Skyrim finally has the feature every modern game needs
Tumblr media
Skyrim merits an excellent photo mode. It's still a very atmospheric RPG game and unquestionably Bethesda's most well-liked offering to date, even more than a decade later. A recent Skyrim mod allows you the ability to play about with a powerful photo mode in Skyrim, which is something I definitely want to see when The Elder Scrolls 6 is released, whenever that may be. Everyone loves messing around in a good photo mode even if they aren’t a wizard with a camera, and now a Skyrim mod simply titled “photo mode” from powerofthree adds the creative tool to Bethesda’s decade-old game at last. So while the Oblivion rebuilt in Skyrim mod is coming before ES6, you’ll need something to keep you entertained. All the mainstays of a good photo mode are there, like filters, camera control, removing the player, changing the time, and more. Skyrim is still a game filled with delightful landscapes and dynamic weather, so a photo mode is a brilliant addition to the world. Skyrim finally has the feature every modern game needs Skyrim photo mode mod features The Skyrim mod comes with a few options, so we’ve broken them down for you below. Camera - Image composition grid overlays - Adjust field of view - Change view roll (tilt camera) - Configure vanilla DOF strength, distance and range - Toggle ENB DOF on/off Time - Freeze, speed up or slow down time - Control time of day and timescale - Select and override current weather Player - Show/hide the player - Set facial expressions, phonemes and other modifiers - Select and play any idle/animation - Select and play any effect shader or visual effect (set yourself on fire! or any custom VFX) - Change player rotation and position Filters - Adjust brightness, saturation and contrast, and apply a tint to your image - Select and play any image space modifier Overlays - Apply any custom overlay of your choice such as frames or logos It’s a great weekend for Skyrim mods, as we’ve just got a complete overhaul of dogs that even lets you pet them, and now this photo mode. So you can now install both and take some delightful pictures of your pooches all around Tamriel. There are a few more Skyrim mods you’ll need to install to get everything working, but you can find all the extra details on the Skyrim Photo Mode mod page. While waiting for the Elder Scrolls 6, Skyrim mods alone might not be enough, and if that’s the case for you we’ve put together a collection of the best games like Skyrim, alongside the essential fantasy games on PC too. The Little-Known Secrets to Fallout 76
Unlike Bethesda's single-player titles, they cannot load earlier saves to undo the potential harm that is inflicted when the game misfires. When the player is offline then players profile will be eliminated. The game is made in such a manner that the player history to be stored for the next moment. Several of the bonuses you gain from these types of Stats are merely pleasant to have on any character. Players have tried various techniques to deal with problem. Fans can play the game by means of a beta that has been revealed to begin in October, only one month prior to launch. Here's What I Know About Fallout 76 At incremental levels, you also receive a booster pack which comprises a random range of cards. The range of items will be different dependent on the creature's difficulty and level, as stated by the patch notes. To be able to accomplish this, the player should find launch codes of missiles. You know there's going to be some excellent loot back there, which usually means you're want to work out a means to open them. If you get the digital version of Fallout 76, you will be able avoid damage to a disc and cut back on the clutter all around your entertainment center. Now all you have to be concerned about is finding sweet power armor and avoiding different players. The Fallout 76 Chronicles Those few players which weren't playing the most significant and most prosperous game on earth still had plenty of unique things to do. When you log into a terminal, you will be presented with a list of words that all share the exact same character length and a number of characters in some specific places. The game will center on survival, but nevertheless, it won't be as hardcore as other survival games. Now their role is going to be taken over by robots, and the environment. The game does shine regarding enemy variety. Players have the ability to use nuclear weapons to temporarily alter the regions of game world. The Fallout 76 Chronicles While the procedure for unlocking perk cards is different, the best way to use them is also quite different. The business states it's going to notify any customers whose messages and photos might have been inadvertently shared. Additionally, you can even use the game's new photo mode during the creation process to better see the way your character looks, along with snap some shots you may share on social networking. The band is currently prepared to release the cover on digital music. While it'll be good to have several extra unique circumstances, there's sufficient right here for all the Pip Boys and Girls to acquire pleasure from post-apocalyptic gaming classes round their tabletops. Shame, since it's one of my favourite portions of the game. You do make various decisions once your characters are real'. Particularly, individuals believe that Bethesda has taken the incorrect approach of creating the online Fallout experience. People took the opportunity to play out each of the different outcomes. Just take all 3 ranks in the event you can. To determine the importance of that number and everything else you should know about Fallout 76, continue reading. Meanwhile, however, you can take a look at the patch notes below. Fallout 76 and Fallout 76 - The Perfect Combination It's possible to read our review for it. Most would agree that, out of each one of the important press conferences at the onset of the week, Bethesda's was the very best. Users will need to claim the offer prior to the end of the month. Choosing Good Fallout 76 The only issue with bounties is the fact that it's relatively rare to find anyone prepared to turn into an outlaw in the very first location. Maybe the individual feels violated. It was not even an issue of waiting to see whether it was any good. With Fallout 76, you're leaving out a huge chunk of your dedicated players since they adore the solo adventure the story offers. The game may be a MMO rather than the single-player gameplay the remainder of the series has showcased. No matter in which you stand with Fallout 76, you've got to admit that it appears like Bethesda is attempting to do the perfect thing with the game. With Fallout 76however, the thought of mods isn't as well received for numerous explanations. Tackling Fallout 76 solo differs. Yes, Into the Fire quest is just one of The Responders faction quests you will see in Fallout 76. Fallout 76 players that are considering finding out how to get access to the secret developer room may want to rethink their plans. In reality, a number of the recent games which have been best sellers in the international market also have been released for PC players. A big reason behind this change would appear to be the multiplayer focus. Some players wouldn't such as these changes clearly, and that's the reason why it's important that Bethesda gives players the option to select which gameplay experience they prefer. Bethesda has said again and again that they were planning to provide private servers post-launch. While it is hoping to identify and fix any problems with the Fallout 76 beta, even a beta may not account for all of the things that a huge number of players would get up to on one server at launch.

Direct Hit?
Nintendo Direct 9/13/17 Thoughts & Notes
The latest Nintendo Direct has come and gone, and it delivered pretty much what I expected, if not slightly more. Given the timing of the presentation, this was Nintendo's best opportunity to push its fall and holiday lineup, and it did just that with new information on Super Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and a smattering of others. Anyone expecting big reveals set themselves up for disappointment; this was about selling the games hitting in the remainder of 2017 first and foremost. That's not to say there weren't surprises; not only were new first-party games announced, but so were third-party titles, new hardware variations, and even an unexpected blast from Nintendo's past. Here are the top 15 notable moments as far as I was concerned.
Tumblr media
1. Super Mario Odyssey The more I see of this game, the better it looks. Nintendo has obviously been holding back information on this game since E3, showing only a handful of environments, enemies, and abilities, but the curtains opened a whole lot more during this Nintendo Direct. Sure, we expected Mario standbys like an ice world, a water world, and a jungle world, but it's nice to see them with our own eyes. As with previous looks at this game, the new footage displayed a world bursting with imagination and unparalleled creativity: running on water, controlling an adorable flying dinosaur, racing against Koopas, and engaging in a 2D Donkey Kong homage. The classic outfits tug at my Nintendo nostalgia, and the photo mode opens up a lot of fun creative possibilities. The best part is I think we've still only scratched the surface of this game. Well, the best part for some might be topless Mario's nipples, but I guess that's a personal preference. The Switch bundle that includes red Joy-Cons and a Mario carrying case is pretty snazzy too.
