I have been through this journey before, so I get to be actually frustrated about it.
IUnder a read more because im not subjecting y’all to this. Also: I should caveat I haven’t watched the episode cause I’m waiting till its on Netflix but I have watched way too many other episodes of Supernatural so I have a right to say these things.
TL;DR: I mean you all knew Cas’ confession was fucking bullshit and that SPN is...hm. But I’d like to actually express my genuine frustration, for a moment? I’m going to say things you already know, but I have too much knowledge of this show and too much stupid meta in my brain about a series I haven’t genuinely enjoyed for at least 5 years which makes this not just blandly bad but disgustingly insulting to me not even as a gay just as like. A writer?
Or, even shorter: Cas’ confession is just a Charlie Bradbury Speedrun
So. As some of you may know if, for some reason, you followed me back in 2013 (and till...okay fine 2015), I used to be, uh. Really into SPN. Really, I was into Destiel. Like, as in, I slogged through seasons 1-3 to get to Cas and am also really vulnerable to the Sunk Cost Fallacy and projecting onto characters. (I was in 8th grade in 2013, okay? Get off my back)
Also, because I monopolised use of the TV, I kind of...also got my parents into it? In a “this is silly but fun” kind of way.
Over time, critiques of the show from viewers, learning what queerbaiting is at all, fatigue with how long it was going, and also fatigue from how characters I enjoyed, like Rufus, or Crowley, or Ellen, or Jo, or Kevin, or Charlie, or Cas a few times, kept getting killed off. As time went on, it didn’t escape my notice that, aside from Cas, all of these characters fit one or more of the following criteria:
They were a woman
They were a person of color
Were Queer or Queer-coded in some way (listen Crowley was bad rep but at least Mark Sheppard actually kissed a man on screen)
I also just...generally got tired of the way the show treats women and sidelines people of color.
The final straw really came with Charlie’s death. It got us all excited, because she hadn’t been back in a bit! And it was interesting to see how reuniting with her dark side from Oz had changed her! (yeah remember the fucking Wizard of Oz storyline? The writers sure don’t!) And maybe she’d get developed! Because at this point, Charlie and the fairly good writing of her character was a major upside for the series! Charlie was cool, fun, gay, and morally complex in a way...none of the female characters had been before her, in large part because by definition, her relationship with the boys would always be platonic.
And then. Offscreen. She is violently murdered. For no damn good reason. Like, literally, her being brought back in this episode after fucking off to europe after having returned from fucking off to Oz seems to have filled two purposes in total.
The codex is solved (but Sam doesn’t know till next episode)
Charlie is dead, which means Dean can be angry, specifically at Sam, and kill more people because he’s the big bad this season.
That’s it. Two things. Twooooo whole reasons to do this episode. Whoopee.
But you didn’t come here for this, you came here for me to rip this reveal to shreds. Don’t worry, I’ll get there. What I want in your minds is that Supernatural already had a really good anddynamic queer character. And then they killed her off to make Dean angry. No, it doesn’t matter that they brought her back in season 13 or whatever. They made that decision.
After the rage this incited, I started realizing general flaws in the writing (I had probably already noticed them but now I was angry enough to complain.) Every conflict is born of Sam and Dean not communicating/taking on burdens and Dean being angry at Cas for reasons that ranged from good to ridiculous, but in a way that always went way too fucking long, (which...yes, does make the “you do it for love” gifs fucking hilarious). It didn’t help that seasons 11 and 12 were next, which meant Demon Dean and GOD’S FUCKING SISTER, plus the decision to resurrect Mary, which, while I do like her later scenes, as a season 12 finale it...well I’ll be honest it kinda sucked. It undercut the majority of the Winchester’s’ arcs and their slow and painful journey out of their father’s toxic vengeance quest and knowing Mary as a person when it’s too late to know her was one of the last semi-compelling grounders of the narrative.
By this point it was a hate-watch for my parents and I.
