omg 3 is a LOT! i work in a bookstore and read their and abt 5 more hrs a day because i have no social life lol but my point is i do books for a living! most of my friends read 12-20 books this year and ur right on track! here’s some advice i hope is helpful! if others want to share their thoughts, pls do

1. i just got a kindle and obsessed and knocking books out left and right!

2. use ur library and dnf books u rnt feeling within ~50 pages! it takes me 3x as long to get through a book i dont love and its hard to motivate myself to sit down and open it. i put this w/using libraries because it makes it guiltless to dnf! i used to buy books and felt like i was wasting $20 if i stopped! now i have a list of the books ive read i want to own and am curating my bookshelf:)

3. join book clubs! my gf has joined 3 since meeting me and reads abt a book a week now, where before they were reading 1 a month. this might contradict dnfing books u dont love but will motivate u to find out the genres u like and step out of ur comfort zone

4. audiobooks! if you can do it, they count and anyone who says they dont is lying! a lot of ppl i know cant do audiobooks; i can only do them for memoirs (where i feel like km listening to a podcast). i recommend libby (free) or libro.fm (ethical alternative to amazon).

5. join storygraph!! it helps u track ur reading and u can put in annual page and book goals and tells u if uve fallen behind! it motivates me to stay on stop of my goal, i want to see my stats grow and diversify, and im lowkey competitive so seeing my friends read im like I WANNA READ TOO

6. find friends who read! nothing like getting a book rec from them! and nothing like sharing ur thoughts abt a book with them! or recommending to them! i love my bookish community and they inspire me to read diversely every day

7. white noise! something ive started doing when reading is putting in headphones and playing white noise. reading gets me out of my head and this does too. i can just focus on the words on the device and i feel like im in my enclosure!

8. invest in a good reading spot in ur home. if u can find a place that works for u, whether it be ur bed, couch, or a reading nook. commit to sitting there for 20-30 minutes a day with ur device on the other side of the room! if u read 30 mins/day u’ll likely finish a book abt every 2 weeks!

9. turn to your book, not ur phone. have 10 minutes of downtime? grab ur book, not social media. these minutes add up and u’ll find u’ll want to pick ur book up more as u get in the habit. especially before bed or first thing in the morning! or if u watch youtube when u eat alone, read instead:)

10. take time picking a book! a lot of my non-bookish friends think they can just pick up any book on the shelf, but as i said in 2. if u dont like the book, u wont read it. do research! if theres an identity you want a main character to have so its relatable, find it! if u know u like YA books, browse that section of ur library. this is also why storygraph is so great- it recommends based off taste and a personalized algorithm! theres also a lot of quizzes and lists (bookriot i recommend) to find books! it takes time to find ur book preferences, but once u do, it will be easier to feel success in reading!

Tour da Tirupati

            Well last weekend we went to tirupati for darshan . So I am giving my insights about this unforgettable tour . 

            One of us had great desire to go to Tirupati for darshan so we planned this tour. But not many were ready for this tour due to different reasons . But at last we were 7 members for this tour .

            We started on friday night from Banglore through travels and reach at Tirupati at 6 in the morning . And one guy came from Tirchi but he was late by almost 1.30 hrs. We decided to go by footsteps from Tirupati to Tirumala which is almost 11.5 km (almost 3500 steps). Expectation was that we will get special token through which we will get quick darshan .  But the plan went drastically wrong due to half research (The phrase “Half knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge” became true .) . According to our research we were expected to get tokens midway through the path. But we didn’t know that limited tokens are available everyday and it is on first come first serve basis .  And the fact that it was Saturday (holiday and auspicious day of the God) means we won’t get it any way. 

           So we somehow reach Tirumala by 12 in the afternoon and started in the queue . Now we thought we will darshan by 2-3 in the night . And we stand in the queue almost for 6 hours but the queue was moving very slowly. So me with one more guy tried to track the flow of queue darshan and by some fortune we were able to break into the main darshan counter. (Where we get the token and laddu coupon ) . We both were very happy , we thought now we will be able to do the darshan in 3-4 hours . We told the same way to other guys also but they were unable to come through that path . We were feeling very proud that we did something extra ordinary than others but now the fun begins . we took the token and laddu coupon and went up near the chamber only to know that it will take almost 9 pm next day for darshan (chamber no. 25) .  We were shell-shocked to see it and we leave the though of darshan at that very instance . 