Tumblr media
2. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 The new footage of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 really emphasized just how vast and beautiful the world is. The living, breathing environments, built on the backs of massive creatures, look absolutely stunning and, like in previous Xenoblade games, simply beg to be explored. The Nintendo Direct presentation - evidently narrated by a bored, genteel British grandfather - was absolutely ridiculous and probably didn't garner many new fans, but it didn't negate my enthusiasm for this anime-influenced RPG. The special edition - including a music CD and a 220-page artbook - is somewhat tempting too, but maybe not for $100.
Tumblr media
3. Project Octopath Traveler Even though it's not set for release until next year, Nintendo put a heavy emphasis on the ludicrously named Project Octopath Traveler for Switch. I know it's supposed to be a temporary name, but hopefully it finds a better one sooner rather than later. More exciting than the presentation was the release of the playable demo, which lets you sample the game as two of the eight protagonists, Olberic the warrior and Primrose the dancer, each with unique special skills. The inclusion of eight protagonists gives the game a Saga Frontier feel, while the retro graphics feel like a throwback to 16-bit Final Fantasy games. This one has a lot of promise.
Tumblr media
4. Nintendo Arcade Archives This came out of nowhere. Hamster, the company responsible for publishing a ridiculous number of Neo•Geo games on Switch, will now be delivering Nintendo's classic arcade lineup in pixel-perfect form to a console for the first time ever. Nintendo should have tried something like this with arcade Virtual Console on Wii, but it didn't; now, at long last, the original versions of these seemingly lost arcade games will finally be playable once again. While the differences between the arcade and NES versions of these games aren't huge, they're a captivating piece of Nintendo history, and hardcore fans will love picking up on the subtle differences in games like Mario Bros, Vs Balloon Fight, Vs. Ice Climber, Vs. Pinball, and Vs. Clu Clu Land. For me, it's all about Vs. Super Mario Bros and Punch-Out!!, but if the price is comparable to past Arcade Archive offerings ($8 or so), I'll probably buy the whole lot.
Tumblr media
5. Doom & Wolfenstein II I'm not a big FPS fan, so these aren't games I'll likely buy personally, but I love the fact that the Switch is diversifying its lineup and seeing more support from Bethesda in the form of these popular shooters. Hopefully other publishers will do the same.
Tumblr media
6. Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon I loved Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, and I want to say the same about Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but the latest footage shown of these games didn't really inspire. Whereas Sun and Moon were exciting and refreshing, it looks like Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are going to retreat an awful lot of the same territory. The Pikachu Park and new beach areas look nifty, as do the new Ultra Beasts, but I was hoping for a lot more.
Tumblr media
7. New Nintendo 2DS XL Hardware On the other hand, the Poké Ball Edition New Nintendo 2DS XL (coming Nov. 3) looks amazing. I have to believe this will be one of Nintendo's most in-demand hardware variations yet. And the new white-and-orange New 2DS XL (coming Oct. 6) looks perfect for fall as well.
Tumblr media
8. Kirby: Star Allies It's bright, it's colorful, and it's full of multiplayer action and crazy copy abilities - it's definitely a new Kirby game. We still don't know much about this previously untitled Kirby game that was revealed back at E3, but it's sure to be a blast when it hits in spring 2018.
Tumblr media
9. Mario Party: The Top 100 With a November 10 release date - less than two months away - this one came out of nowhere as a surprise announcement. But is Mario Party out of ideas? This 3DS release curates the best 100 minigames from past Mario Party titles and compiles them into one game. Mario Party games have a reputation for being very similar, but in this case it literally reuses the ideas from the past. Hopefully it has compelling boards to tie it all together.
Tumblr media
10. Kirby: Battle Royale Taking a break from the usual Kirby formula, this is a four-player Kirby fighting game for 3DS. There's a single-player mode, of course, and several types of competitive play, but it's kind of a bummer that there's no stereoscopic 3D.
Tumblr media
11. Dragon Quest Builders Essentially combining elements of Dragon Quest with Minecraft, this one was released on other platforms some time ago, but I'm glad to see that it's coming to Switch in North America.
Tumblr media
12. Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition It's hard to believe there wasn't a 3DS version of Minecraft until now. This game probably would have had more impact if it were released a year or two ago, but better late than never, I guess! The digital version is already available for download, and a physical version will be coming down the road.
Tumblr media
13. Snipperclips Plus The original Snipperclips was a tad too frustrating for my tastes - perhaps I needed better co-op partners - but it's nice to see it returning with an expansion, and with a physical release. You can grab the full package at retail for $30, or if you already own the original digitally, you can add on 30 new stages and other features for just $10.
Tumblr media
14. The Alliance Alive Other than the fact that it's a traditional fantasy RPG featuring nine protagonists, and that the story focuses on humanity rising up against demon conquerors, little has been said about this one. But Atlus rarely steers us wrong with role-playing releases, and one of the writers of the early Suikoden games is involved, so I'm definitely interested.
Tumblr media
15. Amiibo Release Dates If there’s one thing I love, it’s amiibo. And I can't wait for the latest releases, all of which now have release dates. Koopa and Gooma hit Oct. 6 (the same day as Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions); Chrom and Tiki hit Oct. 20 (the same day as Fire Emblem Warriors); and the Champions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Mipha, Revali, Daruk, and Urbosa) hit on Nov. 10. Who knows? Maybe the second batch of BOTW DLC will hit around that time too. Of course, the Mario, Peach, and Bowser amiibo hit alongside Super Mario Odyssey on Oct. 27.

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus Review
This review will have all the spoilers. You’ve been warned.
It was either late 2013 or early 2014. Good times. I was messing around on Youtube one day looking at videos of the latest Batman game. Then in the recommended videos I saw something that both confused and intrigued me. The thumbnail was the iconic image of Niel Armstrong saluting the American flag he just planted on the moon. Except there were a couple differences. Twisted, terrifying differences. The American flag was replaced with the banner of Nazi Germany. And Niel was Seig Heil’ing to it. I’m pretty sure I let out an audible "what the fuck?" apon seeing this. This was the E3 trailer for Wolfenstein: The New Order. For those who don’t know, Wolfenstein is one of the oldest franchises in gaming, and put FPS games on the map. A goofy game about shooting Nazis in WWII that gave 90s gamers the chance to shoot the hell out of Mecha-Hitler. Think of it as a prototype to the more infamous Doom series that would launch shorty after. The New Order was a modern-day reboot with some ambitious questions. The biggest one being "what if they won instead?" The New Order takes you to an alternate 1960 where the Nazis beat the allied forces to the nuke (among other advanced tech) and thus took over the world. It was grim. It was campy. It was subtle. It was loud. It was dumb. And it was also much smarter and more engaging than anyone would’ve thought. So it went on to be a smash hit in 2014, and one of my favorite games ever. A few months ago to the day this is being posted, Bethesda stopped by E3 and showed the world it was sequel time, showing off Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus (Actually like the 3rd or 5th in the series) to the world. The next day I preordered the hell out of it. Was it worth it? Well after 10 days of tearing through it, lemme tell you.
