Mazda's CX-70: Luxury Downsized or Just a CX-90 in Disguise?_NEWS from Test Miles on Vimeo.
Mazda has decided to make a bold move with its latest offering, the 2025 Mazda CX-70, shrinking the larger CX-90's ambitious design into what may just be the right size for those not needing a caravan-sized vehicle. Priced between $40,445 and $55,950, this mid-size luxury SUV straddles the fine line between the more compact CX-50 and its bigger brother, the CX-90, seemingly tailored for those who've bid farewell to the bustling household era and now revel in the quiet after the storm.
At the heart of the CX-70's charm is a choice of two engines. The traditionalists can opt for the robust 3.3-liter six-cylinder, or, for the eco-minded, a plug-in hybrid that promises efficiency with a 2.5-liter engine paired with an electric motor, whipping up 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The latter not only caters to the green-hearted but does so with gusto, boasting up to 56 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) and covering 26 miles purely on electric zeal—a perfect companion for city sprints and countryside jaunts alike.
As we delve deeper, the CX-70, which begins at a premium entry price of $54,400 for the PHEV Premium trim, doesn’t shy away from showing off its sophisticated attire. Available in eye-catching hues like Soul Red Crystal and Zircon Sand Metallic, it stands proudly on available 21-inch wheels, framed by a striking wide front fascia and black contrasting accents. It's quite the looker but doesn't just play to the gallery. Inside, the cabin mirrors the upscale ambiance of the CX-90, adorned with options such as black upholstery festooned with gold stitching or sumptuous red Nappa leather, all underpinned by Mazda’s commitment to ergonomic and aesthetic finesse.
But it's not just about looks or lounging in luxury. The CX-70 is as practical as it is plush. Absent a third row, it offers a spacious cargo area, complete with remote-folding rear seats and hooks for bags—ideal for those who travel with more than just a briefcase. The technological suite is nothing to scoff at either. A 12.3-inch central infotainment display ensures connectivity and control are at your fingertips, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an array of driver-assistance systems including radar cruise control and a novel unresponsive driver support system.
Competing head-on with the likes of the Honda Passport and Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid, Mazda’s trimmed-down transporter raises a compelling argument: does bigger necessarily mean better? In the arena of mid-sized SUVs, where every inch and option is scrutinized, the CX-70 presents a contrarian viewpoint that less might indeed be more, particularly for the discerning empty nester or the environmentally conscious driver.
Despite some naysayers describing the CX-70 as a possibly lukewarm makeover of the CX-90, the optimism surrounding its driving dynamics and high-quality interior suggests that Mazda may just have trimmed the fat rather than the muscle. So, while it might not be reinventing the wheel, with the CX-70, Mazda reinforces that sometimes, a little less is exactly enough.

The Evolution of SUVs: From Off-Roading Beasts to Family-Friendly Crossovers
Tumblr media
The Evolution of SUVs: From Off-Roading Beasts to Family-Friendly Crossovers
SUVs have undergone a fascinating evolution from their humble highway beginnings to the family-friendly crossover version of today. This vehicle class has come a long way from the first custom conversion vans and eventually off-roading beasts like the Jeep Wagoneer in 1962 to the modern, sleek look of today's SUVs. Whether it’s features such as roomy interiors with third-row seats or advanced safety systems that are becoming standard on nearly every model – from luxury vehicles to budget versions - we can all agree that the SUV is now an indispensable part of our everyday lives.
Let’s look at how these rugged road warriors have changed and what they offer today’s drivers!
A Brief History Of SUVs
Since their inception, SUVs have come a long way from their roots as off-roading beasts to becoming family-friendly crossovers. What started as rugged, all-terrain vehicles for adventure-seeking enthusiasts have evolved into spacious, comfortable transportation for families.
The significance of selecting the right tyres, however, has persisted throughout the development of SUVs. Falken wild peak h/t01 tyres, specifically designed for SUVs and light trucks, offer superior stability and traction in wet and dry conditions. They incorporate cutting-edge technology that ensures a smooth and safe driving experience, regardless of terrain. From the early days of off-road exploration to the modern-day suburban lifestyle, choosing the right tyres is key to getting the most out of your SUV.
