250 Word Reflection - Internship Project
The internship project has been quite an interesting one as I’ve never considered the future possibilities of a career in animation until I started this.
I think one great part about it was creating my personal database of different animation studios as I was able to look up loads of different studios around me – many whom I had no clue about prior. So this really expanded my studio knowledge and I actually found that a lot of short films I had watched were produced by these studios which only furthered my interest in knowing about their process.
The next step was approaching them and at first this made me quite nervous and I wanted to be very formal and professional, so I emailed the studios by details provided on their websites. However, I found this was not a very effective method of contact as I would either get a very basic and bland response from their communications team or I wouldn’t hear back from them at all!
At this point I wanted to take matters into my own hands and so I started utilising the most fantastic tool – social media. This was amazing as it meant I could connect with and directly contact artists, animators and directors who worked at these companies in a much more laid back and friendly approach and I was much more likely to get a response (I did!). This was absolutely fantastic as it meant I was conversating with professionals and learning so much about how they got to where they are now as well as what they do in their current roles at studios.
I think in terms of this project the only thing I could do to improve is continue to message people and not be afraid of not getting responses as that’s part of the process and how networking and making connections is formed.

250 Word Reflection for Internship Project
Although I wasn't the most successful in getting many responses (because if I'm being frank I didn't contact that many people) the one good response I got was enough to make up for all those that didn't respond. I managed to arrange a video call with very a very inspirational artist by the name of Leo Crane. I truly learnt so much in our video call that I haven't even heard of before as I explain in more detail in my presentation. In short, I realised that in reality, these artists and animators are not these untouchable demi gods of art or at the very least, if they act like it they are probably not worth contacting in the first place, but they are approachable and social people who like having a casual talk about their work and things in the industry. Leo specifically, encouraged me to contact him again in the future which I found really nice as I can't imagine how busy he must be. This experience definitely gave me the push to contact more artists in the future, especially as I approach graduating and perhaps establishing some contacts in the field and making more animation friends!

Internship Project At first I had no idea who to contact, but then I remembered a Youtuber I watch sometimes and decided I could give it a try. I was not expecting for him to answer at all, I am glad that I was wrong. His name is Howard Wimshurst and he is a freelance animator and filmmaker. He was very helpfull and gave me great advice. Some things I wasn't aware of, like using my own name, and other things I did know but until he said it I didn't give it much importance, for example, being more active on social media. He also gave great advice on building a portfolio and be productive on creating animations. I am aware that one of my questions was not very understandable, even I would not know what I meant with that question if I wasn't the one who wrote it, but now I am aware that I should be more direct even if it means it is a long question. I also took a long time to get back at him which was not a good impression of me but I'm glad I thanked him for the time he took to answer me.

Companies I found Interesting:
Blinkink Studio- Tramways HouseUnit 1, 377 Camden Road,Holloway, N7 0SH
Passion Studio-  33-34 RATHBONE PLACE LONDON, W1T1JN
Bluezoo-  Chesterfield House, 385 Euston Road London NW1 3AU United Kingdom
Freelancer I follow on Instagram:
Carles_ dalmau
Remusandkiki
Hamish Steele
art_of_emfitz
Jimek_draws
M_layzell
My research into companies/ freelancers and the people that replied back too me:
Passion studio director- Anna Malin Mantzaris is a Swedish Animation Director based in London, she has over  50 international awards on her short film enough (one of my favourite animation production by her) Mantzaris was very easy to get in contact with, plus I really was interested in her stop motion design and films, especially the action in her films is pretty realistic and relatable, which is why I am glad she responded so fast to my question.
Blinkink Studio director-  Remus Buznea & Kyriaki Kyriakou are both based in London and originally starting up students. The relationship they have as co-workers, really made me wanted to contact them, although it took a much longer waiting time to get a response, I was presently surprise that they did, because I was really interested in how they started from students and defiantly their animation and character design skills. I was eager to learn a lot from them and was really glad they responded.
My thought of the whole experience:
The two studio I deiced to look into was something I found Interesting and Creative with their Films, most of Passion Studio directors I got in contact with Inspired me with their characters design aesthetics. fortunately I got a really nice reply my a person I found amazing. Finally after contacting many directors and freelancers, and having no luck with other director I really hoped to get in contact with, I’m still very glad to have gotten a reply.

