Meet the Small Railway Engines - Peckett
Brookehill Colliery No. 1, Known today as Peckett, is a W6 0-4-0 saddle tank engine built by Peckett & Sons LTD. In Bristol in 1926. He was then sent to Brookehill Colliery, where he worked with another member of his class until 1973, when the colliery closed down. We then managed to purchase him as our first steam locomotive to operate passenger trains for us. He was in quite the sorry state when he arrived, but he was operable and pulled through for us long enough for us to get on our feet.
Peckett can be quite rude and blunt due to his industrial background, but he has a heart of gold somewhere in that boiler of his, as he has proven on multiple occasions. He is also rather determined and refuses to give up, no matter what. Despite the numerous customer service incidents he has caused over the years with his poor manners and colourful vocabulary, we're happy to have him on our railway all the same.