Present State of The SUV Market, Including Popular Models And Features
SUVs have grown in popularity because of their adaptability and space. With the advent of newer technologies, such as hybrid and electric powertrains, and advanced safety features, the SUV market has been booming like never before.
Suppose you are looking to buy an SUV anytime soon but are unsure what's available. In that case, this section will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the current state of the SUV market, including popular models and features.
Compact SUVs:
They are well-liked because of their usefulness, fuel economy, and affordability. Although smaller than a sedan, they provide more room and are simpler to move around town. The Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Mazda CX-5 are the three most popular small SUVs on the market right now. These models offer advanced safety features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and fuel-efficient powertrains.
Mid-Size SUVs:
Mid-size SUVs are ideal for families needing more space than a compact SUV but don't want to opt for a full SUV. The Toyota Highlander, Honda Passport, and Chevy Traverse are some of the most popular mid-size SUVs in the market right now. These models offer spacious interiors, advanced safety systems, and powerful yet fuel-efficient engines.
Full-Size SUVs:
A full-size SUV is the best option if you want power and space. These models can comfortably accommodate up to 8 passengers and have impressive towing capacities. The Toyota Sequoia, Ford Expedition, and Chevy Tahoe are popular examples of this class of vehicles. These SUVs have high-end amenities like leather upholstery, expansive sunroofs, and cutting-edge entertainment systems.
Hybrid/Electric SUVs:
As environmental concerns continue to grow, hybrid and electric SUVs have become more popular in recent years. Models like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, and Tesla Model X offer fuel-efficient or fully electric powertrains, making them an excellent choice for eco-conscious consumers. Additionally, they come with features like regenerative braking, which captures energy when the brakes are applied, and advanced battery management systems.
Advanced Safety Features:
As mentioned earlier, new SUVs have advanced safety features that make driving safer and more comfortable. These features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, to name a few. While the specific features may vary depending on the model and trim level, most SUVs nowadays offer a suite of safety features that make driving much safer than before.
How To Make Informed Decisions When Buying An SUV
Purchasing an SUV can be an exciting prospect, but making an informed decision that will meet your needs in the long term is essential.
Research is your crucial key. Don't rush into a purchase without doing your homework and comparing models.
Consider your lifestyle, driving habits, and the terrain you will be encountering to determine what features are necessary.
Don’t forget to consider the ongoing ownership cost and purchase price.
To determine which financing option is best for you, compare rates, terms, and financing choices.
Lastly, consider customized SUV tyres that can enhance your driving experience, providing added comfort and better handling.
Making informed decisions goes a long way in ensuring you'll be happy with your SUV for years.

Toyota venza hybrid
Tumblr media
In terms of cargo space, every 2023 Venza offers 28.8 cubic feet of carrying space behind the second row and 55.1 cubic feet total with the rear seatbacks folded. Regardless of the trim level, sound-absorbing insulation and body sealing material have been placed throughout Venza’s structure to help reduce unwanted cabin noise. In addition to the new Nightshade Edition, the 2023 Toyota Venza is available in three other trim levels: LE, XLE, and Limited. That would make the Venza superior to its contemporaries like the Honda Passport, but unlike the V6-equipped Passport that can tow 5,000 lbs., the Venza is not rated for towing, so keep this in mind if you plan on hauling toys or heavy gear. If you heed your right foot, the Venza has no trouble achieving nearly 40 mpg combined. It’s not the quickest of the lot, but the Venza is not about sporty driving. You might think 219 horsepower is insufficient for a relatively large and hefty hybrid crossover, and you are right. Toyota claims the Venza can travel in front-wheel drive (100:0 front-rear torque distribution) at a constant speed, while the system can shift to 20:80 over slippery terrain. The drivetrain works seamlessly and varies the torque distribution depending on existing road conditions. There are two electric motors in the front and one in the back, effectively supplying