So then, I’m at college, and I’m not watching anymore cause I don’t have the motivation or access to Hulu to continue, and SPN is bad. I watch the Scooby Doo crossover when it comes out and my friend and I make fun of it, and we also continue making jokes about Dean and Cas and queerbaiting because we’re queer, but I don’t keep up. My Dad does though, so when I return, I watch some with the fam and lads. It’s even more tiring without context.
So flash forward to Quarantine, my sister, the only one with taste, has left, and we have run out of netflix to watch. So we return to the well, and seasons 13-14 are. I’m gonna say it. Bad. Really fucking bad. The cycle of bad communication continues, season 14 has like seven antagonists and the way it’s structured makes it so I literally cannot remember the timeline of a season I watched 3 months ago. Oh also, they have a queer coded cannibal snake monster for...well I guess Jack’s snake bud was cool but like. Huh wow it’s almost like these writers don’t handle queers well.
Our one saving grace is Cas, but he’s barely in any episodes, though I did note that his deal with the empty, being happy completely for one moment killing him, that struck me as “this has potential and I know they’re gonna half-ass it somehow.” Also Jack and Mary, but then oh...plot….The most compelling it gets is literally the finale.
But then, 3 days later, the first half of season 15 comes out on Netflix and it’s...actually kind of acceptable. The new character they give Jack’s actor is fun to watch him play until they make him evil. Exploring just how toxic Chuck can be gave the series direction again. The alternate future was genuinely scarring, and Eileen’s return was genuinely moving. Most of all, though, Cas got the opportunity to tell Dean no, that Dean was being unfair to him, had always been unfair to him, and he was sick of it. I had no illusions, I knew Destiel was never gonna happen, and Cas was gonna die, but giving him that bit of agency, letting Cas grow and be self-sufficient, and be angry with Dean not for existential reasons but interpersonal ones, was such a good sign for me, and Dean grew too! Dean fucking apologized for being horrible and Jensen Ackles had a...yknow what, ill give it to him, he had a good acting moment.
But the thing. About. The “I love you.”
Let’s take it in parts.
What was good: I’m gonna admit it, lads, “Wanting what I can’t have” - AS A LINE - is good, and, structurally, there is something to the Empty Deal that could have been an interesting aspect of Cas’ arc when it comes to self actualization and being on even footing with Dean. The problem is, this is Supernatural, and that arc only comes up when I bring it up because character study, even in bad media, is fun for me.
What was bad:
I mean. Like. All of it? All of it.
Okay. Fine. I’ll be specific.
Cas dies immediately when - possibly because- he is revealed as having feelings for Dean. They kill him as they queer him, that’s a Bury Your Gays Speedrun right there.
Like the least they could have done is have him mention it to someone in another scene or something to establish some romantic feelings on the part of canon a full episode beforehand. That would have been the literal bare minimum.
When Cas starts praising Dean, for some reason both the writing and Misha’s acting take a bit of a downswing (from...where it already was). Cas, whose most powerful moment this season was acknowledging that Dean’s anger at him is cruel and unfair, flatly praises him for doing everything out of love and it reads with a misunderstanding of both Dean as a character and Cas’ understanding of Dean. Dean is angry! VERY ANGRY! And it’s a problem he needs to work on and rarely does.
Talking out of my ass, a better speech would have been about how Dean is angry because of his love for Sam, family, and the people around him, how, for better or for worse, he can’t help but be angry on behalf of others, and that his journey of moving that tendency towards the better is what made Cas care so much. Guys this alteration to the metaphor took 2 minutes to write tops I am an Art History student and these are TV WRITERS WITH YEARS OF EXPERIENCE CAN YOU TELL THEYRE NOT TRYING YET?
A better speech would, of course, have come out of a better series. My point: this part was half-assed. Poorly written. Wow it’s almost like the series is also poorly written.
Also, Misha is the better actor of the three(***OF THE THREE), but his choices in that scene are jarringly out of character which. Makes the bad writing worse. It doesn’t help that they cut to the same fucking shot of Dean 3 times. The chemistry in that scene makes it feel so fucking hackneyed. Because it is.
This combines lead me to the point: (wait there was a point to this?)
