Can you save Grandma’s home from her ex’s fiery revenge in time? Basegame Only, PC-And-Console-Friendly, Room-By-Room Renovation and Redecoration gameplay challenge inspired by popular mobile games like Lily’s Garden and Homescapes.
That’s a hecking long title lol. Yes, this is a “sequel” to the Inherited Manor Challenge [link]
Your grandma was getting a little tired of her style, and your parents were getting tired of you living in their basement. The perfect solution? Move in with her for a few months and help her revamp her massive Mediterranean mansion, and maybe get your life together. Upon arrival, you notice things feel a little off, and the smell of smoke lingers in the air. Despite locked doors and nosey neighbors, her revenge-driven ex had broken in. He’d never forgiven her for moving away to study art, and saw this as the perfect chance to get even before they both died. Dark, sure, but so is stealing an old lady’s lifetime collection of art and valuables. He burned anything he couldn’t move, and now the home is lost. . . or is it? Can you find a way to restore and redecorate the home before time runs out?
Save file: http://simfileshare.net/folder/150567/
Gallery ID: sahmandbean Lot title: Grandma’s Mediterranean
Rules:
Start with one elder Sim, one young adult Sim, and $500. Set lifespan to long if playing with the save file, or normal if playing from the gallery. There is already a family in the save file and on the gallery, but you can use whoever you want as long as they are an elder grandparent/young adult grandchild. For gallery users, to place the household I made search for Maria and Elisa on the gallery.
Grandma’s Pension Alternative Rule: if you are new to challenges, and want a bit of an easier version, you can enact Grandma’s Pension. Every Tuesday, use ctrl+shift+c on pc or hold down the four shoulder buttons on console to bring up the cheat menu, type rosebud, and hit enter. This 1k pension will help you complete the challenge.
You may work through the Rooms in any order, but you must complete each one before moving on to the next. If you start in the kitchen, you must finish the kitchen before moving on to the dining room.
A Room is considered complete when all the mess is cleaned, appliances repaired, furniture restored or replaced, and at least 5 new decorative items are placed. Anything in the Decorations section of the build menu counts. These can be bought in build/buy, scavenged, gifts, or be created by your Sims. Once you restore an item, you can replace it with a new version of the same item (couch for couch, skill for skill, clutter for clutter), but the whole Room must be cleaned and restored before adding any new items (furniture, decor, wallpaper, etc). What counts as a Room? Any space separated by a door or arch, with a few exceptions. Bathrooms, short halls, and closets are counted as part of whatever room they are attached to. The pantry counts as part of the kitchen, and the entryway counts as part of the main hall. These exceptions are to make the game more evenly challenging across all floors and spaces. See Room Maps [link] for clarification.
For each floor you complete, you can add one lot trait of your choosing. Once you complete a floor, you can remodel it and sell the original items and not have to replace them with the same item type. The front patios and garden space count as part of the first floor, and the pool area counts as part of the main floor.
You can earn money in any way except for grandma having a job and cheats. You can lie, cheat, and steal in-game (or get a job, sell collectables, paint, etc), but no game command cheats like rosebud and motherlode (except for the Grandma’s Pension rule). You can remove the Off the Grid lot trait whenever you want, but be aware you will be paying more in bills!
You must pay bills and keep the repo man away! If you do lose an item to the repo man, use this [link] to see a map of each room. You must replace that item in order for the room to count as complete.
You can marry, adopt pets, have kids, start clubs, etc.
If you play on console or otherwise cannot use the save file, please note that the house will not place with burned items. This is why you have to play with normal lifespan, but follow all other rules. It makes things a little more even without any confusing handicaps.
The challenge is won when you have restored and redecorated the home, the lot challenge is removed, and grandma is alive. You may use any in-game method to keep her going, including bringing her back from the dead, but no mods or cheats. If you upload your finished renovation to the gallery, please use the hashtag #theroombyroomchallenge so we can all appreciate your talent! Same hashtag if you want to share it on Instagram, tumblr, etc. No pack or CC limits for renovations, as long as you follow the rules above.
If you have more questions, you can check out the FAQs from version one of this Room by Room challenge here [link] Otherwise, leave them in the comments here or on reddit and I will respond as quickly as I can. I will make a new FAQ post in a few days with whatever questions seem to come up the most.
Enjoy! Once again, I was beyond floored with the responses on my last challenge, so I really hope you all enjoy this one, as well. I can’t thank you enough for all of the positive feedback on that post.

