Why (i think) the Finale was Like That:

to preface, if you liked the finale, good for you!! that’s totally valid and i’m not trying to bash that. but i know a lot of people were left wanting more, and i’m one of them. anyway, to my point:

as silly as it sounds, this show is not written for us.

we’re fans. the producers already know we’re gonna watch the show. they don’t need to convince us to give them our attention, they already have it. why waste time digging into random side characters in the larger Star Wars saga when the average person doesn’t even know who that is?

their real job is to convince outsiders to watch. to get hooked. to see an element they like, probably from the main movies, and tune in, even for one episode. if they can get them hooked with fennec or ventress or hell even rex, that’s a win for them.

the plot lines wrap up in such an unsatisfying way because honestly? they cant waste time focusing more on these characters than they have to. the people writing and designing the show might love them and want to include more meaningful resolutions, but that takes too long and costs too much money. you know what’s cheaper and will satisfy the average viewer? kill the mystery clones, cut off the “trauma hand”, and wrap it all up in a nice little “look, she’s joining the rebellion, guys!” moment because the more bland and broad the ending, the more people will understand it.

i mean, remember the Fives mention? Echo didn’t react, he didn’t even stutter, he literally moved the conversation along like they were talking about where to go for dinner like HELLO. we already know they cannot be bothered to show real important emotional scenes because that would take too much spotlight away from the whole star wars politics plot or whatever were supposed to care about. (honestly, who is watching bad batch for the og trilogy implications? woah tarkin and a couple other empire dudes are talking about project stardust definitely gimme more of that and not any meaningful connection between these characters i love)

it’s scummy, it sucks, it especially kills me that the story is basically lost to corporate greed but let’s be honest, this is Disney’s Star Wars. i could literally just leave it there. meaningful moments will always be sacrificed for shock value and character cameos because the random guy seeing an ad is only gonna watch the show if he thinks “oh cool, tarkin, i didn’t know he was in that show, maybe i should see what that’s about.”

and yes, i know, there absolutely is a ton of love and care poured into this show. i appreciate the effort that went into it. i’m just sad they didn’t have full creative freedom under Disney to give us the story we wanted.

but you know who won’t sacrifice story for money? you know who’s guaranteed to have the fans’ interests in mind? you know who does have full creative freedom and is equally pissed about bad show moments and want to do them better? FANFIC AUTHORS. Fan artists, theorists, even roleplay accounts and every other type of dedicated fandom blog is here for that shit and will reshape things however they want a million different ways because that’s the point. the show simply cannot give us what we want, but we can make it ourselves.

your support, your creativity, and your determination to give these characters what they deserve is how we can solve the problem.

i didn’t really mean to turn all “we’re all in this together” here lol but yknow what i really do mean that. i think supporting the community around you is the best option we have for truly enjoying all of this show’s potential.

Originally, I was going to wait until after I finished case (trial? Chapter?) four, but I wasn’t able to play any of the game for a while and I’m already starting to forget what chapters two and three were about.

The new gameplay hasn’t really improved for me and I started reading off of a walkthrough for the Logic Dive.  The way everything moves around makes me a little dizzy so it’s hard to think about what I’m doing.  I don’t think Logic Dive is a bad mechanic, but I’m just not good at games like that and solving logic puzzles at the same time.  I still really dislike Rebuttal Showdown just because of how frustrating it is.  I’ve mostly figured out how it works but it’s not fun.  (Improved) Hangman’s Gambit still takes the cake.  Why would they take out the hint letters when the words can be 7+ letters long plus another one?  It’s just the part where the game goes, “SUP, TAKE SOME UNFAIR DAMAGE!  I’M A SADIST!”

Everything else is fine, though.  I like having more truth bullets for the Nonstop Debates–it makes things harder since the first game was a walk in the park for the most part.  All of the new changes to the Nonstop Debates have been good ones, I think.  Minus the one where the little dots for which statement is where, of course, but I’ve gotten used to it.  I’ve adapted to the new way the rhythm game is laid out but still have trouble with it sometimes.  It hasn’t become too much of a big issue so I’ll let it slide.  Just listening to the music and using the tempo off of that sounds like an easier option.  I should try it next time if the game lets me suddenly jump into settings.

