10 Fun and Easy Electronic Circuit Projects for Beginners
Check out the interesting electronics journey via these beginner projects! Learn about potentiometers, LED blinkers and simple amplifiers. Get hands on how mechanics of electronics work. Novices would definitely love doing these projects as they are both fun and medium to learn about circuitry
1. Low Power 3-Bit Encoder Design using Memristor
The design of an encoder in three distinct configurations—CMOS, Memristor, and Pseudo NMOS—is presented in this work. Three bits are used in the design of the encoder. Compared to cmos and pseudo-nmos logic, the suggested 3-bit encoder that uses memristor logic uses less power. With LTspice, the complete encoder schematic in all three configurations is simulated.
2. A Reliable Low Standby Power 10T SRAM Cell with Expanded Static Noise Margins
The low standby power 10T (LP10T) SRAM cell with strong read stability and write-ability (RSNM/WSNM/WM) is investigated in this work. The Schmitt-trigger inverter with a double-length pull-up transistor and the regular inverter with a stacking transistor make up the robust cross-coupled construction of the suggested LP10T SRAM cell. The read-disturbance is eliminated by this with the read path being isolated from real internal storage nodes. Additionally, it uses a write-assist approach to write in pseudo differential form using a write bit line and control signal. H-Spice/tanner 16mm CMOS Technology was used to simulate this entire design.
3. A Unified NVRAM and TRNG in Standard CMOS Technology
The various keys needed for cryptography and device authentication are provided by the True Random Number Generator (TRNG). The TRNG is usually integrated into the systems as a stand-alone module, which expands the scope and intricacy of the implementation. Furthermore, in order to support various applications, the system must store the key produced by the TRNG in non-volatile memory. However, in order to build a Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM), further technological capabilities are needed, which are either costly or unavailable.
4. High-Speed Grouping and Decomposition Multiplier for Binary Multiplication
The study introduces a high-speed grouping and decomposition multiplier as a revolutionary method of binary multiplication. To lower the number of partial products and critical path time, the suggested multiplier combines the Wallace tree and Dadda multiplier with an innovative grouping and decomposition method. This adder's whole design is built on GDI logic. The suggested design is tested against the most recent binary multipliers utilizing 180mm CMOS technology.
5. Novel Memristor-based Nonvolatile D Latch and Flip-flop Designs
The basic components of practically all digital electrical systems with memory are sequential devices. Recent research and practice in integrating nonvolatile memristors into CMOS devices is motivated by the necessity of sequential devices having the nonvolatile property due to the critical nature of instantaneous data recovery following unforeseen data loss, such as an unplanned power outage.
6. Ultra-Efficient Nonvolatile Approximate Full-Adder with Spin-Hall-Assisted MTJ Cells for In-Memory Computing Applications
With a reasonable error rate, approximate computing seeks to lower digital systems' power usage and design complexity. Two extremely effective magnetic approximation full adders for computing-in-memory applications are shown in this project. To enable non-volatility, the suggested ultra-efficient full adder blocks are connected to a memory cell based on Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ).
7. Improved High Speed or Low Complexity Memristor-based Content Addressable Memory (MCAM) Cell
This study proposes a novel method for nonvolatile Memristor-based Content Addressable Memory MCAM cells that combine CMOS processing technology with Memristor to provide low power dissipation, high packing density, and fast read/write operations. The suggested cell has CMOS controlling circuitry that uses latching to reduce writing time, and it only has two memristors for the memory cell.
8. Data Retention based Low Leakage Power TCAM for Network Packet Routing
To lessen the leakage power squandered in the TCAM memory, a new state-preserved technique called Data Retention based TCAM (DR-TCAM) is proposed in this study. Because of its excellent lookup performance, the Ternary Content Addressable Memory (TCAM) is frequently employed in routing tables. On the other hand, a high number of transistors would result in a significant power consumption for TCAM. The DR-TCAM can dynamically adjust the mask cells' power supply to lower the TCAM leakage power based on the continuous characteristic of the mask data. In particular, the DR-TCAM would not erase the mask data. The outcomes of the simulation demonstrate that the DR-TCAM outperforms the most advanced systems. The DR-TCAM consumes less electricity than the conventional TCAM architecture.
9. One-Sided Schmitt-Trigger-Based 9T SRAM Cell for NearThreshold Operation
This study provides a bit-interleaving structure without write-back scheme for a one-sided Schmitt-trigger based 9T static random access memory cell with excellent read stability, write ability, and hold stability yields and low energy consumption. The suggested Schmitt-trigger-based 9T static random access memory cell uses a one-sided Schmitt-trigger inverter with a single bit-line topology to provide a high read stability yield. Furthermore, by utilizing selective power gating and a Schmitt-trigger inverter write aid technique that regulates the Schmitt-trigger inverter's trip voltage, the write ability yield is enhanced.
10. Effective Low Leakage 6T and 8T FinFET SRAMs: Using Cells With Reverse-Biased FinFETs, Near-Threshold Operation, and Power Gating In this project, power gating is frequently utilized to lower SRAM memory leakage current, which significantly affects SRAM energy usage. After reviewing power gating FinFET SRAMs, we assess three methods for lowering the energy-delay product (EDP) and leakage power of six- and eight-transistor (6T, 8T) FinFET SRAM cells. We examine the differences in EDP savings between (1) power gating FinFETs, (2) near threshold operation, and alternative SRAM cells with low power (LP) and shorted gate (SG) FinFET configurations; the LP configuration reverse-biases the back gate of a FinFET and can cut leakage current by as much as 97%. Higher leakage SRAM cells get the most from power gating since their leakage current is reduced to the greatest extent. Several SRAM cells can save more leakage current by sharing power gating transistors. MORE INFO

Art in The Good Fight (2017-2022) - Part 2
part 1 here:
this part 2 is mostly about s6, because i think you can really track what the art is doing for story and character. so, let's get into it!!
still mad the new partner Ri'Chard took away this beauty, but they're forgiven for 603's art history references.

