent Taehyun’s question actually was.
“Sure!” He winces at the obvious crack in his voice.
Taehyun doesn’t question it.
The sudden weight on Beomgyu’s thighs is grounding, even though it’s his pretty roommate.
He takes a deep breath, preparing himself for warm hands on his skin again.
This time, Taehyun’s fingers feel even better across his back; the angle change doing wonders for the quality of the massage.
“Mm, that feels good.”
“Really?”
“Ye-” The word breaks off into a sort of whine at the end, and Beomgyu is past caring at this point. There’s no fucking way Taehyun hasn’t realized how desperate he is right now, hasn’t realized that the noises he’s making aren’t just fueled by his fingers on his back, but also by the burning arousal spreading over his whole body like a fever.
Taehyun’s hands move down to his lower back, and this time the noise he lets out is practically pornographic.
“Enjoying ourselves, aren’t we?”
“Shut up,” Beomgyu says, but it comes out strained, and embarrassingly desperate.
He feels Taehyun shiver a little, and he feels a twisted kind of satisfaction. Maybe he’s not the only desperate one.
“I need to oil my hands up again,” Taehyun murmurs.
Beomgyu hums in response, not trusting his voice.
Taehyun leans forward to get the massage oil from where he left it, and something hard brushes against Beomgyu’s ass.
Beomgyu lets out a squeak.
“Hyun?”
“What?” There’s genuine concern in the other boy’s voice, but there's the same darkness still lying underneath it, and Beomgyu realizes what it is. Arousal.
“Taehyunnie,” he says, slowly, carefully, “are you hard?”
Taehyun tenses.
“Gyu- I wasn’t, like sexualizing you- okay, I was, but it was unintentional? I feel so bad, I’m so  sorry, I swear I couldn’t control it-” He’s getting up, trying to get off of Beomgyu, almost tripping in his haste, which give Beomgyu enough room to turn around and grab his wrist.
“Gyu, you’re getting oil all over your sheets-”
“Fuck my sheets,” Beomgyu growls. “They’re gonna have to be washed soon enough anyways.”
Realization dawns on Taehyun’s face. Beomgyu watches his eyes trip down his body, finally landing on the blatantly obvious outline of his dick through his thin shorts.
“Oh,” he says. Then he looks back into Beomgyu’s eyes, a little smirk on his face.
“Oh, baby, did you get that hard because of my hands on you?”
Beomgyu scoffs.
“No. I was turned on before you came in.”
Taehyun’s smirk grows.
“And what were you thinking about?”
Fuck. He’s got Beomgyu there. Well, if he’s already been found out, then why not sell it?
“You. You’re so fucking hot, you know that? Doing exercises shirtless on the floor, like you wanted me to stare.” He’s just bluffing, he knows Taehyun exercises for himself; yet, the statement made Taehyun’s ears turn red.
“I wasn’t exercising for you, baby.”
Beomgyu ignores the way his dick twitches at the name, choosing to scoot forward and tilt Taehyun’s chin up until he’s looking him in the eye.
“Then why are you blushing so much, baby?” he whispers, throwing the same name back at Taehyun.
“Maybe I wanted you to stare, just a little bit.”
Beomgyu rests his hands on Taehyun’s thighs, looking into those big brown eyes, drowning in the caramel.
“Do you want this?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m going to be honest with you right from the start- I don’t just want to have sex with you.”
“Me neither, Gyu.”
“Really?”
“Will you be my significant other, or whatever?”
Beomgyu smiles so big his cheeks hurt.
“Of course. Um, can I… can I kiss you?”
Taehyun fits their lips together before Beomgyu can even wonder if he was overstepping. His mouth is warm against Beomgyu, and the kiss is soft, chaste, fond. Beomgyu melts.
Taehyun gently coaxes his mouth open, turning his head to slot their lips together. Beomgyu lets out a tiny whimper, and the noise seems to flick a switch in Taehyun, because he starts devouring Beomgyu’s mouth like he’ll never taste it again, drawing sound after sound out of Beomgyu.
He feels like he’s on fire and doused in water, simultaneously burning with arousal and basking in the relief of finally feeling Taehyun’s mouth against his.
He loves it.
His hands land on Taehyun’s shoulders, clutching on for dear life. He’s drowning in the heat rush, grasping for a handhold.
Taehyun’s hands, still slicked up from the oil, land on his bare waist. Beomgyu bites back a moan.
Taehyun’s lips leave his, but before he can complain, they land on the skin of Beomgyu’s neck, nipping and sucking and licking until Beomgyu is a complete mess.
“You-” he stops to catch his breath, “-you asshole, I’m gonna have to wear turtlenecks or something! I only own one!”
Taehyun smirks at him, his lips red and shiny. Beomgyu wants them on him again.
“Shut up, you loved it. Besides…” He leans closer until he’s speaking right into his ear.
“...you can always borrow mine.”
Beomgyu flushes.
“Oh,” he says, tongue-tied yet again.
“Someone’s talkative today, hmm?” Taehyun teases, flicking his thumb over Beomgyu’s nipple just to hear him moan.
“Sh-shut up.”
The smile slips off of Taehyun’s face.
“I know that we kinda already went over this but… tell me you want this.”
Beomgyu hides his face in his hands.
“Yeah. Fuck, I want you so bad.”
“Stayc ‘So Bad’?”
Beomgyu snorts, putting his hands back on Taehyun’s waist.
“Yeah. Please?”