So I’ll start off with things I didn’t like, get the negativity out of the way. It’s not a big list but I think what on it is valid. In The New Order, which I shall now abbreviate as TNO, in nearly all sections you could either go in fast and loud, putting holes in everything that moves with dual automatic shotguns and a big laser cannon. Or you could be a bit more stealthy about things, sneaking through vents and corridors putting knives in throats and taking care of problematic enemies from afar with a suppressed pistol (which might I mention was one of the things I loved about the TNO; keeping the pistol relevant and not just a forgettable starter weapon like most shooters). It was all about personal play style, but both options were viable. In The New Colossus, which I shall now abbreviate as TNC, going in loud was the way I always went because it seemed more viable. And I always went stealth in TNO. I probably just need to learn the areas, but there was some problems I ran into. Like this game being dark. Not story wise (even though it is) but literally. I remember alot of areas meant to be stealth-able lacking in the lighting department, and I set my brightness at the recommended settings, too. Anytime I’d get caught it’d be from and enemy that I couldn’t see. And that leads to another problem. In TNO, enemies stuck out in the maps. Even if they were dully-colored humaniods coming in plentiful shades of gray you’d still spot them from across the area. It was probably due to both TNO being brighter and the enemies having a wide design variety. Not so much in the TNC. There’s less design variety here and they all seem to just blend into the background alot. Even the brightly-colored HAZMAT and Venus space troopers don’t pop in anything less than Glamour Magazine photo booth. On top of that those two previously mentioned troopers, while being obvious separate models apon inspection, honestly just look like classic Mortal Kombat-esque palette swaps. Again, TNO had alot of variety in their designs. Which is why it was a shame there was no proper model viewer in TNO, and why it’s straight-up bullshit their isn’t one in TNC. One of my favorite bits of last year’s DOOM (another Id games classic updated for the modern world) was a model viewer that let you get an up-close look at the game’s monsters and weapons. The Batman: Arkham games have had it for years. Hell, I remember having them back in 2005 with Jak III. Why can’t Wolfenstein, with their toybox of greatly-designed characters, weapons and assets have it? Or a photo mode, too? I’m not insane about graphics in games, but I still appreciate them with how incredible they are today, and TNC is no exception. It’s a beautiful game. Let me appreciate it to the fullest extent possible. Honestly these days model viewers and photo modes are something all games should have with how far graphics have gone. If only bosses got the same advancement. TNO had a few that aren’t Psycho Mantis or Big Baby Bowser levels, but they were fun nonetheless. DOOM’s bosses were one of the highlights for me. TNC has none of those. Here and then there’s an enemy that can act as a sort-of miniboss, but their’s nothing big and climactic like TNO’s showdown with the towering London Monitor, or the final showdown with the main antagonist, General Deathshead. The "final boss" of TNC is more of a gauntlet than anything. 3 pairs of Supersoldiers, a higher-powered but still common enemy assisted by a shitload of standard infantry, finished off by 2 "Zerstörers", which are basically super versions of the Supersoldiers (I call them "Super-duper Soliders"). The main antagonist of the game, General Engel, goes down with one melee attack, only vainly defending herself with a pistol. An outdated pistol by both the game’s and IRL standards. In a game where mechs, actual Avengers Helicarriers and boimechanically-enhanced mutants are possible, you’d expect so much more. Especially with Hitler himself making an appearance. I was really looking forward to a modern-day Mecha-Hitler. Not sure if I’d want bosses to worry about though since something as simple as getting your weapons out can be a pain. In TNO you could dual wield nearly every weapon in the game, but you could only dual wield two of the same gun. In TNC dual wield returns, for every weapon you can carry, and you can interchange between them. And while it has it’s uses for sure, it feels kinda clunky, not to mention slow. TNC takes it’s sweet time letting you change your weapons which can be fatal, especially since this game carries over a problem TNO had in that you’re not exactly warned when your current ammo’s about to run dry and you’re gonna get lit up while changing a clip.
Now to the good, which I assure you outweighs the bad. Lemme start by saying that the gunplay feels as fantastic as before. Every gun has kick and you feel it whenever you see a Nazi get turned to mush by your triple-barreled automatic rotary shotgun. Yes, that’s a thing in this game. As is a pistol-sized grenade launcher. And sticky-bomb launcher. And an OP-as hell laser cannon that atomizes people and metal covers/doors alike. And all of these can be powered-up through upgrades. The Shotgun can be upgraded to have ricochet rounds to deal even more damage. The pistol can have a suppressor so it stays useful like it did in TNO. The Assault Rifle can have both a scope and armor piercing rounds making it able to down mechanical enemies in one shot. And the laser cannon. Oh god the Laser cannon. Called the LaserkraftWerk in the game, it’s by far the best weapon you’ll get, even before upgrades. One shot will destroy even more armored infantry, but when you upgrade it so the blast can be charged, ooooooohhh. One charged blast will down Super soldiers with ease, and even on higher difficulties the powerful Zerstörer units I mentioned earlier will fall with a few good shots. Combo this with an extended battery doubling your already-decent ammo pool, And you’re unstoppable. I guess that leads to another issue. While every gun has their uses and you’ll likely use every one at one point, like DOOM before it you’ll probably cruise along primary’ing 2 guns. For me it was the Shotgun and Laserkraftwerk. But even then they weren’t the weapons I used the most. It was the heavy weapons. In TNO there was a Heavy MG you’d find here and there. It was powerful, sure, but could only be picked up and not carried in your inventory, and slowed you down considerably. You couldn’t sprint and crouching reduced you to a snail’s pace, and interacting with anything would make you drop it. In TNC there’s 4 types of heavy weapons and they’re awesome. They still slow you down but nowhere near the TNO’s. You CAN interact with stuff and you can even sprint with them. Doesn’t sound like much but believe me, that makes a world of difference. Another thing that gives you an edge in combat is the contraptions. There’s 3 in total; The Ram Shackles, which allow you to bash through both weak walls and enemies alike, the Constrictor Harness, which allows you to sneak around in tight spaces, and the Battle Walker, my favorite, which is just some goddamn stilts. They let you get to higher places so its not anywhere as useless as it sounds, but also has perks, like the other contraptions. You’ll be able to tank explosions without falling over, make enemies freeze n terror at the sight of you, and even keep your overcharged health from going down, my favorite. Speaking of health, one thing that makes the newer Wolfenstein and Doom games is the lack of regenerating health. You have to find health and armor in the levels, and this returns in TNC. One addition though is instead of having to pick up stuff manually, walking over health and armor pieces will make you pick it up automatically, though manually picking them up like before is still an option. It admitting needs refinement but it works well enough. It’s nice after a firefight were I took a beating, I remember where a health pack or some armor was, I run to that location, and I already have some extra heath/armor on me when I get there from the bits that was lying around. While I did say that their isn’t much variety in the enemie’s designs, the designs that are there are good, and carry over that retrofuturistic asthetic I loved so much about TNO. My favorites are either the Ubersoldat, with is basically a Nazi T-800, or the previously-mentioned Zerstörer. Enemy behavior is much better in this game too. In TNO during a stealth section if an enemy ran into a dead body, they’d just move along like something happened. In TNC, enemies are much more sharp. Anything louder and light sniffle they’re hear and investigate, and if they find a dead body they go into high alert and start hunting for you. The levels are incredible too, truly feeling and looking like a 1960s America under