in the scene with the Dr, Diane mentions Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, originally attributed to Pieter Bruegel the Elder (oil on canvas, c. 1560). it's in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels.

this is absolutely fascinating, because the composition of the painting is original—to give prominence to the 'low' subject matter, being the agricultural figure, rather than Icarus, to whom Diane is drawn. this is called 'Mannerist inversion' (yes i screamed, i'm a nerd).
this piece is brilliantly used this ep. Icarus, small, drowns unnoticed by everyone else. death happens all the time, and we move on. i'm reminded of Diane's sane little corner. the world is oblivious to the tragedy of hubris, concerned only with themselves. seems apocalyptic...
which leads me to my next point. behind the Dr is a Jean Andran engraving of a painting called Winter, part of a Seasons series now in the Louvre by Nicolas Poussin from the 1660s. and what does it depict? the flood. 100% premonition of impending death.

i love that *someone* has done their NY homework and seen that Guggenheim Hilma af Klint exhibit (i am not jealous at all), because also in the Dr's office is af Klint's Tree of Knowledge, No. 5 (Kunskapens träd, nr 5), from the 1915 W Series.
for various reasons, af Klint was for a long time ignored in favour of Kandinsky, Mondrian, Kupka etc in modern Western nonrepresentational art (also her queerness 🍵). her work has two overlapping levels, one biographical and one relating to the history of humanity.
the Tree of Knowledge series is part of her series of 193 Paintings for the Temple, which was af Klint's vision for the future as given to her by a spiritual medium, to depict 'the immortal aspects of man'. hence, she uses iconography from Christianity and Hinduism.

each piece in the Tree of Knowledge series is a variation on a theme, a tree with a heart-shaped crown. and there's a progression to the biblical allusion to Genesis symbolising innocence to fall from Grace, but there are also organic forms and ornate details.
the Tree of Knowledge (of Good and Evil) is usually paired with the
symbol of the Tree of Life, and in af Klint's work, signals binaries melding into unity. but the tree also signals Buddhism (the fig tree), the Tau/life force, the Arasa Maram in Hinduism.
the colours have meaning, yellow for female and blue for male. put them together and it becomes green, and the colours have become purer. this is No. 5, so the white radiations that were pale rose-coloured in No. 4 are now inverted.
af Klint probably knew Rudolf Steiner's colour meanings—yellow as spirit, blue as soul. green as the lifeless image of the living, peach-blossom the living image of the soul. white as the soul's image of the spirit, black as the spiritual image of the lifeless (cf swans).

the 12 sections in the top lotus leaf crown seem to represent the zodiac, months. also, there's a multi-coloured, lobed 'cross' in the small box middle-right, which maybe suggests the first awakening of the higher self?? compare this to the unity of colourful two birds in the bottom circle. there's a lot to be said about how this art represents how humans navigate their smallness in the world.
as seen on 604 in Diane's office, this is Street Musicians, by the American artist Norman Lewis (oil on canvas, 1948). part of the post-war movement.

from 605, i have identified some of the pieces Ri'Chard chose for the office, and they were clearly chosen for reasons. (unfortunately i couldn't find Liz's but i love the home decor and don't doubt this was also carefully chosen.)
this is by Kara Walker, known for room-size tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes. her work illustrates the origins & legacy of slavery in the American South. i suspect there's a Civil War reference too. the 1994 piece riffs on Gone With The Wind (MOMA).

i really love this one. this is Holy Mountain II by Horace Pippin, a self-taught artist post WW1. he was influenced by Edward Hicks, a Quaker minister who painted interpretations of Isaiahs biblical prophecy of world peace and harmony in nature (Peaceable Kingdom, c 1830-32).
though the gatherings seem tranquil, the Holy Mountain series is very dark. poppies, soldiers, grave markers, a limp body hanging from a tree... Holy Mountain I refers to D-Day, Holy Mountain II to Pearl Harbor Day, & Holy Mountain III (Smithsonian) to Nagasaki.
so there are parallels between WW1/Civil War, but it is also very Eden-esque. i rather like that the pastoral figure in a white dress with the yellow cheetah is the centre focus. all very biblical, which fits right in with Ri'Chard's style. Pippin himself stated that,
"'Holy Mountain' came to my mind because the whole world is in such trouble, and in reading the Bible (Isaiah 11:6) it says that there will be peace in the land. If a man knows nothing but hard times he will paint them, for he must be true to himself, but even that man may have a dream, an ideal and 'Holy Mountain' is my answer to such dreaming."
i was thinking about how much gold Ri'Chard brought into the office in the context of his Brand™ (1 & 2 old decor, 3 & 4 new, but none identified yet oop)
there are other etchings in the Dr's office: top: 'Rotherhithe' by James McNeill Whistler from the Thames Set (1860, V&A) bottom: 'Clearing a wreck on the north coast of Cornwall' by Thomas Rowlandson (c 1809-1822, British Museum).

Dr Dude likes ships that's all i can say 🤷♀️ but actually i think there's something interesting about all the Flood references in the Dr's office, like Diane is drowning. possibly, there's a subtle allusion to a very famous painting, Le Radeau de la Méduse, by Théodore Géricault (1818-19, oil on canvas, Louvre).
this is an icon of French Romanticism, depicting the aftermath of the wreck of the French naval frigate Méduse, which ran aground off the coast of what is now Mauritania on 2 July 1816. what's so interesting about this painting is that it presents ordinary people, rather than heroes, reacting to the unfolding drama. as Christine Riding says, the painting represents,
"the fallacy of hope and pointless suffering, and at worst, the basic human instinct to survive, which had superseded all moral considerations and plunged civilised man into barbarism."

by 607, Diane's office art has changed to a piece called Three Tumblers by Daniel Clarke (2018), perhaps a reference to her revolving office bar. also did we notice her flower obsession has dulled a little? but there are still orchids all around the office. i'll leave you to google the meaning of the original Greek word 👀
elsewhere in the office, FIRES abound on the digital screen in the conference room. flood, fire…and?

