Headcanon: John knows how to salsa dance, but he learned it from a childhood friend, and he never needed it for CIA use, so Harold is unaware until a number draws them to a fiesta in which dancing is the only way to protect her sufficiently.
Harold becomes increasingly concerned that John will flub this up, because he refused to go to the beginner salsa dance class the night before.
And then at the fiesta, the dance begins and Harold's at the edge of his seat out of nerves, but John makes eye contact through the camera he knows Finch is watching through, winks, and just absolutely lets loose.

Dating John Reese Would Include...
Tumblr media
John would always have your back, and his protective instincts would be on high alert whenever you're together.
You'd feel safe and secure knowing he's willing to go to great lengths to keep you out of harm's way.
John's enigmatic personality would keep you intrigued and wanting to learn more about his past.
He'd have that irresistible, brooding charm that draws you in.
Dates with John would often involve thrilling, action-packed adventures as he handles cases and threats.
You might find yourselves in unexpected situations, but you'd navigate them together.
John would be fiercely loyal to you, and you'd know he'd always stand by your side.
His dedication to your well-being would be unwavering, also kinda scary o-o
Beneath the stoic exterior, John would open up to you about his thoughts and feelings, sharing his vulnerabilities.
Your conversations would be meaningful and thought-provoking.
You'd be amazed by John's exceptional combat and survival skills, which he'd occasionally demonstrate to keep you safe.
He'd teach you a thing or two about self-defense, making you feel empowered.
Amidst all the action, you'd cherish the quiet moments when John lets his guard down.
Cuddling on the couch or enjoying a peaceful evening together would be equally special.
I feel like this man would the best cuddles ever.
You'd become part of his close-knit circle, getting to know Finch, Shaw, and other team members.
Together, you'd work on solving cases and helping those in need.
John would respect your privacy and boundaries, understanding that he can be secretive.
You'd appreciate his ability to balance his past and present while making room for you in his life.
Sometimes, words wouldn't be necessary to convey your feelings for each other.
You'd share an unspoken connection that transcends ordinary relationships.
Okay, but like a relationship with John would be terrifying but also perfect at the same time?

Rewatching person of interest while I do some work and I forgot how funny some things are. John’s dry humor is so great.
Also it’s not slipping my notice how purposeful Finch is with EVERYTHING. Like he had tabs on John for who knows how long. Probably envisioned working with him for forever. I wonder what he felt when he was finally talking to him face to face

“bobby is a technical advisor on a firefighter tv show”
911abc has the ability to do the funniest thing imaginable —— the actors on that tv show are direct carbon copies of the 118 crew…just slightly changed
OR they cast huge names in Hollywood to fill these roles. like the director played by Reese Witherspoon calls cuts and the camera swoops left and we see John David Washington & Austin Butler