Taehyun leans forward, catching his lips in a soft kiss. Impatiently, Beomgyu turns his head, opening his mouth up and licking across the seam of Taehyun’s lips.
A chuckle reverberates in the back of Taehyun’s throat, but he opens his mouth too, sinking into the kiss yet again.
Beomgyu bites on Taehyun’s lip. He lets out a groan, almost a moan.
The sound goes straight to Beomgyu’s cock. He bites again, just to hear it. Taehyun practically moans again. Beomgyu loses himself in the messy tangle of tongues and lips and teeth, letting Taehyun cloud his senses, lavender blooming behind his eyes.
All of a sudden, a hand brushes against his bulge. The sudden sensation makes his hips buck up, and Taehyun giggles, muffled through their lips.
He squeezes Beomgyu’s dick again, pulling another moan out of him.
“Sensitive,” Taehyun whispers.
“Be quiet.”
Taehyun’s hands pull his shorts and boxers down in one movement, and he pauses.
“What,” Beomgyu says. Embarrassment curdles in his stomach; he shies away from Taehyun’s gaze.
“No, you’re- fuck, you’re gorgeous.”
Beomgyu’s eyes widen.
“Oh- um. Can I see you, too?”
The question comes out a little too fast, the words stumbling over each other.
“Anything you want, baby.”
The sentence makes his mind whirl, but he doesn’t have time to think about that when Taehyun is peeling off his shirt and shorts and oh fuck, now he’s naked.
“Wow,” Beomgyu says.
“Wow,” he says again.
“You’re- wow.”
Taehyun snorts.
“Very eloquent, Gyu.”
Beomgyu doesn’t even bother to answer, too busy staring at the miles of tanned skin he’s allowed to see- allowed to touch, he reminds himself.
His hand jolts forward before he remembers himself, hovering just above Taehyun’s length.
“Can- Can I-”
Taehyun nods, almost frantically.
Beomgyu spits in his hand, then wraps it around Taehyun’s dick.
The noise he lets out is nothing short of sinful.
Encouraged, Beomgyu starts up a steady rhythm, ignoring his own arousal in favor of hearing Taehyun come apart.
Taehyun lets out the prettiest sounds, making Beomgyu’s hips rut forward unconsciously.
After a little while, his wrist starts to hurt, and he slows down.
“Is your wrist hurting?” Taehyun asks, sounding absolutely wrecked. Beomgyu did that!
“Yeah, kinda. Sorry, baby.”
Taehyun shivers.
“No, it’s okay. I got it.”
Beomgyu watches him shuffle forward, tilting his head in confusion.
“What- mm,” he groans.
Taehyun grabs both of their cocks in one hand, stroking them together. Beomgyu’s spit and their precum ease the way, making it wet and sloppy. Beomgyu’s whole body is on fire. He can’t hold back the moans now; they spill from his mouth like water from a fountain.
The fire in his belly curls tighter and hotter, and he can barely croak out a warning before he’s coming, painting Taehyun and himself with white.
At the sight, Taehyun cums too, adding to the mess. Beomgyu moans again, quietly. Taehyun holds his jaw gently, diving in for another kiss. When he pulls away, there’s so much adoration in his eyes that Beomgyu could drown in the caramel sweetness forever.
He giggles, almost delirious from the pleasure.
“I’m tired.”
“Good thing I brought wipes in case I used too much massage oil.”
“You’re the best person on Earth,” Beomgyu beams.
Taehyun wipes him up gently, then himself. Once he’s done, he joins Beomgyu in the bed.
“That was wild, but… no regrets. I really, really like you, I guess.”
Beomgyu looks at Taehyun’s wide, honest eyes.
“I never thought that would happen. I never thought you’d like me back.”
Taehyun smiles.
“Surprise?”
“A really fucking nice one.”
Beomgyu zones out for just a second, staring at Taehyun.
“Hey, you know what’s funny?” he says suddenly.
“What?” Taehyun looks mildly alarmed.
“The color white represents virginity.”
“Cool?” Taehyun still looks like he’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
“You know what else is white?”
Taehyun raises an eyebrow.
“Cum.” Beomgyu giggles. He can’t help it. The look on Taehyun’s face only makes him laugh more, until he’s laughing so hard he can’t breathe.
“Jesus, is this what you’re like after you come? What the hell? I might have to reconsider dating y-”
Beomgyu pinches Taehyun’s nipple, sniggering at the yelp he gets.
“Hey! Sorry, I’m sorry!”
Beomgyu stops attacking his nipples, just staring up at him instead.
“You’re my partner now.”
“Yup.”
Beomgyu smiles. The knowledge makes him giddy. He’s next to his partner, soaking up his warmth. The room smells like sex and lavender and love.
Beomgyu has never felt this relaxed in his life.

Taehyun heard a knock on his apartment door and was taken aback. Did I order something? Nothing is supposed to be delivered today, as far as I remember… He then heard another knock.
Taehyun went to the door and opened, eyes widening slightly upon seeing the absolutely pretty boy outside holding a small tin. The boy smiled brightly and Taehyun is smitten. Still very confused, but smitten too. His hair is dark and nearly shoulder length, and Taehyun really doesn’t know how to describe him besides pretty. Just so pretty.