where there's a mansion, there's sure to be art (609): Asher Brown Durand, Landscape—Scene from "Thanatopsis" (1850, Met); Max Ferdinand Bredt, In the Courtyard of the Harem; John Frederick Lewis, Intercepted Correspondence (1869).

in 609 when same sex marriage is overturned (and Christine Baranski's acting chops is on full show with her shocked face), the image on the tv screen is Witch burning in Regenstein, Saxony-Anhalt, 1555. It's a wood engraving after an original printed on flyleaf (Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg).

frankly there's a lot of misinformation about witch trials, not least of which is that they happened a lot later than most people think (ie. not the medieval period). the early modern period 16-17th centuries were the height of the European witchcraft trials.
and it was an ongoing, systematic persecution that resulted from the targetting of Christian heretics and Jews throughout the 14th century, and gradually both the church and scholars became more and more obsessed with demonology. it was really about the 'other', the concern about the loss of a certain way of life.

Diane, of course, calls herself a wench, so i think it's interesting that her s6 arc eventuates with her heading up a female-only law firm in DC working on women's rights and Roe v Wade. i dislike the way that the word 'witchhunt' is misappropriated like other historical terms in modern contexts, but it's probably fair to call the current backsliding on women's rights a witchhunt. so i love this double meaning.
finally, i wanted to return to how Diane's office art tracks her journey. the Surrealist art was the tone of the show throughout. but the violence seeped into the everyday and everyone just got used to it. hence the second painting is war (contrast the flowers).
but then Diane chooses to stop PT108. almost immediately, a bullet lands on the realist painting of a woman (where does she end up? in Washington DC fighting the good fight for women).
the violence doesn't end there. and then the office literally explodes & you can see a painting is off-centre. which seems like a good metaphor for where the world is at.

so yeah, the progression in Diane's office from Peony Girl to Post-War to a painted version of Chris is just chef's kiss. the way it tracks her psyche in s6? i'm obsessed.
#the good fight#diane lockhart#christine baranski#gary cole#kurt mcveigh#audra mcdonald#the good wife#the good universe#nat's tangents#nat's art history threads#it's missing the good fight hours#i mean it always is#but especially thursdays#although it still seems surreal that it's actually ended#maybe i am just in denial#who knows

do you think there is any significance that alex's colour scheme is green and pink? or do you think rr went "u know what this character needs? to look like a watermelon"
((Prefacing this by saying that I'm giving RR way too much credit here, but you shouldn't take anything an author does for granted— even a serial author who often makes blunders and mistakes.))
A while ago I saw a (pretty unfair) assumption that RR made it green and pink because blue and pink would be too obvious, but that his intention was obviously to reinforce the gender binary by using two distinctly gendered colors for a character with two distinct genders. Of course, they did not phrase it so delicately. No offense to whoever made that post, but I disagree.
Although that may have had to do with it, there's other things to consider. One of them is color symbolism. And oh. OH. I ADORE symbolism— especially flower/plant symbolism (Language of the Flowers and all that jazz), seasonal symbolism (there's a reason that evermore is my second favorite Taylor Swift album), and color symbolism.
GREEN
Let's talk about green first. Green can symbolize a lot of different things, and there are a few that can be applied to Alex's character. The most obvious thing that green often represents is jealousy— hence the expression "green with envy." But envy is not really one of Alex's character traits. Feel free to argue with me if you think that Alex is significantly envious. Just because I couldn't think of substantial textual evidence for it does not mean that there isn't any.
One of the traits that Alex does have is wealth. Green is the color of American currency, and since both RR and Alex are American, it's safe to take an American lens while looking at this color. Alex's socioeconomic background effects her in a big way. I mentioned in a previous post that I think that Alex's fatal flaw is her sense of entitlement. That kind of entitlement is a quality not exclusive to but common among the upper class. However, her distance from her wealthy background enhances the sense of irony in the story, which is a VERY big thing that we NEVER talk about within the fandom.
This is kind of a little thing, but it's worth noting that when it comes to Valhalla and everything, Alex is "green"— as in new and inexperienced.
The color green also emphasizes Alex's connection with nature. This is one of the parts of Alex's character that the fandom consistently underplays, which is an absolute shame. I don't think I have to explain why the color green is associated with all things natural. Alex's association with nature provides a few key things to her character:
It makes her a more well-rounded character. Another criticism of Alex I believe is totally unfounded is that "being genderfluid is her only personality trait because it influences her philosophy on pottery, which is her only hobby." I'm probably going to make another post in, like, a few minutes about why I find that argument a little silly, but the primary problem is that pottery is not Alex's only hobby. She also loves camping, hiking, and ice wall climbing (I bet y'all forgot about that last one!)
It gives her a connection with Magnus. I mentioned in a previous post that Magnus and Alex are foils, but I neglected to bring up why that also makes for very good chemistry between them. Of course, yes, they have different goals and philosophy, which is what makes them foils in the first place. But foil relationships function best when the characters also share some traits. As it turns out, Alex and Magnus share several hobbies, and one of them is a mutual love for nature. This is a very unexplored thing in fics. Start doing it more plz.
Finally, and this one's kind of minor, but the Alex's green gives her a connection to Natalie. I know, whenever Alex and Natalie are compared, either in canon or in fandom, everybody kind goes "eww. Oedipus complex." Which is very fair and true. But they really do have a lot of similarites. The green of Alex's hair and clothes connects her to the green of Natalie's eyes. It's worth saying, too, that Alex has one amber eye— and amber is pretty close to dirty blonde, like Natalie's hair.
If I had more faith in RR, I might bring up the concept of intextuality and how Alex wearing green is an allusion to The Great Gatsby and how Alex is elusive to Magnus, just like Daisy is to Gatsby. But I don't.
PINK
To give credit to the person who wrote the post I mentioned at the beginning of this spiel, I do believe that part of the reason pink was used was to support femininity. Please keep in mind that Alex dresses in an androgynous way— not that there is an actually "gendered" way to dress, since gender as we perceive it is mostly made up. But Alex's existence as a transfemme person (which I will maintain until my dying day) means that pink has a certain significance to her. A lot of AMAB people embrace traditionally feminine things because if they don't, they will not be accepted as genuine women or genuine nonbinary folks, since masculine dress is unisex and kind of the default. So Alex wearing pink probably had something to do with her gender, yes. But that's not necessarily a bad thing, and it's certainly not an unrealistic thing.
Speaking of Alex's gender in relation to the color pink, let's talk about pink's use as a queer rights symbol. Alex was RR's first character to be introduced as a queer character from the start. This was not an insignificant thing, especially in the year of our Lord 2016 (which, despite popular belief, seriously had an entirely different landscape of queer rep. Though it's commonplace now to include genderqueer characters, it was exceptional at the time— especially by such an accomplished and mainstream children's author.).
Let's go back in time to Nazi Germany. Some of you might know this, but for those of you don't this transition must seem jarring. I swear there's a point. In addition to Jews, Romani individuals, people with disabilities, and Poles (among others), gay men were victimized by the Nazis. If you're wondering why lesbians weren't persecuted, it's because the Nazis didn't see them as a serious political threat, or as a threat to the perpetuation of the Aryan race since they assumed gay women could be forcefully impregnated if need be. Yeah, ew. Anyway, much like the Star of David being used to mark Jewish people, gay men were forced into concentration camps and forced to wear a pink triangle. Years later, after the gay population somewhat recovered, the pink triangle was reclaimed and used as a symbol for gay men. Some people who were not gay men used it, too, but that's somewhat controversial since it wasn't their symbol to reclaim. When the first pride flag was created, it had a pink stripe at the top to signify sex (this was later dropped so flags could be more easily produced). The pink triangle (inverted) was used during the AIDs epidemic with the caption "Silence=Death."
My point is that this is a very important color to queer folks. Having one of the first genderfluid characters in kid's lit wear pink...... I mean, it makes sense.
The last and final thing that pink represents, in this context and in general, is innocence. Granted, this kind of connects to feminitity since women (especially white women) are often infantalized and seen as innocent— which is another issue. In any case, the use of pink to represent innocence in Alex's dress is ironic. Alex has been robbed of her childhood innocence, first by her abusive parents, then by her life on the streets, and then by her eventual death at age sixteen. But then she actually regains her innocence. At the beginning of the—
Hold on. I just had a revelation. I'll make a post about it soon.
At the beginning of SotD, Alex is acting a little childish. The most obvious example is him jumping on Randolph's bed to "make noise." Alex's life is stable and relatively healthy for the first time in the years, and she experiences something that a lot of queer folks experience: a re-emergence of childhood at a late stage.
I imagine you didn't expect a post this long. I either make essay responses to asks or I add on one sentence and post it. Oops. Anyway, I believe the mcga fandom can be more creative than calling Alex a watermelon. Here are some other (kinda romantic) pink-and-green alternatives:
Roses
Dragonfruit
Grapefruit
Cherry blossom trees
#mcga#magnus chase#alex fierro#mcatgoa#magnus chase and the gods of asgard#sorry for the long response lol#thanks for the ask! I had a go of it!

