i have a head cannon that as spider was growing up he didn't spend as much time with either the scientists or the sully's as we've been led to believe, but rather he was out doing some mysterious third thing half of the time.

like i see him only going to the sully's for maybe a couple hours before neytiri kind of ushers her children away from his company, and instead of heading back to the labs he just kind of wanders off into the forest on his own. that boy is neglected as shit so it wouldn't surprise me that no one would really follow up on his location much, even as a small child, and he could come running back to the lab, exopack basically flat, and not a single eye would be batted in his direction. i mean it wouldn't take long for him to realise he could just spend hours out in the wilderness on his own without being interrupted, so why wouldn't he?
