Dreamwalker: Deliberately Amateur
6.35 Spoilers!
So the loporrit tribal quests have come out and the background music of their area, Dreamwalker, and it’s a sort of electronic dance track and is quite the lil bop. So I did what every FFXIV player does and I went to find a nice loop of the track to listen to when I’m not otherwise at Hoper’s Hold.  In the comments, someone was commenting about how electronic music is in 4/4 time, which means that musical phrases should be 24 16 or 32 (thanks to the commenter whose username immediately left my head) "beats” per musical phrase.  I’m not versed enough in music theory terminology to explain it in depth, but I did learn from a fwb in university who is a DJ that electronic music “goes on 4s”.  every change in the music or bass drop should occur when the 4/4 time goes through itself on multiples of 4. Changes in Dreamwalker are happening every 22 beats instead.  The YouTube commenter seemed to indicate that this is evidence of a kind about Soken not quite knowing much about electronic music
to which i say not only no, but HELL no. Here’s the thing: Dreamingway decides that they want to do music.  They learn about it from the resources fuckin Sharlayan sent them. A loporrit made things to make music with, and started vibing.  A loporrit who didn’t have a DJ friend to explain to them that electronic music goes on 4s. And a composer who’s good enough to not only arrange a song like that, but still have its discordant time measure work.
Soken deliberately made Dreamwalker sound a little unproduced and amateurish because that is what it is.  It is the music this little loporrit had the cojones to create for no other reason than they felt like it. Masayoshi fucking Soken knows electronic music goes on 4s. Dreamingway doesn’t. Soken wrote the song that Dreamingway wrote, exactly as they would have written it. that’s cool as hell

FFXIV Patch 6.4 Details Incoming as Live Letter 76 Date Announced
Tumblr media
Square Enix, the game's creator, has revealed the date for the upcoming producer livestream, which will include information on FFXIV patch 6.4. Naoki Yoshida, the game director, and Toshio Murouchi, the community producer, present these regular broadcasts. They usually spend several hours discussing everything that will be included in the acclaimed MMORPG's next significant update. The game’s seventy-sixth “Letter from the Producer Live” will be focused primarily on FFXIV 6.4, the next big patch following on from FFXIV Endwalker, as the team builds towards its next full expansion. The team usually uses this first Live Letter for a new update to give an overview of all the major features and content that we can expect, while the following Live Letter goes more in-depth with gameplay demonstrations. As such, we don’t yet know everything coming in FFXIV patch 6.4 – but we do have some details. Firstly, Yoshi-P has previously said players can expect to see bigger updates to the FFXIV Island Sanctuary mode in 6.4, following a small round of additions in the previous patch. This should satisfy players who have already polished off all the aspects of the laid-back farming game side activity. We’d also expect to see plenty of the standard additions that come with a new FFXIV patch. This includes a continuation of the Main Scenario Quest, building ever more towards the FFXIV 7.0 story, and will likely feature at least one dungeon and trial along the way. The Pandaemonium raid series is set to reach its climax with a final four fights and their associated savage tiers. There’s also a good chance we’ll see another of the new Variant and Criterion Dungeons, FFXIV’s branching, repeatable story instances, along with new ways to enhance your Manderville weapons. It’s likely that these will arrive in patch 6.45, if they are included in the update, but they’ll still probably be mentioned during the livestream. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4CALXaPcN0 FFXIV Live Letter 76 – when and how to watch FFXIV Live Letter 76 airs on March 31 at 4am PDT / 7am EDT / 12pm BST / 1pm CEST. Note that clocks in the UK and Europe will have moved to their respective summer times by then. You can watch the presentation on the official FFXIV YouTube and Twitch channels. Note that the presentation will take place in Japanese only, although the slides shown will feature both Japanese and English text, so you should be able to follow along. We’ll also be sure to bring you all the key details from the Live Letter as soon as possible, so check back right here on PCGamesN or follow our social channels for that. In the meantime, check out all the latest on current FFXIV patch 6.35, and read about the renegade FFXIV modders aiming to help make Eorzea more welcoming for everyone. We’ve also picked out more of the best single-player MMOs on PC, if you love shared-world elements but prefer to enjoy your gameplay solo. Read the full article

FFXIV Deep Dungeon Expert Shares Their Eureka Orthos Tips and Thoughts
Tumblr media
One of the most interesting developments in FFXIV version 6.35 is the addition of the new deep dungeon Eureka Orthos, which delivers some of the most distinctive experiences in Final Fantasy 14. Eureka Orthos is one of the most difficult dungeons in Final Fantasy XIV, and while it can be fairly daunting, one of the mode's greatest players has shared some useful Eureka Orthos tips and methods with you. ‘Angelus Demonus’ is an FFXIV deep dungeon specialist, and recently showcased the mode during speedrunning event AGDQ 2023. He’s also made it through both Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High solo on all 19 jobs; a rather staggering feat given that just one solo clear can take well over a dozen hours for a single attempt and is considered among the toughest challenges in the entire game. “I would definitely consider my Astrologian clear in Palace of the Dead one I am proud of,” Angelus tells the FFXIV community team, citing “A nearly 5-6 month journey of over 19 attempts trying to get that clear” as his final