#aj.txt#ok to rb#this is abt the plastic straw ban btw#since they got banned i constantly see able bodied ppl defending it and like. you guys just AREN'T listening to us#like. for some of us there is no alternative. ppl with sensory issues can't always use paper or bamboo straws#ppl w seizures can't use metal or hard plastic or bamboo straws. ppl with motor issues may not have the dexterity to clean reusable straws#for some of us single use plastic is the only option#also plastic straws while yes bad for the environment make up something like less than 1% of plastic pollution#if you wanna get something banned work on plastic fishing materials bc that's something like 40%#the whole straw thing is literally just the government blaming regular people rather than dealing with the actual issur#issue*. which is abt 10 corporations which are responsible for smth like 90% of carbon emissions#so yes if you can use paper straws then that's great and obviously it should be encouraged#but if your activism is at the expense of disabled people who NEED something and you're taking that away for god's sake reevaluate yourself#because disabled people not using plastic straws is NOT the solution to climate change and in the grand scheme of things will do nothing#if you can use recyclable or reusable options then yeah do it and ofc it will add up if everyone who can does#but taking away a literal mobility aid for disabled people who need it is fucking stupid#feel free to rb if u want but don't clown or start suggesting other options ffs yes i KNOW silicone straws exist no they DON'T work. die
