I know there was and is sexism in society but also I get really annoyed at how authors today write about it in the past
#idk what it is exactly but like.#it just becomes one long pity ditty and all about power dynamics and victims#and in reality I don’t think that’s how it worked a lot of times#i think that’s how The System works in our heads but I don’t think it translates to reality and relationships in the past#not the sexism itself but our idea of it#someone gave me Jodi Picoult’s new By Any Other Name to read and I’m trying to read it but it’s setting me a bit on edge#some of the earliest known writing is not a tablet from a woman to her husband telling him they need to be able to pay the grocery bill for#this#Katherine Sutton wasn’t writing liturgical dramas in England in the 1300’s for you to make out like the First Female Poet Published In#The 1600’s was Unprecedented#and what about the Welsh poets (women) of the century before??