As someone who does not have the luxury of watching this capsized ship fall into boiling seas from a distance, it is less insulting to me that they did this so last minute and then sent Cas to the Void than it is how they did it. They had ingredients for something that could have been compelling enough to me as a former fan of the show to think that they had put effort into it, that they had decided months, perhaps even years ago to do this, and had crafted a storyline around it. That this was an intentional decision they cared about. It wasn’t. It was barely even pandering, because it’s almost insultingly blatant.
SPN kinda proved to me that it didn’t care about queers when Charlie was killed off. It proved it to me again when Cas, not only died in confessing his love for Dean but did it in the weakest result of what could have been a surprisingly strong story.

Tumblr media
A/N- It’s my first time posting my writing on Tumblr but I guess better late than never huh, so here you go. More is in work so please anticipate a lot.
~Fay
Pairing: Yoongi x Reader
Genre: Fluff(lots of them), a drop of angst, Single Dad! AU, College! AU, Introvert! Yoongi, Tutor! Y/n
Word Count:1.7k
Synopsis: Yoongi found a basket left in front of his dorm room one day, and turns out it was his daughter, left alone crying. Puzzled and scared was an understatement. When his 4 semesters roommate Jimin left for his hometown, he was left with the last straw of help, turning to his physics tutor a.k.a friend-that-I-only-know-name-but-have-no-interest-in-knowing-more ; you.
Series: Masterlist ll Part 2 lI Part 3
                                           Part 1: Distress
                                            °•. ✿ .•°
“Why own a fucking iPhone when you can’t even answer a fucking call?! Dammit!”, he breathed hard after his nth tempt to connect the line failed again, his own Samsung device was clutched tightly in hand, knuckles turning white from the pressure. Yoongi had reached that point where smashing the black covered device in hand to the wall was considered a bliss, but he was saint enough to convince himself otherwise. Not when his phone was his gateway out of this mess; the only way maybe. So he tried again; redialing the numbers, manually even.
“I swear I’ll shred your trench coat to pieces, fucking im-“
The end of the line connected midway his constant ranting.
“Oh thank God above you finally answered! What took you so long?”
“Ever heard of Bio lecture Yoongi?”, the soft voice at the receiving end answers calmly, though Yoongi knew the person was beyond annoyed.
Who wouldn’t? Multiple spam in all form of communication, texts, kakaotalk, Instagram dm; at this point, Yoongi wanted to settle down to those damn pigeons. Even Yoongi would be out of his head if it happen to him, not that it will happen in the near future or anything.
“Don’t outsmart me woman, I’m not in the mood.”
“What is it Yoongi? You know I have class at this time of the day”
“I need your help”, his breath came out breathless than ever.
“Fuck if you’re asking about the same kinetic and potential energy chapter, I’m gonna rip all my nonexistent and existent  hair out of my-“
“Please…”
                                        ☾ ⋆・゚:⋆・゚:⠀ ⋆.:・゚ .: ⋆*・゚: .⋆ ☾
You swear it took you everything not to scream out of frustration watching your phone blow off during lecture period. Plus, the same ID that keeps popping up on the lock screen adds the bitter taste. Once your professor said the word ‘thank-‘, you were already making your way out of the hall, books not even properly shoved in bag and you were sure you left your favourite baby blue Sharpie highlighter behind.
Once in the hallway, you yanked your phone out of your sling bag and slide the screen harshly, already embracing yourself for the upcoming questions and constant groaning. What you did not expect is the person on the other side panting heavily, desperate. Yoongi sounds…distress. You were still processing his jumbled words but once the word ‘please’ escaped his mouth, you froze.
That word is so rare to even pass-through Yoongi’s head, what less say it. The last time you remembered the word ever exist in his sentence, was the day he consulted you at the cafeteria. Head down, full frown and shoulder slumped was some few giveaway you could collect which equals to one thing; failed test.
You were used to people asking you questions, since you were one of the few alphas in curriculum areas. But having Yoongi, the junior of Art and Music Department, Majoring in Music Production asking you to be a full-time physics tutor is…well, unexpected. You pity him, that poor boy seems like he couldn’t breathe for goodness sake, not until you lean back to your metal seats and smile softly, not forgetting to nod along while you utter the word that Yoongi seems dread to hear, ‘Sure, when?’