Nazi control. The level layouts in this game are kinda funny. In TNO a new level was an entirely new location. In TNC, multiple levels are across one location. This is due to the levels being so much more vast than TNO if anything. My favorite level is either the Nazi base on Venus (the actual planet), or Manhattan, which was directly hit by a Nazi nuke in WWII and is now a desolate, irradiated wasteland. You could feel how thick and cancerous the air is, and the devastated buildings have their upper skeletons eerily bent and curled from the blast. Fallout fans will have a bit of deja vu going through it. All these locales help guide the story along, which like TNO before it is a standout part of the game. TNC takes place right after TNO more or less, after the main character, BJ Blazcowiz, is mortally injured in his big battle with General Deathshead. You’re saved by your resistance buddies before they nuke the place, but you’re still messed up. After 5 months in a coma, the game finally starts. With you shooting Nazis on a U-boat you captured previously in a wheelchair. For half the game the only reason you’re able fight again is thanks to a power suit wired to BJ’s brain. Even while you’re fighting BJ’s injuries are taking their toll. By his own estimate, he has weeks. Which is tragic to think about since in TNO, he met Anya Oliwa, a nurse who took care of him during a prior comatose, and eventual lover. By the time TNC rolls around, she’s heavily pregnant with BJ’s twins. Not being their for his kids is something BJ laments a few times, and you feel for him. Especially when you learn about his awful childhood at the beginning of the game. He deserves a good family, and it sucks he’ll never get that. And for a bit it really seemed like that he wouldn’t since midway through the game, BJ’s betrayed by his abusive, racist, Nazi-loving father who make his childhood such a shitshow, and is captured by Nazi forces. After a few weeks of parading "Terror Billy" The most horrible terrorist the world has ever seen according to the Nazi propaganda machine, BJ is executed in front of the Nazified Lincoln memorial to an audience of millions. Beheaded, it really seems like the game took a grim turn. Luckily due to the quick work of his aforementioned buddies in the resistance and some advanced tech, BJ is saved, if head slapped onto a new super soldier body. This brings up something that some reviewers had an issue with. TNC goes through a tone shift in story midway through the game. It starts out very grim and foreboding. Your base was attacked, the leader of the resistance is murdered right in front of you, America seems like it’s perfectly fine living under the Nazi’s boot, BJ is crippled and basically expecting death, and his unborn kids seem like they won’t have a dad. Even in gameplay things feel grim at first. Even with the power suit giving double armor you can’t escaped the halved health. You really feel like you’re playing a crippled character. BJ himself puts it out there pretty good. "I take it off, I’m afraid I’ll fall apart and all the pieces won’t fit back together again." Then he loses that body and gains one that can actually move on it’s own power and then some. BJ is basically reborn. stronger than ever. It makes sense that the game would kick up to a more upbeat tone. You’re a new man, more powerful than ever before. This can be done. You can save the world. This upbeat attitude peaks at the birthday party scene. Just before the final assault, it turns out it’s BJs birthday, so what do you and your resistance buddies do? Party like theirs no tomorrow, because for all they know there might not be. If their’s one thing I like in a story it’s reminding me that the character I’m playing and the characters around them are people, and not by just showing me their trauma and flaws. Every character in Wolfenstein already has those in spades. I’m more for seeing them having fun. Being happy. Enjoying eachother’s company. Take me out of the misery for once and remind me that their’s something good in the world. Not to say seeing smiles on their faces is what made them good characters. Every major character is pretty good in this game. Grace Walker, The new resistance leader and black revolutionary front member is pretty much a female Samuel L. Jackson. General Engel, The game’s antagonist, is the perfect villain in that you want nothing more but to see her get what’s coming to her. Super Spesh, Grace’s husband and crackpot alien conspiracy theorist, gives some good comic relief for the time he’s around. And Anya. Fucking Anya. Loyal, smart, and considering the crazy shit she does while carrying twins in her, may be more badass than BJ himself. And even with the grim beginnings don’t think this game takes itself too seriously. In one level, right after BJ monologues to himself about his imminent mortality, he (and us) get a first glimpse at the Nazi’s rocket-powered train system. Something he immediately responds to with basically "what the fuck?". After nuking the Nazi high command in fucking Roswell, BJ escapes on what’s pretty much the monocycle from Men In Black. Before BJ’s head is slapped onto his new body, it’s dropped in a jar like Futurama. That Venus level I mentioned earlier? You get there on a Nazi flying saucer. And again, stilts. One of your upgrades is big, stompy stilts.
Overall out of all the recent iD software games to hit the scene lately, I’d say DOOM is my favorite. But I’ll give it to The New Colossus. With a few bumps here and their it’s just as fun to play as it’s predecessor, and improves in most areas. Overall, yes, it’s a step up from The New Order, and if you want a fun, absurd shooter with a good story to tell, look no further,

The Debate Over Fallout 76
The 30-Second Trick for Fallout 76 For a fully-priced title from a substantial studio, however, the deficiency of quality is really unforgivable. High Tech car racing tracks bring plenty of revenue to a community. There's a terminal to select what type of ammo you want. It's essential to note this is not actually a glitch or bug, but instead an exploit. Owing to that, here is what you have to know before diving in to a server with 24 other survivors! Rounding out the latest update is a couple of balance tweaks, in addition to a very long collection of bug fixes. Blowing things up has never been simpler. It's simple to miss stuff similar to this, though. The 2nd worst thing is to waste time gathering the erroneous supplies in an effort to receive prepared. A Secret Weapon for Fallout 76 Speaking of fighting, prepare for that to used in conjunction with an unholy blend of fascination and abhorrence once it regards the new Fallout 76 monsters. Fallout has an aesthetic meant to be digested over a long length of time, which may not do the job for new players searching for a strong first impression. Some games can only be obtained on specific platforms, but there's a bit of something for everybody here. How to Get Started with Fallout 76? Or you may set up a shop. You ought to choose an EB Games store at which you'll pickup your purchase. Players will need to kill the enemies guarding these missiles in order to acquire a distinctive code. Things You Won't Like About Fallout 76 and Things You Will Though, predictably, not everybody is happy. Someone put plenty of work into it to make it seem nice and neat. Love in the office can be extremely tough for all concerned. Where to Find Fallout 76 The seven-minute video goes through different items within the room, and a few of the suits you'll be able to view. You have the base game alongside many different in-game bonus items. Eurogamer reports several regions of the room continue to be accessible, but players are not able to interact with the items within them. What You Need to Know About Fallout 76 While the procedure for unlocking perk cards is different, the best way to use them is also quite different. If you have the time then please visit the website to see the real statistics. Additionally, you might also use the game's new photo mode during the creation process to better see the way your character looks, along with snap some shots you'll be able to share on social networking. Fallout 76 Explained At any rate, since you can likely guess, a good bit of controversy has erupted over the topic. If you save a number of each food group, odds are it will all go bad before getting the opportunity to eat it. Obviously it is not feasible to experience each and every change, but the most significant changes come in the shape of performance and stability, where Bethesda notes that various client and server-side changes are made to enhance the total stability of the game and boost the functioning of the game across quite a few end-user systems. What Does Fallout 76 Mean? Seasoned Fallout players ought to be aware there's