Deoria Tal

About

Deorital is a lake surrounded with heavily wooded, lush green forest and occasionally snow covered mountains(click to know the name) at an altitude of 7800 feet.  It is approximately 3km from the village of Sari and Mastura. It is near Ukhimath, a small town and a Hindu pilgrimage site in Rudraprayag Uttarakhand. The view around the lake is known for its aesthetic view. There are trekking routes from Deoria Tal to Tungnath, which is mainly used for night camping, jungle trekking etc.

According to Hindu Mythology, the Devas Bathed in this lake, hence the name. The Lake is also referred in Puranas by wandering Hindu medicants or sadhus. Local people believe that the lake is the place where the pandavas were asked queries by Yaksha. It is also believed that the lake was built by Bhima, the strongest among the Pandavas.

How To Reach

The Most prefered way of travelling are bikes. To reach Deoriatal one has to reach sari village in Ukhimath. Ukhimath is approximately 192 km from Rishikesh. There are many small villages on the way. Some prominent sites on the way are Devprayag, Rudraprayag etc. The travelling time from Rishikesh to Sari is approximately 7 hrs. If you are feeling too adventurous you can take a bus or jeep from Rishikesh to Shrinagar, from Shrinagar you can again take a bus or jeep till rudraprayag and from there you can again take a bus or jeep till ukhimath. From there jeeps are available for Ukhimath to reach sari via Mastura village. From sari village you have to trek on a steep climb of well defined rocky trail. Once you reach the lake there are countless places to explore nearby.

More Information

There are few shops that sell tea and snacks, but they close very soon. You can find some places which provide cheap accommodation. The life around any place from Rishikesh To Deoriatal stops by 9 o'clock or before. You can find local food available at small places with limited choices. Hot Beverages(Tea, coffee ect) and Maggi is easily available at almost every shop. Before you consider taking the trip, you should have interest in long bike rides, trekking, camping and the tolerance to live with limited resources. Climbers with any condition like heart problem, high blood pressure, asthma, epilepsy etc. should consider taking the trek(any way the whole place provides something for every one). Nevertheless , the view of the Himalyas from the peak is amazing and worth every effort you make. You can also find Camping facility on rental basis and dinner at the lake site, also the locals are very cooperating.