You swear his eyes shine like a good measure 60 watts light bulb. But that was long time ago, you lost track how long it was though you were sure it won’t be more than a year now, hearing that Yoongi is in serious problem was the main pushover to your muscle cells.
The thing is Yoongi never beg, ever. He never sounds that desperate even when he got 5 per cent on his last two physics quiz, he never sounds this discomfort.
“I’ll be there in five”.
                                          ☾ ⋆・゚:⋆・゚:⠀ ⋆.:・゚ .: ⋆*・゚: .⋆ ☾
You almost lost a footing while climbing the stairs up the boys’ dormitory, but you didn’t stall behind. Once room 103 is in front of you, you proceed to reach out to knock, when you heard an infant’s cry. You froze, chest rising in rapid beat from all the runnings.
“Yoongi?”
The crying was still there, you glance to check the neighbouring room number on the door, confirming that the room in front of you indeed belongs to Yoongi. So you crossed your heart and decided to knock, after all, you go with the concept YOLO. The door opened to reveal a hopelessly in despair Yoongi and a small woven basket on his dinner table, the moving mauve blanket shows that he wasn’t alone in the room, physically anyway.
Though the facts were right in front of your eyes, your mouth was sealed from emitting any word, what less sounds. You just stand there, at his doorstep, mouth agape. The cried were getting louder and the small tiny hands rising from the woven basket was doing nothing other than deepening the frown on Yoongi’s forehead.
“Come on Y/n, say something…”
Once his words registered in yourself, you took a last glance to Yoongi, before backing away into the hallway and sprint off.
“I need to go.”
“Y/n wait!”
No no no, this is bad. He thought Y/n would be different, thought she’ll understand but turns out, she ran away.
“Just…just like Hyoju.”, Yoongi whispers.
The cries from behind him gets louder and he snapped to look at the one sole thing that currently gives him a headache.
“Can you fucking shut it?!”
Yoongi growled but then retracted away from the dining table, against the wall and sliding down on his back until he reaches the floor. A sudden seed of fear bloom in his chest,
“What am I doing, am I already out of my mind? He’s just a baby, what does he even know?”, Yoongi sigh while standing and dragged himself to the basket, brushing along his slender fingers through the baby’s thin hair; his baby. The living being right in front of him is his own making, an act done without even considering about the effect. In this case, Yoongi can admit that he’s one of the few to be blame, maybe THE ONE to be blamed, fuck he was so drunk that night he can barely remember her, the mother of his child, Han Hyoju
The baby’s crying subsided a little as soon as Yoongi’s fingers make contact with the head, as if the touch of a 10-minutes-ago-newly known-father is proof that it’s safe for the little one.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what to do”, he whispered because it was a fact.
Yoongi was never a fan of kids, he was never a person-type, a typical signs of an introvert. His only source of never-ending help support is none other than his roommate, Dance Major Park Jimin. He helps Yoongi realize that age is just numbers, Yoongi; as a hyung, two years older, seeks more advice than he wants to admit. This whole two years living with Jimin, the topic of conversation never goes off if it didn’t start with Jimin encouraging Yoongi to get some sunlight on him to which Jimin always said, as Yoongi quoted “We don’t need a walking paperwhite corpse walking around campus, hyung. Go out and get some air would you?”.
It’s just that Jimin’s happy go lucky trait as well as his naturally warm smile is enough to blooms a friendship unlike Yoongi, who people would just point fingers at and said ‘cold, harsh and rock dead’ just by a mere look. Jimin don’t, however. That’s how Yoongi opened up a little to him. But now, that said roommate can’t help him, being on the other side of Korea, back in Busan his hometown for four days(though Yoongi doubt he won’t prolong it) limits Yoongi to ask for any favour to his friend. The kid in front of him will die of thirst first if he waits for Jimin. That’s what left him to his other only friend; Y/L/N Y/N.