Luke Skywalker: Biblical Hero?
While reviewing the photographs from TROS published in Vanity Fair, I stopped on the one featuring Luke with R2D2.

At first glance, I honestly thought it was teasing about finally getting the true story behind the infamous Jedi Temple massacre, that one fatal night that tipped the scale into the birth of Kylo Ren. But as was kindly reminded to me by @tricaurelie, nope, because this is “old Luke”, the one that Rey got to meet on Ahch-To. The picture can sure be misleading as it reprises key elements from the Jedi Temple massacre, mostly R2 and fire. And the planet where Luke decided to establish his temple does exhibit some traces of vegetation, as seen here:

But, nope, this shot is not supposed to be about a flashback that finally tells us all about what and how it all went down, something that is important about the premices of Kylo Ren. Even though, you could very well imagine Force Ghost Luke (in his old form as recorded) coming to tell the story all over again. I don’t really believe in that theory as I enounce it. It’s possible, but meh... How Luke will play out, and this particular scene, who knows, but still, I want to come back to the way Luke is portrayed here and the symbolism behind it. This is very obviously a Moses display. The bearded patriarch. The burning bush. Alright. Let’s pause. Come to think of it, there is more than one biblical figure that can be related to Luke Skywalker.
Some Luke’s superfans would vehemently argue the case for Luke as a Christ figure. Savior. Super powers. The son. The Force is with him... And maybe the EU pushed forward this notion of superhuman, godlike Luke Skywalker. Though, let’s be honest, the only one clearly designed to look like people’s most popular mental picture of what JC may look like is obviously young Obi Wan. Like come on. To the point that you find countless stories and memes of Obi Wan honestly mistaken by people for Jesus. Obi Wan, you will always be the one and only Space Jesus! For real.
Fun fact is the same people who will shout that TLJ was #notmyLuke! should ironically rejoice in the fact that, in a way, Luke achieved some Christlike dimension by sacrificing himself to “atone” for others’ sins and redeem the lost sheep, aka Kylo. And when I say atone for others’ sins, no, this is not solely for Kylo Ren’s sake. He says it very clearly when he tells Rey about the Jedi:
the legacy of the Jedi is failure. Hypocrisy. Hubris. At the height of their power they allowed Darth Sidious to rise, create the Empire, and wipe them out. It was a Jedi Master who was responsible for the training and creation of Darth Vader.
He is atoning, through his penance and death, not only for his own hubris and failures (his pride in the mighty Skywalker blood), not only for the sins of his father, but also for the sins of thousands of generations of Jedi teaching, that eventually failed. That’s a pretty big plate. Yet, I don’t think this is completely fair to see Luke as just straight Christlike figure. There are lots of other major biblical figures that ring truer to his personal arc, such as:
1.DAVID
As in David and Goliath. Why? obviously the shepherd/farmboy that gets to be God/The Force’s agent against an enemy so massive that the fight initially seems like a joke, and who eventually delivers the lucky strike that takes the enemy down.