         Now our target was to get atleast laddu , so we started the search for laddu . Our thinking was “Darshan nahi to nahi lekin laddu jaroori hai ” . But when we reach in the laddu counter ,we came to know that we wont get laddu because we didn’t attain the darshan and the coupon will only be available on 6 in the morning , the following day. Now we realize that our tour is as flop as letest aamir khan movie “Thugs  of Hindustan” . The feeling was like the famous phrase in Marathi reading  (Telhi gele tupahi gele hati dhupatne ale ) . but laddu to jaroori hai so we bought 2 laddu costing 50 each and eat it there. Our bags were also in locker and we could have got it back only after 2 hrs after the submission . So we roam around the temple and did the darshan from outside. There was live traditional  dance program was going on , we watch that also for some time . 

      Then finally we got out mobile and bags back after 2 hrs . So we inqure about others if they reach to counters or not (We were hoping that they won’t make it to counter) . But when we call them , they were on counter , they already had taken the laddu coupons and about to submit the bag . we tried to convince them not to submit the bags but they were like (Itta to cut hi chuka hai to purahi cut ne do ) and they submitted the bag . Our feeling was also like (Hamara bhi to cut hi gaya hai , unhe bhi cutwane do ).  So they went in only to come out collecting bags around 9.45 . Then we book the return ticket and came back to Banglore.

        So I can say , this was the super flop tour anyone ever part of . We were flop on every front , our every decision was wrong . But still we got many learning from this tour . The thing was everybody was bit too careless , no one gather enough information about the place .  Also we gather incomplete information about footsteps way for darshan which eventually cost us more . There was no seriousness about the tour before it started . 

        Now we are condoling ourself saying “Failure teaches you more than success” . But inside of us , we know that this kind of failure has nothing to do with the above phrase and what happened was real c........

I was hit from behind on Tuesday morning, called my insurance right after, the next day got my police report (like I was told) and gave me insurance the information, I also called the persons who hit me insurance and gave them the information, it turns out that on Wednesday this woman hadn't even filed a claim yet, nor picked up the police report (by law in NY state any accident that has damage reaching over $1,000 has to be sent to Albany by the people) I sent mine Tuesday morning.     I was told within 24 hours a rep would call and send someone out to see my car, I figured that being it was late Wednesday already by Thursday or Friday I'd hear something. Turns out nothing yet, and when calling again this woman STILL hasn't filed a claim or picked up her police report.    I plan on calling my insurance again but what is going on? How long must I wait for this, my car is damaged badly and needs to be fixed and I feel this woman should pay for this, and all she has caused me?    What should be my next move here?

I was hit from behind on Tuesday morning, called my insurance right after, the next day got my police report (like I was told) and gave me insurance the information, I also called the persons who hit me insurance and gave them the information, it turns out that on Wednesday this woman hadn't even filed a claim yet, nor picked up the police report (by law in NY state any accident that has damage reaching over $1,000 has to be sent to Albany by the people) I sent mine Tuesday morning.     I was told within 24 hours a rep would call and send someone out to see my car, I figured that being it was late Wednesday already by Thursday or Friday I'd hear something. Turns out nothing yet, and when calling again this woman STILL hasn't filed a claim or picked up her police report.    I plan on calling my insurance again but what is going on? How long must I wait for this, my car is damaged badly and needs to be fixed and I feel this woman should pay for this, and all she has caused me?    What should be my next move here?

Car insurance issues help wanted?

have a few issues I could really use some help with. The family car that I have been driving wasn't in my name but I was still covered on the insurance until one day I hit a mailbox with the passenger side mirror. The mailbox did not sustain any damage but the mirror somewhat did. I didn't call the police when it happened since the damage was extremely minimal. Anyways, then a couple weeks later a different family member (not the owner) had a little bit of a bigger accident when an animal suddenly appeared in front of the car forcing another accident. I have not had an accident in over 12 years but since I was mentioned after that second accident, I was also excluded from the insurance policy for that vehicle. The insurance cost is something like $158.00 per month but now they want the owner to add about $50 or $60 more per month EACH for the 2 people that were excluded because of the accidents.The car payment is about $415.00 per month and the insurance was $158.00 per month for just the owned which does not even drive the car at all but now they want an extra hundred per month for those 2 excluded drivers if they want to drive that car. Will this change if we switched insurance companies? And if I haven't had an accident in over 12 years, would it be possible to appeal that? Thanks in advance""

Ok, so I live here in phoenix arizona. I haven't had insurance on my car for a while up until Friday November 2, 2012 when I got paid from work. (Don't harass me for this it was a stupid decision. I live five minutes away from my work and that is all I do is work and home). Now, was heading into work and I thought I was parked. I was on private property, I was at Arrowhead Mall here in az. 14 Km Long Sunflower

"Ohhhh SM, palengke oh", the loud voice of the barker as I'm approaching the jeepney.  I'm in a hurry so I'm rushing myself already for I don't want to be affronted by our old teacher who's really good in putting students on shame. "There's still two!" these words are  very sinful on my ears for I cant really see where to sit myself after the barker saying there's still two. I didnt look for another jeep for I know that would just consume some more time.

