Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are already facing charges of human trafficking and rape, were arrested again late Monday in the Romanian town of Voluntari at the request of the British authorities on charges related to alleged crimes committed in the UK from 2012 to 2015.

“On March 11, around 11.15pm, police officers of the Criminal Investigation Service, the Special Actions Service and police officers from Voluntari implemented two European arrest warrants, issued by the judicial authorities in Great Britain, for the commission of crimes of sexual exploitation of some people on the territory of Great Britain,” said a press release issued by the Ilfov County Police.

The two men, who live in Voluntari, were detained for 24 hours. Both brothers have denied all the charges against them.

“Andrew and Tristan Tate unequivocally deny all allegations and decry what they perceive as an exploitative use of the legal system. They are fully committed to challenging these accusations with unwavering determination and resolve,” their spokesperson told The Guardian newspaper.

In June 2023, Romania’s Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism, DIICOT, charged both brothers, alongside two women alleged to be their accomplices, with human trafficking and rape.

DIICOT claimed that they established a criminal group to sexually exploit women at the start of 2021. One of the victims was allegedly forced by one of the defendants, through the use of physical violence and psychological pressure, to repeatedly have sex.

The brothers have also denied these allegations.

In August 2023, the Tate brothers were released from house arrest, but their movements were restricted to Ilfov County, where they live, and the municipality of Bucharest, except with the prior judicial approval.

In September 2023, the two brothers asked the court for permission to leave Romania. Their request was rejected but they were allowed to move around within Romania.

The Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled in December 2023 that restrictions on their movement should remain and that they should not be allowed to leave Romania.

Last Thursday, they again asked Romanian judges to allow them to leave the country, claiming that their mother had suffered a heart attack.

The Bucharest Court of Appeal is to decide on Tuesday on the implementation of the European arrest warrants issued at the request of the UK.

BUCHAREST, Romania — A court in Romania’s capital on Friday ruled that a trial can start in the case of influencer Andrew Tate, who is charged with human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.

The Bucharest Tribunal ruled that prosecutors’ case file against Tate met the legal criteria but did not set a date for the trial to begin. Tate’s spokesperson, Mateea Petrescu, said the ruling has been appealed.

Tate, 37, was arrested in December 2022 near Bucharest along with his brother, Tristan Tate, and two Romanian women. Romanian prosecutors formally indicted all four in June last year. They have denied the allegations.

“The ruling issued by the preliminary chamber judge lacks legal basis and reasoning,” Eugen Vidineac, one of the brothers’ lawyers, said after the decision. “We have filed a strong appeal as we believe the ruling to be unlawful.”

Ahead of the court’s decision Friday, the legal case had been discussed for months in the preliminary chamber stages, a process in which the defendants can challenge prosecutors’ evidence and case file.

“We reassert our belief in the fairness of the arguments we presented during the preliminary hearing and in the memoranda concerning the legality of the criminal investigation,” said Ioan Gliga, another lawyer for the Tates. “Although they did not receive the necessary attention in the preliminary hearing, we are confident that the appeal court judge panel will support us.”

Andrew Tate, who has amassed 9.1 million followers on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, has repeatedly claimed that prosecutors in Romania have no evidence against him and that there is a political conspiracy to silence him.

Tate was previously banned from various prominent social media platforms for expressing misogynistic views and for hate speech. Both Tates are dual British-U.S. citizens.

Last month, the Bucharest Tribunal extended geographical restrictions against Tate, a former professional kickboxer, stipulating he cannot leave the country. Tate had requested that he be able to travel within the European Union with the prior approval of a judge.

After the Tate brothers’ arrest, they were held for three months in police detention before being moved to house arrest. They were later restricted to Bucharest Municipality and nearby Ilfov County, but can now travel freely around Romania.

Also last month, the Tate brothers appeared at the Bucharest Court of Appeal in a separate case, after British authorities issued arrest warrants over allegations of sexual aggression in a U.K. case dating back to 2012-2015.

The appeals court granted the British request to extradite the the Tates to the U.K., but only after legal proceedings in Romania have concluded.

            ~ “Mogoșoaia Palace, historical building in the town of Mogoșoaia, Ilfov county, Muntenia, Romania, located about 15 km from the centre of Bucharest. The complex contains the building itself, its courtyard with the watch tower, the cuhnia (kitchen), the guest house, the ice house and the vault of the Bibescu family, as well as the ‘Saint Gheorghe’ church located near the walls of the courtyard.     The Mogoșoaia Palace was in the possession of the Brâncoveanu family for approximately 119 years, then passing into the ownership of the Bibescu family. The palace was built until 1702 by Constantin Brâncoveanu in the Brâncoven style, a style previously used in another voivode's palace, built by him in Potlogi. The work was finished on September 20, 1702, according to the inscription on the east side of the palace. The date of the start of construction is not known, but it is known that Brâncoveanu started buying land in the area in 1681.

