Any chance for new snippets from ring maker fic?😉 Plus I totally agree with your comments about Michael’s feelings!
I have been writing, it's about 45,000 words now, I'm hoping I can get it to the finish line in the next week or so. I'm a bit salty from last night so this snippet contains the "villain" of my story, Forrest Long.
so not forrest long friendly! and it's still pretty rough.
Previous snippets : 1 , 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
The small bit of glass drew him back to his workbench. Hope was still a dangerous thing to him as he set to work on a second ring, but maybe it was time to be brave. Just as he was about to separate a new disk of tungsten to work into a ring, he heard Walt’s voice from the front of the shop, “The UFO museum is right down the road if you want to gawk at something and not buy anything-”
That was a very rude observation, even for Walt, who had no patience for a lot of the undecided tourist crowd that wandered through their door but still managed to coax them into buying something. Perhaps he had been left alone too long in the role of shop clerk while Michael had had his private breakdowns about Alex in the workshop over the last week, to remember the first rule of retail. Tell the customer what they want.
It was time to stop hiding with his kiln and to face his responsibilities as the other half of ownership.
Michael stood up, brushed off his hands and straightened his clothes. He prepared himself to charm whatever particularly clueless tourist that had wandered into his shop and smooth over the ruffled edges from Walt’s derision. Pasting on his face his retail worker smile, he stepped into the main room of the store and then stopped dead at who he saw before him.
Walt’s insolence made a whole lot more sense to Michael just then. Standing in his store, with his hands all over the clean, glass cabinets was Alex’s boyfriend, Forrest Long.
Fuck his life.
Forrest snapped his head up from his perusal of the display, and then flashed a wide smile at Michael’s appearance. “Well, we meet again, Michael, isn’t it?” His voice was sweet as honey. “Your boss over here has a strange way of greeting customers. How does this shop stay in business?”
“I ain’t his boss, and we do just fine for business,” Sanders cut in, before picking up his bottle of Windex from under the cabinet and glared at the other man. Michael knew exactly what he was planning, and it wasn’t to clean off the prints from the glass surface, that was for sure.
He swiftly moved to cut him off from spraying Forrest, sliding in front of him smoothly. “That’s true, he’s not my boss, um, we co-own the shop together.” Michael turned to Walt, who was glowering at him in disappointment. “Why don’t you take a break and get some lunch.”
“It’s too late for lunch.”
“Then an early dinner.”
Walt looked mulish at the suggestion, before reading the seriousness in Michael’s jawline and backed off. “Fine, I’ll head off, I was gonna check in with Arturo anyway about getting a cup of coffee after his lunch rush. If you’ve got this all under control.” Walt glanced dismissively at Forrest before turning back to Michael. “But you call me if you need me… to pick you up something too.”
With that, Walt disappeared back into the private area of the shop, presumably on his way out the backdoor to their neighbor, the Crashdown. Michael turned back to Forrest, who was still looking around the store with bored interest on his face. “Is there something in particular you’re looking for that I can help you with?”
“Hmm, I stopped in here looking for answers, can you help me with that? I’ve been trying to pin my boyfriend down for lunch, but he’s always busy, and apparently he’s always busy here.” Forrest’s genial smile didn’t waver as he stared at Michael. “Did you give Alex a job or something?”
“Or something,” Michael answered evenly. “I can tell you he’s not on the payroll.”
“That’s very funny.” He kept smiling at Michael, but it never reached his eyes. “He’s not much of a shopper, so I’m very curious. According to Alex you’re old high school friends. So what is this, just two old friends catching up? Every day for the last two weeks?”
“Are you following him or something?”
“No, that was just a guess, but thank you for confirming it.” Forrest smirked smugly, before giving Michael a searching glance from head to toe. “I have a hard time buying the ‘friends’ story. I know all of Alex’s friends from Roswell. He talked a lot about Maria and Liz over the years. He’s never mentioned you.”