 As a student who entered the field of Social Science, reading files of books with discombobulated theories, perceptions, ideals and  assumptions is more than necessary. With this in our nature, I couldn't imagine myself having free time doing luxury or what, I often spend my vacant reading articles, news or whatever our proctor might ask and require. I usually bring weighty of books in my bag, I read some while on my way to school or home. This day was just a typical like the others. I opened the bag, get a certain book to read and just cover my face with kerchief. Out of my clumsiness, the book that I'm reading fell and was about to fly by the wind outside the jeep. I just closed my eyes for I know this day would be a tragic one. I'm hearing the reactions of the other people in the jeep and maybe its my time to go back for my book. I opened my eyes and  an old woman beside me perfectly caught my book. I sighed out of worry and thanked the woman for being reactive, more than me. 

 "Oh what an interesting book. Do you like me to just tell you the story of this?" the woman offered. Her voice attracted me like a sweet chocolate drink in the morning and since I don't want to look rude so I let her so. She smiled at me and began to tell the story like a woman in spectacle chronicling that long time ago in a collegiate academe, there were best of friends. They offer each others' shoulder to lean on, they really love one another to the point that they even have the same print on the undergarments. Shanine, the loud girl and Marga, the crooked one are used of staying at each others' house. Movie marathon, stalking, checking their friendster accounts to search for cuties are just some of their norms as best of friends. Only later had Shanine knew that Marga has a brother, for whenever they are at Marga's house, nothing surrounds the house but their resounding laugh and cries. Maybe because that Marga's brother is very naive and silent, a real opposite of them who are loquacious and maladroit. Shanine promised herself that she wont marry that type of boy. A dry, mousy and dull guy. Only little does she knows that later on her journey, that boy will be her husband. 

 Time took the wheel and the hour glass turn again, Shanine and marga's brother had been married. People don't know really what happened, even the couple themselves. Maybe the stone aged saying of the old tongues is true. You can never teach or dictate the will of the heart. After their wedding, Shanine took BS Secondary Education major in English as her profession and her husband as an animator. Every single day of Shanine's work, her husband leaves her a strand of lively and fresh picked sunflower. They may not tell each other the sweetest of words but they can show their love for each other by minimal and implicit concerns and care. Shanine is blessed to have children not from her womb but from her heart. She finds joy with the children who can she turn to when she's longing to have a child.  

 One night, as she opens the door of their house from work, she saw petals of sunflower scattered all around. Twinkling lights, scent of pancakes, oozing aroma of a brewed coffee in a silent and naive night, everything was just perfect. She left her bag on the sofa and followed the petals and lights which led her to their house attic. There, a bouquet of sunflower awaits her. There were candles around, coffee and pancake on top of their mandala comforter, a fine mix and match of pillows, all as romantic moment for them. Her husband remained silent. He just stared at shanine's eyes as if she is the universe of him. He tapped the space beside him, inviting shanine to sit with him. Shanine with an inexpiable  smile on her face, stepped her feet in the silent of the night and sat beside her husband. Her husband offered hera warm latte with cookies along. Upon sipping her latte, her husband just starred at her, he reached his hand unto Shanine's chin. His eyes are speaking like an honest morning star. "I may not be the sweetest among your lovers but one thing I know, I won't get tired of loving you every minute of our everyday. You are the only flower that I will always pick" he promised. Shanine kept the words on herself and just spoke with her tears. That night was just pure joy and grace. Hope and love surrounded them as they watch the refulgent charm of the constellations above. 

 "That ends the story child" the old woman said. I cant tell the old woman anything for I'm still astounded. "Wonderful isnt it?" she asked. "Y-Y-Yes, and thank you for doing the thing for me. I was moved by the way you told the story, like it's really vivid and spotless." I replied. "Yes it is" she replied in return. Then I saw her eyes starring at me like the universe speaking and captivating me. Im sure of one thing now. "Are you.." she interrupted me, not before my question was finished. "There are things better left unknown. Let the thing speak for itself" she replied with a comforting smile. She gave me the book again after holding it tight upon telling me the story. Beside my book, I've noticed a strand of sunflower on her hand. "If you would not mind, can I ask why are you bringing a strand of sunflower?" I turned to her . "I stopped on writing stories and so did he" she answered in a hopeful voice.  

 "ohhh Those who'll drop at Lagundi ohh" the driver shouted. I have'nt noticed that I'm still on the jeepney. Though I wanted to stay just to have a word with the old woman, my feet are constantly moving outside the jeep like they are used of their daily routine. "Write the greatest story of yours, child" the old woman whispered unto me before I went out of the jeep. "I will" I assured her with a smile. 