Person of Interest for the unpopular opinions ask game?
Well there's a LOT I like about Person of Interest, so consider this a kind of 'greatest hits' overview:
Thematically, the show is coherent and powerful; most impressively, it evolves its themes and takes them to unexpected places while still maintaining a consistent thematic throughline, and it manages to do this in often quite poetic ways. Consider, for instance, how Reese's statement to Jessica from 1.03 "Mission Creep" that we're all alone in the end and "no one's coming to save you" is both echoed and refuted in the series finale, with Reese making a deal with the Machine to save Harold and the Machine's final monologue about how "everyone dies alone" but keeping someone's memory alive keeps them alive in turn. Or how the genesis of Harold's obsession with computers was a desire to make a machine that could serve as a kind of external memory for his father with dementia, and how that vision is realized in a way he never could have imagined with the Machine surveilling & predicting people so much that the dead essentially live on inside her code, to the point where the Machine can serve as a kind of 'digital interface' for Root and extension of her brain after her physical death. It's just plain good writing.
Jim Caviezel is...Jim Caviezel, but the other main actors on the show are all fantastic, and a lot of the supporting/one-off actors are also really strong.
Sameen Shaw is one of my favorite fictional characters ever, and I appreciate that PoI chose to tell a story about a prominent, sympathetic character (a woman of color, no less) with ASPD who goes on a legitimate character journey without ever having to become "normal" or learn empathy.
Root is also an incredible character -- she's a prophet, she's a killer for hire, she's a transhumanist, she's a hacker, she's a lesbian, she hates marriage, she's a Shakespearean fool, she's a god in the making -- and Amy Acker gives a tour-de-force performance in the role. I also like her ending! I know a lot of people don't and to be fair it aired at pretty much the worst time possible, but I think her dying to save Harold and essentially 'becoming' the Machine was a beautiful and fitting ending for her character.
Harold Finch is so bitchy and so funny. King. <3
Joss Carter and Lionel Fusco are a great (literal) buddy cop duo, and I also really enjoy Carter's relationships with Elias and Reese, and Fusco's relationships with Shaw and Root.
I even have affection for John Reese, based mostly on his relationships with the rest of the core cast & the occasional moments we get of him being incredibly gentle with the number of the week.
And to be fair, while you can tell that Jim Caviezel can't act, you can't tell that he is literally reading cue cards the entire time, so, someone did some magic editing work there.
The Machine is so well-characterized despite never actually speaking until the last four episodes of the show, and I love her lots. And her taking on Root's voice/persona in the last four episodes was narratively brilliant (and was yet another showcase of Amy Acker's acting abilities).
The Root/Shaw relationship is one of my favorite romances ever, and is probably my favorite gay romance ever. I particularly admire the show's refusal to force them to neatly fit into normative ideas of what a romance looks like; I find that fanfiction of them as a pair rarely does the relationship justice compared to the complexity the show itself presents. I like that in the end, they do get a happy ending, of sorts; they were never going to get married and have a white picket fence and 2.5 kids, and Root was never going to make it out of the fight alive, but Shaw survives and adopts Bear and has the Machine-as-Root in her ear, and that seems like a pretty good ending to me, all things considered. Also, the Machine telling Shaw in the finale that Root loved her because of who she was, not despite it, was beautiful, and "she wanted you to know that if you were a shape, you'd be a straight line. An arrow," is maybe the most romantic line ever spoken on television.
"return 0" is one of the best series finales out there, with an amazing and startlingly touching final sequence.
"If-Then-Else" is one of the best episodes of television ever made, and should be studied by anyone who wants to write for TV.
In general I think Person of Interest was very good at creating episodes, which is an art that the streaming era of TV is slowly but surely eating away at.
Ramin Djawadi's score for the show is incredible and iconic. I'm particularly fond of Root's theme and the Machine's theme.
The show also uses preexisting musical pieces to great effect. Some standouts to me are "Future Starts Slow" in 2x16, "Fortune Days" in 4x11, "The Day the World Went Away" in 5x10, and "Metamorphosis One" in 5x13.

Finally got around to watching the Terminator films. We've seen 1–3 so far and I fucking love them. Spoilers in my rave below the cut.
The Terminator
Yeah, it's old and the score is cheap & doesn't rise like a modern audience expects and some of the dialogue is unintentionally silly, but the pacing of this film is mind-blowingly perfect and Linda Hamilton is just the coolest person on the planet. (Shout out to the invisible hand of Gale Anne Hurd, who surely did a lot here.)
The early character work is intensely 80s but I fell in love with Sarah and her buddies so quickly. Their chemistry is brilliant.
I love the stakes of the story and how succinctly they're explained. A lifetime of struggle and a near-impossible victory could be undone in an instant. Hhhh. We don't even need to see much of the future — its impact is evident in Reese (who I thought was Rhys, btw, so I died when it was revealed Reese was his surname and his first name was KYLE) and how battered and war-wearied he is.
The props and prosthetics are about as bad as you'd expect, but the team knew it and mitigated that by keeping those shots short. I loved the stop-motion terminator regardless. It's kinda charming and the final fight is so good I was carried away by the action.
Terminator 2
Jim is of the opinion this is the best Terminator film, so I went into it primed to be contrary, naturally. But I liked it!
I'm sad time and pop culture has removed the big reveal at the start; I can only imagine how fckn awesome it must have been to watch a contemporary screening of this film and experience the heel-face turn unspoiled.
The T-1000 is just plain cool, and the old CGI was clearly such a labour of love (and money) that it stands up remarkably well.
I love love the film's focus on what future sight really does to you, but I kinda hate it when characters go crazy, so I didn't much enjoy Sarah's early scenes.
I didn't much enjoy the sniper sequence either.
But in an unusual turn... I liked the kid actor and his interaction with the Terminator. The slang sounds even more ridiculous now than I imagine it did then, but it's fun.
As a result, I died at the end. When his arm was ripped off, I piped up all "omg, but they have another one for him in John's backpack!" Apparently Jim watched me from that point onwards and saw the moment my little heart broke, lmfao.
Terminator 3
I know this film gets a lot of hate, and I agree it skews too silly/kiddy in places, but the T-X was a really good active threat and seemed even more focused on her target than the T-1000. The boob joke was the only miss with her, in my opinion.
I enjoyed the film, liked the way it explored the impact of a supposed victory on John and then spanked him with that original fate/choices quote.
Kate was pretty cool but underutilized towards the end; I felt they failed to capitalise on the idea that she sent this Terminator back after it had killed her fckn husband. Not to understate how brilliant the final twist was to watch, but I wanted more Kate in the scene just before it; that final showdown shouldn't have been solely between Terminators, which 2 had clearly recognised.
I wish John's move with the T-800 in the hangar hadn't worked. Honestly it felt like Arnie had a hero clause or something; clearly the most impactful thing to happen there was a mirror of things to come, his attachment to a robot leading to his demise. Kate could have rescued him somehow and then have that image in her damn brain for decades until he's terminated in the future. I just... Yeah. Your main villain can control machines and she only hacks the good Terminator for three minutes? When there's so much emotional material to tap into with the betrayal? Boooo.
Overall I think 3 ties thematically into the other two films, so I like it and I'm unimpressed they've tried to hide it from the world. Might watch Dark Fate next and see how it fares as a replacement.

