Unveiling Tawang: A Journey through History and Myth in the Eastern Himalayas.

Nestled in the mountains of the Eastern Himalayas, Tawang gets its name from the founding story of the Tawang monastery. This goes back to the 17th century, when the 5th Dalai Lama, Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso, instructed Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso to establish a new monastery in the region. It is said that, to help fix the perimeter of this massive monastery, the Dalai Lama even gave Merak Lama a ball of yarn, the length of which was to form the perimeter of the monastery.

A directive was issued for the local populace to help with this grand task. However, Merak Lama was struggling to settle on a location for the same, and this led him to go into meditation in a cave, asking for divine guidance in his task.

When he came out of the cave, he found that his horse had run away. On setting out to find his horse, he found it atop Tana Mandekhang Mountain.

This very location was chosen for what is today the biggest monastery in India. The name Tawang translates to "chosen by the horse", referring to Merak Lamas horse.

पहले समझिए लद्दाख़ में चीन की दिक्कत क्या है?

 ये ताजा झड़प लद्दाख़ की गलवान घाटी में हुई | ये घाटी है तो लद्दाख में लेकिन अक्साई चिन के ब���ुत करीब है | कभी अक्साई चिन भारत का बड़ा हिस्सा हुआ करता था और भारत को रेशम मार्ग से जोड़ने का एक रास्ता था | अक्साई चिन’ एक तुर्की शब्द है जिसका मतलब है ‘सफ़ेद पथरीली घाटी का रेगिस्तान’ लेकिन चीनी सरकार इस इलाके पर अपना कब्जा जताने के लिए ‘चिन’ का मतलब निकाला ‘चीन का सफ़ेद रेगिस्तान’ है | कुल मिलाकर ये इलाका पथरीले पठारों का रेगिस्तान है |

चीन ने 50 के दशक में तिब्बत पर क़ब्ज़ा कर लिया | तिब्बती विद्रोहियों पर नियंत्रण रखने के लिए चीन ने यहां चुपचाप एक सड़क बना ली | ये सड़क भारत के इलाके में थी | चुपचाप सड़क बन गई और चाचा नेहरू की सरकार को पता नहीं चला | जब पता चला हंगामा होना स्वाभाविक था | नतीजा 1962 के भारत-चीन युद्ध के रूप में सामने आया | इस युद्ध के बाद चीन की तरफ से जो ‘वास्तविक नियंत्रण रेखा’ LAC खींची गई जो जो कश्मीर क्षेत्र के लद्दाख को अक्साई चिन से अलग करती है | यानी अक्साई चिन से हम हमेशा के लिए अलग हो गए | लेकिन भारत जानता है कि ये इलाका हमारे लिए सामरिक रूप से बेहद महत्वपूर्ण हैं क्योंकि ये पाकिस्तान, चीन के शिनजियांग और लद्दाख़ की सीमा के साथ लगा हुआ है |

इस ऐतिहासिक विवाद के नजरिए मौजूदा हालात को समझ‌िए

अक्साई चिन के सबसे करीब भारत का दौलत बेग ओल्डी यानी DBO सेक्टर है | यानी भारतीय सीमा का अंतिम इलाका | यहां तक पहुंचने के लिए हमारे पास अब तक कोई सड़क नहीं थी | केवल हेलीकाप्टर से ही हमारे सैनिक यहां अपनी सीमा की चौकी तक आ जा सकते थे | बीआरओ पिछले साल यहां एक शानदार सड़क बनाई | इस सड़क का नाम दरबूक-श्योक-डीबीओ रोड है, जिसे सब-सेक्टर नॉर्थ रोड भी कहा जाता है | ये एक ऑल-वेदर रोड है, जो वास्तविक नियंत्रण रेखा के करीब है। यह लद्दाख की राजधानी लेह को श्योक के गांवों से होकर चीन सीमा के पास दौलत बेग ओल्डी (डीबीओ) पोस्ट से जोड़ती है। ये सड़क 2000 और 2019 के बीच बन कर तैयार हुई | जो चीन को लगातार चुभ रही है |