I love a bit of chaos so I have a few different challenges going that I can switch between depending on what I’m feeling. So here’s a glimpse into a mashup of the 100 Baby Challenge & the Inherited Manor Challenge.
Harley Christiansen LOVES old houses, so when she’s given the opportunity to travel around the world and renovate abandoned homes, she jumps at the chance. She’ll live at each site and get to call it home while she works, and the Historical Simciety has promised to take care of the property bills. 💸Here’s where our story begins.
An abandoned chateau in Selvadorada is Harley’s first project. After spending the first week hiking through the jungle around her new home, she discovered a new love for archaeology which she intends to pursue on the side. 🔍 When she’s not working on renovations or uncovering ancient artifacts, Harley loves streaming her favorite video games and hanging out with locals.
One such evening resulted in Harley’s firstborn son, Akira, and her decision to fill the homes she worked on with a beautiful, loving family.
Meet the Christiansens.

Baby Count: 5
Akira (Mortimer Goth)
Xylo (Don Lothario)
Leo & River (Xavier Mitchell)
Blaze (Eric Lewis)

Inherited Manor Challenge FAQ
Does How do I download and place the save file?
Follow the link in the original challenge post or in the menu. Once you have downloaded the save file, place it directly in your saves folder by following this file path: documents > electronic arts > Sims 4 > saves. Make sure it doesn’t match any of the other save files, and if it does, change one of the digits. Launch your game and you should see a new save file titled Inherited Manor Challenge.
Where do I start?
Wherever you want! The greenhouse is probably going to be the easiest choice, but the servant quarters would give the advantage of a whole liveable space relatively quickly.
How do I randomly remove a lot challenge?
When you complete a Room, you get to randomly remove a lot challenge. Go into Build mode and use the lot details panel in the top left hand corner of your screen to access the lot traits and challenges. Count how many lot challenges are left, and use a random number generator to see which one gets the boot. Simply disable the challenge and go back into live mode.
How do I restore burned furniture?
If you click on the furniture, you will have the option to replace it. You can also follow the Civil Designer career path from Eco Lifestyle and unlock and manufacture the Smog Vacuum, which has the power to restore burned objects.
My Sim cleans everything, not just the current room! What should I do?
Remember, the more time you spend cleaning other rooms, the less time you have to make money, which is very important for this challenge. I recommend turning off autonomy and keeping an eye on your Sim, and try to keep cleaning in the current room as much as possible to keep with the spirit of the challenge.
Bust the Dust is making my Sim sick and stressed! Can I turn it off?
I don’t have this kit, and kinda forgot about it, so you can disable the dust guilt-free! There will still be plenty of cleaning to do, and you can re-enable it once you have some Rooms cleaned up.
Does the Sim have to be brand new?
No, but the only way for the build to place properly is by using the save file. If you want to use a sim from one of your current saves, you will either have to upload them to your library and place them in the house, or turn off aging when you place the build from the gallery and use a throwaway sim to burn the lot in preparation.
How do I get in the house? It’s so expensive! And how do I then start with exactly 500 simoleons?
When you are moving in your sim, press ctrl+shift+c and enter freerealestate on in the cheats text box. Once you have moved in, type testingcheats on and hit enter, then money 500 and enter. Use ctrl+shift+c again to close the cheats text box.
Is this the Heir to Ruins challenge?
Nope. I didn’t even know that existed until I posted this challenge on Reddit. It is similar, but I think it’s different enough to be a stand-alone, unique challenge.
How do I clean up the garden?
After your sim clears all the trash, the rest of the decorative objects can be removed in Build mode.
Can I sell collectibles I find on the property?
Yes! The only things off-limits when it comes to making money are 1) cheats and 2) selling items from the Rooms before the floor is complete.
Can I make one?
Absolutely. Once I get a better idea of how this and future similar challenges will fit together and run, I will make a list of criteria for anyone who wants to make an “official” build for the challenge. For now, just go crazy with fireworks and enjoy the process.