Michael glanced down, hooding his expression as he examined his work below, gleaming on the dark velvet. He hoped the gesture hid his anger. “Maybe I’m not very memorable.”
“Oh, I find that hard to believe. Alex, he’s never been one to hang around if he’s bored. Trust me.” A lock of dark hair fell over his eye before he shook it back into place with a practiced move. He brought his hand up to his chin, tapping it thoughtfully. His hand was adorned with several heavy rings, including an ugy signet on his ring finger. Michael didn’t see a space for a wedding ring or engagement ring on the other man’s finger, or space for anything outside of egoism. “He played the field for a while, but you know, I was the one who outlasted all the others.”
“Yeah he mentioned you guys have only been together for the last two years.”
Forrest’s face flinched minutely, Michael’s observation landing a very neat hit. “It’s been three years.”
Michael shrugged, not arguing the point. He knew what Alex had said to him about their relationship, and so did Forrest, based on the joke he had made the other night.
“Well, if you really know Alex, then you know how he can be. A bit closed off from his heart and his head.” Forrest waited for a reaction, before continuing with a slight edge to his voice when Michael remained bland. “I can tell there’s a bit of history here. Something unrequited? Let me guess, did you have a crush on him in high school or something? Then you lost touch with him when you went to college?”
Unrequited.
Michael kept himself from laughing, although there was a shade of truth in that word. Unrequited as a unit of measurement could mean a number of things. After all, there were several ways he had never measured up when it came to shared feelings. Shared dreams. Shared weakness. He considered it unrequited when it came to believing they would end up together one day. He considered it unrequited when he thought about how Alex could ever consider marrying this prick in the first place.
Outloud, Michael shook his head, “Nah, I never went to college.”
“So what are you to him? His old townie fling then?” The derision dripped heavily in the air between them.
“You’ll have to ask Alex that.” Michael kept his retail-smile in place with effort. “If you dare, that is. I mean, I suppose if you’re a gifted writer, you might be able to come up with a way to ask him that without coming off as a jealous prick. But I wouldn’t bet money on that.”
This time Michael scored an even deeper hit, invoking the implication of jealousy. Forrest licked his lips in response, and looked down, avoiding Michael’s gaze obviously. His fingers tapped restlessly on the glass. “You’re probably right. That’s not a great look for me, to be threatened by you of all people. I’m going to blame this on too much time staring at microfiche.”
“Sure. If the shoe fits.”
Instead of firing back, Forrest pressed his finger on the glass over the turquoise jewelry arrangement. “Interesting shade of blue in your inventory.” Michael fought with the urge to use Walt’s Windex on the other man, but stayed unmoving as he continued lightly, “I think it’s unique only to Roswell and only to stones mined in the last seventy-some years. The book I’m writing, it’s all about the late 1940s and Roswell. Lots of secrets and mysteries here after World War II.”
“I wouldn’t know. My high school history class was a little limited in scope.”
Forrest smiled again, back to the too-friendly expression of before. All of his previous attempts at intimidating Michael had vanished, covered up by the veneer of politeness. “I’ll be sure to send you an advanced copy then.” He tapped the case again with his ugly signet ring, before backing away toward the door. “It was nice getting to know you better, Michael.”
Michael didn’t bother with a response. He didn’t trust himself to make a polite one. God, after he had met the man at Ann’s pre-wedding party, he had left the event without having any idea what Alex saw in the guy. He was even more confused now about the appeal for Alex. Perhaps it was petty of him to believe, but there was no way it was good sex. The way Forrest had turned every subject back on himself, even at the party, Michael had a hard time seeing him as an unselfish lover.
Not for the first time, he thought that Alex had deliberately sought out a partner that wouldn’t remind him of their past, of Michael. He was starting to see that it might be a good thing, he wasn’t coming up short in the comparison with Forrest. Literally or metaphorically.
