Just wanted to let someone in the fandom know that I'm finally ending my support of this band. I realized they were in my top 5 streamed artists for like, almost 9 years, and this year will be their last in that spot. GH sucked imo except for Violet and Fuzzy (honorable mention Snow globe), and I'm sick of Awsten's antics. The more fame/attention he gains, the worse he becomes. I miss the kid who got excited over 5000 views on his homemade music video for IANB. He's really lost it idk. I'm also tired of the constant fandom drama between all the teenagers on Twitter and Discord. I'm moving on after being a fan since 2012. Technology in a Crisis - By IanB

The Corona Virus seems to have taken over our lives recently and if your anything like me you are currently relying more and more on Technology to help keep you connected!

The way I see it is that there are 2 main elements where technology is helping:

1.     You have your Social Network Sites that are helping to keep you connected and share updates with friends and family as well as keeping you up to date with all the latest and breaking news from the UK and around the World.

2.     You also have the new way of keeping in touch with Friends and Family through Video Conferencing (FaceTime, Zoom, Google Hangouts etc) – these have each come in their own in the last few months to keep you connected to everyone and give a slight sense of normality (albeit through a webcam and on a screen!).

“How would you manage without Social Media?” This is a question I have heard asked a lot of the last few weeks, we all are becoming reliant on it more and more and as the virus is stopping us from being with each other (for example, we are sharing online as well as taking in challenges (Like the Run5 Donate5) that keep us connected. This is giving us the opportunity to be a part of something like never before with friends and family when we/ them need it the most!  

Media and News Companies use Social Media as well to share the latest breaking news. Think back a few years, the only way you would get the news was either through a newspaper or by watching the news on TV. Now we have it in the palm of ours hands able to dive in and out of the articles we want to see and read about wherever and whenever. This is giving us a voice like never before as we are able to share our thoughts and feelings; further highlighting how Social Media has become one of the most powerful ways of staying connected. I think that we now call these our second homes; they’re where we share when we are down, when we are happy and when we are at that concert and want to share it with the world!

Video conferencing has exploded in the last 4 weeks, transforming from something we use for work and education purposes to being the cornerstone of how we cope and keep connected through a crisis. In the past you would pick up the corded phone in the house or put pen to paper and write a letter but in 2020 we turn to technology. Safe to say at the beginning of the year if you asked me what Zoom was I would say zooming in on something right… Wrong. It has enabled me for example to join in a weekly quiz after work with colleagues and mates without needing to break the social distancing rules; allowing us to sit at home and all virtually come together and chat.

If the internet didn’t exist we would effectively be cut off from everyone, except for the people in our house and the odd telephone call. It’s been fantastic to see everyone and chat to them, yes it has its pitfalls; the picture freezing and some funny camera angles!! But without it I would be lost and lonely. Personally, as someone who has recently left the family home I can sometimes feel cut off from the rest of my friends and family but Facetime and Zoom have kept me connected and up to date with what’s been happening and I’m grateful for it.

Now I’m not saying that when this is all over (which it will be; I hope!!) that we are going to do everything online from now on… far from it, I will be the first to say that when this is over I’m heading straight to the Cinema and out for a meal out with mates, but when we look back we will be able to say that technology was there to make our lives better and help keep us all connected, it really is amazing to think.