Bonus point: the severed head from Goliath is evoked in ESB when Luke cuts off Vader’s head...
Also David is a key figure into the lineage that brings forth the Messiah, as exemplified through the symbolic of the tree of Jesse. Out of the house of David, a Savior is supposed to come that will usher in a new kingdom. Hence why it was paramount in the New Testament to have Jesus Christ being a descendant of David to establish his legitimacy as the Messiah.
In SW, the “mighty Skywalker blood” is also supposed to create a chosen one who will bring balance back into the Force. A prophecy that was at the core of the second draft script for ANH, in the piece that Lucas referred to as The Journal of the Whills: “ …And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as THE SON OF THE SUNS." If Lucas had clearly originally thought that Luke could be this one (binary sunset, the son), the OT does not totally play that out. It was even totally dropped out of the storyline. Luke is not Obi Wan and Yoda’s “only hope” after all... and there was no reference whatsoever to a prophecy, or a savior, in the OT. Though, of course, Lucas decided to come back to his initial idea in the PT, with the prophecy becoming the leitmotiv of Anakin’s rise to the status of Jedi and eventual demise into Lord of the Sith. Remains in the ST the mighty Skywalker blood and lineage, with Kylo at the seeming end of the line... (seeming because, eventually, more babies will be on the way). Thus the title, The Rise of Skywalker, could not be more clear, like the tree of Jesse rising high into the sky to bring forth a savior...
2.ST LUKE
Easy one. Don’t think names have no meaning, they do. And writers pick out names for their characters for very good reasons, though not always totally conscious. Case in point, Luke. Lucas may have been drawn to the moniker for obvious homophonic reasons: Luke/Lucas. Luke means light. Sure, son/sun, binary suns, only hope, yadi yada. Comes the ST. Very clever thing happens. St Luke becomes handy. As one of the Evangelist, he is thus entrusted with “recording” precious testimonies about Jesus’s life and God’s message to mankind. Cool thing for old Luke is that he plays the same role, kind of. He is the custodian of the Jedi teaching. He is the last custodian of their legacy. He is also very literally custodian of books. And also, as I pointed out many times in my metas, like this one, the way Kylo Ren is always portrayed as a bull, well, guess what animal is symbolic of St Luke’s? Would you? Right!

3.ABRAHAM
Note that Luke did not end up in an inverted scenario where he could have been Isaac to Vader’s Abraham if Satan, instead of God, had demanded the head of Abraham’s son. Palpatine did not specifically request the death of Luke. It was never expected of Vader. The Emperor wanted to have Luke and possibly turn him. No sacrifice was required. And when Luke refused to bow down, Palpatine did not ask of Vader to put him down. He just took matters into his own hand.
In the ST, though, the way we get to see Luke’s temptation to kill sleepy Kylo is very evocative of Abraham raising his knife to strike down his son.

Debating the will of the Force over Kylo’s dreams was pretty much akin to Abraham listening to God’s voice putting him to the test... With more dramatic consequences in Luke’s case...
4.MOSES
Ok, so that’s the first one I mentioned when bringing up that VF photoshoot. Moses is a good one for Luke. The burning bush is obviously a symbolic they had fun with on TLJ with the whole burning of the Jedi library tree, with Yoda playing the voice that talks Luke back into reason and send him onto completing his mission.

Moses is mostly about guiding people to a better world that you will never reach. Thus, in SW lingo, balance of the Force. Peace to the galaxy. Happy end in IX, right? You betcha!
5.ST JOHN OF PATMOS
That one is a great one. St John is the famed author of the Book of Revelation, the final book of the New Testament, and thus, one could say, the last apostle (wink wink). The Book of Revelation is of course better known as the book of the Apocalypse, which is not only about the myriads of horrible things likely to shower upon mankind and the world (like, the end of the world) but also about the promise of a new world ushered in, the new coming of Christ and a new Heaven and Earth coming to replace our current ones. No more suffering and death. And no more sin. Interesting piece of information about this revelation is that it came to St John on the island of Patmos where he was sent into exile....

Ummmm.... Exile on an island? Where have I ever seen that? I also love the way that St John is always represented with a bird...
And that, in fine, the Luke we get at the end of TLJ, is about to deliver a prophecy of sorts: “The Rebellion is reborn today, the war is just beginning and I will not be the last Jedi.” One that is about death and destruction (war is beginning) but also mostly about hope. Luke, the prophet, is also the first voice we hear in the teaser for episode IX. One that is very much about hope. And also very much reminiscent of the tree of Jesse:
A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight
Mind you then who the son of suns is at this point...