He heard the backdoor to the store open and close heavily. After a moment, Walt was back at his side. Without speaking, Michael handed the bottle of Windex over to him with a roll of paper towels. He snatched it from Michael’s grasp greedily, like he was being reunited with a long, lost companion, and spraying it heavily over the jewelry display case, targeting the prints. With one swipe of a towel, he erased all signs of Forrest Long from their store.
“Oh shucks, is Shorty gone?”
“Yes, he just left.”
“Did you call him a cab so he could get home?”
Michael turned to Walt, and lifted his eyebrow curiously. “Why would I call him a cab? Didn’t he drive here?”
“Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. All I know is that we had a car in our lot that didn’t belong to a paying customer, so I had it towed.” Walt wiped the glass with a shade more enthusiasm than the task really merited, with a butter-wouldn't-melt-in-his-mouth smile of faux innocence. “It was Arturo’s idea.”

20 Years of Comfort Characters
Tumblr media
Today is my 20th birthday, and I decided to draw every comfort character I've had since I was very young. You can notice there is a diverse amount of characters in this photo XD, some of them were really special to me growing up, but they all have made an impact on me. I also did NOT include every comfort character I've had in my entire life, as I was unable to include some characters I really wanted to include.

Time for another one of those tag games, thanks to being tagged by @bibliomatsuri. So here's my response “to list 10 of my favorite characters from 10 different fandoms,“ so here I go:
Sanders Sides - Remus Sanders (I love all the dorks but this man has stuck me with THE most pervasive brain rot. As y'all could probably tell. Even though I relate most to Logan/Virgil/Janus... he's just that infectious of a brain goblin, pffft.)
The Umbrella Academy - Klaus Hargreeves. I love that he exudes a similar chaotic energy to Remus. (They're all pretty delightfully dysfunctional people though.)
Encanto - Bruno Madrigal. Another Remus Energy Pick. (Though I relate to Luisa more...)
Final Fantasy (FF6) - Kefka Palazzo. Idec if he's a blatant a Joker Expy. "Dancing Mad" is S-Tier Final Boss Music.
Danny Phantom - There was a hot minute where it was Freakshow (clowns, man)... but now I think it's a toss up between Dark Danny, Clockwork, and Danny. Probably Dark Danny, because TUE was terrifying and the BEST episode, imo. (Though I've kind of related to Jazz and Sam a decent amount.)
Marvel Comics - Spider-man. (It really is a split between Peter and Miles, for me tbh. Also love the Marvel Zombies run so much. And I know Danny was a bit of a Spidey Expy.)
Gravity Falls - Stan Pines or Bill Cipher. For wildly different reasons. :,D (Soos and others were great too.)
Soul Eater - Crona Makenshi. (But Dr. Stein is a runner-up, love mad scientists types.)
Breaking Bad - Skyler or Jesse, probably? (But there's a lot to pick from for interesting characters here. Walt gets to be DELIGHTFULLY punchable as things go along there.)
The Spoony Experiment - Dr. Insano. Mad. Scientist. (In full acknowledgement of how CA/TGWTG/TSE/etc. turned out, it was my first actual active fandom involvement.)
And I'm gonna tag (an arbitrary number of people) @milktea531 @r0sethrills @falconwhitaker @aliensnipe @chromorbid @electropath @moonlightsmasquerade
(Of course, the usual, preemptive apologies to anyone here who doesn't want to be tagged in these things. And even if you haven't been tagged, you can obv do this if you want to, ig.)

