out of curiosity what's everyone's metric for deciding between a T and M rating on ao3? mine is that i ask myself "would i have been okay reading this as a teenager" but i also read a song of ice and fire for the first time when i was 14 and idk if that's like. the normal standard for what's appropriate for teens or not

#i also watched breaking bad for the first time when i was 14 so it was a big year for me media-wise i guess #i was not scarred by either bb or asoiaf although i did get a lot more out of both coming back to them as an adult #and i know of at least one other person who read asoiaf at the same age. so my ao3 rating strategy is maybe fine?#that being said i've been described as having “the emotional range of a teaspoon”#so it's possible that things just upset me less than other people and i should be using a different baseline #for the record i don't think the emotional range of a teaspoon thing was meant as an insult but either way it makes me laugh #just in case anyone was about to get offended on my behalf #kvetch oc