the Venza with all-wheel grip via Toyota’s Electronic On-Demand AWD. The 2023 Toyota Venza remains motivated by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with dual overhead cams and three electric motors that collectively develop 219 horsepower. Efficient Hybrid Powertrain & All-Wheel Drive The Venza Nightshade Edition is available in Ruby Flare Pearl, Celestial Black, or Wind Chill Pearl paint. It also has an electrochromic sunshade that works like transition lenses. Unlike ordinary glass roofs, Star Gaze has a glass that switches between transparent and frost at your behest. Optional for the Nightshade is Toyota’s Star Gaze Panoramic Roof. It also gets LED fog lights (now standard in the base Venza LE), 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels, and black badging. Standard fare for the Nightshade Edition is an acrylic front grille trim, smoked chrome moldings, and blacked-out trim for the mirror caps, door handles, rocker panels, roof rails, and sharkfin antenna. The Venza is now available with the Nightshade Edition Package based on the mid-level XLE trim. The 2023 Toyota Venza remains part of the second-gen variant that resurfaced in 2021. But if all you want is a decent crossover with good fuel economy, the 2023 Venza is worth considering. Still, the 2023 Venza does have its fair share of drawbacks, mainly the tiny cargo area (courtesy of the hybrid-electric components) and sparse interior room. In other words, the new Venza is a RAV4 hybrid wrapped in a Lexus-esque body and infused with a more premium vibe and more desirable features than a comparable RAV4, like that groovy electrochromic glass roof. As usual, the Venza scores high in fuel economy with its standard hybrid powertrain derived from the Toyota RAV4. The 2023 Toyota Venza is the latest to receive the Nightshade Editon package that adds dark styling elements to Toyota’s hybrid SUV. Some features will be upgraded in the Venza over the RAV4 Hybrid as well, for instance the latter comes standard with a 7” infotainment display with an available 8” upgrade, where as the new Venza will offer a standard 8” screen and an available 12.4” enhancement.2023 Toyota Venza: Pricing & Availability Although not pictured in the table, the Venza is 5.7 inches longer than the RAV4 Hybrid, but 1.1 inches shorter. Although the Toyota Venza belongs to the larger segment, the RAV4 Hybrid actually offers just a little bit more space to fill with whatever you need to bring along with you. However, its Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive system does differ slightly in the way that it works, as it can send up to 80% of power to the rear wheels when necessary, while the RAV4 Hybrid’s system can only send up to 50%.Īnother difference comes in terms of space. That’s why each vehicle is capable of generating the same amount of horsepower, and why Toyota is estimating it will achieve the same combined fuel economy. Both hybrid crossovers are built on the TNGA-K platform so that they deliver a refined driving experience, but they’re also underpinned by the same powertrain, the Toyota Hybrid System II. As you can tell from the table above, the two crossover utility vehicles are actually quite similar to one another.

HRH Carl Philip, Prince of Sweden, is signing the Volkswagen guest book. From left: HRH Carl Philip, Prince of Sweden next to Andreas Renschler, CEO of TRATON SE and a Member of the Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Board of Management    Visit centered on Volkswagen’s e-mobility strategy and test drives in the Volkswagen Group’s latest-generation electric vehicles    Sweden is one of Europe’s largest markets for electric vehicles – Passat GTE1 is the best-selling electric car in Sweden    With Scania, the Volkswagen Group is one of the largest industrial investors in Sweden – €2.4 billion invested in the country in the last ten years    Prince Carl Philip met with Swedish startup entrepreneurs at a Volkswagen event on innovative manufacturing technologies and Industry 4.0 Sweden is the Partner Country of Hannover Messe 2019. During his official visit to Germany, Prince Carl Philip was welcomed by Volkswagen Group representatives in Wolfsburg and found out more about the company’s e-mobility strategy. The Swedish Prince was one of the first to test the Group’s new generation of electric cars, including models from the Volkswagen ID. family. Sweden is one of Europe’s largest markets for electric vehicles. Andreas Renschler, CEO of TRATON SE and a Member of the Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Board of Management, said: “Sweden is a role model in the area of climate protection. Today, more than half of the electricity generated already comes from renewable sources. That is an essential prerequisite