“Uh, hello- I’m Choi Beomgyu.” the boy said with a slight bow. Taehyun, hoping he hasn’t made it awkward by staring, bowed back. “Hello, I’m Kang Taehyun…”
“I, uh, I live across the hall a few doors down.” he said, pointing to the door that has already been completely decorated for Christmas. Taehyun had already noticed it earlier that week but he didn’t know who lived there. “I made some candy and wanted to give some to my neighbors so…”
“Oh! That’s really kind of you. Thank you.” Taehyun took the tin from him.
“Alright well… I’ll see you later then, Taehyun-ssi.” “Yeah, of course. I’ll see you around. Thank you again. It was nice meeting you.” Taehyun bowed again before watching Beomgyu walk back to his door.
Taehyun immediately went to his kitchen and opened the tin, wondering what kind of candy Beomgyu likes to make for Christmas. Inside the small tin was various kinds of candies like fudge and oreo balls - everything Taehyun loved basically.
He was then left wondering how in the world this ridiculously handsome boy has been living two? three? doors down from him and he hasn’t even noticed him. Did he just move in? Maybe he just hasn’t left his apartment much because of COVID… either way, Taehyun really wanted to see him more often.
---
And that’s how Taehyun ended up at the home store, buying Christmas decorations. It was clear that Beomgyu was a very Christmassy person. What better way to get his attention than putting up some decorations at his own apartment.
He decided to get some lights to go around the door and a matching lighted wreath. That’s probably enough, right? It’s at least enough to get Beomgyu’s attention while he’s walking past Taehyun’s apartment door to get to the elevator. That’s all he needed anyway.
So he got back home, hung up his wreath - that looked great, by the way - before encountering his first problem while hanging up the lights around his door frame. He can’t properly reach above his door frame and of course he doesn’t have a step ladder.
Taehyun looked down at the hammer in his hands and briefly thought that he was going through a lot of trouble to impress a boy he’s barely said five sentences to before trying again because honestly he was whipped and there was no reason to deny it or overthink. Maybe if he just stood on his tip-toes he’d be able to get them hung properly…
He tried, he really tried, but he was just barely too short to hang up the notches for the lights. And if fate weren’t cruel enough, he heard a vaguely familiar voice behind him as he was trying his best to reach above the door frame again. “Taehyun-ssi?”
Taehyun jumped slightly and looked behind him only to find the boy he wanted to impress or surprise or something standing behind him, looking at him with a slight smile.
“Do you need some help? I was able to reach above my door pretty easily to fix my own lights, so I’m sure I can get yours too…”
Taehyun couldn’t sense that he was trying to make fun of him. He sighed and nodded. “Please… I didn’t think to get a step ladder when I bought these…” Taehyun was so, so embarrassed. If he didn’t have a complex about his height before, he sure as hell did now.
Before he could stew on it, Beomgyu took the hammer from his hand and put the notches in the wall above the door before handing Taehyun the hammer again and asking for the lights. Taehyun handed them to him and watched as he set them properly before standing back and making sure they were even. When they were done he plugged them in and smiled and Taehyun. “They look nice,” Beomgyu said, and Taehyun could only think not as nice as you.
Taehyun couldn’t remember the last time he had a crush like this. He’s barely even spoken to Beomgyu but he can tell he’s going to be head over heels in no time.
“Did you already put a tree up?” Beomgyu asks, and Taehyun shook his head. “Ah - no. I honestly just bought these decorations today and didn’t even think about getting a tree…” Taehyun hoped it wasn’t obvious why he got the decorations. Surely it wasn’t. He wasn’t that obvious about his crush, was he?
“Well that’s okay! Do you want to see the tree I put up?” Beomgyu asked him and Taehyun nodded a bit too quickly. “Yeah, yeah sure. I’d love to.”
“Okay um… I was going to go to the convenience store when I saw you,” Beomgyu’s voice trailed off, “But it’s okay! I can go later.”
Taehyun raised his hands. “No it’s okay. I’ll be here. Just let me know when you’re back.”
Beomgyu smiled again and yep, Taehyun was a goner. “Okay, I’ll be back soon.”
---
It was within the next twenty minutes that Taehyun heard a knock on his door and he tried not to seem overly eager.
He opened up his door again and Beomgyu was there with a few bags. "Do you want me to help you carry one or two of those?" Taehyun asked, reaching out for them. Beomgyu nodded and let him have two of the shopping bags before walking toward his apartment.
Taehyun locked his apartment door and followed, curious as to what Beomgyu’s apartment looks like. Immediately upon entering he could tell that Beomgyu loved decorating the inside of his apartment for Christmas as much as he liked to decorate the outside.
The inside of his apartment smelled nice like Christmas candles. Sure enough, there was a tree in the living room in front of his window. Taehyun didn’t know how else to describe the decor except to say that it was soft. The color scheme was bright and everything seemed to match well. Taehyun’s apartment wasn’t nearly this well put together. Beomgyu was just so interesting and cute. How has this boy been living right down the hall and Taehyun hasn’t even noticed?
Taehyun walked over to the tree and looked at Beomgyu. “As pretty as this is, I think my cat would probably destroy one of these.”
“You have a cat?!” Beomgyu asked, and Taehyun nodded. “His name is Hobak. I’ve had him for a few years now.”
Beomgyu ran over to him and smiled brightly. “Okay, 1. Please let me see your cat. Wait…only if you’re okay with letting me in your apartment, of course. You can say no.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck.
Taehyun smiled and nodded. “Yeah, of course you can.”
“Great! Okay! 2. I would love to help you decorate your apartment more if you want. I really like decorating so it would be fun for me too.”
"Sure, we can decorate more. Don't get upset if my cat wrecks your hard work though." Taehyun replied with a shrug.
