Dhoni finishes off in style....
August 15, 2020
This was the iconic comment by Ravi Shastri as M. S. Dhoni hit his now legendary six to finish the contest at the final of World Cup 2011.
As M. S. Dhoni chose an opportune moment on an auspicious day, this comment again resonates. He held his head high and is now walking into the sunset after conquering all that was on offer in the World of Cricket.
India's mad cricketing folklore bade a tearful goodbye to Sachin Tendulkar in 2013. Today that same cricketing fraternity will be pushed once again into nostalgia as another legend leaves only memories behind.
Dhoni remained stoic all through his public career. Never ever he allowed emotions to leave his demeanor's defence. Whether it was the ecstacy of winning the coveted World Cup Trophies or even when failing to steer his team to safety at the end of his final international match, the eventful run out against New Zealand in the semi final of World Cup 2019.
There was this belief that he had ingrained in us that as long as he was at the crease, there use to be more than hope, rather a strong sense of anticipation that he would pull the team out of even completely hopeless situations.
That faith is so important, and the positive vibes he used to radiate will always be associated with with new gen India.
His cricketing acumen, rather unorthodox playing style, team leading abilities, strong sense of calm, a pure sagastic approach to go about doing what was best for the team and stoic attitude, all has and will remain as a legacy for us, and by us, we mean the entire cricket loving people sans boundaries.
With his on screen avatar fading away a couple of months ago, the legend of Dhoni on field is also gracefully taking a bow.
And yes, Suresh Raina has also played a masterstroke to associate himself with his captain cool for the record books. Raina, a lively player that he always was, will always be remembered for his fitness and agility. He still remains the longest serving player in IPL history, never allowing any fitness concern overshadow his performance on field.
Take a bow..
Regards