Hyper-fixations!! (aka- my stan list)
yo so I've realized I always hyper-fixate on characters in media that I either relate to, wish to be like, or draw comfort from.... so bc I'm bored here's some peeps in this category:
•Taako (The Adventure Zone Balance) - want to be like - openly himself, multidimensional, fully realized creation, loved by many, charismatic, in a good and healthy relationship (thats also so supportive and cute and god wheres my gf version of kravitz???), unapologetic, went through some shit and came out different and with issues but is still just good, loves family, passionate
•Angus McDonald (The Adventure Zone Balance) - comfort character - hes just a sweet lil guy who just loves his weird found family and is just so smart and precious and i love him with my whole soul and being, makes me smile whenever he pops up
•Magic Brian (The Adventure Zone Balance) - comfort character - can never fail to make me laugh and smile
•Hurley (The Adventure Zone Balance) - relate to - a small ball of energy, typically a rule follower but likes to stray away sometimes, a gay!!, lowkey likes to race in my jeep (its only with my one friend and its not a legit race but we say it is and its v fun)
•Carey Fangbattle (The Adventure Zone Balance) - relate to / want to be like - tiny but big personality, a gay!!, fiesty, sneaky, tough cookie, loves a tall butch girl (i do not have a tall butch girl to love but maybe someday!!), badass little rogue (i wish)
•Virgil "Anxiety" Sanders (Sanders Sides/Thomas Sanders) - relate to - anxious ball of something, many people consider cute although deny it / dont believe it, self deprecating!!, needs a hug, tries to be intimidating but fails, the mom™ friend
•Lapis Lazuli (Steven Universe) - relate to - felt lost, felt ostracized from friends (sometimes true sometimes not - gee, cognitive distortions are a bitch), found people and felt comfortable and at home with them, found family, self deprecating, separates self to not get hurt, wants to protect but also avoid, sad™
•Peridot (Steven Universe) - comfort character - had genuine growth as a character which is nice to see, is silly but also can be serious, makes me smile whenever i see her
•Howl (Howl’s Moving Castle) - relate to / want to be like - very much himself, overdramatic af (drama queen and a diva), sees the best in people, cares based on personality rather than looks (calls an old lady beautiful bc she has a good heart), a versatile lgbt (looks and acts like a gay but dates a pretty girl, the dream ngl), fashionable af and dyes hair fun colors
•Calcifer (Howl’s Moving Castle) - relate to - sassy little bitch, underappreciated until absolutely needed, small and typically seen as tame but can have a big personality at times
•Sophie Hatter (Howl’s Moving Castle) - relate to / want to be like - the odd one out, seen as ordinary, never the pretty one but always the average or forgettable one, always someone better and not often liked, when liked its always true and based on a beautiful personality, finds real love in an unlikely situation (wheres my love in life?), makes own path and doesnt care what people say/think, ambitious, does what needs to be done even if its hard, comforting maternal presence but also dominant and assertive when needed, gets shit done
•Kiki (Kiki's Delivery Service) - relate to / want to be like - is an outsider but finds her place eventually, inexperienced but trying her best, works hard in all she does, makes something of herself (i hope someday thats me), makes the best out of a bad situation
•Stitch (Lilo & Stitch) - relate to - lost, searching for home and family, feel constantly different from everyone else, runs away from problems before finally solving/fixing them
•Baymax (Big Hero 6) - comfort character - was there for hiro and did whatever possible the whole movie to help him (learning about grieving, sacrificing, etc), and there was a time in my life that I really needed that presence and didn’t have it that way at the time, but now 14 years later I’m in a much better state mentally but baymax still makes me cry bc he reminds me of stuff™, (tbh i got to “meet baymax” at disney when i was 16 and lowkey was so excited and cried a bit, and my friend bought me a stuffed animal baymax that afternoon for my birthday and i sobbed and carried it around in my bag for the rest of the trip)
•Hiro (Big Hero 6) - relate to - ((this is gonna get sad sorry ://)) so like hiro i lost a sibling (however i was much younger than hiro and my sibling was younger than me) in a way that it was inflicted by someone else but was “unintentional/collateral” and i didnt really deal with it for a while until i actually got help and started doing things again to get back into normal life. i sob beginning to end during bh6 bc i feel for hiro and i know what hes going through and what its like and it sucks
