WoL Questions/Answers - DND Stats!
Ooooh, I love this question!
If I were to roll her stats at the beginning of ARR (as someone gifted with Hydaelyn's blessing of light, but also someone with amnesia in a place she is wholly unfamiliar with), the stat order would fall thus:
WIS > STR > CON > DEX > CHA > INT
I am... going to ramble about this incessantly, now:
Wisdom (15)
Aeryn is naturally observant, and her quiet nature likewise helps her pick up on the more minute details in the people and circumstances around her that others might miss. She would be perceptive to subtle changes in her environment or in the mood of those present. I think a high wisdom modifier is essential to her ability to adapt so quickly to her unique situation and learn (by absorption) what she needs to know to function successfully in her unfamiliar surroundings.
Strength (14)
Though her appearance would suggest otherwise, she demonstrates (often to her OWN surprise) a level of strength that certainly surpasses the average person - even those with significant training. She's not breaking any doors off their hinges or accidentally shattering dishware, of course. But she does seem to wield weaponry or perform other more strenuous tasks with far more ease than her meager stature would suggest her capable of. (The blessing of light would further bolster this stat in certain combat situations, of course.)
Constitution (12)
Again, I feel the blessing of light would bolster Aeryn's constitution in battle; but early ARR Aeryn is also under quite a bit of mental and emotional stress given the circumstances of her arrival, and though she demonstrates a surprising level of strength for her size, I like to think she has about as much stamina as the average person. She bounces back from injuries more quickly than most would expect, and she seems resistant to sickness (almost unnaturally so), but she does grow weary and need breaks at a more-or-less average rate.
Dexterity (10)
This girl's not tripping over her own feet, and she has decent, basic reflexes. But she's not winning any awards with her archery right away and really does practice, nigh relentlessly, to become even minimally competent at wielding the bow. She has a bit more of a natural affinity with the lance, but she still spends many, many evenings in the lancers' guild sparring in Ywain to practicing her footwork and get better at dodging blows.
Charisma (8)
Early ARR Aeryn comes across as reticent, dull, and (dependent on the viewer's perception) perhaps even rude. She doesn't smile often, and she spends more time silently observing than speaking. When she does try to speak, her words shudder out, quiet and nervous - sometimes she even croaks or loses her voice. On top of that, she's an outsider and has been assigned the role of adventurer in Gridania, a place renowned for its inhospitable nature toward both. She has very little ability to speak up and defend herself and comes to rely on those who naturally see beyond the veil of this low stat to understand more of the person that might someday grow through it.
Intelligence (8)
Aeryn is not stupid. But anyone who interacts with her in ARR beyond a chance encounter would notice right off the bat that she isn't well-versed in what most would consider very basic concepts. She often seems to lacks information that would be common knowledge for even Eorzean children. When the Scions lapse into game exposition to explain things like aspected aether and how retainers work, that is 100% canon-necessary in Aeryn's case, because she doesn't know any of those things. Though this stat will grow over time as she becomes more comfortable with the knowledge base of the Source - and becomes more of a critical thinker - it will always remain her lowest stat.
All that now being said, let me give what I believe the breakdown would be as of where I currently am in the game (right after Shadowbringers MSQ):
DEX (18) > WIS (18) > CON (16) > STR (15) > CHA (14) > INT (12)
It was fun reversing some of these stats based on my canon for her in-game! Aeryn would have put so very much effort into becoming more dexterous as a result of practicing with the bow and lance. She will also have gotten just a tiny bit stronger, naturally, though of course Hydaelyn's gift still accounts for the majority of her strength by bolstering it in key moments. For wisdom, her natural instinct and ability to clearly read situations remains (and has grown minimally stronger). As a now long-time adventurer, she does not tire out as quickly with physical exertion, growing her constitution. She's better able to communicate these days, particularly with those she deems close - and she has a reputation to speak for her in most situations where she is less comfortable speaking up, still granting her a boost to charisma. Intelligence-wise, she knows what she needs to get by. She's not winning any awards, of course - but she has surrounded herself with experts on various subject matters who can help guide her with their intellect when needed.
(I didn't want any of her stats to be full 20s, yet. She still has some growing to do, after all, and a lot more story to get through.)
I think I'm done being a complete dork about this, now. But it was a fun little exercise! Highly recommended to other DND/FFXIV fans! \o/

Go zorbing in Rotorua
If tumbling down a hill inside a big hamster ball isnât your concept of an excellent time, I donât assume I need to know you.