I'm going to try and beat my own challenge on stream. I haven't streamed in a while (I think almost a year), but I am looking forward to this. If it goes well, maybe I can make it a regular thing. But yeah, can I actually complete the Inherited Manor Challenge? Friday at 9:00pm EST (ish)

INHERITED MANOR CHALLENGE: A new gameplay challenge based off popular mobile games like Lily's Garden and Homescapes. Can you save the family manor?
Rules:
Oh no! After an unforeseen life event has left you homeless, alone, and penniless, you are forced to seek the help of your eccentric grandmother. Delighted with your text, she offers you the family manor on one condition: you must save it! Somehow news of this arrangement reaches your cousin, who, in a fit of rage, trashes the place and nearly burns your grandmother alive. Your grandma hides $500 and the keys in the mailbox as she makes her escape to the Bahamas, and your cousin is nowhere to be found. Now it’s just you against this manor and the world.
Start with one young adult Sim and $500.
You may work through the rooms in any order, but you must complete each one before moving on to the next. If you start in the kitchen, you must finish the kitchen before moving on to the dining room.
A “big-R” Room is considered complete when all the mess is cleaned, appliances repaired, and furniture restored or replaced. Once you restore an item, you can replace it with a new version of the same item (couch for couch, skill for skill, clutter for clutter), but the whole Room must be finished before adding any new items (tv, decor, etc). What counts as a Room? Any space separated by a door, with the following exceptions: the servants quarters count as one Room. Halls and stairwells do not count as individual Rooms but must be complete in order for the floor to be finished. Bathrooms and closets are counted as part of whatever room they are attached to. The butler’s pantry counts as part of the kitchen. These exceptions are to make the game more evenly challenging across all floors and spaces.
Every Room you finish earns one (randomly chosen) removed lot challenge. For each floor you complete, you can add one lot trait of your choosing. Once you complete a floor, you can remodel it and sell the original items and not have to replace them with the same item type.
The garden and the greenhouse are also two Rooms that must be cleaned before the challenge is complete, but do not count as a floor to earn a lot trait. For example, you must clean up the garden before adding livestock or solar panels. The yard is a mess, and after you clean up the trash you can go into build mode to delete or replace the debug and build/buy plants.
You can earn money however you want EXCEPT FOR selling any items from the house and cheats. You can sell items and replace them with something cheaper, but don’t clean out a room just to progress more quickly. That is shady and would make your family's ancestral ghosts sad :( (there are many ghosts on the lot from all the sims that burned alive while I was prepping the challenge, lol oops) Lottery tickets, gambling, borrowing from other sims, and other in-game shenanigans are, of course, allowed.
You must pay bills and keep the repo man away!
You can marry, adopt pets, have kids, start clubs, etc.
You win the challenge when the manor is restored. If you remodel, I’d love to see what you do with it. Use the hashtag #inheritedmanorchallenge on the gallery or other social media platforms, and check out what others have done!
I am not aware of any challenges like this currently. If you know of any, please let me know! YouTuber Deligracy has a similarly themed Let’s Play, but that’s the closest thing I’m aware of. I don’t want any trouble with claiming I invented something if another Simmer has already created this challenge. Also, I plan to make more. What would a good umbrella term for these challenges be? They won’t all be manors, or burned, or have the same backstory, etc, so I need a good umbrella term and hashtag.
To get the build with all the damage, follow this link to the save file: http://simfileshare.net/folder/149793/
You need to have all of the packs I used to get the lot to place correctly. Why? Game bugs over which I have no control. Place the save file directly in your save folder, and the saved game will magically appear in your game. How fun! If you download the build from the gallery, or do not have all of the packs, it will place with all of the damaged furniture restored.
To find the build on the gallery:
Lot title: Inherited Manor Challenge
Gallery ID: sahmandbean
Packs needed:
All expansions, up to and including Cottage Living
Journey to Batuu
Parenthood
Nifty Knitting
Tiny Living
Laundry Day
New challenges are coming soon(ish: This build took around 30 hours). I do plan on making a basegame version next.
