Oh my god. I actually have a nemesis. It's the scholar who wrote one of the best articles on my thesis topic where they perform a lot of truly spectacular close readings yet somehow end up reaching the exact opposite conclusion that I do, to the point where one of their quotes summarizes half of my thesis but in the exact opposite way of what they meant by it

#i do actually dedicate. uh. several paragraphs to breaking down their argument all the while going “they are RIGHT to observe x”#“they make a strong case for y”#i have the utmost respect for their scholarship and our opinions couldn't be more different #i think i legit in the intro say “disagreeing with their article has necessitated a lot of work on my end” or something lol #i would actually love nothing more than to have a couple glasses of wine with them and get into the discussion bc they know their shit #sighs dreamily #my nemesis.....#academia #studyblr #gradblr #im like 90% certain that article is a condensed version of their thesis incidentally #god. what an amazing scholar