•Alice (Alice in Wonderland) - relate to - gets lost in own head a lot, kinda a wonky imagination, doesnt follow own advice (”i give myself very good advice, but i very seldom follow it”), happy doing own thing until lost or lonely which then leads to fear and anxiety, doesnt know who to trust, trying to find something that isnt easily found
•Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Disney) - relate to - ((please look up oswalds story if you dont know who he is- in brief terms, he was a cartoon walt disney made and abandoned when he made his own studio (c. 1920s) and was replaced by mickey and was forgotten about until 2006)) cast aside, forgotten about, replaced, wants to belong
•Carson Phillips (Struck by Lightning) - want to be like / relate to - snarky and sarcastic bitch, does what he needs to in order to get shit done, a “penetrating personality” (literally a quote from the mf book), ambitious, goals bigger than anyone thinks they should be, makes morally ambiguous decisions to get what he wants
•Veronica Sawyer (Heathers) - relate to / want to be like - got some shitty friends who we dont really like but stick around with for convenience or something, has ambitions in life, stands up for what she believes in and for injustice and is generally a brave badass (i wish i was)
•Heather McNamara (Heathers) - relate to - lost, follows “friends”, tries to fit in with those around, sad™
•Elizabeth Swan (Pirates of the Caribbean) - want to be like - brave, stands up for what she believes in even if it might get her killed, tough (literally the pirate king), does what she wants cause she a bad bitch, tough, literally so pretty??, found true love in an unlikely place at an unlikely time, literally got married while fighting next to her true love vs the undead fish pirated while the ship is stuck in a whirlpool, badass af
•Kurt Hummel (Glee) - want to be like / comfort character - open about who he is, fashionable af, in the actual cutest couple on glee yall can fight me about it, learned to love himself then never stopped, a sassy queen always (i have so many of his mannerisms smh), went from cute twink to muscle boy and wow we love a glow-up, went from being bullied into submission and scared to being open and standing up for others even if he gets hurt, always made me smile, first real lgbt person i saw in the media and helped me embrace myself fully
•Klaus Hargreeves (The Umbrella Academy) - relate to - outcast, lotta mental health issues, music lover and bad dancer, headphones always on, bad experiences and trauma formed self, kinda lazy
•Vanya Hargreeves (The Umbrella Academy) - relate to - pushed aside, never a priority, taken advantage of, has own skill no one acknowledges, sad™
•Elphaba Thropp (Wicked) - relate to - cast out, different from everyone else, unique in own way, never the pretty one
----------------------------------------------------
and some honorable mentions of real people I connect with comfort and strive to be like in my day to day life (like ive taken on a lot of their mannerisms or sayings):
•Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) - literally the sweetest person ever, super talented in so many different ways, so positive and inspirational (esp about mental health)
•Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance, Umbrella Academy) - always accepting of people (esp lgbt!! gay rights!!), multi-dimensional, versatile talents (singer, song writer, artist, comic book writer)
•Mitch Grassi (Pentatonix/Superfruit) - so openly himself, genuine, verbal about mental health (esp anxiety and depression), phenomenal singer, so kind to everyone, unique, fashionable, sassy as hell, lgbt!!, shows dreams can come true
•Chris Colfer (Glee/Author) - super talented (singing, acting, writing), lgbt!!, snarky as hell, super sweet but also super funny, (tbh ive stanned him since like 2012 and hes the only celeb ive ever met and i will always stan that man)
•Hayley Kiyoko (Singer) - lesbian jesus, came out even though she was told it could ruin her career, so truly herself, open about lgbt issues and mental health, positive towards everyone, encourages everyone to open up and be unapologetically themselves
•Eugene Lee Yang (Try Guys) - authentically himself, isn’t afraid of what people thing, does his own thing even if its different and odd to some, lgbt!!, a shady bitch in the best way, has his own style and kills it always

                                                    DECEMBER                       2018
 PAGE RIB
***** This Tarantino movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood just seems to keep growing. Added to the cast are Al Pacino and Luke Perry. Damien Lewis will play Steve Mcqueen, Emile Hirsch will play Jay Sebring and Dakota Fanning will play Squeaky.
