Akihito/Sutokuin MBTI Analysis

Akihito is an INFJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging).

Right off the bat, it is obvious that Akihito is not an outgoing person. He trusts two people in the entire universe, and only two people: Yasuchika and Ibuki. The painful experiences that haunt him from his past led to him not opening up to almost anybody. When making decisions, Akihito often "reads the air" around him. He manipulates the situation to save face while calculating the motives of the person in front of him. This is a survival skill that Akihito acquired at a steep cost while growing up shunned by his father and the court. He had to always be on the lookout for assassins seeking to kill the infamous "Sutokuin," usurpers attempting to steak his throne, and double-faced liars trying to curry his favor in order to use him as a political pawn. There is a saying that, "you look into darkness and the darkness will look into you," and this is no different for Akihito. As a result of many negative encounters with cunning people in the past, he adopted their shrewd, perceptive mentality. He recognizes that one cannot always take a situation at face value and that gut instinct can communicate more information about the truth rather than what one simply sees. Akihito trusts his own impressions of a state of affairs rather than taking others' notions for granted. Hence, intuitive over sensory.

Initially, Akihito may appear to fit the traits of a coldly calculating, solely analytical personality at first, but he is in fact strongly driven by his emotions. Witnessing the aftereffects of being irreversibly cursed in his childhood and the unjust damage it wrought unto his reputation, Akihito does not want to let others suffer a similar type of injustice due to simply being born with less power than others. This is why he carefully amends the law codes to enable the poor to reap the benefits of lower tax rates, occasionally pardons individuals out of prison if their "crime" was meant to be a nonviolent help to their family (e.g. stealing a small loaf of bread on one occasion), and actively learning from the negative consequences his policies may have produced in order to shape better ones. The emperor is a complicated man, formed by his early encounters with injustice, a naturally gentle disposition, and a generous, compassionate heart. He honestly desires the best for his kingdom. Hence, feeling instead of thinking.

As the leader of a state, Akihito possesses the ability to strategize ahead for the future by anticipating opponents' possible moves and efficiently counteracting them. He does not just sit around perceiving what is happening, he actively takes a stance to support his best interests. Being raised from a young age to be concerned about Hinamoto's welfare, Akihito is skilled in matters of jurisprudence, diplomacy, and negotiation. He is willing to compromise as long as it leads to the achievement of a goal, but not on the major issues. For example, in his route, when deciding to singlehandedly take on the burden of freeing the entire kingdom of its curse by sacrificing solely himself, Akihito planned meticulously ahead, but jumped at the opportunity to further his aims at every chance. One can see the mentality of a man who grew up without much support or opportunity reflected in his self-sufficent mentality. Akihito may appear noble at first glance with an elegant face and graceful almond-shaped eyes, but there lays a backbone of steel beneath the calm facade. Hence, judging over perceiving.

The MBTI personality analysis system is not a wholeheartedly trustworthy one to understand all of the nuances of a unique individual. Nevertheless, it can be a fun pasttime to explore on people in different situations. MBTI is far from being 100% accurate, but is designed only as a hobby. This is one psychological framework that can be applied to human beings, as long as it is meant only in a nonserious context.