दो कारणों से हमारे लिए सामरिक रूप से अहम हैं यह सड़क

# इस सड़क लेह लद्धाख को DBO सेक्टर के अंतिम छोर को जोड़ती है |

# सड़क बनने से सेना की इस इलाके में पेट्रोलिंग आसान हो गई है क्योंकि LAC के दूसरी तरफ चीनी चार साल पहले ही एक सड़क बना चुका है।

लेकिन इस दुर्गम जगह पर श्योक नदी के किनारे-किनारे हमारे लिए सड़क बनाना मुश्किल काम था क्योंकि गर्मियों में बर्फ पिघलने पर इस नदी का जलस्तर बढ़ जाता और सड़क बार बार टूट जाती है | जब से मोदी की सरकार आई तब से इस काम में और तेजी आ गई | क्योंकि बीआरओ ने रणनीति बदली और कमजोर स्थानों पर नदी के पश्चिमी किनारे पर पहाड़ों की दीवारों पर सड़क का निर्माण करना शुरू किया | इसके लिए पहाड़ के एक हिस्से को उडाया गया फिर इसके साथ सड़क बनाई गई | जैसा हिमाचल में आप कई जगह इस तरह की सड़क देख सकते हैं | पिछले साल ये सड़क चालू भी हो गई | जाहिर है चीन को ये सब अच्छा नहीं लग रहा | क्योंकि उसे लग रहा है मोदी सरकार अक्साई चिन पर उसी तरह नजर गड़ा रही है जैसे उसकी नजर पाकिस्तान के POK पर है |

अब अगले चरण में भारत LAC से जोड़ने वाली छोटी-छोटी कोई 66 सड़कें बना रहा है जो इस मुख्य सड़क से जुड़ती है | ताकि वक्त पड़ने पर वह फौरन LAC तक पहुंच सके | जाहिर है ये चीन के लिए चिन्ता का विषय है | इसलिए उसने गलवान घाटी में LAC के किनारे ही सड़क और नदी के पार दूसरी तरफ के अपने टेंट लगा कर न केवल अस्‍थायी चौकियां बना लीं बल्कि भारत को धमकाने और काम रोकने के लिए सैन्य साजो सामान भी जमा कर लिए | नतीजतन भारत को भी अपनी तरफ यही सब करना पड़ा | अब दोनों देश की फौजें आमने सामने हैं |

सोमवार की रात चीनी फौजी LAC से थोड़ा आगे बढ़ने लगे तो ये झड़प हुई और मारपीट में हमारे पैट्रोल पॉइंट 14 के कई सैनिक शहीद हो गए | जबकि उनकी तरफ से भी चीनी सैनिक मारे गए | इस मारपीट में हथियारों का इस्तेमाल नहीं हुआ | लाठी डंडों पर कटीले तार बांध कर ही उन्हें हथियारों की तरह इस्तेमाल किया गया | शारीरिक कद काठी में हमारे सैनिक चीनियों से ज्यादा मजबूत हैं इसलिए मुझे उम्मीद है उनका नुकसान ज्यादा हुआ होगा | बुरी तरह से पिटने के बाद चीनी सैनिक LAC में अपनी साइड की तरफ चले गए | लेकिन दोनों तरफ से सैनिकों में जबरदस्त गुस्सा है | उधर भारत सरकार पहले ही अपना स्टैंड क्लीयर कर चुकी है कि गलवान घाटी समेत पूरे लद्दाख इलाके में भारत अपने बुनियादी ढाँचे का काम जारी रहेगा |तो ये है लद्दाख में भारत-चीन विवाद की राम कहानी | अब आप ही बताइए हम कहां गलत हैं?

Rezang La War Memorial.. 18th Nov 1962, a fierce battle took place at Rezang La pass between India and China. The Charlie Coy of 114 bravemen under Major Shaitan Singh repulsed attacks of seven human waves. Despite heavy shelling, the regiment refused to give up and sacrificed instead of retreating. The Charlie Coy regiment was given the highest decoration of gallantry.