for making e-mobility sustainable for passenger cars as well as trucks and buses.” He went on to say: “We have several innovative e-mobility projects in Sweden, for example, Scania will soon begin testing self-driving electric buses for Stockholm’s public transport system.” Sweden is one of Europe’s largest markets for electric vehicles and therefore an important sales market for the Group’s electric models. With reference to Prince Carl Philip’s test drives, the Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Technical Development, Dr. Frank Welsch, commented: “Prince Carl Philip of Sweden is a talented racing driver and an expert on cars. He was a successful participant in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia from 2008 to 2011. And he visited the Rally Sweden and the Volkswagen Motorsport team. I am delighted that an acknowledged specialist is one of the first to test our new generation of electric vehicles that will hit the market from 2020. Sweden will be one of the major sales markets for our ID.” His Royal Highness Prince Carl Philip met with 34 Swedish startup entrepreneurs in Germany for Hannover Messe 2019 on his visit to the Volkswagen Smart.Production:Lab in the IT:City, Wolfsburg. These selected startups participated in an Innovation Day at Volkswagen where concepts and innovations such as electrically-powered automated transport concepts and virtual reality solutions as well as machine learning and artificial intelligence software tools were presented. The event was designed to intensify Swedish-German cooperation in the field of innovative manufacturing technologies and Industry 4.0. The Volkswagen Group is one of the largest industrial investors in Sweden. Scania invested €2.4 billion in Sweden in the last ten years. Scania produces trucks and buses in Europe, South America and Asia and is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sustainable transport solutions. 96,500 trucks and buses were delivered to customers in 2018 – 19,000 of which were built at the Swedish plant in Södertälje. 20,700 of Scania’s total workforce of 52,100 are employed in Sweden. In early 2018, Scania invested €10 million in the battery manufacturing company Northvolt. The collaboration concerns the industrial scale production of battery cells. A joint research consortium called European Battery Union led by Volkswagen and Northvolt was announced recently. The consortium is applying for funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy to finance the research, development and industrial scale production of battery technology. Furthermore, the Volkswagen Group is one of the largest car manufacturers in Sweden. 103,000 passenger cars and 16,700 trucks from the Group were registered in Sweden in 2018, accounting for a 27.4 percent share of the passenger car market and a 30 percent share of the truck market. The Volkswagen Golf, Passat and Tiguan are among the top ten passenger car models in Sweden’s registration statistics, putting Volkswagen in second place behind Volvo. Electric vehicles accounted for a market share of eight percent in Sweden in 2018. The Volkswagen Passat GTE Leslie Bothge- photos Volkswagen

Carmakers See Sales Drop Due to Low Inventories During August
Shrinking inventories created by shortages of key components undercut sales during August, according to carmakers reporting sales figures for August with manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai and Kia reporting year-over-year declines in sales.
While Toyota’s overall sales fell in August, Lexus managed to post a very small increase.
Toyota Motor North America said sales slid 2% in August with the Toyota division sales falling 2.4 percent. But Lexus reporting 0.5 percent increase from August 2020 when the industry was climbing out of the hole created by the pandemic-related lockdowns, which brought the industry to a standstill during the previous spring.
American Honda said its sales fell 15.6% last month with sales by the Honda division dropping 17.9% while the Acura division posted a 4.7% increase as sales of Acura branded passenger car climbed 11.5 percent.
The Honda HR-V and Passport set monthly sales records for the seventh straight month in August. The CR-V Hybrid powers Honda electrified vehicles to best August sales mark; Honda has set a new electrified vehicle sales record in every month of 2021, while demand for the new Civic sedan was “off the charts” with dealers quickly selling every unit they received, Honda reported.
Demand for the all-new Acura TLX Type S resulted in a strong month and driving the Acura sedan’s sales to its best August since 2017.
South Korean brands also took a hit
Hyundai’s sales were down last month as its SUV sales slumped enough to offset a rise in car sales in August.