solo clear for PotD. He shares some of his most heartbreaking moments, such as accidentally leaping into a Luring Trap on floor 193 while playing as a Dragoon. “I had a good laugh about it, though, even if it meant roughly 12 hours of climbing 193 floors went down the drain, haha.” So what does Angelus Demonus recommend to those starting out with solo deep dungeons? Community resources top the list, from written guides such as Maygi’s Palace of the Dead handbook to Angelus’s own YouTube channel which includes full-length live tutorials. But on top of that, “Play the job you have most fun with! You’re going to be in for potentially a long journey for your first solo title; it would be so much more fun to do it your way.” He also stresses the importance of being prepared to fail. Speaking about Eureka Orthos specifically, he notes that “The number of enemies that can one-shot you is insane, and I feel this deep dungeon requires so much more knowledge-gathering versus hoping you can react fast enough with a good amount of knowledge sprinkled in.” So learning is more important than anything, although even once you have your strategy you’ll still have to execute it almost flawlessly to survive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R_r8H16lp8 Outside of the challenge level, Angelus remarks upon the “noticeable amount of care and thought put into the design of Eureka Orthos.” He says the cave layouts remind him of Palace of the Dead, but “look so pretty with the different crystal colours and the bright lighting.” Topping that all off, he gives a special nod to the music – highlighting one instance where a muffled version of ‘Tumbling Down’ plays, giving you the feeling that players high above Eureka Orthos are fighting Cerberus in the Crystal Tower alliance raid. In closing, Angelus Demonus says, “The deep dungeon solo community is small but growing at an amazing rate. If you ever have questions or need tips and strategies, the community is out there ready to help and share as much intel as we can. Good luck out there!” If you’re still unsure which of the FFXIV jobs to take into Eureka Orthos, our handy guide should help you pick a favourite. If you’d prefer to take things at a slightly more leisurely pace, our FFXIV Island Sanctuary guide will ensure you get the most out of the farming game side activity that’s proven to be one of the highlights post-Endwalker. FFXIV Sale Makes Now a Great Time to Discover Everyone’s Favourite MMO
Tumblr media
It's a fantastic moment to learn why FFXIV is generally cited as one of the top MMORPGs of all time because Square Enix has just started a significant FFXIV sale. This is a fantastic opportunity to start for the first time, upgrade if you've loved the free trial, or hop back in and see Endwalker if you've taken a break thanks to the substantial discounts on both the main game and its expansions. But wait, I hear you exclaim, doesn’t the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV have a free trial that includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion with no restrictions on playtime? Yes, as you might have heard if you’ve spent much time online, it does indeed – but there’s so much more to FFXIV than just those first two story arcs, and what better time to jump in than now? Alternatively, perhaps you’re already a free trial player and you’re looking to buy into the full thing. After all, while there are no playtime restrictions and you can level all the way up to 60, you are fairly limited in certain ways while playing on a free account. No joining a free company (FFXIV’s guild system), no directly messaging other players, no retainers for item storage, no access to the player markets to buy and sell gear – there’s certainly plenty of benefits to making the upgrade. The FFXIV Endwalker expansion is 50% off, as is its digital collector’s edition. Both of these also include the two prior expansions, Stormblood and Shadowbringers, the latter of which features some of the best story content in any RPG game period, although you’ll need a copy of the starter edition of the game to play them. If you haven’t ever bought FFXIV, then don’t worry – the Starter Edition, Complete Edition, and Complete Collector’s Edition are all 50% off as well. The FFXIV Complete Edition is the one to go for if you don’t already own the base game, and it’ll get you everything there is in the current edition of the game along with 30 days of playtime. Of course, it’s important to note that once you buy in, you will need an active subscription to play – so if you’re not 100% sold, then stick with the free trial for now. FFXIV spring sale discounts The FFXIV sale is live from March 1-15 on the Square Enix store, along with on the PlayStation store for console players. You can play on the same account across both platforms, but you’ll need to own a copy of the game and expansions on PC and on console, so perhaps if you’ve ever considered making the switch now is a good time to do so. Here are all the prices for the discounted editions in the sale: - FFXIV Starter Edition – £14.99 GBP / $19.99 USD - FFXIV Complete Edition – £17.49 GBP / $29.99 USD - FFXIV Complete Collector’s Edition – £42.49 GBP / $69.99 USD - FFXIV: Endwalker – £14.99 GBP / $19.99 USD - FFXIV: Endwalker Collector’s Edition – £22.49 GBP / $29.99 USD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTTtd6bnhFs You can find these discounts on the Square Enix store (UK and EU link/US link). Unfortunately, it looks like this sale doesn’t currently extend to the Steam version, so if you want to switch over you’ll need to buy the full thing, as expansions from the standalone launcher don’t cross over with the Steam edition of the game. The FFXIV patch 6.35 release date is right around the corner, so there’s plenty more on the way if you’re an active player. If you’re just stepping into Endwalker, don’t miss our FFXIV Island Sanctuary guide, along with our tips on how to play the FFXIV Reaper and the FFXIV Sage – the two jobs introduced in the expansion.
