@imissthembutitwasntadisaster posed the question, “what is your poem?” Rather than answering with one or two like a normal person, here’s a quote quilt featuring my twenty favorite poems.
“You will hear thunder,” Anna Akhmatova
“Musica Humana,” Ilya Kaminsky
“Inland,” Edna St. Vincent Millay
“High Flight,” John Gillespie Magee Jr.
“The Old Astronomer to His Pupil,” Sarah Williams
“The Cremation of Sam McGee,” Robert Service
“Cathedral Builders,” John Ormond
“A Brief for the Defense,” Jack Gilbert
“Joy,” Carl Sandburg
“Taking Down the Tree,” Jane Kenyon
“Planetarium,” Adrienne Rich
Holy Sonnets: XIV, John Donne
“Love Among the Ruins,” Robert Browning
“As the Ruin Falls,” C.S. Lewis
“City of Man,” Charles Williams
“Mythopoeia,” J.R.R. Tolkien
“The Pearl,” George Herbert
“Curiosity,” Alastair Reid
“A Wedding,” Boris Pasternak
“The Last Hero,” G.K. Chesterton ( @laurelin-of-valinor ‘s fault.)

Hello! I would love to apply to the zine as a writer. I'm a huge fan of lotura and roleplay it quite a lot, but I didn't write a full piece for those two that I'm willing to share with others. I do have other works with either Lotor or Allura with someone else. I also don't have any poetry pieces. I'm not fully clear on if the writer must have that. Should I still try or will I be rejected?
Hello Anon! While we say it's preferred to have at least one Lotura example regardless of medium, it won't be an automatic disqualification if you don't. What we're looking for in submissions are creations that are faithful to the 'essence' of the zine; something that will show the moderators how you intend to capture the idea of a 'Royal Wedding' - either the wedding itself, the before, the after, etc. If what you have to show off your skills as a writer features non-Lotura ships, that's fine. Ideally, the ships should include Lotor and Allura, even if they're with other characters. If you need to submit multiple pieces to do so, that is perfectly fine. (We can't get a very good feel with how you write the characters if neither of them are in the writing samples.) If you're accepted, the mods would be happy to assist with any workshopping of your Lotura piece for the zine, if you'd like assistance.
As for the poems, we just wanted to clarify - no one is required to submit poetry if they don't so choose. We were approached by a fan who mostly writes poetry and was curious if we would entertain poets in addition to authors, and the answer is absolutely yes. (Same for comic artists, cosplayers, etc.) The poetry guidelines are listed just to give people who craft that sort of work some similar guidelines to fic writers to try and keep everything equitable between mediums. You're under no obligation to submit a poem if prose is your preference; it's simply an additional option for this zine.
Please don't hesitate to hit us with another question if you have any others, or if we've missed something in all this. Hope it helps!
