Fic Writer Questionnaire
I got tagged by @yuusaris! Now I get to talk aaaaaalllll about myself :D
1) How many fics do you have on Ao3?
72, but I hope to get a 73rd one out sometime soon.
2) What’s your total Ao3 word count?
337,362. I didn't think it was that big, and yet, here we are
3) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
(Like yuusaris, I'll be censoring the pairing names to avoid tag spam)
1. It Goes Something Like Demeter is my top with 237 kudos. Thank you, Snufm*n pairing and Gods AU joy <3
2. To Conspire Against the King is my second, but doesn't quite get beyond the 200 kudos barrier with 190 kudos. Vaderw*n/Obik*n pairing with some sweet sweet screwing Palps over.
3. Someone Has to Save Him, and It Looks Like That Someone Is Me comes in third, and spins a canon episode into a Snufm*nmaiden joy that takes home 140 kudos.
4. Hyde Provides Comfort is fourth and I believe this is actually the first fic I posted. Hurt comfort with drinking and 131 kudos, because I've been a hurt-comfort fan long before I was brave enough to post my fics.
5. Jekyll Couldn't Sleep is number five, at 128 kudos. It is exactly what it says on the tin.
4) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I will ALWAYS respond to comments, even if it's as simple as thank you. It means the world to me that someone would take the time to comment at all, so I want to make sure I acknowledge someone's engagement with my work.
5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Probably either Memory (t*ndershipping, break-up fic) since it technically ends unresolved, or Hollow Wandering (AbsoluteContr*lshipping, grief/mourning/memory fic) since it also ends unresolved and with a very, very sad Giovanni.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
All of them. Okay joke's aside, I hardly leave my angst unresolved, so, this is difficult. Probably either Coming Home (Citr*nshipping, introspective fluff-fest) since TKB is actually happy the entire fic, which I WILL eventually put out more for, or The Warmth of the Spirit (Namel*ssshipping, ghost AU with a connection to the Sun/Moon game canon) since Red and Blue live their best lives at the end.
7) Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I do privately, but they're way too personal for me to ever post. I think the most wild one was a superwholock-lotr-original fiction crossover where I put way too much effort into making all five canons actually align instead of just being kind to myself and using the canon-typical DW weirdness. But that was a LONG time ago and those old draft docs are covered in cobwebs now.
8) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH yes, yes I have.
9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
You bet your fine ass I do! I usually write smutty one-shots with an extra helping of emotional bonding, but sometimes I'll write mild kink stuff. I don't usually put smut into my longer works, just because it takes me so long to write it that it will slog down my workflow.
10) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of, but if anyone sees my work on a site other than Ao3, let me know! Ao3 is all I will ever post on.
11) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope! I've thought about translating some of my fics into other languages I'm studying, but German is my most fluent and I'm not that confident in my German abilities, so I haven't yet. If someone liked my fic enough to want to translate it, I'd be more than open to working with them. My focus would be to preserve the story itself and any wordplay/comparisons of importance over word-for-word prose.
12) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Sort of, yes! I worked with someone several years ago to organize a mutual RP transcript into a fic, but I lost steam on it and it sits unfinished, likely for the rest of time.
13) What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I'm not actually sure. I think it depends on the fandom. I'm head over heels for Tam*shipping (Yu-Gi-Oh), but AbsoluteContr*lshipping (Pokemon) has been a constant for me for some years now. And I'll always ship Namel*ssshipping (Pokemon). And then there's Roadm* (Overwatch), which I can never abandon because as far as I know, I'm still the only author for it. But, I don't think it's my favorite of all time. I ship a lot of things.
I'm gonna go with Tam*shipping, since seeing those two will always make me happy without fail.
14) What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
At this point, probably To Hear from You Again. Which to me is a bit unfortunate, since I loved developing the world for it, but motivation is a fickle thing and despite having the rest of the chapters mapped out, I don't see myself working on it anytime soon.
15 & 16) What are your writing strengths/ weaknesses?
Strengths are plot cohesiveness and situational humor.
Weaknesses are descriptions aka showing not telling, and always getting sucked into rarepair hell I mean uhhhh ignoring canon when I didn't actually mean to.
17) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Oh boy. Okay. So. Small things, okay. Little things. Petnames. Flavor text. Niet instead of No, Hola instead of Hello, Danke instead of Thank You. Okay. Good even. Especially if the character does it in canon. If you write Professor Sycamore and you have him say some French? Canon accurate. Good. Bueno.
But please don't have entire dialog sections in another language. 95% of your fic really should be the tagged language. Tagged language says "You can understand and read this fic if you know [tagged language]". And please, for the love of all that is holy and unholy, do your fucking research before using foreign words. ESPECIALLY for confessions of love. ESPECIALLY FOR CONFESSIONS OF LOVE. Thank you.
18) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
I'm saying The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde/The Glass Scientists (stating both because I wrote for a mix of both canons) because everything I wrote for prior to joining Ao3 doesn't need to see sunlight.
19) What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?
You know how I always joke that favorite questions are like choosing children, and then I state my favorite like it was nothing? Yeah, not this time. Idk what my favorite fic ever is, and I guarantee you it's different from two years ago and will be different from two years from now.
For the sake of choosing one, I'm going to say How the Universe Comes Together (Roadm*/Roadr*tma, fluffy Roadhog love all around). It was written as a proof of concept for a ship that started as a joke but very quickly became my Overwatch top ship. Ultimate rarepair hell is starting a pairing yourself, and Roadm* was my gateway drug to maximum rare pairs. Not to mention, it was SO much fun to write and play with the world I devved, so I can never forget it.
I tag @kevlar01 @jay-the-angst-king @nintendogal55 and @atembomb as my little game victims kekeke.