endymion. the binary shard-skinned boy, both a beauty and a wreckage. both silver and onyx. he caught my eye very early on when his biography was posted, because despite what a romantic character he is, what fealty, what fierce devotion streamed through his veins to propel him into his guardianship, into his hopeless love, his hopeless sense of time and light, i could just feel that there was more depth to his story than what was lurking on the surface of him, something darker, something heavier. it’s almost as though he himself shows only a veil to the universe and even to those he loves directly, but it doesn’t truly reflect what’s beneath, it doesn’t scathe the immenseness of his feelings, the complexity with which i’m certain he must hold the reality around him, to be so, so abandoned and then be so, so committed. in terms of the zodiac, i wonder if i’ve ever seen a more gemini-esque character.
headcanons:
i. IN THE BEGINNING. this is onyx.
“a dead planet gutted cleanly into two halves.”
in many ways, endymion is the very planet which hangs hollow and muted in his history; carries the same scars across the leather of his skin, harbors the same wounds against the bloody veins of his canyons, floating and confused in the midnight hue, pieces of him struck dead by random circumstances beyond even the heart of heaven’s control. the tectonic plates of his diaphragm muscles and shoulder blades seize and crumble around him, shudder apart in horror at self-realization, in disgust at useless unintelligence, at the confounding dilemma that is himself.
cosmos has left him, cracked from the core, split down the middle in this, her devastating desertion, her gaze turning dull and distant from him and all his kind, and if, in her apostasy, she finds nothing more about him to warrant an ounce of salvation, why would he? she turns away from his planet to leave them all in the vacant beating of their black-hole chests, invert their souls to do the opposite of shine, the opposite of burn, the opposite of feel, and endymion can only watch as his marrow drains from his bones, watch as the kaleidoscope of essence drifts away like pieces of his own world, his own atmosphere. a black planet shifting without light, the scorched surface of his empty hands reflecting nothing more, no wishes, no hopes, no directions; he is a monochrome of ebony and dust.
he knows what it means to be shattered, knows what it means to be neglected, to be dark, dark inflorescence, drying and dying in the shade, with only asteroids to swear by, only the silhouette of sleep against death, only the stars to glean what little understanding he can of what the freezing tendrils of life really are. he knows how cold carbon can burn, how to twist and reach and flex and fracture open and open and open, until all the universe pours down his throat, a reverse scream, a reverse howl, calling for a light he cannot put a name to.
he’d been born yowling and aching before he’d ever even understood the concept.
ii. WARTIME SERENADES. and this is silver.
the dawning of the new millenium harkens him to her horizon and he rises to it on a cascadence of newfound purpose, the motivation of the damned, the determination of a wolf twice splintered, the two halves of his soul melding and welding together in the heat of battle, the war for loyalty. he reshapes himself away from cosmos’ hand, away from the broken glass she forged him from, away from the future she’d already discarded. he reshapes himself into a blade, reshapes himself into dry bone and razor-sharp teeth, reshapes himself into every biting edge and cutting dagger the solar system could possibly offer, his palms no longer empty of blood or gore, now colored heavily with the last sighs of corpses.
the lady of the moon kneels over him only once, and from then on he kneels only to her, he inclines only to her, he assents only to her, and in her warcry, he finds his legs, his arms, his heartbeat, every joint in his knuckles wrapping over the handles of blades, everything he thought had been lost to him forever more. he collides, he cascades, he strikes down against the earth’s gravity, two planets conflicting in a halo of hellish distortions, and even the crater he leaves behind sings a ringing timbre of atonement-- atonement for sins yet uncommitted, but not warded off for long. while the others in the garrison claim every solar flare and ounce of mortal blood, every shredded tree and upheaved continent, endymion calls the shadows to him, calls the silence, calls the quiet hell, writes his name across every widened pair of eyes that never saw him coming.
iii. CONNECTIONS TO: other celestials. this is how onyx darkens.
created as not much more than a mutt, a hodgepodge of shapes and shadows, he considers himself only half-divine, only half finished, a prism monstrosity with a foolish adjacent position near to godliness, close enough to share atmosphere with celestial hosts, but far enough to only see their light after they’ve become supernovae. he cares nothing for all of them, and yet too much for most of them, separate even as he surrounds himself, even as he is surrounded, all with their piercing, jeweled eyes and vicious, seething teeth. he regards them coolly, wholly ice and wholly still. he remembers this always; that he is not belonging to them, he is not beholden to any of them, save one, and he will cut them down, strike them from beings of light to nighttime corpses, their pretty lies and gleaming lipsticks rendered to little more than ash and dust, should his lady wish it. one word from selene and he would lay waste to them all.
iv. CONNECTIONS TO: selene. this is how silver flares.
he discovers the true nature of stars only after meeting the moon. his life, a series of ink-black stains and coal-toned scars, his life a bleak shadow of misunderstanding and regret, of forlorn tragedies and helpless aspirations, of loves unspoken and hearts locked away in iron boxes, he comes to learn that stars are cold, are distant, are detached. he cries to them, baying his emotions out into the universe, out into cosmos’ closed hearing, her ear pressed away from him, her attentions inward only, his wishes collapsing in on themselves like falling comets. the stars do not call back to him.
only the moon does, only the radiation in his general direction, and it’s not love, he knows this, it’s not favor, not intimacy, not desire, not anything he could ever touch or feel or inhale, nothing about her signalling any moment’s attachment to him, yet still, she shines on, as she shines in every direction, in every possible angle, the incandescence of her glow near to blinding him, and he drowns in it. for a creature of the dark, even the smallest of her touches, the least of her murmurs, the shortest of her glances, is enough to fuel him for another millenia; she could not be rid of him unless she killed him, and she has only to voice it, wish it so, and he would complete the task for her, spill his blood between one heartbeat and the next, drain himself of all sharpened edges, all waning howls.
he’d do anything for her, anything, anything, which is why he lets her turn away from him, he lets her disintegrate from his side, lets her discard him when she must-- name him canine and pet hound, name him guardian only, never lover, never husband, never soulmate. in the boroughs of his chest, he caves in on himself slowly, the pieces of him fragmenting more and more with each passing century, but he speaks to none of it, voices none of it. others, ysra most notably, chide him regularly about his unending love, his yawning torment, the devotion he allows to destroy and gnaw his organs, gnashing the gamey meats to poultry while he stands firm and marble in his role as protector, but he can do nothing else. he can love nothing else.
she has given him the chance no other has given him, she has shown him what love truly is-- how can he do anything except try to give it back?
v. CONNECTIONS TO: ysra. when bronze meets flame.
endymion is no raging tide, no furious monstrosity of hurricane, there is very little fire or absolute catastrophe that storms ahead of his stride wherever he may go, he does not seethe with untempered savagery, and although he admires and rather reluctantly adores his partner, his planetary sister by all the prowling gifts and measures she claws and rips for, he understands and notes the differences between them as night and day. her, the sun, burning and hungry and ravenous beyond end, all gold and bronze and heat, her intelligence only seconded by her temper; him, a shadow, not the moon itself, but the absence of light that floods in when all else has faded, cut and sharp and lethal as ice, frozen and silent, a black hound slipping through the insanities of time.
he loves her fiercely, despite himself, despite herself, despite all logic decreeing they should never get along and perhaps never venture within the same space of each other; she smiles when he makes a mistake, he grins when she’s angry-- sometimes he imagines them truly related, truly of blood together, a whole childhood of mingled memories and eternities of understanding, but although he would surrender his life for her own, and she for him, he knows they ignite too separately, too contradictory, too dissident. same coin, vasty different peripheries.
vi. CONNECTIONS TO: cosmos. coal reaching subzero temperatures.
he scrapes out the pieces cosmos embedded inside him, drops the foundation of her touch, ignores the divided hemispheres of his soul, the way reality looks now different from how it looked then. he abandons her and her watch, her worship, her admiration, the bitterment blistering his tongue with a foulness he can never name, a torrid weight he can never announce, only taking each step as to untether himself from his disappointment in her, a blight he’s sure rivals her disappointment in him. he forges himself from steel and stone, hones his instincts from perfection to indomitable supremacy, alights himself with starlight and moondust, a keen shadow to his charge, his mandate, his lady.
he tries not to openly sneer at her sculptures, tries not to hate them publicly, tries not notice their softness, how careful and loving the hands that formed them must have been, for such a mother who discards the children left in the wake of her womb so suddenly and without guidance. he keeps his acidity to himself, locked in the same black ocean inside him where he keeps everything else that’s real and heavy and forlorn, that he cannot, will not, produce in anyone’s presence. jaw wired shut, eyes bright but downcast, endymion centers himself only on the now, the services he strives to provide, the force he must maintain, the court he must endure.
vii. HE WHO BREAKS. the wolf in immortal skin. personality and physical aesthetics.
there is a duality that breeds inside his lungs like a cancer, festers uncertain inside the maze of his heart, the way his words so very rarely match the expressions on his face, how his eyes and brows and lips unjustly divine far more than he usually intends to permit, more expression held in a single glance than any declarations he could manage to give. his eyes bloom too brightly, his lips too quick to grin before he can turn away, the hollowness of most godly creatures unaffecting him just yet, their apathy or fury unscathing him just yet; he who has seen the edge of creation, seen the vacant twilights of disuse and despair, still somehow clinging to the shimmering ends of his time alive, believing the days to be blessings, believing the nights to be more triumphs to conquer. he has been worthless and desolate before, he has been idle and barren and insignificant before-- he shall not be that again.
something in him still yearns, still craves for the light of love just beyond his reach, similarly to himself before his awakening, the outline of his veins beating rancid against the cage of his ribs, but despite this, his exquisite misery, he still bares his heart on his sleeve along with the sword on his back, just as quick with a smile as he is with a knife, refusing to dampen his loyalty or his endearment for anything under the stars. he is unendingly protective, arms like steel bars, gaze like twin arrows, the height of him imposing long carvings against the marble floors, the indentations of his suspicions eternal and irreversible.
a thousand years he stands magnificent and ascetic, a massive wolf hide sewn and threaded into the tapestry of the cloak over his broad shoulders, the uniform meshed from titanium and iron, from volcanic stone and mortar; he is the collected assembly of cold shine and fathomless vantablack, of humanoid and animalistic instincts. poised to growl at anyone too close to his queen, teeth bared and bloodthirsty, he keeps his eyes like daggers to the courts and strangers alike, able to shift instantly from friendly to ferocious in split-second timelines.
with every hour’s passage, he ordains himself to shine ever steady, ever stable, the unshakable anchor of his feet rooted to his position, his profession, his passion, both a star himself (undying and deathless in the surrounding black) and the wolf his queen requires him to be, all outstretched claws and raised hackles. come storm, come turmoil, come upheaval or chaos, endymion stands guardian at the gates of selene’s atmosphere, devoted and true, righteous and unwavering.