Anyway, onto the story, I liked the second trial.  It started off a little slow and was kind of hard to remember all the different girls since they don’t have names, and I didn’t pay any special attention to their personalities.  I’m really glad Hajime and Chiaki were because I’d have been screwed otherwise.  After we got out of that, I really liked it, especially when we started going after Peko.  I loved how crazy the trial went when she suddenly started acting like a psycho Sailor Moon.  It was eerie and I thought it paid off.  Then she goes back to normal and it turns out that she’s nothing but a personal slave to Fuyuhiko.  I mostly just like this case because I like Peko, and it made Fuyuhiko much more likable with much-needed characteristics other than “asshole mafia guy”.  I like how his relationship with Peko was left somewhat ambiguous.  I prefer them as friends, but I don’t think I’d mind knowing their ship is fairly popular.  Gah, this game makes me think about shipping more than the last one. cx  Hey, how bad is the shipping community in the DR fanbase?  On a scale of “rude and callous” to “complete shitshow”, of course.

I loved trial three.  It was all over the place but I didn’t once feel lost in all the chaos.  I really liked how all the logic puzzles worked out, the motive of the culprit was crazy but fit her character well.  What I really enjoyed about when we accused Mikan was that she didn’t suddenly become a different person.  Even at the end, she was still the Mikan we saw throughout the game but just that all the bullying she received destroyed her psyche and she had reached her breaking point.  Another thing about Mikan I noticed was how the rope tying Monomi to the ceiling was deliberately positioned by her and Monomi had stopped swinging back and forth.  I really doubt that was a coincidence.

I didn’t really care about the traditional dancer (what was her name again?  Erm…) since she was too abrasive for my taste and she was killed before she could really turn over a new leaf like Fuyuhiko, but Ibuki was my favorite.  I’m really disappointed she was killed off.  Hajime’s sarcastic, dramatic poetry is great.  I love it.  Nekomaru’s a pal, and the ultimate breeder’s really entertaining and always fun to see when he pops up.  I don’t know how other people feel about him but I like him.  I hope he doesn’t die or something.  Nagito’s…weird.  If everyone tolerated him more in the game, I’d really dislike him.  But the writers pulled him off really well.  I can’t imagine he’s an easy character to get right.  

I have no clue what Hajime’s talent could be other than “Ultimate Betrayer” but…I don’t know.  I feel like someone who thought he was the traitor would call him that to mess with him.  I don’t really think that that’s his talent.  Oh, speaking of people thinking he was the traitor, when he’s ditched by his friends in the funhouse, and thinks, “So that means they trust Nagito more than me?  What the hell…” I thought that was really funny.  I don’t know why, but that was amusing to me.  His incredulous attitude towards everyone was perfectly in-character and a shot at Nagito’s character at the same time.  That was probably not something I should have snorted at but I don’t really care.  That is the kind of quality things you can entertain me with.

Trial 2 is one of my faves. So emotional ;_; And the way it jump-starts Fuyuhiko’s character development is great, he’s one of the best in the game. Their ship (Kuzupeko) is indeed very popular! And yes, I also noticed this game lends itself more to ship tease than the past one. As for the shipping community…erm…I’d like to say it’s not bad, buuuuuut I’ve gotten anon hate for a crack ship and some ships have particularly extreme fans (one so extreme they’ve tainted themselves to the entire fandom). Kuzupeko is a pretty safe ship to sail, though. If you stay in your lane and utilize blocking when necessary, you can usually avoid drama. Anything else caught your eye?

I’m iffy on Trial 3. On the one hand Mikan’s plan did have some really clever parts, and I liked that she played up her ‘weak’ personality to get the others to jump on Hajime. On the other hand her motivation was awful (she sadly didn’t snap, she got the Despair Disease) and that execution is easily one of the worst in the franchise.

Hiyoko, that’s traditional dancer girl’s name. Yeah, I don’t like her at all, she’s a bitch. The original plan was for them to kill Fuyuhiko instead of her, and honestly? I’m glad Fuyuhiko got to live instead. If BOTH of them could have lived that’d have been interesting, especially considering some latter events, but if it had to be one or the other it’d be Fuyuhiko for me, every time.

Ibuki was a fave too :( She was just such a happy, cheerful character. The tone definitely becomes more somber after she dies. Nekomaru is okay with me, he’s got good FTEs, but not my fave. Gundham (Ultimate Breeder) is in the unfortunate position of being similar to a recurring character from another franchise, a character I’m tired of. So while I get how he’d be entertaining, he’s too worn-out for me.

I told you Nagito was unique. I don’t like him as a person, but I respect him as a character.

Interesting guess of a talent. Hajime’s reaction to that was me perfectly. “You trust NAGITO more than you trust me?!” indeed. He’s the snarkiest person in the entire game and it is great.