Beomgyu laughed it off. “Do you want to go this weekend and get some more decorations together? Maybe I’ll look for some things for myself as well.” “Sure.”
---
Taehyun once again was feeling nervous. He hadn’t seen Beomgyu since he visited his apartment a few days prior. They agreed to meet early in the morning and Taehyun was already ready to go but Beomgyu said he would be there to pick Taehyun up.
Taehyun fed Hobak his morning food and played with him briefly before hearing the familiar knock on his door. He opened the door and saw Beomgyu standing with a small bag and a drink holder with two coffees. Taehyun was touched, really, except for the fact that there were two americanos. Taehyun cringed a bit thinking of drinking something that bitter but he didn’t want to be rude to Beomgyu who went out of his way to get him breakfast.
“Good morning! Come in! You wanted to see my cat, right?” Taehyun watched as Beomgyu’s eyes lit up. “Yes! I’d love to see him! I got us some breakfast too.”
“Thank you! That’s nice of you.” He welcomed Beomgyu in.
Taehyun was happy when Hobak warmed up to Beomgyu fairly fast, and Beomgyu seemed to be enamored with him as well. Taehyun happily ate the pastry that Beomgyu brought for him before eyeing the americano again. He would have to drink some of it but he was dreading it. He hated bitter things, but it’s not like Beomgyu would know that.
Taehyun took a sip of the americano but it was even more bitter than he remembered due to the sweet pastry he ate before. He cringed a bit and took another sip before setting it back down, hoping Beomgyu wouldn’t notice it.
Taehyun watched as Beomgyu happily drank his americano and paid attention to Hobak who was now playing with his toys in the next room. Beomgyu was smiling and watching as Hobak ran around.
After a bit Beomgyu looked back at Taehyun and smiled again. Taehyun took that as a cue to take a sip of his americano again whether he liked it or not.
“Do you not like americano?” Beomgyu asked, and Taehyun immediately felt bad. “Was it obvious?” he replied with a curt laugh.
“Yeah. You’ve barely drank any of it at all. What do you normally drink, Taehyun-ssi?” Taehyun smiled back at him. “I usually drink iced caramel macchiatos. I don’t really like bitter things.”
Beomgyu nodded. “Noted. I’ll bring you something different next time.”
Taehyun felt his face heat up at the promise of a next time. He was already excited for it.
---
Taehyun and Beomgyu bought several kinds of decorations - mainly for Taehyun’s apartment, but Beomgyu couldn’t resist buying a few things as well. When they brought everything back to Taehyun’s apartment and began to decorate, Taehyun was surprised that Hobak didn’t try to wreck his new tree. He was also glad to have Beomgyu with him again not only because he seemed to really brighten Taehyun’s mood but because once again he needed assistance from a taller person when it came time to put the star on the top of the tree.
Taehyun was still surprised by just how great Beomgyu is at decorating. He mainly allowed Beomgyu to have free reign when decorating the tree. He made sure to compliment his work afterward and promised to make him dinner sometime in return. Beomgyu smiled and said thank you, but also asked why it was “sometime” and not “now”. Taehyun had to embarrassingly explain that he didn’t buy enough food to make dinner for two people since it’s just him there normally except for his sister occasionally stopping by.
Beomgyu seemed to accept his reasoning and asked if Taehyun would be interested in watching a movie with him and ordering takeout instead. Taehyun asked if he had any movies in mind and Beomgyu, of course, wanted to watch a Christmas movie. When asked about his favorite Christmas movies, Taehyun explained that he wasn’t really sure. Beomgyu proudly stated that he was a fan of “those cheese Hallmark Christmas movies” but said that he would compromise if Taehyun didn’t want to watch one of them. The compromise ended up being the Nightmare Before Christmas with some fried chicken and pizza.
Taehyun thought to himself as they were watching the movie that everything about his friendship with Beomgyu has been so easy and he felt so comfortable with him. They’ve only really spent a few days together but everything is just so simple and they get along so well. He couldn’t remember the last time he ever felt like this about another person, especially not this fast.
Taehyun learned that Beomgyu was older than him by one year and Taehyun referred to him as Beomgyu-hyung from there on. He learned that Beomgyu was like him in that he was the younger sibling but he had a brother instead of a sister. He learned that his family lived a few hours away in Daegu and that he initially came here for college but decided to stay.
Beomgyu also seemed to be very inquisitive about Taehyun as well, like asking why Hobak was given that name when he wasn’t orange like a pumpkin. He asked about Taehyun’s taste in music and his tastes in food. Taehyun loved how interested Beomgyu was in him.
After the movie and food they said their goodbyes and Beomgyu went back to his home under the promise of getting together again very soon. They exchanged numbers so they could actually text instead of randomly meeting each other like before.
The two texted each other regularly, multiple times throughout the day, but Taehyun hasn’t actually seen Beomgyu in person and he’s missing him already. One night a few days after exchanging numbers, Beomgyu asks for a picture of Hobak. Taehyun, feeling a bit bold, takes a selfie of both himself and Hobak and sends it.
He notices that his message was read immediately and hopes it’s okay but he doesn’t even have time to worry about it before Beomgyu sends him back a message saying the picture he sent was even better than what he had hoped for. Taehyun didn’t ask him to elaborate and Beogmyu didn’t offer anything further.
A few days after that Taehyun leaves his apartment to get groceries and, when he comes back, notices that there is another tin for him - the same type that Beomgyu brought to him before - but it’s left hanging on his door knob.