Exploring Big O notation to these search algorithms: Google, Amazon Elastic Search, and Microsoft SPTAG
Introduction: In today’s digital age, search algorithms play a vital role in helping users find relevant information quickly and efficiently. Behind the scenes, companies like Google, Amazon, and SPTAG (Space Partition Tree and Graph) employ sophisticated search algorithms to power their search functionalities. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the concept of Big O notation and its relevance to these search algorithms. We’ll explore how Big O notation relates to the search algorithms used by Google, Amazon Elastic Search, and SPTAG. Additionally, we’ll provide a list of common search algorithms, along with their Big O complexities and usage in various companies.
Understanding Big O Notation: Big O notation allows us to analyze the efficiency of algorithms by measuring how their performance scales with input size. It provides an upper bound on the worst-case time complexity of an algorithm. By examining the Big O complexity, we can determine how quickly an algorithm’s execution time increases as the input grows larger.
Big O Notation in Search Algorithms: 1. Google Search Algorithm: Google employs a highly complex search algorithm that takes into account various factors like keyword relevance, page rank, and user behavior. The search algorithm used by Google is not publicly disclosed. However, given the enormous scale of Google’s search index, it is safe to assume that their algorithm utilizes efficient data structures and indexing techniques, resulting in a complexity of O(log n) or better.
2. Amazon Elastic Search Algorithm: Amazon Elastic Search is a scalable and distributed search service used for querying large volumes of data. It employs the Apache Lucene search library, which implements an inverted index-based search algorithm. The complexity of the search algorithm used by Amazon Elastic Search is typically O(log n) or better, as it leverages data structures like B-trees and optimized indexing techniques.
3. SPTAG (Space Partition Tree and Graph) Algorithm: SPTAG is an open-source approximate nearest neighbor search algorithm developed by Microsoft. It is designed to efficiently search high-dimensional vector spaces, commonly used in applications like recommendation systems and image search. SPTAG utilizes spatial partitioning techniques and graphs to perform fast and accurate searches. Its complexity can vary depending on the specific implementation and data set characteristics but is typically O(log n) or better.
List of Common Search Algorithms and Their Big O Complexities: 1. Selection Sort: — Big O Complexity: Ω(n²) — Usage: Selection sort is a simple comparison-based sorting algorithm. Although not commonly used for large data sets, it can be suitable for small arrays or as a teaching tool. Companies may use it for educational purposes or in scenarios where simplicity is preferred over performance.
2. Merge Sort: — Big O Complexity: Ω(n log n) — Usage: Merge sort is an efficient divide-and-conquer sorting algorithm. It is widely used in various applications where stability and predictable performance are crucial. Companies like Netflix, LinkedIn, and Spotify employ merge sort for their data processing and sorting needs.
3. Bubble Sort: — Big O Complexity: Ω(n) — Usage: Bubble sort is a simple comparison-based sorting algorithm that repeatedly swaps adjacent elements if they are in the wrong order. It is primarily used for educational purposes and small data sets due to its relatively inefficient performance compared to other sorting algorithms.
4. Linear Search & Binary Search: — Linear Search: — Big O Complexity: Ω(n) — Usage: Linear search is a simple search algorithm that sequentially checks each element in a list until a match is found. It is suitable for small, unsorted lists or when the data is not organized in a way that allows efficient searching.
- Binary Search:
- Big O Complexity: Ω(log n) — Usage: Binary search is a fast search algorithm that requires the data to be sorted. It repeatedly divides the search space in half, eliminating half of the remaining elements with each comparison. Binary search is widely used in various applications, including search engines, databases, and efficient retrieval of sorted data.
Conclusion: Understanding Big O notation is crucial for software engineers, especially when dealing with search algorithms. Companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft utilize sophisticated search algorithms with efficient time complexities to power their search functionalities. By grasping the concept of Big O notation and the complexities associated with various search algorithms, engineers can make informed decisions about algorithm selection and optimization. Whether it’s sorting data, performing searches, or building recommendation systems, a solid understanding of Big O notation is vital for designing efficient and scalable solutions.