 As the jeepney comes far away from my sight, I can still see the eyes of the old woman starring straight to the sunflower that she's holding like an unfailing lover in juvenile time who will visit her loved one. With that scene alone, I think I've seen the unwritten ending of their story. I brought my sight to the book that I have in hands. A colorful book cover of an old couple with sunflowers behind and stars above captured my eyes. I began talking to myself like an oaf saying "They haven't stopped writing and illustrating because their passion has gone, they did for in their last ages they have created already the greatest love book of all."

I hope you are ready to improve and expand your vocabulary today because I am about to drop a very complicated word. Complicit | km-pli-st | adjective. Merriam-Webster defines it as helping to commit a crime or do wrong in some way. One could, for example, say that Ivanka Trump is complicit in her dads mission to enrich himself at the expense of the US.

Indeed, Saturday Night Live said just that on, er, Saturday night. The comedy show, which has been making headlines in recent months with its lampooning of the Trump regime, featured a parody advert for an Ivanka Trump perfume. Complicit: The fragrance for the woman who could stop all of this, but wont. As Ivanka, played by Scarlett Johansson, slinks sultrily through glamorous party scenes, a voiceover narrates: Shes a woman who knows what she wants. And knows what shes doing. Complicit.

The sketch has caused quite a stir. Not least because it has finally exposed the shocking fact, long ignored by mainstream media, that many Americans, even the SNL-watching coastal elites, arent entirely sure what complicit means. The show spurred a large spike in searches for of the word online. As of Tuesday morning, its still among Merriam Websters top trending words along with neophyte, incredulous and refute. I dont want to refute the dictionarys data but I am incredulous that so many Americans are lexical neophytes. As the president would say: sad!

Anyway, Im not here to make a mockery of the American educational system. Thats Betsy DeVoss job. Im here to say: finally! |f-nl-, fn-l | adverb. Finally, it looks as if we might have stopped giving Ivanka the benefit of the doubt, which she has enjoyed for far too long. Ivanka has certainly not been immune to criticism (see, eg, the 73,461 articles explaining why she is not a real feminist), but the liberal media has been eager to see the best in her. There seems to be a widespread desire to view Ivanka as Trumps moral compass, a voice of reasonableness, a moderating guide.

Part of this is just desperation. Trump is a loose cannon; its calming to think theres a safety mechanism in place ensuring he doesnt go off. And so we clutch at any straws we can to reassure ourselves that Ivanka is smart, she hangs out with liberals, shell make everything OK.

And Ivanka has been very savvy in ensuring that there are just enough straws to clutch at. Last month, for example, it was reported that Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, persuaded Trump not to sign an executive order that would have rolled back LGBT rights. Much of this coverage was sickeningly gushing and quick to reassert the notion that Ivanka and Kushner are somehow independent from the president. The New York Times, for example, reminded us that: Mr Kushner, a lifelong Democrat, and Ms Trump, an independent, travel in liberal social circles and have long supported LGBT rights. Funnily enough, all this reporting about LGBT saviours Mr Kushner and Ms Trump seemed to stem from multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, which one imagines was probably Ms Trumps PR people.

Its also hard to think of Ivanka as being a terrible person when much of the criticism of her centred on her profiting from her lifestyle brands. Her peddling of kitten heels and suede tote bags and her saccharine-sweet Instagram account make her seem less like a woman complicit in the serious destruction of millions of peoples rights and more like a girl just trying to have fun, as her dad tramples democracy.

Ivanka Trump may have a jewellery and fashion line but her real brand is herself, and it is an impressive balancing act; theres something there for everyone. A mum, a daughter, a wife, an educated businesswoman married to a Jew. She appeals to Trumps heartland while simultaneously appeasing liberals. She is an attractive package.

And attractive, really, is the operating word. One wonders whether the media would have cut Ivanka quite so much slack if she werent so photogenic. Were all affected by beauty bias and multiple studies show that were more likely to be forgiving towards attractive women who behave unfairly. Ivanka isnt the only woman close to an authoritarian figure who has been protected by pretty woman privilege. Vogue published a flattering profile (A Rose in the Desert) on Asma al-Assad in 2012, for example, as her husband Bashar al-Assad was murdering Syrians. And we seem more keen to view Melania Trump as a victim than as possessing any agency. Her miserable demeanour at the inauguration led to #freemelania trending and widespread expressions of sympathy.

Ivanka and Melania dont deserve our sympathy. They are not victims, theyre profiteers. And Ivanka deserves far better than our excuses. She is far more than a daughter stuck in a difficult position. She is an intelligent woman who has shrewdly benefited from sexist notions of women as nurturers rather than murderers. If we continue to allow her that narrative then we too are complicit.