But Yoongi could understand what you did, how you act. It’s because both Yoongi and you didn’t share more than three sentences, or on some lucky days short bickering outside of your tutoring hour. He only knows the basic things for someone to be an acquaintance; name, major and room number(because it slipped your mouth once when texting your roommate), but other than that, zero-knowledge. Jimin insisted that he asked more, to what Yoongi always dismiss, he’s too shy or scared, or maybe both.
Though Yoongi knew so much, he still labels you as a friend, which means a name listed in his life whereabouts, significant enough for him, not a nobody. He wanted to smile thinking that you’re indeed a friend to him, but it falters upon remembering you retreated away.
“I’m doomed…”
A sudden burst of the door jolted Yoongi, retracting his hand that once was playing with the baby hairs on his child’s head. You walk in, head high and face determined. You dropped off your school bag by the sofa, the usual place when you hang around Yoongi’s room after tutor session. Yoongi was overwhelmed, all his senses went numb, why did you return?
“Yoongi, does the baby comes with a bag, a pouch, anything other than the basket?”, you already made your way into the kitchen, but Yoongi still got a perfect view of your side profile from where he’s standing.
“Umm-“, Yoongi snapped out of his short trance and reached out for the mustard yellow beg that was originally in the same basket as his child when he first opens his door this morning, “Is this it?”
You glance over to him and nod, motioning him to hand it over. Once the bag is in your hand, you unzip it and pull out a baby bottle. Yoongi just watched in awe as you mixed baby formula, Yoongi assumed the grey paper bag you brought with you contained the powder formulae. He knows he shouldn’t be gawking like that, but he’s completely amazed, the fact that you came back had him racked his brain for a reason why, and now you’re going through all of this just to feed his kid. He felt small. Once the formula milk was done, you walked towards the living room and straight to the dining table, where the baby is. The red face of the baby shows just how long it had been crying.
‘Poor thing.’,  you thought. You put down the baby bottle on the table, hands reached out to swoop out the crying baby and puts the nuzzle near the mouth. After some effort, the baby takes in the nuzzle into his mouth and right away the rooms fell into a deep silence.
“Aww you poor thing, starving huh? It’s okay it’s okay. I got you.”,  you cooed.
Yoongi stood there dumbly, watching you feeding his own child, still confused but for sure, extremely grateful. Now if only explaining is easy enough.

Im sorry if these power asks get a bit annoying, please don't answer them if you're annoyed! Assuming they all completed their evolutions who would win in a fight: Sayara vs Aelia; Aelia vs Violet; Sayara vs Violet; Sayara vs Kyrina; Aelia vs Kyrina; Aelia vs Amalie. Thanks, and again, sorry if this got annoying.
I am not annoyed at all, I am loving this excuse to talk about battle royales. Are you kidding? This is what I LIVE for.
My one caveat here is that this is based on a neutral showdown--there’s some stuff that happens over the course of the series that changes how various people’s evolutions work, and a few characters (looking at you, sayara and kyrina... and tbh aelia....) have magical items and interfering factors that act as powerups or modifiers. I’m not factoring those into this, because almost all of them are major spoilers. No ghost powerups, no special necklaces, no legendary weapons, no sears, no curses, no cheating Paleness stuff, just the magic they’re born with.
Putting the battle royale under a readmore because it’s very long and I don’t want to eat anyone’s dash!
Anyways, Sayara vs Aelia depends on the arena. In a face-to-face open-field firefight, Aelia wins because of her speed and targeting skills. Sayara’s a Light elemental whose attacks tend to be very flashy and choreographed, and Aelia’s built for speed and accuracy and evasion, so she’ll dodge most of what Sayara throws at her in an open space. She’s just really freaking fast. Plus Sayara can tank through a lot of damage, but she doesn’t have much to defend her from a psychic attack like the ones all the Ravenharts are capable of using. If Elli brainpains her, Sayara stands a 50-50 chance of dropping her shields and being open for an attack. And Aelia’s strong enough to just keep on doing that, which would incapacitate Sayara pretty effectively.
