Can you crack IIT JEE in 6 months?
Those who think that it's impossible to crack JEE in 6 months, think again. Here is how you can go about it:
Study sincerely - Since you haven’t done much till now, be as sincere as you can for the next 6 months.
Never give up - There is no gain without pain so work hard, be sincere and never give up.
Keep your cool - If you are planning to start now this is essential because there will be stages in your preparation where you might panic but you have to maintain your cool.
Three subjects, so little time! Step 1 is to find books - this post gives you an entire list of books you MUST study inside out for JEE 14. Here is a complete list of the do-or-die chapters if you want to have a shot at JEE 2014:
Physics
Heat and thermodynamics
Electrostatics
Rotational motion
Wave motion
Laws of motion
Magnetic effects of current
Chemistry
General organic chemistry
Alcohol phenol ether
Redox reactions
Chemical bonding
Coordination compounds

S-Block elements
Aldehyde and Ketone
Solutions
Solid state
Maths
Probability
Circles
Definite integration
Vectors
Theory of equations
Complex numbers
Three dimensional geometry
Sequences and series
Matrices and determinants
Studying sincerely for 3 to 5 months is equivalent to studying not so seriously for 2 years. There is still time for you to prepare for JEE. Doubts? Ask in comments below.

Interview with Vishwanath Maheshwary
Students preparing for IIT JEE need the “right” guidance. A lot of students work extremely hard but but miss out on smarter ways to study for the IIT JEE from teachers and seniors.
At Unlimited Gyan, we understand its importance and hence, invited Prof. Vishwanath Maheshwary for an interview. Prof. Vishwanath Maheshwary teaches chemistry to ~300 students every year. Vishwanath Sir also records good chemistry video lectures for reference (now, available on Coach Pal for free). Here is what he has to say:
What are the top 3 tips for students preparing for JEE 2014?
Complete the syllabus 6 months before the exam. December would be the right time.
Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Be practical. Don’t think that you can work 20 hours a day. It is not possible.
Hard work in right direction with great mentor is the key to success. Hard work without good mentorship will not get you anywhere.
Any special advice for preparing in the new format?
Focus on, both, Boards and Competitive Exam syllabi. If you love your books, your parents and your mentors, nothing is impossible for you. Try to study an entire subject with a single teacher. Don’t switch teachers mid-way because they have different teaching styles.
How many hours should students study every day?
3-4 hour self study is essential. Regular effort every day will take you a long way to cracking the JEE Exam.
Any other general advice?
Enjoy the questions. Have fun.
Thats all for today, folks! Have questions for Prof. Vishwanath? Comment below for answers. And, don’t forget to look for his video lectures available on Coach Pal.

How to get the most benefit out of a test series?
Early on in your prep, it is extremely important to solve topic wise tests or per-chapter tests (This blog post tells you its importance). Closer to Nov-Dec, join a good online or paper-based test series. Be regular with your test series but spend very little time preparing for these tests.
How to get the most benefit out of test series?
Take Sample Tests as if it were the actual IIT JEE exam: If the timing for JEE Paper 1 is 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon and JEE Paper 2 is 2:00 PM -5:00 PM, sit for tests each day at 9:00 AM sharp. Between 12:00 and 2:00 PM, check your score for Paper 1. Leave solutions for later. Relax before starting again at 2:00 PM sharp.
Simulate the same environment: Sit at a table in a quiet place, don’t let your parents disturb you. Let your biological clock adjust to the exam schedule.
Check solutions: Go through all solutions for questions you incorrectly answered to. Analyze your weakest and strongest topics. Some online test series websites like Coach Pal, MyPAT, etc do this for you.
Take a break: After the test session, relax for an hour or so. Watch TV. Visit friends. Sleep.
The more sincerely you solve problems, the more your rank is likely to improve. This practice could increase your scores by 10 – 15 %.

5 Reasons why you will never get into an IIT?
Dear student,
It is October already and no doubt you are studying very hard. However, just working hard is not going to help you make it through JEE. Here are the top 5 reasons why you will not be able to crack JEE:
Full syllabus tests
Believe it or not, its just October and you do not need full length tests. Chapter wise tests are what is going to give you an edge. Come December, take every full length test you can get your hands on.
Local tests
Have you only been taking tests at your tuition? Take national level tests and know how you are performing at a national level. You will be competing with students from all over India on D-Day.
No timetable
Having no timetable is like walking with your eyes closed. Create a timetable for your revision
Only theory
Have you been focusing more on theory and less on practice? Even God may not be able to help you. From now on, practice topics after reading theory, through mock tests.
No rest
Think you can work 16 hours a day without taking time for exercise or games? Think again - you are undergoing a lot of stress and your body needs rest. Go out and play every day.
Hope you will not commit these mistakes. This article is not meant to discourage you. It is only meant to help you realize the common pitfalls in your way to cracking JEE. These are easily fixable pitfalls and will have a huge impact on your results.
Best of Luck!

Which books should I use to study for IIT JEE, AIEEE, BITS Pilani BITSAT?
Why are books such a big deal? Because studying the right syllabus from the right books can mean getting a rank vs not getting one at all. Here are books and mock test series that Pratik Poddar (AIR 3, 2008) referred to, keeping in mind the syllabus:
Physics:
NCERT
Concepts in Physics by H.C Verma (Two volumes)
Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov
University Physics by Freedman and Young or Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday, Resnick and Walker
Aptitude Test Problems in Physics by S.S. Krotov
Chemistry:
NCERT
Numerical Chemistry by P. Bahadur or Numerical Chemistry by R.C. Mukherjee
Concise Inorganic Chemistry by J.D. Lee
Chemistry Principles & Applications by Sienko and Plane
Organic Chemistry by Solomons and Frhyle or Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd
Mathematics:
NCERT
Higher Algebra by Hall and Knight
Problems in Mathematics by V Govorov, P.Dybov, N.Miroshin, S.Smirnova (Edited by A.I. Prilepko)
Trigonometry by S.L Loney
Coordinate Geometry by S.L. Loney
A Course in Mathematics for IIT-JEE by Tata Mc-Graw Hill
Important:
A strict No No to the books by the following publishers: Dinesh, Pradeep, Krishna, Modern's, Arihant, Gupta and Gupta.
Says Abhijit Lavania (AIR 27, 2013), since IIT JEE went online this year, “I also referred to online video lectures by the likes of Khan Academy, Udemy, Youtube channels.Video lectures help you understand and revise topics that you failed to understand in class”.
Do you study from these books and take online video lectures?

Your IIT JEE 2014 strategy: “Do. Or do not. There is no try.”
Clearing the IIT JEE exam is not easy. In fact, it is going to take extreme amounts of discipline, seriousness and planning to even stand a chance. No sugar coating whatsoever. If you have not yet begun serious studies, here is a strategy you might want to adopt to clear the JEE Mains, considering that the exam is just a few months away:
Chemistry: Study the NCERT for Chemistry inside out. No exceptions. Rock the board exams with this, clear the JEE Mains and knock out a good 50% chunk for JEE Advanced.
Mathematics: First, find topics you can easily crack. These should be in a typical list: Vector Algebra, Differentiation, Differential Equations, Maxima/Minima, Probability, Permutations and Combinations, Matrix Algebra and Determinants. Second, solve advanced questions in all these topics.
Physics: H C Verma becomes your new best friend for Mechanics from standard 11. Study from 12th standard books for all other topics.
All set with Mains, you now have 55 solid days to crack Advanced. Keep revising the NCERT for Chemistry and couple this with tougher problems in Physical Chemistry. Test yourself like there is no tomorrow. Lastly, "Do. Or Do Not. There is No Try."
