ryan grew up in portland oregon, with an older sister and two older brothers. her parents were both artists, so creativity was always encouraged in her house. ryan took up painting at a young age, which her parents were thrilled about. she would go to galleries and shows with her father, it was something the two really bonded over.

at a young age ryan was diagnosed with severe anxiety. she suffers from really bad panic attacks. she’s been on medication and going to therapy for years, but like with most mental illnesses, she still has her bad days. she’s a generally nervous person anyways, always thinking a mile a minute. her brain never slows down, and sometimes she has a hard time just shutting up and relaxing.

by the time ryan was in high school all of her siblings were in or already out of college. she would go to parties with her older sister and sneak out after curfew. mostly little things that most teenagers do, but it only took one time of her parents catching her for them to really crack down on it. 

ryan felt suffocated at home. she saw all of her older siblings out doing these fun and crazy things, and that’s what she wanted to be doing. at the time she didn’t understand why her parents were being so unfair, but now she knows they only wanted to keep her safe. 

she still snuck out and went out on the weekends, but was always very smart about it. ryan knew how to make sure her parents believed whatever she was telling them, no questions asked.

she knew from the time she was a kid that she wanted to be a nurse. her best friend growing up’s mom was a nurse and she always shared the coolest stories with the two girls. ryan wanted to help people like she did, she’s always been very compassionate. so that’s what she went to college for. it seemed more practical than painting for a living, though she still enjoys the hobby a lot.

ready to get away from her hometown and her overbearing parents, ryan loved college. she worked hard for her grades, but left plenty of time for fun parties and spring break trips with her friends. and after graduating, she got a job at her local hospital. 

a couple of months ago her father passed away from a heart attack, and it was really hard on ryan. she was very much her father’s daughter and the two of them were really close, so she’s still grieving. after losing her dad she wanted to get as far away from her hometown as possible. but she settled on ivywood.

ryan only moved to ivywood a couple of months ago. she got offered a shift lead position at the town’s hospital so she took it, excited to actually get away and start a life for herself.

ryan is almost always working. she hardly ever has any free time which has made it hard to date and get into a serious relationship. that and she’s very awkward. if she thinks someone is attractive she gets really anxious and 9 out of 10 times makes a fool of herself.

she’s very much a bargain hunter and couponer. ryan loves a good deal.

Growing up, Ryan had a good life. Coming from money and living in the Upper East side has its perks. He had loving parents, and a good family, but Ryan wasn’t one to make great choices. He thought life was made to have fun and not responsibility. He constantly sneaked out of the house, and party. As his magic became to develop, he would use it for his own advantage. He would rather use it as a party trick than to practice and learn. 

He liked the attention he received. During college, Ryan would continue to party and not have a care in the world. If he had a gift, why put restrictions on it? His favorite party trick was getting people high just by using magic. Once college was over, his mother had enough with his ways. She wanted him to clean up his act.

So, she sent Ryan overseas to stay with his cousin, Elijah. She knew Elijah was smart and responsible, and she hoped that he would keep Ryan in check, but also get him to be more responsible and practice his magic. 

Ryan understands he needs to do better, but he continues to get bored and continues to find entertainment by continuing to drink and party. He is, however, having more respect for his cousin as they start to grow close.
