Stay With Me (Aaravos x Reader)

🥀CW: angst, mentions of nightmares/aaravos being trapped, happy ending + fluff

you werent sure what woke you as your eyes lazily opened. it seemed like a normal night, at least for you. the past few weeks had been so hectic with aaravos being freed and getting to reunite with him, however you were glad for the break to just rest. you missed having your precious lover by your side. the moon was hidden behind clouds, yet starlight shown through the window adjacent with your side of the bed, illuminating the room around you. you turn over to admire your partner, aaravos always looks so ethereal when he was asleep. the light from the sky seemed to shine just for him, making aaravos appear wreathed in soft, elegant light. as you watched him in adoration, you suddenly took notice of the fact that he was shivering slightly. thinking he was cold, you gently moved to pull the blankets higher atop him yet as you moved in closer you suddenly heard him whisper

"please... no... no not again..." you froze, looking down at your loved one and suddenly realizing what was wrong. aaravos' face was twisted in what looked like pain, and even in his sleep fear seemed to waft off him. he was twitching and shaking, and he kept muttering soft pleas and cries of help. you shifted in the bed, uncertain what to do. gently, you began to cradle him in your arms, and he curled into you in his sleep. a warm drop falls on your arm, and you realize with a cold shock that aaravos was crying.

you had barely ever seen him cry before he was imprisoned, yet afterwards you had seen him weep much more, but never like this. never in such a vulnerable position, never in an environment where he couldn't have easily taken the upper hand. you go to shake him awake as his cries and sobs become more violent, his whole body seeming to quiver and heave. suddenly, he shot up, gasping and clawing at the blankets. you lean back abruptly, watching the look of genuine fear on aaravos' face slowly melt into confusion, then understanding, and finally pure pain.

"aaravos, my love... are you ok?" as he heard your words, he turned to look at you, face conflicted with emotions.

"it is nothing to worry about my starling, i merely..." he cut off with a sigh. wordlessly, you scoot back towards him and open your arms. the look on his face makes your heart feel as though it will shatter into a million pieces, and after a few seconds of hesitation, aaravos melted into your embrace. he curled up, nuzzling into the crook of your neck. you could feel his shaky breathing on your collarbone, and you wished you could take away all the pain that he carried.

"its okay. you can cry, your safe. your safe and i love you, never forget that." as soon as the words left your mouth, you felt him convulse and his body began to shake again, wreaked with sobs. you werent sure how long the both of you stayed like that, your hands running through his hair, his arms wrapped so tight around you as though in fear you would slip from between his grasp and disappear.

after awhile, his breathing began to slow and his crying silenced soon after.

"aaravos?" you call softly, and he hums halfheartedly in response.

"what happened in that dream?" you dare to ask. for a few long seconds, you sit in silence, fearing that you made a mistake. slowly, he takes a deep breath and replies,

"they... they took you. i was captured again, but this time... they took you and killed you and... and all i could do was watch. it was... you were just gone. there was nothing i could do." his words send a chill down your spine, and you pull him even closer.

"aaravos, i will never, never let that happen do you understand? they will never take me away from you, i love you and nothing can change that." silence filled the room again. after a few seconds, aaravos' broken and shaky voice replied

"i love you too." you smile softly into his hair, careful not to let his horns poke you. gently, ever so gently you pull away, and he looks at you. tears are still streaked down his face, and his lip is quivering slightly, but he manages to smile in spite of himself. you smile too, and he lets out a contented sigh. the both of you may have been separated, but neither of you will ever let it happen again.

just a little thing i pulled from the crack of my ass to give to you guys, its angst to fluff. this isnt super proof read IM SORRY <\3 idk where all my inspiration is coming from at this point but rahh i wrote three things today r u proud of me/hj. i actually kinda like this one i also kinda hate it but im tired and in pain so this is the best ur gonna get. anyways hope u enjoyed!!!!!!