no workshop stash. In Fallout 76, all the human characters are different players. To figure out the importance of that number and everything else you should know about Fallout 76, keep reading. Bethesda has announced the most recent game in the Fallout series and fans are left with plenty of questions. Order of Mysteries is among the factions you are able to join in Fallout 76. If you would like to try out this new title then you are going to have to pre-order Fallout 76. Fallout 76 is only a tremendous mess and a disappointment generally, and I have zero idea precisely what the group of Bethesda thought when they made this awful game. Bethesda, meanwhile, has grown into one of a number of key publishers to have a strong interest in the Nintendo Switch. It has since confirmed that they are not planning on changing about said bag. There were still several things that Bethesda had promised that it wasn't likely to deliver. Essentially, players may choose whether they wish to take part in Area Chat or not. Currently, there's no way to register for the beta on Bethesda's website or societal media accounts. The Demise of Fallout 76 You are going to want to make certain that the individuals who do the hiring for you are implementing a system which will lead to employees who last. Mainiero suggests that you could think about writing a contingency plan with your partner about the way the relationship will be managed by each of you and how it'll be resolved if it ends. Employed as a team has an impact on how you get around too. For quite a few, the endgame is the actual game. Fallout is a string of post-apocalyptic role-playing video games. You will be able to play the entire core Fallout 4 game in VR. You're just going to get to purchase the game to find out how cool it is for yourself. It plays at a comfortable pace just like a single-player game, except now you can enjoy it with friends if you want. Imagine, you've been playing a game for hours and just as you are just about to finish a level once the game freezes up. There were a run of game-breaking bugs, in addition to entire parts of the game that were completely unplayable. Lots of the bugs weren't quite game breaking. Make certain you update often since the majority of the time a patch not only makes your gaming experience more enjoyable, additionally, it contains some new characteristics that boost the game itself. The 5-Minute Rule for Fallout 76 When you're in the exact same level band, think about moving to the next hunting ground a military base named Huntersville. Upon leaving Vault 76, you're going to be granted your own CAMP. There'll be nuclear missile websites on the map `which you can do anything you want with'. The Nuiances of Fallout 76 Any contribution that could reduce costs has the capacity of raising profits, and raising the rise and survival of a company. You may get your own nukes! Ensure it is illegal, and make a black market in an instant. You and friends and family can construct a survival settlement with each other, help different players, or even get into some type of conflict with different players you run into. Indeed, the dearth of NPCs to speak to means you do not have quests where you are able to actually make decisions and gain or get rid of karma points. For somebody who's just attempting to play the game the way it's supposed to be played, it is often quite demoralizing to encounter players who obtained powerful items from these types of exploits.

Details of Fallout 76
Lastly, you've got to make a decision as to what size of RC car you want. Then you will be able to hop in the vehicle and go down the track free of pacer car before you. High Tech car racing tracks bring a great deal of revenue to a community. Fallout 76 - What Is It? If you keep in that world, you can set your CAMP back down free of charge. You first must locate several elements of a launch code, which could signify working with different individuals. Past the CAMP improvements, the new update permits you to respec your SPECIAL once you get to level 51. If you play through the very first few questions that you will have the ability to acquire the fundamentals of the game down pat. The development team has opted to release patches first on the PC platform as it is a lot simpler to launch new patches on their very own platform. You have to pre-order to take part in the beta, however, you can pre-order and earn access while it's underway. You may also block players that are undeterred by the bounty system and just need to keep shooting you. The skill to recognize any ripe market is the main skill worth developing. Now all you have to be concerned about is finding sweet power armor and avoiding different players. The Fallout 76 standard edition is the most common and stocked by means of a bulk of video game retailers. A week later, everybody who holds a PlayStation 4 or PC pre-order is going to be permitted to learn more about the beta too. In the instance of Bethesda Game Studios, it's beginning to feel as if you're purchasing the Vault Boy. In spite of other on-line games, you are never going to observe any game servers while playing Fallout 76. Our present plan for the B.E.T.A. is it is going to be the complete game and all of your progress is saved for launch. Although the game is about to land on 14 November, the beta edition of Fallout 76 will be prepared to play in October. At any rate, since you can likely guess, a reasonable bit of controversy has erupted over the situation. Any contribution that may reduce costs has the capacity of raising profits, and raising the rise and survival of a company. The issue is that it makes an excellent deal of uncertainty in foreign traders and investors, and leads to the dollar to have a great deal of volatility. As you really can't utilize Doom 2 again. In the wasteland of Fallout 76, making your own food is essential to your survival. On the flip side, there are lots of substitutes for Fallout 4. Fallout 76 - What Is It? It will be totally free. Therefore, you know, simply don't cheat! Players might have to devote a varying amount of points on cards, dependent on initial price. Understanding Fallout 76 The majority of the recipes are able to help you cook up a number of the mutant animals of the wasteland you'll discover recipes to create some vital medicine and boosts like RadAway and Psycho. The player must keep in mind, however, that such opportunity will draw in enemies hungry for booty. At the same time that you can help build the planet, you might also destroy it. If You Read Nothing Else Today, Read This Report on Fallout 76 The issue is, Bethesda appears to be attempting to please all masters. Stress is the trash of contemporary life. In any case, Bethesda is the sort of company that would take nuclear disarmament into consideration when building this game. It's quite simple to implement too. They are never allowed to check the goal tender. Be among the very first to emerge! There are still more options which you'll be able to take though so that you don't need to be stuck on spending a good deal on solutions you wouldn't be needing everyday. There are scores and scores of Perks cards that you are able to unlock, so naturally, SPECIAL-RACKS is going to be lure for a while (you will receive a rating in a SPECIAL every single time you get up). Unlocking items to build is also quite slow. Actually there's no finish line to start with. The main reason for this isn't entirely apparent. The game might wind up being bad, but maybe the notion of them existing isn't a terrible thing in any respect. Additionally, you might also make the most of the game's new photo mode during creation to better see what your character resembles, along with capture some photos you're able to share on social networking. Details abound and it's wearable, so it's phenomenal for both display and cosplay. Users have been in a position to locate their way to a distinctive developer room that has access to each item in the game. The Pain of Fallout 76 Repair the pacing by reformatting or eliminating time-sensitive challenges A significant issue with Fallout 76 is the fact that it's hoping to be another MMO shooter when Fallout isn't enjoy lots of different shooters. Fallout 76 does not mark the conclusion of Fallout as a run of single-player games tuned to provide everybody who plays an exceptional personalised adventure. Fallout 76 is a prequel to the whole franchise. There are various available pre-order bundles offered for Fallout 76. Well done, you've completed one of the chief quests in Fallout 76! Fallout 76 is only an enormous mess and a disappointment generally, and I have zero idea precisely what the group of Bethesda thought when they made this awful game. The Undisputed Truth About Fallout 76 That the Experts Don't Want You to Know

Using Fallout 76
