chat is encouraging someone to step out of their comfort zone and try a technique that's much easier than it looks 'being unkind to beginners'
#this is still about the handsome chris sweater post#i can't stop thinking about it#like if you want to knit plain stockinette your whole life then you do you. no judgement#but how is telling someone the intimidating-looking thing isn't actually that hard 'being unkind'#also consider that everyone has been a beginner at some point#i was a beginner less than a year ago#i got taught how to hold the needles and do a basic knit and purl and i taught myself fucking everything after that#i picked up a self-drafted project that people who had been knitting for years said was straight-up impossible within what knitting allows#and it came out fantastic#and it was my first project#i am not special#if i can do it so can anyone#honestly i feel it's a borderline anti-intellectual take#all the resources are out there you just need to go looking intstead of retreating into your shell#anyway#i'm done engaging with those people bc there was very clearly a divide between#'one step at a time' and 'pick an insane project and hurl yourself against it until it works' and it's a matter of personal preference#but people are acting like their way is the only valid way#via shitposts