On the second meeting that we had he showed me how to remove the background for the pictures i took. Using the Automate option in Photoshop. He also taught me how to create a bigger depth of field in after effects. The third time we talked was on phone and we spoke about soviet animation and how can i manage to create films in 2D that look as traditional as possible. I really loved his style and he gave me a lots of courage since 2D animation was something i thought i wouldn’t be able to do. He always tries to use as much paper and pen rather than digital. And this is something i want to do as well.

Internship Self Reflection
I really enjoyed this project, as I found reaching out to different professionals in the industry very helpful and I will continue to reach out to professionals about information in the future.
I found the information that was given was very informative and I feel that moving forward into an area such as design and concept art would be something I'm very interested in and think due to my skillset this area would be my strongest point.
The key points I found that were of important from the professionals advice was to include progression of my work, like works in progress and the process of creating ideas. One key point from Gavin Strange was to show my work on multiple platforms as people may be interested in my work, and also to not to wait to be asked for opportunities and share and show my work to as many people as I can in order to find opportunities that would interest me! He also made the point of how you should show your strongest skill set first when creating a portfolio and having easy to find contact details is also key.
From my conversation with Francesco Mazza, I found the key points he made for a visual development portfolio was to add small and interest details that people tend to miss out, like prop designs and progression sketches and other small things which led me to my decisions and design your portfolio around the company you want to work for, in this case, BlueZoo would be looking for a style and understanding of child animation and not adult themed animations. Also, show your love and care for what you create, such as stylisation if applying for a visual development position.
Due to the Corona Virus is was not possible to apply for any internships at this time, however I did contemplate applying for an internship with Blue Zoo, but due to my hand in date of August 20th and my workload I deemed it wouldn't be possible. Im hoping to apply to a range of internships next year in the summer after I graduate in order to get some experience In the workplace before applying for other roles.

Overview - Netflix Animation Virtual Speaker Series
I am really happy I decided to sign up for these zoom calls.
It was really inspiring hearing all the different experiences and advice. Most of the speakers were people that worked on my favorite shows and films I grew up watching, which was an happy coincidence, and a big mood booster.
Throughout all sessions there were some things they all would say, so this is like a little sum up of all the sessions:
- Do what makes you happy because your passion shows through, bring your style, not what you think they want;
- Accept everything you can when you start out on the industry and never stop learning, also don’t be afraid to ask for advice and to participate;
- A portfolio with less work but with greater quality  will always be better than one with more but not so good projects;
- Have different portfolios depending on the job type;
- Go to festivals, try to network and don’t be shy, most of animation people are introverts so they get you;
- Work on your kindness and communication.

Happy days in Zalika Land as Esther Morales from Cartoon Saloon has gotten back to me on Instagram! Not only did she get back to me, but she responded in great detail giving me so much information about how she got into character design as well as what it’s like working at Cartoon Saloon and more importantly why she enjoys it :D
 It’s so vital for me as a student to hear about industry professional’s journey’s and personally I find Esther to be extremely inspiring with her fantastic character design process. I’m really happy about this one and looking forward to getting a response back to her soon :D Also, Esther is so friendly and laid back making her super approachable! I’m sure there are many other epic industry professionals alike out there I just have to look for them and building up these connections will be very useful for future opportunities, internships and employment :p

This was relay that I got from one of the directors I contacted at Passion Studio: Anna Malin Mantzaris from email. and directors from Blinkink: Remus Buznea & Kyriaki Kyriakou from Instagram. after researching my chosen directors I then started to asked them all a few question regrading their experience as an animator.