The next put up was sponsored by WeXchange.
A New Zealand Bucket Listing
You might need just lately seen a swathe of bucket checklist posts right here on Aussie on the Highway.
My China bucket checklist, South Korea bucket checklist, and Australia bucket checklist (along with my 1,000 merchandise bucket checklist) are among the many hottest posts on the location they usuallyâre additionally a few of my favorite posts to write down.
Whereas Iâd like to sometime sit down and write an Final New Zealand Bucket Listing, for now, I assumed Iâd spotlight fifteen superb experiences in New Zealand that I feel ought to be added to any New Zealand itinerary.

Hike Franz Josef Glacier
Palms down the most effective experiences Iâve had in all of my travels, standing atop Franz Josef Glacier in 2010 was an completely surreal expertise.
Whereas itâs removed from the one place on earth the place youâll be able to hike on these slow-moving mountains of ice, New Zealandâs Franz Josef Glacier has the excellence of being one in all solely two glaciers on earth the place youâll be able to expertise it in a temperate local weather.
The glacier actually involves a halt a brief hike from a steamy part of forest â an unbreaking wave of stable ice that defies expectation.
Whereas itâs not to doable to hike up onto the glacier from the bottom as I did in 2010, heli-hikes nonetheless assist you to expertise the fun of standing atop of a fading drive of nature.
Franz Josef village itself is a beautiful, however distant location. Be sure you deliver some money, as I didnât spot any ATMs after I was there.
Curious? Learn extra about my expertise climbing Franz Josef Glacier.

Cruise on Milford Sound
Generally described because the Eighth Surprise of the World (however what isnât?), Milford Sound is without doubt one of the most surreal and delightful landscapes youâll ever come throughout in your travels.
Technically not a sound (itâs a fjord), this portion of the Fjordlands Nationwide Park is all deep, darkish waters, towering cliffs, and dew-bejeweled crops.
The expertise of cruising Milford Sound is one in all utter serenity, with playful seals and inquisitive dolphins doing little to detract from the general air of quiet reverence that blankets the area.
Itâs a really outstanding expertise.

Kayak in Abel Tasman Nationwide Park
One which I wasnât lucky sufficient to sort out myself in 2010, kayaking by way of picturesque Abel Tasman Nationwide Park is one expertise Iâm dying to examine off my New Zealand bucket checklist.
Whether or not itâs a cruisy half-day tour or a a number of day exploration, the expertise of taking your time with one in all New Zealandâs most stunning parks is one each traveler ought to hunt down.
For me, the five-day tour seems like one of the simplest ways to see all of it with out feeling rushed. One for my subsequent journey!

Go bungee leaping or canyon swinging in Queenstown
Stunning Queenstown received my coronary heart after I visited in 2010, however I wasnât fortunate sufficient to incorporate any of the acute sports activities for which the mountain city is known.
Whereas bungee leaping is an iconic New Zealand exercise, the canyon swing is one thing extra my velocity. Thereâs simply one thing counter-intuitive about going in the direction of the earth head first. Name me loopy.
Whereas bungee leaping and different adrenaline inducing pursuits can be found internationally, youâll discover few safer (or extra stunning) spots than New Zealand.

Fall in love with Christchurch
Itâs laborious to place a finger on what itâs that makes Christchurch such a stupendous metropolis.
Townâs resilience within the face of a number of disastrous earthquakes is clearly an enormous a part of its attraction, however thereâs simply an aura in regards to the city that makes it really feel instantly like a house away from residence.
Itâs a inexperienced, breezy metropolis with a relaxed vibe that simply begs you to place up your ft and loosen up for a number of days. Thereâs a purpose Christchurch is one in all my favorite cities.