***** The Stones are gearing up for a U.S. tour in the spring ending in Chicago.
***** Peoria Players Theater is celebrating 100 years, one of only three theaters in continuous operation in the country.  Their first production was ‘The Maker of Dreams.’
***** Paul McCartney wrote a children’s book, Hey Grandude!
***** Wow!! We have now seen a Mars sunset!!
***** A CNN investigation found that Police departments around the country destroyed rape kits before the statute of limitations was up.
***** Patti Hansen has a book out: A Portrait
*****Ignore your rights and they will go away.
***** The Stan and Ollie movie looks awesome.
***** Head from the Monkees is 50 years old.
***** Goodfield, Illinois has finally repealed prohibition.
***** Deep Time from director Noah Hutton has been out a few years but is still worth a look. It is the true story of the indigenous people of North Dakota and the oil boom in the age of man.
***** Sajak and White have renewed until 2022. OY!
***** Robbie Robertson is finishing the mix on his latest album.
***** The people have spoken even though some states took a long time to get answers. Bernie Sanders and Tim Kaine have both been re- elected.** Ted Cruz won but just barely.** Mitt Romney won in the senate in Utah. The republicans kept the Senate but the Dems took the house. Journalists throw around the words, ’blue wave’ but it was all a bit too close for me.  Too much of this country still just does not get it. I will never understand how a person puts their own religious or financial needs above the rights of others. There is reason to celebrate the young people who got involved and that there was great voter turnout.  I still heard excuses though like, “I was too tired” and “they put in who they (?) want anyway.” My Mother was headed into surgery that day and still she voted. You Go Mom!!** Colorado gave us our first openly gay Governor. ** Two female Muslims and two female Native Americans have been elected to congress for the first time. Michigan will legalize recreational marijuana.
***** The Doobie Brothers are working on new music.
***** Jeff Sessions is out. Trump is attempting to keep Rod Rosenstein from overseeing the Mueller probe and put Matthew Whitaker in there.
***** #Blaze it forward
***** Scary Clown took away Jim Acosta’s press pass after a dust up at the WH. Sarah Sanders lied about the whole thing. Acosta and CNN sued. A judge says that the WH has the right to keep people out but once you let the press in, you can’t pick and choose. Acosta has his pass back.** Trump disgraced us in Paris with snarky comments about Macron and missed the ceremony at the American cemetery for the 100th anniversary of WWI because of the rain.** The administration is proposing there should not be protests in front of the WH.** The use of private e mails by Ivanka is being looked into by congress. Will she or Daddy ever be questioned for 11 hours?? Doubtful.** The Finlandians are the latest to mock our Pres. After his ridic comments about the President of Finland telling him about raking the forest (which that Pres does not recall), many are posting themselves raking or vacuuming.** A big part of Scary Clowns legacy will be overturning rules we had in place for good reason. It is likely the romaine lettuce E-coli outbreak could have been avoided if regulations had not been eased on testing water on farms.
*****Mueller has filed paperwork stating that Paul Manafort lied to the FBI and the special counsel despite signing a plea deal. This could mean that that it is unlikely he could testify since he would not seem credible.** James Comey got a subpoena on Thanksgiving.** Michael Cohen has also been accused of lies.
***** 7 NY hospitals have made settlements with rape survivors after illegally charging them $300 for rape kits.
***** It looks like 5 mil in unpaid labor will bring plenty of lawsuits from workers at the Trump hotel in Washington.
***** Major League Baseball has requested the return of a political contribution they made to Mississippi’s Cindy Hyde- Smith. Why are they giving their money to politicians anyway, especially without checking them out thoroughly?? This is a woman who had made it clear she was racist even before the comments about wanting to be in the front row for a public hanging. I suppose they give to campaigns like all other big biz, to pass the bills they want like the Save Americas pastime act that makes it legal to pay minor- league players dick. Oh and they were asked to donate by Mitch McConnell.  Wal Mart, Union Pacific, Google AT&T and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, just to name a few have asked for their money back as well. It is good to know what companies give to the right wing racist nut jobs. And She Won!!