Slice of Life[3]
[Nora]
Nora finished the coding interview question in roughly three minutes, but she still felt a little bit blindsided.
“Congratulations, that works perfectly.”
“But WHY?”
“Why what?”
“Why would you ask me to do this?”
On the whiteboard was C++ code that inverted a binary tree. It was easy as fuck. It was just one line different than traversing a tree normally, and it didn’t take her a whole lot of time to figure out the difference.
“We just wanted to assess your abilities.”
“And is this a...warm-up?”
“Nope, that’s the whole thing. Congratulations again.”
Nora just stood there for a little while, whiteboard marker still in hand. “I just inverted a binary tree on a whiteboard. Does that indicate to you that I will be a good fit for your company?”
“Surprisingly, yes. This question is literally the best metric we have devised.”
“Seriously?”
“Seriously.”
They stood there for a little while, looking at each other.
“So what do I wear on Monday?”
[Dan]
The entire meeting room was full of engineers intimidated by Dan, in spite of the fact that Dan was a tiny Asian dude who looked like he could be knocked out by a single punch from a 90-year-old drunken man with a walking problem. His height said two things about him: That he was special in a not-good sort of way, and something I’d rather not say.
“I want to know which of you limp dick pieces of shit is applying to other companies.”
One engineer he hated (Dan hated all of his engineers, but this one he hated especially) started to say something, then stopped.
“Spit it out, you fuck. Who is it?”
“N-N-Nora, probably?”
“Ah, so you’re selling out Nora. Nora is ten times more loyal than any of you treacherous Indeed-easy-applying douche bags will ever be.”
The hated engineer showed Dan his phone. “Look at her status: ‘Started my first day at a new job in San Francisco today.’ Hashtag livelovelaugh. Hashtag girlswhocode. Hashtag MondayMartinis.”
“Holy shit,” said Dan.
“I liked and shared the photo. That’s cool, right?”
“All of you, clear the room. I need to make a personal call.”
Nora did not respond to Dan’s first or second or third call. He decided to text her, instead.
How could you, he texted her. How could you leave?
Better pay, she texted back, almost immediately, better salary, less toxic atmosphere, more fun projects.
Oh okay, Dan texted, I guess that’s fine then.
Funny, texted Nora, I didn’t pick up because I thought you would be mad.
I am extremely mad, texted Dan, it is just very difficult to convey my rage without screaming.
[Ryan]
“This is, without question, the worse code I have ever seen,” said Ryan. Ryan and Kevin were in a conference room. On the projector was an incomprehensible mess of nondescriptive variable names, pointers to pointers to pointers, and comments written to the tune of this line of code is never called, and if it was called it definitely would not work.
“It gets worse,” said Kevin, “just look at this next function.”
Kevin scrolled down on the computer they were projecting. Underneath that was a bunch of incomprehensible 0x values.
“For the love of all that is good and holy,” said Ryan, “What twisted abomination of a human would write something like this?”
“I don’t think it was written by a human,” said Kevin, “I think it was written by some rogue automated script turning against its creator as a final act of vengeance.”
“I can fix this,” said Ryan.
“Really?”
“I’ll refactor the whole thing. We don’t know what it’s trying to do but we know what it’s supposed to do. That will save a lot of time.”
“But they asked us to fix the code.”
“And I’ll fix it. By rewriting it. All of it.”
“How long do you think it will take you?”
Ryan checked his watch. The time was 1PM.
“How many lines is this file, again?”
“In spite of everything it says in the coding standards, 1000.”
“What time do you usually hit the gym?”
“2:30. I return at 4.”
Ryan looked at the code, then looked at Kevin.
“When you get back, I will have all the code rewritten.”
When Kevin returned at 4, all test cases were passed by a mere 220 lines of Ryan’s code.
