Minthara's story is funny (because she gets her freedom and still chooses to be evil) but it is also very tragic. Like her autonomy was taken from her to the point where she was enthusiastic to serve a god that made her abandon her own, one that she followed for 250 years. And abandoning it resulted in the loss of her home, her culture, and her family.

And that loss led her to the realization that Lolth's followers are in a cult, that at the slightest infraction after 250 of complete and ardent servitude she was left with nothing. So she has to move forward with her life as a rogue soldier. Her oath is to the person who rescued her, someone who could easily abandon her as well. She has nothing left but herself.

All she knows is vengeance, there's nothing else to live for because everything has been taken from her. So it makes perfect sense that she strives for power, constantly, to take back an ounce of what she once had