Top Choices of Fallout 76 The thing with Fallout 76 is it permits you to play exactly as you wish to. Fallout 76 is a prequel to all the preceding Fallout games. It's not that I feel the standard of Fallout ought to be built on free content. The game will permit you to construct your base up as you had the ability to do in Fallout 4. Overall it is pretty easy to get started in, even if you are new to the Fallout series. The End of Fallout 76 You need assistance from dads who have done what it is that you are attempting to do. There are lots of things you can do with different players that isn't a comparison with weapons. The target is currently selected and the sections of the target should be chosen. Fallout 76 is in the procedure for getting its very first patch of the new calendar year. Bethesda has yet to say whether there'll be other choices for beta codes later on. It took to their blog to talk a bit more about the beta and stated that not everyone will be given access as soon as the beta begins. PS4 and Xbox One players will receive the exact patch on Monday, January 14, which ought to contain exactly the same fixes. Patch notes will stay the exact same pending any changes there might be. If it comes to Fallout 76, among the most fascinating changes from Bethesda's normal method of doing things is the announcement that the game is going to receive a public beta. It's true, you will encounter a number of monsters to eliminate, but if you encounter a human, it is a true person playing at home. Exposing what in several cases are children to external influences we have zero ability to control or look after, it's something we must think about very carefully. With that concern from the way, players may begin to think about just how to really acquire the iconic armor. Fallout 76 occurs in West Virginia. Needless to say, they are not thrilled with the current prices. Console players may have to set up an account in case you don't already have one. Top Fallout 76 Secrets When you have the launcher scroll to the base of the page to get the choice to download the game. The teaser's so light on detail, however, it might truly be anything. Moreover, you could also use the game's new photo mode during the creation process to better see the way your character looks, in addition to snap some shots you may share on social networking. Attempting to recoup a part of the net profits would have been even more challenging. To get perks you must open a perk pack that has cards you're able to equip to have skills. You may browse the cards linked to specific S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute or you're able to hit the all'' toggle to see all of them on a single screen. The Downside Risk of Fallout 76 As a consequence, dupers such as these are ruining different players' experiences with the game. So you've got to keep that hope. Things appeared to be going okay! During your search to discover your son, Sean, you stumble across a big ship just sitting atop a financial institution. When fighting alongside friends, a teammate has an opportunity to revive you before you really die. It is possible to also block players that are undeterred by the bounty system and just wish to keep shooting you. The 30-Second Trick for Fallout 76 Presently, there's no way to register for the beta on Bethesda's website or societal media accounts. It estimates that it will be available for between four and eight hours per day, going offline to perform maintenance sporadically. It revealed plans to address issues with several Challenges and quests, various fixes to a number of Perks and weapons, and tackling a number of known exploits. What You Should Do to Find Out About Fallout 76 Before You're Left Behind The standard of an item also translates to the standing of the firm. When joining a server you are able to choose from an assortment of regions to spawn into. There are lots strategy games out there in the marketplace. You're able to choose if you prefer PvP on or off. The trailer makes it appear almost like a Prey roguelike, with you trying to escape the moon repeatedly. Nukes are essentially a brilliant spin on the thought of end-game dungeons or raids. Some traditional mechanics from previous games will be changing to accommodate the shift to internet play. So now onto the way the game runs. There are many other Tower Defense games that are a lot better and free. There is going to be new items, abilities, and gameplay made by Bethesda Game Studios together with outside development partners which include a number of the top mod creators. Unfortunately for console players, you will have to redownload the total release. Bethesda wasn't always a significant player. Dads must locate a positive approach as a way to be observed in family court as a peaceful individual. Keep in mind, most retailers enable you to cancel pre-orders, at no charge, ahead of the release date. You may read our review for it. There is going to be nuclear missile websites on the map `which you can do anything you want with'. Once inside the silos, players may target certain portions of the map to destroy. Even in case you've found all the nuke codes you require, you'll still have to get a Nuclear Keycard. Want to Know More About Fallout 76?

Tumblr media
So E3 is going to be upon us sooner rather than later and I thought I’d place my predictions down in advance.
Xbox: So Xbox is in a strange position. All future first party titles are going to be on game pass for $10 a month. This includes Sea of Thieves which has been our for a couple of months, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, and Forza’s next entry. Because of this I think at most we will get one other first party release at most coming this year. Other titles like Halo 6 might be shown, but only one unannounced unknown first party game revealed this year at E3 will be released by the end of 2018.
Now what could it be? Well maybe this is just the hopeless dreams of a fanboy, but Banjo Kazooie turns 20 two weeks after E3 wraps up. Dropping a from-the-ground-up remaster akin to Shadow of Colossus or the N.sane trilogy would be incredible. Only other thing I could see is the rumored Perfect Dark reboot. Whatever open world game Playground Games is working on I doubt will release this console generation.
On the topic of Banjo turning 20 I can see Rare celebrating with some new content for Sea of Thieves. An Island in the style of Treasure Trove Cove or Hammerhead beach, some new voyages themed to the franchise, but more importantly some cosmetic items. If not themed to the franchise itself they could totally pull from the concept art for Project Dream and give us some Edison and Captain Blackeye. I also think other themed islands are a potential down the line. Viva Piñata makes perfect sense and I’m sure there are other possibilities for more islands inspired by other properties.
Game-pass and Xbox Live Gold I think will become one. Now this isn’t an original idea. Pulled it from Kinda Funny’s Gamescast, but it’s an idea so crazy I think it’s possible. I think the most likely scenario is a 50% discount on Game-pass with a Gold subscription, but that’s mostly because otherwise it’d be doubling the yearly price of Xbox Live Gold. This would mean for $120 a year you’ve got online access on top of a massive library of games including all of the major future Xbox One exclusives.
PlayStation: So Sony has stated what most of the conference will be. The conference itself will be a deep dive into Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us Part II. Obviously we will get gameplay for all four and if The Last of Us Part II is having multiplayer again it will be announced here with a beta this summer. Spider-man will get its last pre-order bonus costume unveiled and whatever is shown will allow the reveal of the collector’s edition’s statue.
Just because the main conference is pretty much confirmed to be just these four games doesn’t mean they won’t reveal anything in the pre-show. Dreams will have a firm date for a beta some time before The Last of Us has its multiplayer beta. If Microsoft doesn’t buy them on to their stage, we will see our first look at Spyro 2 in the Reignited Trilogy during the preshow as well.
Nintendo: Some Zelda Collection for Ocarina’s 20th anniversary. Be it ports of the 3DS remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask up scaled or something more, we will see some celebration of Ocarina of Time this year. I think odds are also likely we will see some Joy-cons for this collection, most likely Ocarina of Time Blue and maybe an Amiibo series for Ocarina with all 7 Sages, another Young Link and Adult Link, and Zelda and Ganondorf. Maybe even another jumbo Amiibo in the Giant Goron or Beast Gannon. I have no idea what they’d all unlock, but people would collect them for damn sure.
