China-India trade on rise despite chill in bilateral ties, crosses $57 billion in H1 - Net4News

The growth marks an increase of 22.8 per cent from the pre-epidemic level in 2019. (Representative image) BEIJING: The China-India bilateral trade in the first half of the year totalled $57.48 billion, up 62.7 per cent year on year, perhaps the highest in recent years amid the Ladakh impasse and the Covid-19 pandemic, according to data released by China's Customs. Though Indian exports to China picked up with 69.6 per cent year on year increase, the trade deficit, a structural problem for India for long, climbed to 55.6 per cent. According to data released by China's Customs, India's exports to China reached $14.724 billion, up 69.6 per cent year on year in the first six months and India's imports from China amounted to $42.755 billion, up 60.4 per cent. China's overall trade in the first half of the year rose by 27.1 per cent year on year to 18.07 trillion yuan (about $2.79 trillion) in the first six months, according to the customs data. The growth marks an increase of 22.8 per cent from the pre-epidemic level in 2019. Exports jumped 28.1 per cent from a year earlier, while imports climbed 25.9 per cent in yuan terms. The trade deficit for the first six months of the year stood at $28.03 billion, up 55.6 per cent year on year, according to official sources. But the trade figures were regarded as significant as India-China relations were bogged down with the standoff between the two militaries at eastern Ladakh since May last year. While the Covid-19 second wave has resulted in a major increase in China's exports, especially the oxygen concentrators, ventilators, monitors, and medical materials and drugs, India's exports to China were boosted by the increase in iron ore, steel, aluminium and copper. From January to April this year, China imported a total of 20.28 million tonnes of iron ore from India, an increase of nearly 66 per cent from the same period of last year, accounting for nearly 90 per cent of India's total iron ore export, the state-run Global Times reported. It quoted the data released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry stating that China had exported more than 26,000 ventilators and oxygen generators, more than 15,000 monitors, and nearly 3,800 tonnes of medical materials and drugs to India in April. Last year the India-China trade totalled to $77.67 billion, which was lower than the $85.47 billion in 2019. FacebookTwitterLinkedinEMail Source link Read the full article

Changing Business in Times of Global Economic and Political Unrest
With growing International resentment against severe Chinese Aggression with already present economic crisis due to the corona virus pandemic, the whole business ecosystem has had to deal with a severe shock.
Cross border trade with China is on a decline worldwide and supply chains especially of manufacturing goods have been badly disrupted. Tariffs and duties round the globe for Chinese products are on the rise. Even the astute advocators of free trade and open economic policy have been forced to suggest alternative economic policies. This uncertainty has a significant impact upon economic conditions, such as the cost of inputs (work, resources) and customer behavior. But it can also threaten business continuity: the simple ability for firms to carry out their daily activities. Operations may have to stop because goods can no longer cross the frontiers or because service provision becomes impossible.
Globalization is giving way to patriotism and a worldwide nationalization movement is on the upswing. Globally Chinese goods are being shunned and in some cases even boycotted. Many cases have been witnessed involving big companies leaving mainland China and shifting their industrial infrastructure facilities to nations with better international rapport and cheaper labor such as India, Sri Lanka, Taiwan etc. A German Shoe company recently made a decision to shift their entire production facility to India in the wake of the recent developments.
But the scenario for small and medium scale enterprises is different. These businesses don't always have a ready to go to liquidity pool to make drastic business decisions. Those businesses that are heavily reliant on Chinese Imports are thus likely feeling the pinch under these recent times of stress. Thus especially for these businesses, the methodologies need to evolve. It's time for businesses to re-think and re-strategize, Its time for them to adapt!
The founders of one such Small / Medium business enterprise by the name RawOpulence, when faced with this challenge, decided they had to completely revamp their business strategy or else risk losing the plot.
Doubling up on their initial strategy of re-invigorating the traditional Indian Ceramic art to incorporate modern designs, they started working double shifts, shifting their entire manufacturing base locally. They believe that traditional Indian pottery and ceramic art gives them the perfect design malleability to bring forth entirely new never-ever seen before designs to the luxury home-interiors marketplace. They believe they will very soon catch the eye of global customers with a penchant for authentic design sense who are looking for highly affordable prices but don't want to be too dependent upon Chinese goods for home decor.
Now that's what we call an Inspirational Business Story.
Support a small business and associated artisans in this hour of need. Every small gesture counts. These artisans create magic through their hands. They need our love and support now, more than ever.
