Season 8 is crazy because you know Scully is pregnant but the show never specified how/why she ended up unable to conceive after her abduction and they don't even suggest until episode 13 that there is something wrong. For half a season, they leave you believing Mulder is simply genetically strong enough to have knocked her up somewhere during season 7 and not even Scully herself questions it. Skinner doesn't even blink twice, ofc its Mulder's baby.
