Brew #218: Reel Deel Brewery Jack the Lad Irish Pale Ale

ABV: 4.5%

Served: From the fridge

Aroma: Grapefruit, peach, melon, pine

Pour: Clear, dark amber with white frothy head

Taste: Light malt wash with grapefruit undertones before a piney bite to finish. Medium dry with tarty aftertaste. Nice palatable ale; the flavours are light and airy, an easy drinker.

Notes: 500ml bottle

Brew #170: Franciscan Well Brewery Chieftain Irish Pale Ale

ABV: 5.5%

Served: From the fridge

Aroma: Pine, citrus, light malt

Pour: Dark amber with off white froth reducing to a skim

Taste: Malt on the wash with loads of pine coming through. A light dryness with some mid range fruitiness before ending on a very slight bite. Not much afteratste. This was ok, I’ve had Chieftain on draught and it was great so I was a little disappointed with the contents of this can.

Notes: 330ml can

Brew #111: Kinnegar Otway Pale Ale

ABV: 4.2%

Served: From the fridge

Aroma: Honey

Pour: Gold, clear with white froth head

Taste: Hay and oats immediately crashing into a biting metallic dryness with afternotes of lemon peel and cream. A marriage of rustic and urban tones almost. Kinnegar are fast becoming a favourite of mine, every brew so far has been tip top.

Notes: 500ml long neck bottle

Brew #102: Wicklow Wolf Brewing Co. Locavore Fresh Hop Irish Pale Ale

ABV: 4.7%

Served: From the fridge

Aroma: Grass, corn, wheat, biscuit

Pour: Cloudy amber with a disappearing white foam

Taste: Full on biscuit maltiness washing through with sweet melon and fruit notes in the background. There’s a slight citrus kick at the finish with a mild hoppy bite. This is a grand sup, very nice ale indeed.

Notes: 500ml bottle, Locavore = one who only eats & drinks local produce, brewed from 2015 harvest.

Brew #90: Metalman Brewing Co. Pale Ale

ABV: 4.3%

Served: From the fridge

Aroma: Pine, malt

Pour: Golden amber with a slight haze and a finger of white froth

Taste: Woody pine upfront melting into creamy malt toffee notes. Medium carbonation with a good dry bite. Nice hoppy beer, good summers day drinking in it.