Taehyun snapped a quick photo of the tin and sent Beomgyu a text asking “Is this from you, hyung?” Beomgyu replied back quickly that it was and to let him know if Taehyun liked them.
When Taehyun put up his groceries he opened the tin and saw some small shortbread cookies that were obviously homemade. He tried one of them and was surprised at how good they were. Of course the fudge and candy were good but these cookies were incredible. He immediately felt like he had to do something for Beomgyu in return.
While Taehyun was shopping with his sister he found a store that sold homemade hot chocolate bombs and bought a set of different flavors to provide for Beomgyu in return for the cookies. He hung the small bag of hot chocolate bombs on Beomgyu’s door in a similar fashion and sent a small photo of them to him, hoping for an immediate response.
What he didn’t expect was for Beomgyu to come to his door and thank him personally instead of via text. Taehyun’s older sister was still visiting with him when Beomgyu arrived and she answered the door for him. Taehyun heard his sister call out to him and he came to check to see who was at the door only to see Beomgyu there. He wasn’t sure but Beomgyu seemed to have a different expression than he normally had.
“Hi Beomgyu-hyung. Do you want to come in?” He asked, but Beomgyu looked a bit apprehensive. “Um, no it’s okay. You already have company. I can just text you-”
“Oh she’s about to leave, it’s fine. This is my older sister actually. We were shopping together today. Noona, this is Beomgyu. He lives a few doors down.” Taehyun was sure that Beomgyu’s mood perked up almost right away and he couldn’t help but wonder if Beomgyu was jealous. He wouldn’t say anything and he honestly didn’t know anything about Beomgyu’s relationship status or sexual orientation or anything else but he definitely wasn’t imagining how quickly Beomgyu changed his mind about leaving once he found out it was only Taehyun’s sister.
His older sister did leave afterward but only asking Beomgyu questions and shooting a look to Taehyun as if she already knew Taehyun was practically in love with him. Taehyun gave her a look back and tried to hurry her out of the apartment before she blatantly asked Beomgyu if the two of them were dating or something along those lines. Taehyun already knew he was going to have to deal with her incessant questions and probably even some from his parents because of course was she was going to tell them that Taehyun might be dating someone.
But luckily after she left, Taehyun was able to talk with Beomgyu peacefully. Beomgyu started by asking if Taehyun wanted to share the hot chocolate bombs since Taehyun got him a few of them and Taehyun said that would be fine.
As Taehyun was in the kitchen warming milk for the chocolate bombs, he remembered again that he wanted to tell Beomgyu about the cookies. Upon telling Beomgyu just how much he loved those cookies, he noticed that Beomgyu laughed awkwardly instead of the proud look he normally had when Taehyun had complimented him before.
“To be completely honest, I didn’t make those. My best friend Soobin made them. In my defense, I was there when Soobin made them but I had no part in actually making them myself. My best friend loves baking and he makes those cookies every year so I asked him to make some extras for you since I know how much you love sweets…”
Cute, cute, cute is all Taehyun could think about. “Well I would love to meet him sometime and thank him properly for the cookies.” Taehyun said with a short laugh. Beomgyu nodded in agreement.
“We usually have a small get together closer to Christmas if you’d like to come to that. Soobin will definitely be there so you can meet him then.” "Oh, sure hyung. That sounds great.” Taehyun replied back to him.
Beomgyu looked at Taehyun and Taehyun could tell the older boy wanted to ask something. “Is everything okay, hyung?” Beomgyu seemed to snap out of it right away and he smiled. “Oh, yeah of course. Everything is fine… have you ever made a gingerbread house? I’d like to make one but I think it would be more fun if we made one together.”
Taehyun let out a loud laugh. “You really like Christmas huh, hyung?” He thought he saw Beomgyu’s cheeks blush a bit. “Honestly yeah. I love the holidays. My family always made a big deal about it when I was growing up and it reminds me of them. I normally go home for at least a day or two around Christmas to spend with them. I love decorating and going to see lights. I hope it doesn’t seem like I’m going overboard…”
“No, no of course not! I’ve just never seen anyone who likes Christmas so much. It’s cute, really- I mean, it’s nice. I like Christmas too. It’s nice to see someone who likes it so much.” Taehyun gave him a warm smile and hoped he didn’t notice the slip-up about him being cute.
“So…do you want to make the gingerbread house?” Beomgyu asked again. “Oh my god I completely forgot. Yeah, we can make it together! It will be fun.” “Alright, I’ll buy a kit and we can make it at my apartment.”
---
Beomgyu texts him the next morning with a photo of a Hershey gingerbread house kit and asking when he wants to come over to make it with him. Taehyun says he can come over later that night after he gets done working.
Taehyun said that he should get done around 6:00 p.m. so he would let Beomgyu know when he was on his way home. Taehyun messaged him when he got in his car before driving back to their apartment complex and Beomgyu said he was ready as well.
Taehyun loved the feeling of Beomgyu waiting on him to get home, even if it wasn’t in the same apartment. Everything about Beomgyu felt warm and made Taehyun feel good. To say he had a crush would definitely be an understatement at this point, and it seemed like Beomgyu at least enjoyed his company too.
Beomgyu’s apartment smelled as good as the time he visited before, but the smell was different. It still smelled like Christmas candles but this time it was more like sugar cookies. Beomgyu invited him to sit at his small dining table and brought over the kit, not even trying to hide his excitement.
