schoolgirl complex: a high school senior falls for their new club member who is known for being unreliable. (on the same note a very similar japanese movie is blue)

aaand i do have more on my review page <3 but i think these ones stood out the most to me. bc then there's the whole genre of youtube wlw like shakeshoulder, cheezefilm, 75°C, legend of yun qian / legend of yunze, am i the only one with butterflies, lily fever, girlfriend project etc like if you start going down this path you'll find a lot lol though they are usually just ads with a wlw plot but fun to watch anyways?

THE most beautiful woman alive, always looked good even in some of the less than flattering and age-inappropriate outfits they chose for her in later seasons. like. more than anyone else Iris will make me stop mid dashboard scroll to be like ohhhh because there'll be a gifset where she looks so beautiful.

also while ppl behind the scenes did NOT treat candice patton well, i actually feel the show didn't do iris too dirty. like. she's a powerful business owner with a media empire, she's won a pulitzer, she is adored and revered by her husband (as she should be) and her friends and family, and is a respected figure in the city at large, and i would like to give kudos to the show for being the first piece of media i have ever seen to tackle a character's complex feelings about pregnancy for a pregnancy that was planned and wanted. like iris chose to have a baby but she still becomes overwhelmed and freaked out by the ways it changes her body and how little control she has over the process and those feelings are respected and not treated as wrong or silly and as someone who is very squicked out by pregnancy and childbirth and all that, i REALLY appreciated that they did that.

they could have stood to do a better job of developing her personal relationships outside of barry/team flash imo, and im sad about how she wasn't as present in some of the later seasons, but generally i was happy with how things went for her and she was always a joy on my screen every week. no matter how bad the plot sucked i could rely on iris's parts being worth watching

I have so many feelings about her but i don't tend to want to put her through the wringer as much as my other blorbos, I just want to treat her tenderly 🥺 that being said, in my Flash!Iris fic, she goes THROUGH it, my girl has suffered and will suffer again. i'll feel bad about it though

have you also seen how ppl seem to say that ian is a “boring” or “flat” character - or that mickey is the most interesting thing about him? or worse, that being gay and bipolar are his only traits (which tbh homophobic and ableist). i’m not saying ian is always perfectly written or whatever but he’s a genuinely complex and deep character and has been through so much and people write him off because he’s quieter and gentler. i think he’s so under appreciated :( luv ur sets and ur ian posts :)

in boulder city her mom worked as a carer as there’s a lot of retirees there. mimi really resented the slow pace of life, longed for some fucking energy n life. she was a cheerleader in school but outside of school there wsn’t much to do except practise stunts and go on bike rides.  occasionally they’d get dressed up and catch a bus to henderson, the next biggest city for them to get tht sweet night life

i think somewhere along the line the audience's opinions on sansa and danielle has shifted, so sansa's no longer the 'unpopular' character that gets unfairly hated. ive noticed a lot more people that love to love sansa now, and love to hate danielle - especially via tumblr, twitter, etc social media. sansa is arguably the fan favorite and pretty much any game of thrones gifset will have comments trashing dany. it sucks that pitting 2 females together actually gets a lot of ppl to join in now.

Okay, fair point: the main players on the show are no longer J/D/T. I haven’t checked Twitter with any regularity in like five years so I don’t know what goes on in the fandom there. But it truly is a shame that D&D’s misogyny is such an overpowering influence on the way they write both Danielle and Sansa. Danielle actually does make smart political decisions in the books, and I believe things would play out in a much more compelling and diplomatic fashion if they actually met. I also believe the way they have both been treated by the writers is incredibly unfair, especially starting in season 5 with that nightmarish Winterfell plot and the way they dumbed down Danielle in Meereen. But I guess I should be more clear: I defend the IDEA, CONSTRUCT, and HAPPINESS of Sansa–so, what she was originally meant to be more than what she has become on the show, and a good ending for her–more than I do either version of Danielle, or than I do show!Sansa as a full-fledged character. I haven’t been able to analyze any of the GOT characters as actual complex people with realistic motives since season 5; they’re just pawns D&D messily move around into convenient places, so it is impossible to defend any of their decisions. (Like, who could seriously defend Sansa not telling Jon about the Vale lords in season 6, or Danielle burning all the Lannister food in the early onset of winter, or Jon rushing into BotB with so few men and then somehow winning? Clearly D&D don’t know how to write, and they shove their fanfic caricatures into situations they think would be cool.)

Even though Sansa is inarguably one of the most discussed characters now, I still can’t separate any of her post-season 5 popularity from the horrific way they mangled her. So, just because the character that appears on our screens now is finally getting narrative precedence doesn’t change the fact that there is still deep misogyny surrounding that precedence. Earnest book!Sansa moments have become exceedingly rare since about season 4 when she left the Vale. Her treatment and adaptation as a literary character, and the way she is received in our culture, really speaks to the way we view women with feminine qualities. People didn’t start actually liking her on a mass scale–in fact, they reviled her–until after what she went through with Ramsay. The majority of casual show fans say that they like her because she’s now “her own woman” or a “stronger” character. Not only is it incredibly misogynistic that we as a culture think a woman like Sansa can only be “strong” after she is raped, but the handling of that was unrealistic and damaging, and this “strong female character” sentiment 150 billion% misses Martin’s point in writing her character. The point of her is to subvert expectation in that she, as a teenage girl with shattered dreams and no family, is the least likely character you’d expect to survive a hostage situation–at least, not without becoming as bitter and corrupt as the Lannisters. But she does, and it is this strength that truly makes her a “strong” female character. In the show they have downplayed the value of this kind of resilience, of the incredible mental agency in choosing to stay kind and optimistic through horrific circumstances. This is simply not the case for Danielle, whose strengths are her desire for justice and her dragons. Especially since season 3, D&D have been playing up her dragons (we have barely seen any direwolves because of them, and she uses them often as WMD), rewarding her white saviorism with the worship and deaths of POC, and erasing the racism and xenophobia that comes out through her perspective in the books. Meanwhile Sansa is still held accountable for stuff she did in season 1, as evidenced by her complimenting T/yrion last episode and when Arya attacked her for writing the letter to Cat and Robb in season 7. So I’m not arguing that Sansa is an unpopular character in the show fandom, but more that the narrative is actively against her. Just because she is in a position of power doesn’t mean that the writers respect her or what she was meant to stand for. All evidence points to the contrary, and honestly I feel like the only reason she is getting more play now is because of the way their dumbass little Ramsay plot backfired on them in the audience reception.