Hyundai Motor America reported total August sales of 56,200 units, a 4% decrease compared with August 2020. Hyundai total car sales increased 8%, but sales of utility vehicles dropped last month.
Genesis Motor America Inc. sold 4,975 vehicles, a 266% jump from a year ago. SUVs led sales for the luxury automaker with the with the new GV80 paving the way.
Kia also reported a drop of 5.3% from a year earlier and blamed parts shortages trimming inventories.
“Kia continues to see record demand in 2021 with sales up 35% year-over-year, and an average of more than 62,000 sales per month, despite challenges facing the industry regarding parts availability and overall inventory,” said Eric Watson, vice president, sales operations, Kia America.
“Further proof of Kia’s appeal came when the brand earned the highest number of J.D. Power Initial Quality Awards for the third straight year. Looking forward, we are confident that Kia will continue to outperform the industry in the third quarter and beyond,” he said.
Mazda defied the odds in August, posting a 4% increase on a year-over-year basis.
Not all makers suffering
Mazda North American Operations reported sales of 27,262 units up 4.6% from the year-ago period with the CX-5 accounting for more than half the company’s sales during August. So far this year, Mazda’s sales are up 39.2% from a year ago, the company said.
Subaru of America Inc. reported sales of 49,373 vehicles for August, a 15% decrease compared with year-ago results. The brand pointed to inventory constraints caused by the global microchip shortage as the primary reason for the falloff.
However, the automaker also reported year-to-date sales of 420,748, a 12% gain compared with the same period in 2020.
“Sales remain steady despite battling the ongoing microchip shortage, and our retailers continue to deliver strong results,” said Thomas Doll, president and CEO, Subaru of America Inc.
Last week, analysts predicted U.S. auto retail sales were expected to decline in August, as the global semiconductor shortage coupled squeezed inventory at dealerships.

The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe looks and feels like a million bucks
New Post has been published on https://appradab.com/the-2021-hyundai-santa-fe-looks-and-feels-like-a-million-bucks-2/
The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe looks and feels like a million bucks
Smile for the camera!
Craig Cole/Roadshow
Proponents of trickle-down economics argue that cutting taxes for the wealthy or large corporations benefits everyone because their extra money can be invested to create more jobs or pay higher wages. Of course, it’s dubious whether this actually makes any economic sense, but such a top-down approach does work in other fields, like the automotive industry. Case in point: the Hyundai Palisade. With oodles of refinement and an upscale interior, it’s one of our favorite three-row SUVs. Now, the Palisade’s all-around excellence trickles down to the smaller Santa Fe, which has been significantly updated for 2021.
Like
Potent and refined engine
Comfortable ride
Upscale interior
Don’t Like
Low-speed transmission performance
Lack of standard driver aids
The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe features mildly reworked exterior styling with a broader looking front end, fresh wheel designs and a few smaller tweaks. New powertrains are offered, too, including a 2.5-liter base engine as well as potent 2.5-liter turbo I4. A hybrid version is also available, plus there are more safety and convenience features. Finally, just like its big brother, the Santa Fe is now available in swanky Calligraphy trim. Inside and out, the vehicle feels expressive without being garish, a feat that’s tough to achieve.
Dressed in sultry Calypso Red paint, this top-of-the-line model does a convincing impression of a luxury vehicle. Its seats are trimmed with supple Nappa leather and the headliner and roof pillars are swaddled in a suede-like material. The Calligraphy also comes with a full-color head-up display, premium trim and express up and down rear windows, to name a few of its myriad enhancements. Sure, there are some hard plastics here and there, but the dashboard is mostly soft and there are miles of contrast-color stitching.
This adventurously designed interior is also extremely functional. The physical climate controls and other secondary switches for things like the audio system are super easy to see and reach, mounted on the Santa Fe’s upward-sloping center console. This is also where the push-button shifter lives, which is immediately intuitive. A skosh more storage space up top between the front seats would be nice, but there is an open bin underneath all those switches and knobs, the perfect place to stash a purse or small carry-out order.