In a confined space or an area with obstacles, the odds even out, and Sayara has a decent shot at winning. Sayara’s very creative and will supplement her subpar magical firepower with improvised weapons and distractions. Psychic attacks are most effective when you can see your target, so Elli can’t hit as hard if Sayara’s hiding, and Sayara will have places to go if she’s knocked out so she can recover. Plus, if you take away Aelia’s maneuvering space, then she can’t go nearly as fast. She’s agile but she has limits. Sayara could corner her and take her out, because she wouldn’t have anywhere to go, and her defense is pretty subpar.
Aelia vs Violet is the battle of the psychics. These two have similar specializations, similar abilities, and firm defenses against each other’s best attacks. Violet wins here, because of a few very specific skills, but it’ll be a long fight. They both have the ability to target the mind directly, aka the brainpain I mentioned above, and they’re both rigorously trained to resist the same. Their primary elements are in opposition to each other, with the potential to cancel each other out. Aelia specializes in enemy debuffs and fast, accurate attacks; Violet is a classic glass cannon sniper with some very interesting defensive skills.
The reason Violet wins here is because of two things: one, Violet has a skill that casts absolute darkness over an area. Within this darkness, it’s impossible for anyone to see anything, so Aelia wouldn’t be able to find Vi or move without being at risk. Two, Violet has a power I’ve nicknamed the “air shatter,” which literally creates a temporary black hole and completely destroys whatever matter is around it. This is fucking DEVASTATING when applied correctly. A bonus third thing, both girls can sense mental presences and sort of track each other in the dark, but Violet is much much better at it and can do this with more accuracy. Aelia hits moving targets easier, but she has to see them.
Aelia attacks significantly faster than Violet, whose powers have very long casting times and cooldowns. This is the reason this is an endurance match. If Elli interrupts Violet’s spellcasting, that forces Vi to restart, and Vi can teleport all over the place but every time she does that it prevents her from preparing another attack. The reason Aelia doesn’t win with this is that Aelia doesn’t have as much endurance as Violet, and if all Vi’s doing is teleporting around to dodge then Elli will wear down fast.
Sayara vs Violet is hands-down Violet’s win under normal circumstances. Sayara has really bad aim, and Violet’s good at hiding. Violet can be invisible for a lot longer than Sayara, and Vi is the empress of brainpain, and Vi can teleport... Sayara’s pretty screwed here. Her shields are great, but one good air shatter from Violet will rip one to shreds. Plus, Violet’s just a lot stronger in general. Without the powerups and items she hoards in canon, Sayara’s magic is the epitome of average, and Violet is one of the most OP fairies to have been born in centuries. It’s not a fair fight.
The only way Sayara could win this is if Violet makes a strategic error and lets Sayara get too close--Vi’s specialty is long-ranged area attacks, and if she fires off an air shatter against someone who’s right next to her, then she’s gonna get hit too. Sayara will charge her and try to tackle her to the ground and beat her up physically, and Violet weighs 90 pounds soaking wet, if you punch her she’s going down.
Sayara vs Kyrina is a win for Kyrina, probably, but it’s a very tough match. What you have here is a carefully-tailored unstoppable force vs immovable object situation. This is a fight that happens at least four or five times during the series, since Kyrina is one of the main antagonists... It’s a perfect pairing of specific skills and specific incompetences. I’ve built these two to balance each other out, with Kyrina slightly ahead. They’re actually very similar in terms of fight style, with Sayara leaning towards defense and Kyrina leaning towards DPS.
Kyrina hits hard. She hits very, very, VERY hard. As a fully-evolved adult, she is strong enough to completely vaporize a person with one solid lightning bolt. Frankly, she’s strong enough to do that by her 8th evolution. There are... multiple character deaths in book 3. Kyrina can and will one-shot Sayara if she lands a decent hit at the beginning of the fight. Ky also has pretty decent shields, but she’s a sloppy fighter who leaves her blind spot open. Ky’s weakness is her endurance--she tends to blow all her power on the first few hits, and her attacks will grow steadily weaker of the course of a fight as she loses stamina and energy.