***** The U.S. waived background checks for the staff at immigrant children holding facilities and there is still no set date for the kids to be released.
***** Hooray to the Macy’s Thanksgivings day Parade for putting on The Prom!!
***** Russia has ceased 3 Ukranian ships off Crimea.
***** After a rocky start, Murphy Brown is starting to find its mojo.
***** I hope we see more of The Cool Kids. I mean, Charlie Day, Jamie Farr, Clyde Kusatsu, Julia Duffy, Charles Shaughnessy plus the regular cast.. wow! I knew they could fill out the facility with top notch talent.
***** This year the Kennedy Center honors will go to Cher, Reba McEntire, Wayne Shorter and Phillip Glass.
***** I love the way that Seth Meyers represents the local channels with mugs on his desk. I saw WEEK 25 on there this month!!
***** Dick Van Dyke says he paid Walt Disney to play the banker in Mary Poppins.
***** Robert DeNiro and Grace Hightower are getting divorced.
***** The administration is like a shit show in a dumpster fire._ George Conway (husband of Kellyanne)
***** A man in a Baltimore audience of Fiddler on the Roof yelled out, “Heil Hitler, Heil Trump.”
***** Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp are engaged.
***** Robert Redford is selling his St. Helena residence for 7 mil.
***** Joan Baez is on her farewell tour.
***** The suicide death rate is higher than it has been inn 50 years.
***** Toy Story 4 will be out next summer with a new character, Forky voiced by Tony Hale!!!!
***** Days alert: Did Days actually age Abigail’s baby on the same episode? I mean, there was a little bundle with tiny little features, Chad walked outside to ring for help and when he came back there was a wide eyed baby sitting up and looked like a whole new baby.** So sad to see Paul go but at least he got a tearful sendoff. I kind of hope Will cheats on Sonny again. Is that wrong?? Oh wait.. it looks like Leo is gonna put a crimp in their plans. It also looks like all the secrets all over town are about to come out** I can’t wait for Jack to come back!
***** There is to be a Northern Exposure reboot.
***** Rock and Roll hall of fame noms this year are Def Leppard, Devo, Janet Jackson, John Prine, Kraftwerk, LLCool J, MC5, Radiohead, Rage against the Machine, Roxy Music, Stevie Nicks, The Cure, Todd Rundgren, Rufus and Chaka Khan and The Zombies.
***** Hate is never right and love is never wrong- Roman Kent
***** R.I.P. Francis Lai, the victims of thousand Oaks, Peggy McCay, victims of the California wild fires, William Goldman, Stan Lee , Bernardo Bertolucci, Ricky Jay, Stephen Hillenburg, Harry Leslie Smith, Hogan the Zebra, George Bolton , George H. W. Bush and Nicolas Roeg.

SANDERS AND SON! SON! I FEEL VINDICATED. DAD SANDERS FOR THE WIN! Ok, sorry for screaming, but this could at least give you the idea of the inhuman squeal I let out when I read it. My dog ran to me all worried and when I reassured him I was alright, he was *not convinced* and decided it was cuddle time! So picture this: big adorkable furball cuddling me while I read Sanders thinking /idiot/ at Alex and Michael freaking out in the back. Isn't this perfect. My dog and I stan dad!Sanders. Always <3
Dad!Sanders for the win indeed- best part of season 2, and he's only gotten better and better in season 3 and 4. Anyway, this story just hit 20k this morning, and in honor of such a sweet ask here's a peak at the end of chapter 1 and the beginning of chapter 2.