    After 1714, when Constantin Brâncoveanu was executed in Constantinople together with his sons, all the family's wealth was confiscated by the Ottomans and the palace was turned into an inn. Redeemed by the ruler Ștefan Cantacuzino, it then returned to the great ban Constantin Brâncoveanu, the ruler's grandson, and remained in the family's possession until the beginning of the 19th century. The palace was devastated by the Ottomans during the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774, because the great ban Nicolae Brâncoveanu had sided with the Russians in the conflict. Another destruction of the palace took place on the occasion of the revolution of 1821 when the last descendant of the Brâncoven family, Grigore Brâncoveanu, fled to Brașov and the building was occupied by the Pandi.

      After Grigore's death in 1832, the Mogoșoaia property was inherited by his adopted daughter, Zoe Mavrocordat, and through her marriage to the ruler Gheorghe Bibescu, concluded in 1826, it passed into his family. The palace was renovated between 1860–1880 by Nicolae Bibescu, who also built the family vault in the palace park, and the nearby Elchingen villa. The palace was still administered by the Bibescu family who, however, moved to the new villa and the old building remained uninhabited. This until 1911, when Maria-Nicole Darvari sold the palace to her cousin George-Valentin Bibescu, who gave it as a wedding present to his wife, Martha.

The era of Martha Bibescu (1912-45).

    Martha Bibescu took care of renovating the palace starting in 1912. During the First World War, the renovation works were hampered by further destruction suffered as a result of the German bombings. During the German occupation of Bucharest and southern Romania, Princess Martha Bibescu remained in the capital, taking care of Queen Maria's hospital and living in the palace for a while. Returning to the country after she had gone to London, being accused of collaborating with the German troops, Martha Bibescu resumed the renovation works after 1920, spending a large part of the wealth collected from the books she wrote. Thus, the palace was re-inaugurated in 1927, with some interior works continuing, however, until 1935. While it was owned by Marthea Bibescu, the palace was visited by personalities such as August von Mackensen, Charles de Gaulle, Marcel Proust, Nicolae Iorga, King Alfonso XIII of Spain, King Carol I of Romania, Queen Maria of Romania, King Ferdinand I of Romania or Winston Churchill. During the Second World War, the palace was a meeting place for allied diplomats, being, for a few months, rented to the Swiss legation in Romania.

Under the communist regime (1945-89).

       After March 6, 1945, the estate was forcibly nationalised by the communist government, Martha Bibescu obtaining from the authorities the declaration of the palace as a historical monument, which she still owned. However, the princess left the country for good in September 1945, leaving the palace to her daughter Valentina and her husband, Dimitrie Ghika-Comănești, son of Eugen Ghica-Comănești.       In 1949, the palace was also nationalised, Valentina and Dimitrie Ghika-Comănești were arrested. By 1957, the building was ravaged and ransacked, the art collections stolen and dismantled. It was only in 1957 that the palace became the seat of the feudal section of the National Art Museum, being restored starting in 1977.

After 1990.

    Currently, the Mogoșoaia Palace houses the Brâncoveneasc Art Museum and is an important tourist attraction. Starting from 2010, the legal heirs of Marthea Bibescu, who live in Great Britain, are fighting in court for the recovery of the complex, or if necessary for obtaining adequate compensation.” ~

The Romanian organised crime prosecutors on Tuesday charged brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate with organising a criminal group, aggravated human trafficking, aggravated rape, unlawful access to a computer system, tampering with the integrity of computer data and instigating battery or other violence.

Two alleged female accomplices of the Tate brothers were also charged with being part of the same criminal group.

Together they plotted to commit human trafficking in Romania but also in countries such as the US and Britain, according to the prosecutors.

The organised criminal group run by Andrew and Tristan Tate is alleged to have sexually exploited seven people.

The prosecutors said that the brothers recruited their victims by falsely claiming they were in love with them and promising marriage.

“The exploited persons were later transported and housed in buildings in Ilfov county, near Bucharest, where, by exercising acts of physical violence and mental coercion (through intimidation, constant surveillance, control and invoking alleged debts), members of the [organised crime] group sexually exploited them by forcing them to perform pornographic demonstrations to produce and disseminate through some social media platforms,” the prosecutors said in a statement.

The prosecutors have seized various assets belonging to the Tate brothers, including 15 plots of land and buildings in Ilfov, Prahova and Brasov counties, 15 luxury cars and 14 luxury watches.

They also seized various sums of money including 86,580 Romanian lei, 52,650 euros, 17,430 US dollars, 10,370 British pounds and 21 bitcoins allegedly worth 384,904 US dollars.

The Tate brothers became famous as social media influencers promoting a luxurious lifestyle and giving advice to men who want to be successful.

Andrew Tate was banned from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for promoting misogynistic messages inciting violence against women, but his videos clocked up over ten billion views on TikTok.

The brothers’ main business was video chat but they were also involved in cryptocurrency.

They settled in Romania several years ago after having problems with the British police for similar activities.
