I'm never going to get over this DLC- I love gen 9

The main game was already so good, but the DLC just sealed it in that these are, in fact, my favorite games and my favorite generation.

Pokemon Scarlet Character Thoughts: Overall Gameplay and Rivals

After playing Pokemon Scarlet for the last few weeks, and after completing all story lines, I wanted to share my thoughts on the characters in this enjoyable game via GIFs, photos, and my own brainrot thoughts.

Overall Gameplay

The glitches everyone has experienced were annoying, but some were quite funny, my Koradion would disappear while I was riding it sometimes and if I was too close to slopes or mountains, they would look like the earth was shifting in a major landslide.

I did however love the open world concept, I learned quickly about the areas with the different levels of wild Pokemon and trainers, after I had my ass handed to me multiple times. The variety of the landscape around Paldea was enjoyable, from the rolling fields, mountains, icy tundra, deserts, the beach and so much more, made it enjoyable and not at all static. I especially enjoyed hunting around for Pokeballs, TMs, and sparkly goods on the ground.

This game differed by including the school with actual lessons and a range of characters as well. Most of the things taught (Pokemon wise) I knew as I’ve been playing it for years, but it was still enjoyable. I did not like that we’re all stuck in school uniforms for the whole game, yes there are 4 different types, but it’s still a school uniform. I did appreciate that we could change our shoes, socks/stockings, bags, hats, and glasses, as it was fun to dress up, I just wish there was more variety as far as the uniforms went if we were going to be stuck in them for the whole of the game.

The picnic feature was similar to the camping feature in Sword and Shield, which was fun as you can bathe, talk to, and play with your Pokemon. However, the best part was making sammichs!!

Nemona

Her battle obsession turned me off to begin with, but as the story progressed and I was able to learn more about her character, she easily became one of my favorites. I feel a connection with her after we learned that she doesn’t see herself as ‘gifted’ like the other students seem to believe, she was very passionate about battling and gave it her all through hard work. I was like this when I was younger, as I had a very high reading level for my age (when I was 8-10) and everyone thought I was ‘gifted’ but I just did it for fun. Nemona is 10/10 someone I would be friends with.

Arven

Oh, my sweet baby boy, how I hated you when we first met, you were rude to me and acted like a total ass wipe.

HOW WRONG I WAS!!!

This baby boy is hands down my favorite character in this game! He is a complexly written character with (deserved) mommy/daddy issues, dealing with their abandonment in favor of their work and having to grow up learning to take care of himself because they weren’t. Playing through the different story lines was fun, but his was the most enjoyable, especially when I learned why he was the way he was.

I UGLY cried when I learned the reasoning behind his mission to hunt down the Herba Mystica, after the first titan I saw him talking to someone after I left, and I thought he was being sus, but after the second titan and we met his Mabostiff, I, honest to God and chocolate, ugly cried so hard my mom yelled at me, and come to find out my sister saw it first in her game and didn’t tell me because she knew how I was going to react! After the defeat of the fifth and final titan, I was ready to throw hands with Nintendo and Gamefreak with the cut scene after the last sandwich when it made it look like Mabostiff wasn’t going to make it. This was in part 2 of my ugly crying for at least 15 minutes started! Arven is a loveable dork and friend, I wouldn’t call him so much a rival compared to Namona, even though he is a strong trainer, I see him more as the best friend a girl could ever ask for.

Penny

Not going to lie, I absolutely adored her character design, her Eevee backpack is adorable, her shorts with the sheer skirt, baggy hoodie, and overall aesthetic, she’s adorable! I enjoyed seeing her throughout the game and adored seeing her and Koradion interact, but I was a bit disappointed when she didn’t seem to play a big part of the story line, or so I thought!

Spoilers: Boy, when I found out that she was Cassiopeia and the original founder of Team Star, now working to disband it, I was stunned! Playing the Team Star story was enjoyable, it wasn’t one dimensional like other villains in past games, it showed us the reasoning behind Team Star’s founding and what their overall goal was, and I was pissed that they were made out to be the bad guys after they stood up to their bullies. She was just trying to help her friends, and their interactions with each other is adorable. I also find it hysterical that she was able to hack the Pokemon League and made it seem like it was easy. I love her team of Veevee’s, which is one of my favorite challenges to give to myself, getting a team of only Eevee evolutions, and she is decently strong, but her team is pretty easy to defeat if you know your type matchups.
