I'm Your Idiot
Word Count: ~900 CW: angst to fluff, hurt/comfort
You laugh bitterly as your phone once again lights up signalling an incoming call. Of course. It’s only now that he wants to talk.
You almost let the call go to voicemail like the previous five times he's tried to call you, but you aren’t cruel – not as vindicative as you’d like to be anyway.
“What?” you snarl.
The familiar sound of your name falling from his lips is almost enough to crumble your defenses, but you hold steady and wait. However, nothing else comes from the other side of the line.
“Well, if that’s all you’ve gotta say then, thanks for wasting my time yet again, Tsukki.” You barely have the energy to conjure up any malice. You just hope he knows that at this point you’re utterly exhausted.
Your finger hovers over the button to end the call, but as if he can sense your indecision, Tsukishima interjects.
“Wait!” It may be just your imagination, but you could swear that his voice quivers near the end. “Please.”
“I’m so tired of waiting,” you admit as you take a seat on the park bench.
He calls your name again, but this time his voice sounds a lot clearer than it would be if he were only on the other side of the line.
“May I hold you?” And there he is on both knees dirtying his perfectly pressed slacks on the grass underneath your feet.
As tempted as you are to bury your head into his chest, you also know that doing so would be doing more harm than good. You both need to air some things out.
You shake your head and he immediately wilts.
“You can sit with me,” you find yourself acquiescing.
He scrambles up to the bench, making sure to keep a careful distance between the two of you.
The humid summer evening air threatens to suffocate you as you sit in silence with the man who holds your heart. And as much as you know he should be the one to start this conversation, you have never been the type to be comfortable with the quiet.
“How’d you even know I was here?” you ask.
He chuckles wryly. “I do know you after all,” he starts. “And I remember you bringing me here on one of our first dates and saying that you like to come out here when the world gets a bit too much.”
Your heart softens at the thought of him remembering that detail. “You remembered that? But we haven’t been back here since?”
Tsukishima captures your gaze. “It seemed important to you, and I try to keep in mind what’s important to you.”
You barely resist the urge to scoff. “I don’t know Tsukki. Seems like you had no problem forgetting our plans for today.”
He groans. “I know. I messed up.” He pointedly looks at your hands and you nod giving him permission to take them in his own. “I am so sorry, love.”
You feign shock as you gasp dramatically. “The great Tsukishima Kei actually apologizing?!”
He shakes his head at your antics. “From the very bottom of my heart, I’m sorry.”
You motion for him to continue with your hand, and he shoots you a mild look of fond annoyance – one that you’re more than familiar with after exactly a year of dating him.
“You’re really milking this for all that it’s worth, aren’t you?” he asks.
“Yup!” you say popping the ‘p’ at the end. “Hold on, let me actually get this on my phone.”
You swipe on your phone to capture his apology on video. “Start over.”
He rolls his eyes in exasperation but nonetheless gently grasps the hand not holding your phone. He says your name softly.
 “I’m an idiot,” he says.
You give him a thumbs up and mouth ‘Great start’ at him to which he sends you a brief glare before his eyes soften once more.
He clears his throat. “I’m an idiot who kept the love of my life waiting in a restaurant on our anniversary because I forgot. I’m an idiot who couldn’t control my sharp tongue and lashed out with words that I know hurt you and for that I am so sorry.” His voice nearly cracks at the end.
You put your phone down as you gently wipe the tears away from his eyes.
He presses a kiss to the palm of your hand.
“But I’m also an idiot who’s grateful that I get to wake up everyday beside you, because I’m your idiot.”
A wet chuckle leaves your lips as you burrow your head into his chest. “You’re forgiven,” the words are muffled into his shirt, but he hears them and squeezes his arms around you in response.
“Can we go home? Please. I just- I need you.” He whispers.
He can feel you smile into his shirt before you move your head away. “Can’t fall asleep without me, huh?”
He gives you a thoughtful look. “I could probably try, but I would rather not,” he answers honestly.
“Gee, Kei,” you say and the look on your face lets him know that you’re not done teasing him. “I didn’t know you were that much of a simp for me.”
Even with only the dim streetlights, you can still see the beginning of a blush forming on his face.
“You’re making me regret asking,” he grumbles.
You grin at him playfully. “But you love me anyway.”
He sighs. “And I’ll spend the rest of my life loving you, if you’ll let me.”