“I thought about buying two kits but decided on just one. I figured it would be more fun to work together on it, if that's okay with you.” Taehyun nodded, “Of course hyung.”
Taehyun realized quickly that Beomgyu is very artistically talented. He should have known, given how good he is at decorating. But with his help, the icing and designs on the gingerbread house ended up nearly perfect. Taehyun thought to himself that he would have been slightly embarrassed to make his own and compare to Beomgyu’s because he’s sure his hyung’s would have ended up much nicer.
After finishing it Beomgyu said he was going to leave it on the table because he had no intention of actually eating it. He said he mainly just wanted to make one for the fun of it and Taehyun agreed.
As Taehyun was realizing that he would have go home soon, he realized that he wanted to stay longer, or spend more time with Beomgyu. “I had a lot of fun, hyung. Thank you for letting me make it with you. I really enjoyed it. It’s fun spending time with you.”
Beomgyu laughed lightly and nodded. “I had fun too. I’m glad you wanted to make it with me. We can spend more time together. I enjoy spending time with you too, Taehyun-ah.”
Taehyun didn’t want to run out of things to do together. He suddenly remembered something he planned on doing and wondered how Beomgyu would feel. “Hyung, do you want to see Spiderman with me? It will be released soon.”
Beomgyu laughed loudly. “Oh? Are you asking me out on a movie date, Taehyunie?” Taehyun’s eyes widened. “Ah… it could be friends hanging out, or a movie date. Whatever you prefer, hyung.” He was nervous but he left the ball in Beomgyu’s court. Taehyun didn’t think he was imagining Beomgyu blushing at some of his words before, but he didn’t want to scare him off either.
Taehyun watched as Beomgyu considered his next words. “Honestly movie dates are pretty cliche but…I’ll make an exception for you if you take me out to dinner first, Taehyun-ah.” Beomgyu smiled at him and Taehyun returned it with a smile of his own. He felt lighter, knowing that Beomgyu clearly felt the same chemistry between them that he did.
“Alright Beomgyu-hyung. A dinner and a movie date. How about this weekend?” Beomgyu placed a hand on Taehyun’s shoulder lightly and smiled again. “Sure.”

Taehyun called his best friend Kai as soon as he got back to his apartment and told him about his upcoming date. He had told Kai about Beomgyu already and Kai had encouraged him to ask Beomgyu on a date. “He’s totally into you,” Kai had said, but Taehyun was always too nervous to ask anyone out on a date, especially someone as pretty and interesting and nice as Beomgyu.
So of course he had to listen to Kai telling him, “I told you so. It was so obvious,” but he could put up with it since he was the one with a date. Kai came over to his apartment and helped him pick out something nice to wear. He even decided to put on a bit of light makeup. He wanted Beomgyu to know he was serious about dating him.
When Beomgyu showed up at his apartment, Taehyun wasn’t even surprised to see him looking even better than usual. He had cut his hair a bit and wore a pretty black choker that looked great on him.
“You look great, Taehyun-ah.” Beomgyu said to him, and Taehyun hoped the tinted moisturizer he had on hid the blush he could feel forming on his cheeks.
“You…you do too, hyung. Are you ready to go?”
Beomgyu nodded. “So where are you taking me for dinner?”
Taehyun laughed a bit. “Italian restaurant. It’s so nice I even had to make us a reservation.”
Beomgyu laughed loudly, “Oh? Not Korean food?”
Taehyun shook his head before replying, “I can make you Korean food any time you want. I wanted to take you somewhere nice and I’ve been to this place before.”
---
The food was as good as he remembered, and Taehyun was really enjoying Beomgyu’s company. It’s not the first time they went somewhere together but it felt different. Beomgyu was smiling at him and he kept thinking about how much he wanted to reach out and brush his hand against his hyung’s whenever Beomgyu would leave it on the table.
Beomgyu told him more about the get together he was planning with his best friend Soobin closer to Christmas, once again asking if Taehyun wanted to come. Beomgyu said Soobin would probably bring his boyfriend Yeonjun as well and Taehyun asked if he could bring his friend Kai.
Beomgyu asked if Taehyun had any other Christmas traditions with his family and Taehyun said no, that his family did celebrate but not to the extent that Beomgyu’s family does.
“Honestly, I normally don’t even put up decorations but…” He trailed off. “But what?” Beomgyu asked, and Taehyun sighed.
“What? Why are you being weird all the sudden?” Beomgyu laughed.
“Honestly?” Taehyun asked, Beomgyu nodded. “I only put them up to get your attention. You were clearly so into Christmas with the decorations and the candy and… I went out and bought decorations. But then I couldn’t even put them up because I was too short-” Beomgyu laughed and tried covering his mouth as if that would hide it.
“Oh my god, I’m sorry. I’m not laughing about you calling yourself short, honestly. I’m just… you really bought a bunch of Christmas decorations to try and impress me? Seriously?”
Taehyun sighed again and nodded. “Yes. That’s honestly why I didn’t buy a tree or any inside decorations. I didn’t really expect you to come into my apartment.”
“You didn’t? But you wanted my attention… Wouldn’t you expect us to get closer if we start talking more?” Beomgyu asked. “I honestly didn’t think that far ahead. I just wanted you to like me,” Taehyun responded, and Beomgyu smiled softly back at him.
“Well, I do. Honestly since the first time I brought you the candy. I wasn’t expecting you to be so cute and I was so awkward that day because I was shocked that such a cute guy was living on the same floor as me.”
