She could have been The Voice Of The Tempest.
When Vilya was lost (to her family, to the Ashari, to the world) she was at the last stage of her Aramente. She had already gone through the other Trials, travelled the world and made allies, she had grown and strengthened to carry the mantle.
She was so close. Did she already see herself finally going home? Mourning the time she missed with her daughter, but excited to miss no more? She must have.
I don't think the Aramente was ever supposed to be deadly. Our and Keyleth's view of it was always tainted by the fact that Vilya (the protege, the one Keyleth had to measure up to) didn't come back.
But even Headmaster Uvenda of the Water Ashari said that the task had become too difficult in recent years. It supposed to be so much easier, and she was supposed to be almost home.
And it is so so easy to see Vilya's potential: she's enough of a natural leader that (even without any of her memories!) she became the spiritual leader of Vo! She has the natural charisma and leadership qualities that Keyleth always feared she lacked! (Last time I used the word "leader", I promise!)
This is the first time I regret that our point of view in Exandria is with the Mighty Nein. I am so incredibly curious to see what Vilya does next: where does she see her most pressing responsibilities? She has been a spiritual leader(whoops) for the people here on Rumblecusp, so does she feel responsible to restore their memories? She failed to bring back an Iodestone to Vesrah, does she go there to make sure the portal to the Water plane is still stable?
And if she ignores all that and hurries back home to her husband and daughter, how fucking weird is it going to be to get to know her daughter, The Voice Of The Tempest?

lodestone and moonstone
send me a crystal and i’ll tell… ||  ACCEPTING
Iodestone: what kind of people gravitate towards my muse
She can count the number of friends she has on one hand, and the majority of them are men. Relationships are usually fleeting. She’s often seen as a conquest by men in her career, who are equal parts threatened and impressed by her skill.  Jac doesn’t form relationships quickly or easily. She’s prickly and slow to trust, therefore likely to scare off anyone who isn’t prepared to be there for the long haul.
Moonstone: my muse’s opinions on outer space
She’s far too busy rummaging through open chest cavities to spend too much time thinking about it. However if she’s feeling particularly philosophical she’ll spend a moment contemplating the sheer size of it, and how small we are in comparison.