Sayara can take a lot of hits, though. This is why she’s matched up against Kyrina in canon, because she has a level of bullheaded focus that makes her unbelievably tenacious even though her well of raw magic equates to less than half of Kyrina’s potential. Her shields are good enough to absorb maybe a hit or two from Ky before they’ll pop, and Sayara is focused enough to keep throwing up those shields until she literally runs out of power and burns out. She likes to dive in close to her enemies and hit them with as much force as she can muster, and then she’ll just keep doing it. Unlike most of the people you’ve sent her against today, Kyrina is not good at dodging, and will keep taking those hits and hitting back.
This is an endurance match, plain and simple, and Ky wins by outweighing Sayara with sheer brute force. With both girls unaugmented and using only their own magic, Ky’s more than twice as strong as Sayara, so it’s just not a fair contest. Sayara gives her a run for her money, but if Ky’s lightning doesn’t bring her down, then she’ll bring herself down by burning through so much magic that she literally rips her soul apart. There’s a pattern to these Sayara matchups, and it’s that Sayara’s totally screwed in 90% of situations, because she relies on her legendary weapon and Fianora’s help (and a lot of blind luck) to win her canon fights.
Aelia vs Kyrina is another toss-up. This is a fight where Kyrina’s other abilities come into play besides her lightning--when she fights against Sayara, she’s gonna mimic Sayara’s tactics and they’ll go at each other with brute force punches. Against Aelia, Kyrina will start to use her Storm powers with a little more creativity. She has the potential for a lot of arena control--she loves using lightning because it’s flashy and loud, but her aura is built for earthbending. If there aren’t obstacles already, then Kyrina will create some, by trying to hit Aelia with spikes of stone. Her aim is awful, but eventually this is gonna narrow down Aelia’s avenues of escape, and then Elli won’t be able to dodge Kyrina’s OP attacks.
Aelia can’t use much psychic stuff against Kyrina, because when Kyrina gets brainpained her instinct is to lash out as hard as she can in every direction, and Elli can’t dodge when there’s nowhere to go. Plus she’s fast, but she lacks a lot of defense and like I said Kyrina is crazy strong. My instinct is to say that Kyrina wins here, but Aelia might have a decent chance, since she is definitely fast. I’m unclear right now about how much of these gals’ powers are their own, and how much is coming from [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS].
Both of these characters have several major factors influencing how their magic works in canon, and almost all of those factors are Major Spoilers. In canon, these characters fight twice over the course of the series. The first time, Kyrina beats Aelia handily. The second time, Aelia totally destroys Kyrina. Neither of these is technically a fair fight by anyone’s definitions.
Aelia vs Amalie could be a lot like Aelia vs Violet, but because of the way Amalie’s magic works, she does not have any defenses against psychic magic. Amalie is physically incapable of resisting psychic attacks with any more skill than your average nonpowered human. That makes this matchup firmly Aelia’s win.
Amalie’s skillset looks very similar to Violet’s. She has the same arena-darkening ability, she can use the same air shatter black hole spell (and she’s actually stronger with that specific move than Violet is), and she also uses a weird form of corrupted lightning-like magic that does what’s basically necrotic damage. Unfortunately, though, she cannot use ANY Illusion magic, so she’s mostly helpless against Aelia’s psychic abilities. She meditates a lot, and she’s smart, so she’s tougher to brainpain than average, but Aelia’s powerful. By the end of her evolutions, Elli should be well-trained to crush Amalie’s mind.
If we disregard Aelia’s psychic abilities, then Amalie might win this fight, because she does have a number of area attacks. Aelia’s faster, but won’t hold up against a Darkness-fueled attack. Aelia’s psychic magic is the only reason this is an easy fight.
Thank you so much for this ask, which wound up being super long! I love talking about my fairies and their abilities, because I’m really proud of how they balance each other out despite being ridiculously strong.
An honorable mention, since we’re on the topic: Lavender could defeat every single one of these characters in a surprise attack, because she uses material magic, and her sleep-dust bombs are impossible to resist unless you see them coming and set them on fire before you breathe in any dust. She doesn’t need to be strong. If you don’t see her coming, which you won’t, then you’re doomed.