Taehyun couldn’t help but giggle at the compliment. “I actually had a similar thought about you. Like how were you living so close to me without me even realizing it.”
Taehyun noticed Beomgyu’s hand on the table again and reached out for it before he thought better of it. He watched as Beomgyu’s eyes widened briefly before looking at their hands and smiling brightly.
“Since we’re confessing embarrassing things, I have one too. You’ll probably feel much better after hearing this one.”
Taehyun was interested now. “Oh?”
Beomgyu rolled his eyes. “Yeah so… I was jealous of your sister-” “What?”
Beomgyu sighed. “Yes, Taehyun. I got jealous of your sister the first time I met her.”
“Why would you be jealous of my sister?” Taehyun asked.
“Because…I came over that day and she opened the door? And…” Taehyun couldn’t help the cringe that showed on his face. “Ew, you thought I was dating my sister, didn’t you?” Beomgyu groaned and nodded.
“I remember thinking you were acting a bit weird when I asked if you wanted to come in that day! There was like a brief moment where I thought you were jealous but I didn’t want to assume.” Taehyun laughed a bit too loudly for the nice restaurant they were in.
“I was just- I was just upset because I liked you a lot and I didn’t know who it was.” Taehyun laughed. “Well honestly she texted me later and asked about you too. Of course she wanted to know who the cute boy showing up at my door was. I haven’t actually went on any dates or anything in a little while so she had a lot of questions.”
Beomgyu smiled again. “You know, I think I would like going on more dates with you in the future if you would like that, Taehyun. I’ve had a lot of fun, even if I am thoroughly embarrassed.”
Taehyun squeezed his hand slightly. “I’d like that too, hyung. And that’s completely your fault. You offered up that information all on your own.”
“I wanted to make you feel better about your embarrassing confession!” Beomgyu’s eyebrows were scrunched together and Taehyun couldn’t help but laugh.
“Don’t worry hyung. I’ll forget all about it by the time the movie is over.” Taehyun said to him. “You’re cute, Taehyun-ah.”
---
The two did go on a few more dates when they were both free. Taehyun enjoyed spending so much time with Beomgyu. He was cute as a friend but even cuter when he was openly flirting with Taehyun. They hadn’t officially referred to each as “boyfriend” but Taehyun felt they were headed that way, or maybe they were already there and just hadn’t said it out loud.
He ended up making Beomgyu Korean food for dinner, just as Beomgyu had requested before. They ate at Taehyun’s apartment and started watching a drama together, intent on watching the whole thing together whenever they get free time and can hang out.
Mainly they stayed home, in one of their apartments, but they did go out a few times. He found out that Beomgyu doesn't like tomatoes the first time they went to the Italian restaurant. He also doesn’t seem to like seafood, so the restaurants they could choose from were limited.
The time got closer and closer for their Christmas get-together, and Taehyun thought a lot about what he wanted to buy Beomgyu for Christmas.
"We don't have to get anything for each other if you don't want to, Taehyun-ah." Beomgyu had said, but Taehyun disagreed.
"We're friends hyung. I know you like celebrating Christmas and I do too. Let's just agree to not spend a lot on a gift, okay?"
Beomgyu had accepted this and, after checking with their friends, they agreed that Christmas Eve worked for everyone.
Two days before their get together, Beomgyu asked for Taehyun's help making what he called a saran wrap ball for all of them to play with at the event. After googling what the saran wrap ball game even was, he agreed.
The next morning Beomgyu invited him over and already had an iced caramel macchiato waiting on him and a pastry to eat.
He then showed Taehyun the small candies and presents he intended to put in the game ball, and they got to work.
After finishing the saran wrap ball and watching a few Christmas episodes of Friends together, Taehyun said bye to Beomgyu until the next evening.
He then messaged his friend Kai asking if he wanted to do some shopping. He had decided what he wanted to get Beomgyu and he wanted to get something new to wear.
He found a nice sweater while shopping with Kai, a red sweater with a black and white argyle design. Kai said it looked good on him and that "he hasn't met Beomgyu yet but he's sure that he'll love it," so Taehyun got it and stopped by a crafting store to get his gifts for Beomgyu.
---
The next morning he had a text from Beomgyu when he woke up saying Happy Christmas Eve and that he would see him later.
Taehyun was antsy all day and he couldn't wait until he was to go over to Beomgyu's apartment.
He waited until a few hours before to get ready, fixing his hair and putting on a bit of makeup to accent the colors of the sweater he purchased the day prior. Kai was right - the sweater did look very nice on him.
He waited for Kai to arrive at his apartment before going over to Beomgyu's, and went together as soon as he arrived. Beomgyu’s other friends were already there when Taehyun and Kai arrived and Beomgyu introduced them right away. Taehyun introduced Kai to everyone as well.
Yeonjun and Soobin were both friendly and asked Taehyun a lot of questions about how he and Beomgyu met and asked about his and Kai’s friendship. “We’ve actually heard a lot about you from Beomie here,” Yeonjun had said, eliciting a pointed look from Beomgyu.
“Hyung,” he called in a tone that Taehyun hadn’t heard from Beomgyu before, and both Soobin and Yeonjun laughed. “What Junie means is that Beomgyu has just said you all get along well and became friends quickly.” Soobin elaborated, and Taehyun agreed. “Yeah, I’ve really enjoyed spending time with Beomgyu-hyung. It’s nice that we live so close so we can spend a lot of time together easily…” Taehyun watched as both Yeonjun and Soobin looked at each other and smiled.