Just like the Palisade, comfort is one of the Santa Fe’s strong suits. The Calligraphy model’s front bucket chairs, with their extendable lower cushions, are long-haul cushy, and so is the backseat. Passengers that don’t get to ride shotgun are still coddled by excellent accommodations, as the rear bench’s bottom cushion is a great height above the floor and there’s plenty of headroom and legroom to go around. The Santa Fe’s cargo capacity clocks in at 36.4 cubic feet behind the rear backrests. Fold them down and you get 72.1 cubes of junk-hauling space. That’s more room in each position than you get in a Chevy Blazer or Nissan Murano, though the Ford Edge and Honda Passport are slightly more capacious.
Is this a luxury-car interior? Nope, it’s just a Hyundai.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
As with passenger comfort and high-quality trimmings, there’s no shortage of available tech in this vehicle. Lower-end models now gain an 8-inch infotainment screen (1 inch larger than before), but fancier variants come with a 10.3-incher that also features embedded navigation. Limited and Calligraphy trims are graced with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, though this is optional on the midrange SEL trim. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range, though counterintuitively, they only connect wirelessly on the Santa Fe’s more basic grades. The up-level infotainment system is easily one of the better offerings available today, being both easy on the eyes and speedy. The user interface is also extremely intuitive and the system promptly responds to inputs, almost never stuttering or lagging. Really, there’s nothing to gripe about here, though the same can’t be said about the drivetrain.
The Santa Fe’s new 2.5-liter turbo-four is a real honey, super smooth and suspiciously silent. It cranks out 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, far more of each than either the base engine or the hybrid. This prodigious output gives the vehicle ample acceleration, serious scoot whether you’re taking off from a light or zinging down the highway. Despite this strong performance, the Santa Fe is also quite economical. With available all-wheel drive, this example is estimated to return 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined, though in mixed, real-world driving I’m getting around 24.5 miles out of each gallon of gasoline, better than the advertised median.
This frugal showing is aided by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It shifts quickly and smoothly once the vehicle is moving, but it’s not all roses. Unfortunately, when starting off, the gearbox feels quite unnatural as it connects the engine to the rest of the driveline. Minor judders are detectable and there are little surges and sags, like it doesn’t respond linearly to throttle inputs. Can we just have the eight-speed torque-converter automatic that comes with the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine? Please and thank you.
The Santa Fe’s 2.5-liter turbo-four is as potent as it is refined.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
The Santa Fe’s transmission may be its biggest dynamic weakness, but the rest of this vehicle’s driving experience is pleasant. The interior is incredibly quiet and the ride buttery-smooth. Sure, crisper steering would be nice, as this SUV is anything but sporty, and the brake pedal is on the touchy side, though these are minor complaints.
The Santa Fe offers plenty of advanced driver aids, though several of the most desirable ones are not standard. The base SE model features automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and a driver attention monitor, though you have to step up to the SEL trim to get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Naturally, highfalutin Limited and Calligraphy models come with pretty much everything, additional goodies like Remote Parking Assist, lane centering and adaptive cruise control. Hyundai’s implementation of those last two items is among the best in the business. When engaged, the Santa Fe tracks like a monorail, never sawing at the steering wheel or losing track of where it is. The adaptive cruise control is similarly smooth and confidence inspiring, whether you’re in stop-and-go traffic or bombing down the interstate.
The redesigned Hyundai Santa Fe is an excellent all-around utility vehicle.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
Thanks to its upscale interior, over-the-road refinement and avant-garde styling, the new Santa Fe is a screaming deal and an excellent midsize SUV, another home run for Hyundai.
Just like the three-row Palisade, the updated Santa Fe is an excellent all-around SUV, one that offers plenty of features and a near-luxury cabin in Calligraphy trim. You might expect this vehicle to cost a young fortune, but this is absolutely not the case. A base SE model, sans any extras, checks out for around $28,185 including destination fees, which are $1,185. But even the top-shelf example shown here is still an excellent value. As it sits, my tester stickers for $43,440 with just one option padding the bottom line, a $155 upcharge for carpeted floor mats.