We will get at least one Smash character reveals during the Nintendo Direct, and probably one at the Round Table if they’re doing another along with one during the tournament Nintendo will be holding. We will see the new Mario and Zelda stages along with Battlefield for this game. I have a feeling the tournament reveal will be the Arms representative. The reveal in the direct will be third party along with whatever super out there reveal they’ve got planned. If one of these reveal opportunities is missed it’ll be during the tournament.
While the Virtual Console name seems like it’s going away, its equivalent will get announced here and it’ll lead into Smash somehow. GameCube support will be announced for the service/line along with a GameCube style Pro Controller and a set of Joy-cons. If this special Joy-con set is made, I expect ones themed to NES and SNES as well. N64 is possible, but I think it’s less likely. Maybe a special Pro Controller down the line, but that design doesn’t fit the Joy-con design as easily.
So how do you lead in from GameCube support to Smash? Show what looks like Melee footage complete with wave dashing Fox and Marth on Hyrule Temple. Then something out of place for Melee shows up: ideally this is a new character or a returning character. Ideally a Snake or a Wolf or something else with GameCube ties. The new Smash Bros, hopefully named by now, will allow you to not just customize the rules, but physics and such so that you can play like Melee, Brawl, 3DS/WiiU, and 64. Maybe this extends to character models, maybe not, but this would be huge since it would mean online Melee. Oh and a Pre-order bonus would be a code redeemable for Melee on this Virtual Console replacement which will be a launch title for this new service planned to launch in November.
I’m guessing that the character reveals will include one predictable, one unlikely, and at least one third party character. Any and all ports to the Switch I can see slyly leading into a character reveal. I believe that Doom Marine has a real shot, but if they’re coming to Smash, Crash Bandicoot and Banjo & Kazooie will close out the Smash reveals and maybe the conference. Nintendo will recreate the original Smash TV spot from the 90s but instead of Mario starting the Brawl Crash will show up with the megaphone and start the fight. Phil Spencer will point up and Banjo will crash land on top of them all. If Crash isn’t there Banjo will still fall from the sky on top of them.
Whatever Pokémon for Switch ends up being it will be there and there will be connectivity with Pokémon Go. This connectivity will be cosmetic in nature for the most part with occasional event Pokémon. These events won’t be Legendary Pokémon but instead Pokémon with special moves. These will be tied to the Pokémon Go Community Days. The cosmetics will be tied to each games medal system, which will be in the new game.
The Yoshi game will get a title and release date that will be no later than August.
Bethesda: Whether or not it comes out this year or not, Bethesda Studio’s will reveal Starfield. It will be a cross between Destiny and your traditional Fallout or Elder Scrolls title. There will be a mobile tie in and it will launch on at least one Smart Phone Operating System that night and a companion App will launch closer to the game’s release. Expect another recap on what’s going on with Elder Scrolls Online since that’s almost tradition at this point. Some other Switch Port will be announced, probably a Fallout game. If Bethesda is getting a representative in Smash it isn’t entirely impossible for it to happen here, but it’s more likely to be held for the Nintendo Direct.
Ubisoft: If Starlink: Battle for Atlas still exists, they are dropping the Toy’s to Life angle. While the model shown in the reveal trailer will be available via a collector’s edition and maybe even be customizable as was shown, you will instead be buying ship upgrades exclusively through an online shop making the game a Games as a Service title. Just Dance 2019 will be unveiled and it will have both songs from Super Mario Odyssey in the Nintendo versions. Speaking of Nintendo, a massive amount of ports will come to the Switch including the entire Ubiarts lineup (Valiant Hearts and Child of Light), Watch_Dogs 2, maybe 1 as well, and Far Cry 3 Classic. As for new games I’d expect Watch_Dogs 3 that will be a games as a service title. If Beyond Good & Evil 2 is there then they will need to announce a beta or something with plans to run it this year, I don’t expect they’ll hit this year.
EA: Who gives a fuck really? Battlefield will get a new entry. Maybe some Battlefront updates. They need to show something Star Wars that isn’t Battlefront but that’s probably not going to happen. Expect half an hour of sports half an hour of shooty-shooty bang-bang.
Square Enix: I didn’t expect to have to predict this line-up. We will see Shadow of the Tomb Raider here, and it’ll be different footage than what was shown at the Microsoft conference. We will see a chunk of gameplay that the press already saw. The original reboot will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch in July with Rise coming in August. They’ll say that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is in development for the Switch as well but it will not be day-in-date.
Dontnod will reveal the first look at Life is Strange 2. It will be set at Blackwell Academy, but in the distant past. The power will be the ability to read minds. My guess is the late game reveal will be the ability to reshape memories themselves, but obviously they won’t reveal that here. The game will be out later either late this year or early next year. In the meantime the original will be coming to the Nintendo Switch and all current gen versions of the game will be updated with the mobile versions photo mode.
Kingdom Hearts 3 will seem to close the show. The Frozen world will be revealed along with a release date if it hasn’t yet been revealed already. If it’s going to happen at all, the Xbox versions of the various collections will be announced here and they will be out this summer before the release of Kingdom Hearts 3. It will be the one crazy title to try and go toe to toe with Red Dead Redemption in October.
Kingdom Hearts 3 will not close the show however. We will see a cinematic trailer for the Avengers game. No gameplay will be shown on stage, but an alpha build will be shown behind closed doors.

Ex Skyrim Dev’s Gorgeous Open World to Save You From Screenshot Deaths
Tumblr media
It's great to know that you won't have to worry about some obscure creature from folklore cutting you into thousands of tiny bits while you explore the fantasy gaming world, according to a former Bethesda developer who worked on many Fallout games, Skyrim, and the next Starfield. Nate Purkeypile is currently working on The Axis Unseen, an open-world game that focuses on hunting creatures from global folklore. The Axis Unseen is five times bigger than Skyrim, with Purkeypile making the world bigger and filled with drastically different biomes because it doesn’t have or need the caves and indoor areas the way a game like Skyrim would. There are plenty of environments to explore that go through visually dramatic changes depending on the time of day, from snowy mountaintops to lush forests with the light poking through the trees. Murky swamps are also included if you want to get a bit of a FromSoftware feel from The Axis Unseen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMdvFYOlb7Y The beauty of The Axis Unseen hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans and Purkeypile alike as, in response to one fan worrying that they’ll get killed while stopping to take loads of screenshots, Purkeypile says, “I plan on adding a photo mode and a pacifist mode for people who just want to chill and explore instead of getting murdered by monsters.” More open-world games that focus on combat (which let’s face it, is a lot of them) should absolutely do this. It might break the loop of the game somewhat, but it’s a great idea for anyone that really just wants to turn the heads-up display off and take in the world around them, like going for a virtual nature walk with your camera. The Axis Unseen isn’t all that Purkeypile has worked on recently though; we did a Starfield interview with him, as he was still at Bethesda relatively early into the game’s development. He told us all about the workforce size, and how the team has gone about creating an entirely new IP as well. Purkeypile also had a lot of Fallout 5 ideas (but he hasn’t worked on the game at all), if they interest you. You can learn more about The Axis Unseen and wishlist it on Steam. If you want to play even more games like Bethesda’s colossal hit, we’ve put together a list of the best games like Skyrim for you to try out while you wait for the Axis Unseen, or you can make Tamriel feel like an entirely new land with the best Skyrim mods instead. Game Review: Horizon Zero Dawn
Coming off the back of two years worth of hype and anticipation, is Horizon Zero Dawn the game we’re all hoping it is?  ComiConverse contributor Dan Goad has this review.