John Reese Having A Crush On You Would Include...
Tumblr media
John's normally stoic demeanor softening whenever he's around you.
He would pay extra attention to your safety and well-being, often discreetly watching over you from a distance.
Unexpected acts of kindness, like bringing you coffee or your favorite snack without you even asking.
John becoming more protective, both in terms of physical safety and emotional support.
Subtle but frequent eye contact that lingers just a little longer than necessary.
Finding excuses to spend time with you, whether it's helping you with a task or just striking up conversations.
He would go on a mission just so he could be around you.
John being a great listener, always eager to hear what you have to say and remembering even the smallest details of your conversations.
His body language betraying his feelings, with nervous gestures like running a hand through his hair or fidgeting when he's near you.
John making an effort to learn more about your interests and hobbies, even if they're not his own.
A touch of jealousy when he sees you with other people, though he'd try to hide it.
Subtle compliments and praises, often given in a low, genuine tone.
A willingness to open up and share more about his own life and past with you.
John's undying loyalty and dedication to keeping you safe, no matter what.
Man's would kill for you, literally.
Someone touches you? Dead. Someone looks at you? Dead. Hotel? Trivago.
But in all seriousness, John would start a bar fight just because another man touched you.
The lingering looks this man would give you when you're not looking.
He's literally to die for ;-;

saw your tags on an ask from a couple months back where you referenced an au/headcanon where actually, warrick's not dead, just in witness protection, & i wonder if you'd care to elaborate at all because that's also one of my fave (although self-indulgent) au/headcanons
so back in the day I honestly used to play around with the idea, often writing fics where nick and warrick got trapped but reunited, warrick explaining that he was put into witness protection and I think it was within the past two(?) years? maybe three or four now where I had a dream that I do want to turn into a fic of a similar thing happening, nick and warrick finding themselves in danger and then finding each other--idk if anybody has seen person of interest but warrick was basically pulling a john reese and walking down a street at night with a rocket launcher that he was firing at cars coming at him and in one of those cars was nick, tied up and both nick and warrick had beards and teased each other about it lol, and I think I had a larger fic-universe plan to kinda rewrite things, mostly to expand on ships a bit more but the big central point of the fic would be that warrick lives, and sage warns nick that with warrick living there's now a loss that needs to be fulfilled. i think I've also talked about/thought about nick being shot along warrick in for gedda and both of them living from it
and idk, while I do think they handled the death well and didn't just forget about it, constantly reminding us in seasons afterwards and one of the final flashes nick has in his final episode on his way out is that first moment we see of him and warrick in the pilot, and it was an easy way to allow some members of the team to leave when maybe they wouldn't have, and of course gives a lot of angsty fuel for fics BUT
it's just so much more fun and satisfying to imagine warrick being able to return, maybe not immediately but someday--hell another dream i've had is nick, sara, greg and warrick all reuniting for the revival series lol and it could offer up some good angst, with the team having mourned warrick's death and vice versa, warrick's been without friends, without family and even missed the early years of his son's life and having to cope with that, and all of them coping with each other and the changes that happened and the threat that while gone, is not forgotten and maybe adds to their drive as CSIs or maybe also questioning (like Nick often did with the corruptions)
that and well, warrick is one of the best characters on the show