Witness the Aurora Australis
The Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) are clearly extra well-known, however the Southern Lights arenât any much less spectacular.
Seen from each southern Australia and southern New Zealand, there ae a nuber of notable locations to view the Southern Lights in New Zealand.
Itâs not likely one thing youâll be able to plan your journey round, however when youâve obtained the time, why not arrange camp someplace within the south and see what youâll be able to see?

Eat and cycle the Tasman Nice Style Path in Nelson
Nelson featured on my 10-day New Zealand itinerary, however it was only a stopover between Franz Josef Glacier and flying to Rotorua the next morning.
Even so, Iâve fond recollections of attending the Nelson Carols by Candlelight and taking part in Section 10 into the wee hours with one other backpacking couple.
In researching for this put up I got here throughout the Nice Style Path, a scrumptious (pun supposed) mixture of biking, scrumptious meals, breweries, and vineyards.
The 174km loop might sound a bit formidable to some, however I like the concept of getting out and stretching my legs (and my abdomen) in such a stunning nook of the world.

Blackwater Rafting at Waitomo
One other spotlight of my 2010 journey, seeing Waitomoâs well-known glow worms whereas additionally having fun with the fun of some pitch black tubing was a thrill I cherish to today.
Waitomo is known for its caves stuffed with glittering glow worms, however blackwater rafting in Waitomo combines the expertise with the fun of navigating pitch black caves and tunnels stuffed with icy water and precarious drops.
Itâs a totally exhilarating expertise!

Go to Hobbiton
Nerd that Iâm, I grew up studying JRR Tolkienâs seminal work of fiction.
My teen years and early twenties have been spent obsessing over Peter Jacksonâs devoted translation of the e-book to the large display screen.
Because of this, paying a go to to quaint Hobbiton on New Zealandâs North Island is one thing I used to be gutted to overlook out on doing in 2010.
If seeing this tiny nook of The Shire isnât sufficient for you, there are total Lord of the Rings excursions that take you to different iconic filming places reminiscent of Weathertop, Edoras, and even Mount Doom.

Attend an All Blacks recreation
Whether or not or not youâre a fan of the fifteen a facet recreation is irrelevant â there are few extra iconic New Zealand experiences that witnessing the haka earlier than the All Blacks inevitably dismantle whichever unlucky crew has paid them a go to.
Rugby is a faith in New Zealand, and the nationwide crew are one of many powerhouses of the game.
Attending a recreation, even when you donât actually perceive it, is an expertise in cultural immersion that I like to recommend in any nation I go to.

Trek in Fjordlands Nationwide Park
The Fjordlands Nationwide Park is residence to greater than âsimplyâ the completely transfixing Milford Sound, with a community of breathtaking mountain climbing trails crisscrossing your complete park.
Whether or not you go for a guided tour otherwise you need to sort out the wilderness your self on a multi-day hike, Fjordlands presents up unbelievable landscapes with a wholesome serving of ice chilly rain and wind.
Itâs positively not for the faint of coronary heart!

Discover Auckland
Whereas not the nationâs capital, Auckland is New Zealandâs largest metropolis and a logical beginning and/or ending level when visiting the Land of the Lengthy White Cloud.
Town itself is residence to numerous sights together with the Auckland Museum and the jaw-dropping Sky Tower, however itâs as a base from which to discover close by sights such because the Bay of Islands, Waitomo (see above), or taking a cruise out on the Tasman Sea.

Skydive the Bay of Islands
Talking of the Bay of Islands, it is without doubt one of the most wanted skydive locations within the southern hemisphere.
What higher approach to soak up the spectacular chain of islands than from 16,000 ft?
If throwing your self out of a airplane isnât your cup of tea, the Bay of Islands is a subtropical slice of paradise good for seaside escapes, scuba diving, whale-watching, kayaking, tenting, and way more.
Itâs one other one Iâm dying to examine off my to-do checklist.

Expertise a Maori hangi
Maori tradition is a captivating a part of New Zealandâs cultural tapestry, and getting a style of that (pun supposed) at a Maori hangi is a implausible technique to sate each your curiousity and your urge for food.