Game Review: Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn has been on the top of many people’s most anticipated list this year, including mine. After winning Best Original Game at E3 two years running, as well as a host of other pre-release accolades from various outlets, it’s got a lot of hype to live up to. So I’m happy to report upfront that HZD is a great game. In fact, it’s a brilliant one. It’s by no means perfect, but it certainly deserves to stand shoulder to shoulder with The Last of Us as two of the best exclusives PlayStation has to offer.
HZD is set in a post-post-apocalyptic world many centuries in the future. This isn’t a Fallout-style world where humanity is only just recovering from disaster. Civilisation has begun anew and only a few remnants of the world that came before remain. Chief amongst these are the mysterious machines, robotic creatures that seem to be modelled on dinosaurs and other animals. The player character is Aloy, a young woman who is an outcast from her matriarchal society because she has no mother. She is initially driven by her search for an identity, all the while dealing with the non-acceptance of those around her. As the game progresses the player will explore the origins of Aloy, the machines, and the world as a whole.
These multiple mysteries had me hooked from the beginning and I found myself constantly wanting to return to the game to find answers. When the emotional pay-off does come it is well worth the 40+ hours you have been waiting for it. Little touches really help turn this into a believable world, such as audio recordings and misunderstood relics from the previous civilisation. While suffering occasionally from the odd poorly written line, the plot is helped along by a strong voice cast featuring video game veterans like Lance Reddick and JB Blanc, as well as Ashly Burch (Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2) as Aloy. Burch is great as Aloy, delivering complex emotions and just the right amount of sarcasm to make her a fun character to spend this long amount of time with.

There are dialogue choices within the game, but don’t expect branching narratives and massive ripples in the way you would with a Bioware game. Aloy generally has the decision to react aggressively, thoughtfully or emotionally. Sometimes there will be consequences to these decisions later, but there is no good/evil morality scale here. To some this will be a disappointment, but in many ways it is liberating. When you’re freed from the shackles of trying to play the game as a paragon or a renegade you are free to take each choice as it comes and do what makes sense in each situation.
The game has a fairly slow start as you learn the basic mechanics of the game, initially controlling Aloy as a child and later as a young woman. But once you get past those first 90 minutes and the world is open to you, you’re free to proceed however you want. You can continue the main quest, complete some side quests, or just admire the scenery as you traverse and climb it, Uncharted-style.

And make no mistake, that scenery is stunningly beautiful, even on a standard PS4. In fact I’d go as far as to say it has the best looking world of any game ever. The post-post-apocalyptic setting means we don’t have the grey and brown colour scheme from games like Fallout; instead it is all greens and blues. Each tree and rock is meticulously crafted and the range of locations only adds to the visual feast. If I have one criticism it is that sometimes the transitions between different areas, for example going from snowy mountains to desert, can seem sudden and unrealistic – but it is a small price to pay for some of the most disparate landscapes ever seen in a video game. What’s more is that the developers have included a dedicated photo mode, so you can pause the game and start snapping away, adding things like filters or changing angles. It’s a nice little touch that allows you to really preserve and share some of those breathtaking visuals.
The open world and detailed graphics might lead to some concerns over performance, but I don’t have any complaints. Frame-rate is kept consistent at 30 frames per second – a conservative limit, but it means there is no skipping or dropping. Load times are good. It takes a little while to load up, but once you are in there it’s only a few seconds of waiting for fast travel or after death. All of this is of course even better on PS4 Pro.

HZD has been criticised for taking the best elements of a number of other games – Far Cry, Witcher, Tomb Raider, Shadow of Mordor to name a few – and simply mashing them together. But for me the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts. It takes elements from each of those games and shapes them around its immensely fun combat systems.
Combating the machines requires patience and stealth, since Aloy can quickly become overwhelmed if she rushes into a fight. Even the docile “herbivore” machines are aggressive and dangerous if Aloy comes too close. Luckily there is plenty of long grass for Aloy to hide in and she has a number of weapons at her disposal. Her primary weapon is a bow and arrows, with various upgradeable skills – such as slowing time as she aims – helping immensely. She can also lay down trip wires and other traps, as well as more mundane items such as throwing rocks to distract the machines. A lot of these items are virtually useless in the heat of a fight, so careful planning is definitely a must. She has a useful roll skill as well as a melee spear for emergencies, but often the best course of action once discovered is to run, hide and start again.
The most useful weapon in her arsenal is her Focus power. Similar to Assassin’s Creed’s eagle vision or Batman: Arkham’s detective mode, this mode allows Aloy to see the machines through obstacles. She can tag them or their movement paths so they are visible in the normal view. The Focus will also highlight any weak points on the machines’ bodies, which are sometimes weapons which can be knocked off and used by the player. Later in the game Aloy gains the ability to hack the machines to use herself. The effect of hacking depends on the machine, but galloping around on a robot horse is great fun.

Much in the tradition of open worlds from Bethesda or the Witcher 3, the game has a huge map with an extraordinarily large number of things to do. Whilst each side quest has it’s own mini-narrative, often the objectives are very similar. Virtually every one has you tracking someone or something, then killing someone or something. I’m one of those with a compulsive need to complete every mission, but I think some players will start ignoring them before the end of the game.
One small issue with the open world and how it relates to missions is the waypoint system. The HUD includes a compass across the top, which shows the final location of quests. However, quest waypoints in the main field of view will take you step by step to your destination. You might have 5 or 6 waypoints on the way to a quest marker, depending on distance and how complicated the route. Whilst this is useful if you’re trying to navigate round a mountain or similar, because they always lead you along a road you might find yourself going in the opposite direction to your objective. Plus having one waypoint in the main view and a different one on the compass can be confusing. It’s a minor problem that takes some getting used to, or you can disable the waypoints entirely and just rely on the compass and the main map. The HUD is fully customisable, so if you find it too cluttered you can get rid of things you don’t need.
You’ll also find yourself excessively collecting and hoarding virtually everything in the game. You’ll be picking plants for healing, or hunting and killing both machines and real animals for loot. Virtually everything in the world is useful for crafting or trading to merchants, so you’ll quickly become overburdened and have to craft additional storage space.

HZD has one further huge positive that is really worth drawing attention to. Aloy is that rarity in video games, a strong female protagonist. Even more rarely, she is sensibly dressed, never appears on screen in order to titillate, and has no explicitly romantic relationships. And she isn’t the only progressive character. This game is filled with both significant female characters and people of colour. It touches on LGBT issues and mental illness. In an age where every other lead character is a muscled white guy and female characters still have swimsuits instead of armour, HZD feels like a massive step forward for representation in gaming.
Conclusion
Horizon Zero Dawn lives up to the hype and then some. It is a great game and will be winning awards all year long. Yes, it borrows from other games, but it meshes those elements with fun combat, a captivating narrative and a heroine who is both engaging and progressive. It’s a step forward for gaming and is destined to birth a new mega-franchise. It’s not perfect, but it is pretty close.
