Dream didn't expect to wake up in a cottage in the woods. He didn't expect to wake up wearing clothes he didn't own. He didn't expect to wake up at all.
He suffocated to death.
He remembered the tears in his eyes and the ashy taste in his mouth. The suffocating feeling of breathing the smoke.
He died.
Dream doesn't know if this is heaven or hell. If this is even the afterlife and not some coma induces hallucinations. But he throws the covers off.
He made his bed and looked in the mirror. The person in front of him is similar yet so different to his own body. It doesn't have the bite mark and scratches his cat left on his arms. It doesn't have the scar on his leg when he fell off the tree in their backyard after his sister dared him to climb it. It doesn't have his freckles.
It doesn't have any scars at all, a blank canvas. Dream doesn't know whose body he stole but they were not human. Does that mean he is not human anymore? What does it even mean to be human in this world or is he just panicking and jumping to conclusions.
He didn't want this to be like the time he thought birds grow from bird seeds. When his parents contradict him he put a pile of birds in their yard to prove he was right.
The birds did appear but looking back younger him was dumb.
He explored the house. It was when he realized that the former owner of the house was messy. They didn't clean at all. It looks inhabitable. Random objects are placed in places they don't belong in. It was his house now after all, he seems to not only stole their body he also stole all their worldly possessions. He may as well do something.
It was a two story house. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms one on each floor, a living room, a kitchen, a small library and two strange rooms.  The strange room is on the upper floor,  it has weird knobs, he can't open them.
The house doesn't run on electricity. The old lamps don't have wires connecting them to each other, making it hard to find the source of energy.  Which could cause trouble, In the future when the power runs out. Because he doesn't know how to use it or refill it.
The kitchen, well, he doesn't even know where to start. The stove is engraved in the counter, why would they do that, and it uses wood to fuel itself. There is no hole to let the smoke out except the window. The cabinets, they don't have a fridge, have nothing in them. It was spotless. What do they even eat!
In conclusion, the kitchen is only used for its look. Aesthetic is hundred percent but practicality is zero.
Maybe using his time judging the former owner about his taste in furniture and appliances is not the best idea. Dream is not even done looking at the interior of the home and he needs to fix a lot of things to make the house homey and comfortable, if he wants to live here.
