Song Review: Nick Lowe & Los Straightjackets - “Went to a Party”

Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets “Went to a Party” and the 1950s broke out.

The throwback original describes a scene that resembles an indoor safari and lends the title to Low & the Jackets’ forthcoming (Sept. 13) joint, Indoor Safari.

I told myself I wouldn’t stay late/just put a face ’round the door/next time I looked it was comin’ on quarter to 4/and my feet were getting sore, Lowe sings.

There’s nothing modern about “Went to a Party.” And that’s the charm of the surf guitar, the early rock ‘n’ roll melodies and backgrounds and the mindless fun of the cut.

One thing which never ceases to be a novelty is that IRL people don't tend to like me very much, because I am just a bit of an eccentric, which is an especially damning condition when you're of the female persuasion. I don't actually expect anybody to like me or indeed tolerate me, so it is an interesting thing to have a captive audience on a Tumblr blog or AO3. This is very much classically why I sought out the Internet when I was around eleven because believe it or not it actually used to be a reprieve.

This is why I am not worried at all about shipping Knightfall or being a bit out there in my general character. Pretty par for the course frankly.

I had a dream I was watching a commercial for Pepsi where they were branding ‘pipp’ which is a small drink of Pepsi. It featured Pomplamoose and the statistic that 18 out of 20 people liked their music when they played a bit of it, just like most people like to take a pipp.