[make sure your dog is prepared] 💖 Previously here with links to the other parts
****
He flipped the sign on the door to ‘Sorry We’re Closed’ and scowled at Michael. “What the hell was that, kid?”
Michael used his telekinesis to flip it back to ‘We’re Open’ out of desperation to avoid the conversation. It was probably pointless, but he had to try. For a genius, he was a real dumbass. “I don’t know what you’re talking about-”
Walt glared and flipped it back, and then slapped his hand against the sign to keep it in place. “Do not make me get creative with that pollen. Or worse, I’ll call Miss Isobel here. Bet she’d be real interested in that whole scene. I got no qualms lettin’ her poke around my head and see for herself-”
“Okay, okay, I’ll tell you, but I’m not doing it without a drink, and we finished off the bourbon here after that dumbass militia tried to commission us to make them super-special badges.” That had been a real shitshow, and while Michael wasn’t a snitch, he did pick up the phone to report that attempt to Max and the new Sheriff. Their shop windows were spray-painted for a few nights in retaliation, but it was a small price to pay for having a bunch of entitled rednecks playing at being police. The police themselves were already bad enough.
“You’ll buy, but I’ll drive.”

The sun was just beginning to set as Walt drove them home from the Wild Pony. The story of Alex had taken only two shots of whiskey, laid out over the battered green felt of the pool table and a game of nine-ball. Michael had kept his voice low to discourage eavesdroppers as he told Sanders every ugly detail, still mindful of Alex’s wishes for secrecy.
He had spilled the story of the guitar and living in Alex’s shed as a senior in high school, brushing off Walt’s insistence he could have stayed more nights at the junkyard. Every night even. Then he had finally explained his hand, a story that he had only told once before. Max had tried over the years, and had actually gotten close to getting Michael to explain one night after Noah had trapped them both in his bunker, but Kyle and Liz had rescued them before the truth had come out.
Sanders had gripped his own pool cue tightly, as he watched Michael balance his stick with his ruined grip and touch of telekinesis, all thanks to Jesse Manes, before making a successful shot at the solid 3 ball. For a moment, Michael had thought the man would break his own cue, but he had just cussed creatively before pounding a shot of Jim Beam down and gesturing for Michael to continue. And Michael had.
The summer of loss, of fights, of learning that university wasn’t going to be in the cards for him if he had any hope of keeping what had happened to Isobel from happening again.
“We’re aliens, Walt, I thought maybe my species murdered when we got triggered out of some sort of biological defense system, like there are ants who explode with poison when threatened, or like this toad spits blood out of its eyes. I had no one to ask! I just felt like if I went away to school, she’d get triggered again- and people would die.”
“What are you, a zoologist?”
Michael had rolled his eyes before Sanders had finished with a scathing observation, “That’s clearly horseshit because wouldn’t you have killed that sonuvabitch Manes a whole lot sooner if it were true?”
Hindsight about Noah was of course 20-20, but that hadn’t stopped the years of fear for Michael. The bitterness had rich, fertile ground to seed itself in after a life of being passed from one foster home to another and in between the pain in his hand and the difficulty of making ends meet after the financial crash of 2008, he acknowledged that he had done too much drinking and fighting back then. Enough to worry a boy from a house where ‘things sucked’ and had spoken fondly of homelessness in return. With shame in his eyes, Michael had explained how he had engineered his arrest the day Alex was due to leave for Basic Training. One last push to ensure Alex never looked back. He hadn’t felt worthy of love, of any soft touch, and he hadn’t trusted that it would last. He still had a hard time trusting it currently.
Walt had made a humming noise, and sank his target neatly, despite the eye patch. His next shot would have won, ending the game and maybe the story. Without even trying, he had scratched the cue ball and had turned over the table to Michael with ease. “So you wanted to make sure he left, but you also didn’t want him to leave? Yeah, that sounds like stupid teenager logic.”
