***Minor Spoiler Review***

What’s up everyone! Welcome to Beyond The Panel. Coming at you today with talk about the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series finale! Which is also a two-hour finale too! I was not ready for this, because after that second episode concludes? That’s it! How many years of following this team through thick and think. From the original S.H.I.E.L.D. base, to the space, and even to the past. It has all been a memorable experience leading up to this final mission to save everything.

Wow, talk about an action-packed finale, am I right? Actually, let’s not even stop there. This finale was the full package, and I loved every minute of it. When Nathaniel Malick and the Chronicoms got away with Simmons and Deke, that alone was enough to fill you with fear about how this was going to end. It seemed like our agents had pretty much lost the battle. And then we also had the looming truth that no matter how this ended, this would be their very last mission as a team. So it kept me on edge from start to finish anxious to see just how they were going to manage turning this around.

The answer to that did not disappoint me one bit either. Everything here came down to who had a better understanding of the future, and who was willing to take more chances. Rather than being a slave to numbers. This was one of those situations where it wasn’t enough to just know what comes next, you still needed to be able to act upon that knowledge. That was where the fun came in, because there was so much these agents did which was just so unorthodox. Yet at the same time to be expected from them when given enough time and resources to get creative. Now what I also found so thrilling about their course of action was also the fact that everything about this last stretch of the mission was “One problem at a time”. Of course this is nothing new for them, but at the same time it’s not what comes to mind when wonder how the heroes will save the world.

This brings us to the reveal of what Fitz and Simmons had planned this whole time. I have to say, they did not let us down one bit once the answers came pouring in. Obviously there will be some people who are disappointed that it took this long to get back to Fitz, but that is honestly a personal problem. Not a fault of the show. At the end of the day, everyone had their part to play, and if it means one person has to remove themselves from the board to keep everyone else in the game? Then so be it. Especially when the plan was explained the way it was from Fitz’s perspective. And I should also say, even if yo feared Fitz had died, it wouldn’t have made too much sense in the longrun that he actually did.

That said, let’s talk about the full reveal of what FitzSimmons were up to during the time that they spoke of living their lives. This part right here got me choked up a bit. They deserved the time that they had together, and if this wasn’t a scene in the series finale? I wouldn’t have minded getting a whole episode fleshing out how they stole time for themselves to just be FitzSimmons without the weight of the world on their shoulders. Aside from this, we all knew that certain things had to unfold between these two in order to keep a specific chain of events possible.

Beyond this, I was mind-blown by the actuality in how deep their plans went along with Enoch for ensuring that they had a fighting chance against the Chronicoms. The people they put in one place, the instruments they readily made available at the right time. It was meticulous and worthy of their genius.

As the villains, I would say that Nathaniel and Sibyl fit the role well. Sibyl was every bit the villain who would do just about anything to reach her goals. She had the power, she had the numbers, and she had the willingness to make use of both when it counted most. Her only fault was the fact that she was a machine and prone to focusing too much on what the numbers dictate. Well, that and aligning herself with a Malick of all people. We kind this was going to be a problem from the start. There’s no amount of anarchy or ambitions of discord which can mask the kind of person he was nurtured to be. With that said, he was still a great villain in his own right. Excellent dialogue as someone who knows how to talk to get what he wants. Then surprised you with an impressive action scene as he inevitably had his match with Daisy.

If there’s one scene we have to talk about, then it is the one which confirmed what we already knew about how this was going to end. It does suck to know that this was going to be their last mission together, but the devil is always in the details. I was moved by what this actually meant, because it made sense from a different perspective. If we know this isn’t going to be the end, then you also know that there has to be something more for these characters than simply being a team going from one thing into the next. Overall, it was good to know that almost everyone had a future to look forward to.

If there was one problem, I would say it was leaving the fate of one certain character unknown at the end. I get how some fans felt about him, but I wasn’t one of those viewers. I wanted to know what the future had in store for him, even if all the time nonsense prevented said person from sticking around as long as they did.

By the end of this Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series finale, I can say that I was heartbroken, because I wanted more. These two hours were a beautiful reminder of what we were going to be missing. I agree with many out there about their opinion of the direction Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took. They made a brilliant move to break away from the MCU connections. Not everything needs to connect, and these characters deserved the room to exist on their own. Through these recent seasons they forged their own paths that was impossible to deny them of by the end of the finale. I couldn’t have seen pictured them anywhere other than where they ended when that final mission concluded.
