RM, Wale - Change
I guess we might be on the same boat. I guess we might all think that the world is no longer a better place. I guess the world really needs to change so it stops being so rotten. From the toxic social media, racism, to political issues.

The meaning of the song “Change”, performed and composed by two rappers, RM and Wales, is explained exactly what is said on the title. Everything. Everything has to be changed. The world’s future depends on our younger generation, whether or not they will contribute their best to this place we are living in.
“Oh, tell me that dark could never win the light Oh, tell me that wrong could never win the right Baby, tell me that we gon' someday stop the fight And tell me that every, everything gon' be alright”
The song starts with RM trying to tell himself that there is still hope in the world, that the “evil” will never win against justice. In considering, there are still wars happening in the world, people who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth still look down on others, people who are full of themselves and will do anything to satisfy their desire. The repetition of “tell me” portrays how desperate the artist, as other people who are on the same boat, are desperately trying to convince them that everything will be fine, that there will be light on the other side of the tunnel.
“Oh tell me who's stupid, baby, is it me or them? Just tell me who's insane, baby, is it me or them? In this crazy world after patience, could we get the pearl? But this world, which teaches me, preaches me how to curl”
The next stanza is referring to the obsession of curiosity and how the world has shaped us. We are so attracted to other people’s business that many among us only want to know what consequence will occur to them, then just sit there and let it happen. The procrastination in solving the major problems is the actual matter that we are dealing with. One might say, “Oh, it’s not my problem so I will just let it be”, or “it doesn’t affect me so I’m OK with it”. It is the world we are living give us the power of curiosity, yet cramping into our heads their conventional ideas. They tell us that there is no such thing as love between the same genders and they call it a sickness that needs to be cured. Politicians run away from the issue of global warming and climate change and they say it is absolutely normal. The world teaches us to hide our true-self inside and back away from responsibilities. They say that we are the abnormal one if we don’t behave like them and try to make us become one of them until we lose our minds.
“Oh, fuck the school All we got is mad teachers and some visible classes Divided spaces, and forever-lastin' stresses”
The vibe of the song changes from a hopeless request to a raged affirmation. It is no accident that there have been many suicidal cases occurred at schools. Students are put under pressure from their parents and the education system is just worse. Many schools in Vietnam teach students how to solve a math problem with complicated numbers but rarely show them how to fix their problems when they run into a dead-end in their life. This part can also be considered as he is talking about the government. The world was once a family, everyone was the same regardless of color skin. Ever since the savages claimed leadership, they segregated people by colors, by race, by disabilities, by genders, and this has affected the future negatively.
Tumblr media
Educated high school students (aka so-called Trump’s supporters) disrespect Native Americans is a representation of how the toxic world has  affected our generations.

“Everybody’s mad Kill people with fingers on Twitter More than a gun, more than a knife The tip of your tongue just glitter”
People say that verbally abuse hurts. But words that are typed on the keyboard to satisfy anger are even harmful because those words remain on the Internet permanently. Social media is a double-edged sword. Many try to run away from it, many even die because of social media’s defects. “Kill people with fingers on Twitter” was inspired from the line “Trigger fingers turn to Twitter fingers,” wrote by Drake, a Canadian rapper. This means that the finger used to pull the gun’s trigger is now hurting people on the keyboard instead. Using social media as a tool to harm someone is even more dangerous than using knives and guns.
“If hope is a taste, what's yours? What you eat all day? (What you eat all day?)”
Even though there are negativities lie around the world, there is also hope that can be spread for a better place. In this pre-chorus, the artist refers hope as food and asks if we would make ourselves full with all the hope we have. The song just turns from a dark side of the world to an uplifting and bright hope for all of us.
“Baby girl say, "The world really hate us, huh?"
Imagine if one has a little daughter, their precious, who hasn’t learned much about the world but soon realizes that the majority of people stand against her race just because of the color difference. This is how the world has become. Cold-hearted and cruel.
“When it's time to vote, the people turn to mannequins Challenge that”
Mannequin Challenge is a dare whereas many people will have to stand still without moving the challenge ends. The reason why Wale brought this up is that he wants to criticize the fact that many US citizens withdraw themselves and passively involve in voting - an action which affects the future of a country. Trump building the wall on the borderline is one of the consequence from the voting.
“I believe that real change lies in the mirror (yeah)”
Wale took his inspiration from Michael Jackson’s song “Man In The Mirror”:
“I’m starting with the man in the mirror I’m asking him to change his ways”
This indicates that in order to change all the negatives in the world, one must change themselves by reflecting their attitude and actions, so as to help the world sounds like a place worth living in.
“The world is gonna change”