“So,” Beomgyu started, “I’m going to order some pizza and we can play games now if everyone is okay with that.”
---
After a few hours of eating, playing the saran wrap game that Beomgyu and Taehyun put together, and playing on Beomgyu’s Switch, Yeonjun and Soobin let everyone know that it was about time for them to go home to their own apartment, and Kai said that it was getting pretty late for him too since he needed to be at his family’s home early tomorrow on Christmas morning.
Beomgyu had told Taehyun to wait until the others left before they opened their presents for each other and Taehyun was happy about it since he would probably be embarrassed if Beomgyu opened his gifts in front of the others.
So after the others left and Beomgyu asked if he wanted to open their gifts, Taehyun felt himself getting nervous again but he agreed on the condition that Beomgyu open his gift last. Beomgyu was reluctant at first but agreed after a minute, and gave Taehyun the gift he had gotten for him.
Beomgyu went over to his tree and brought the boxes and bag from underneath, giving the two wrapped boxes to Taehyun and keeping the bag for himself.
Beomgyu watched quietly as Taehyun unwrapped the first present, turning out to be a cookbook for Korean recipes. Taehyun smiled up at him. “This is so thoughtful, hyung! I love it.” “I’m glad! I know you enjoy cooking and you seem to like cooking Korean food a lot so I wanted to give you something useful.”
“Are you sure you’re not trying to get me to make more food for you, hyung?” Beomgyu glared at him, “That’s not true! I wouldn’t be opposed if you did, though.”
Taehyun looked at him briefly and smiled before opening up the second gift. Inside the packaging was a small box, and in the box was a Nightmare Before Christmas snowglobe that was ornately decorated. Taehyun could already think of a place on his bedside table that he would put it.
“Do you like it, Taehyun-ah?” “I love it, hyung. Really.” Taehyun replied, and Beomgyu smiled oh so brightly at him. “I’m glad. I thought it would be memorable. Since we met in the winter and it’s the first movie we watched together…”
“I really love it, Beomgyu-hyung,” Taehyun repeated, “You should open my presents now. Although I will tell you, I don’t think I spent as much on them as you did…”
“I don’t care how much you spent on them, it’s fine. I’m sure I’ll love them.” Beomgyu said softly.
“I can’t wrap presents well like you can either,” Taehyun lamented, and Beomgyu scoffed at him.
“Stop worrying so much, Taehyunie,” the older boy scolded him.
Easy for you to say, hyung, Taehyun thought to himself.
He watched as Beomgyu pulled the tissue paper from the bag and looked down at the small presents inside, gauging his hyung’s reaction as he took them out of the bag one by one.
He brought the first present out of the bag, a small booklet of “tickets” for Beomgyu to use. On the front of the booklet read “Love Coupons”. Beomgyu flipped through the booklet, reading some of Taehyun’s handwritten “date tickets”.
Taehyun could see Beogyu chewing on his bottom lip lightly and he desperately hoped that he liked Taehyun’s idea. Well, not his idea necessarily - he saw it somewhere and just thought it was really sweet.
Instead of saying anything, Beomgyu took the second present out of the bag - a small Christmas ornament with a rainbow colored heart and two boys holding a heart in their hands and a ribbon below them. Above their heads had both of their names, Beomgyu above one and Taehyun above the other. ‘2021’ was written on the heart they were holding together, and ‘Our First Christmas' was written on the ribbon.
Taehyun felt his breath hitch as Beomgyu stared at the Christmas ornament and the English writing, noting the exact moment Beomgyu looked up at him finally. Suddenly he was feeling very shy under his hyung’s gaze and he just wished Beomgyu would say anything.
“This is…” Beomgyu’s voice trailed off.
“I know we haven’t really talked about it, but…I want you to be my boyfriend, hyung. We’ve gone on dates but I want it to be official, if that’s what you want too.”
Luckily Taehyun didn’t have to wait too long because Beomgyu was smiling brighter than Taehyun had ever seen him right away. “Oh my god Taehyun. This is literally the cutest thing I have ever seen. Of course I’ll be your boyfriend - that’s literally all I’ve wanted since I met you.”
Taehyun couldn’t help the grin on his face as Beomgyu laid the presents down gently and pulled Taehyun into a tight hug. “You’re so cute I can’t take it, Taehyun-ah. How did I get so lucky?”
“I’m the one who’s lucky, hyung. I’m so happy that you knocked on my apartment door that day,” Taehyun almost felt himself get emotional but he pushed it away, just allowing himself to be happy and content.
“Our anniversary is on Christmas Eve too. Just to add to your love of Christmas, hyung.”
Beomgyu pulled away from the hug and ruffled Taehyun’s hair lightly, careful not to ruin the work he had obviously put into it. “I do love Christmas quite a bit. Sadly I don’t think I was as prepared for this as I should have been…” he trailed off.
Taehyun looked at him, confused, “What do you mean, hyung?”
“There’s one tradition I’ve always loved but I didn’t prepare it,” Beomgyu started, and Taehyun looked at him in confusion still.
“I’ve always thought it would be cute to kiss someone under the mistletoe but…I didn’t get any mistletoe-” Taehyun stopped him by bringing his lips to Beomgyu’s, barely pressing against them.
He felt Beomgyu inhale through nose sharply before pressing back. They held the kiss for just a moment before pulling back and smiling at one another. “You can get it for us next year, hyungie.”
