it’s so weird to me when people try to portray abed as robotic and detached when that’s obviously not the truth. he frequently expresses strong emotions, whether he’s excited about film and tv or upset about a show being cancelled. the other characters frequently worry about his reactions to things and he has difficulty processing complex feelings. these are not the behaviors of someone who’s cold and unfeeling. yes, he’s logical, but feeling is not the antithesis of thinking. you can be both, and abed clearly is, finding comfort in structure and rules while also having big and challenging emotions around change. he just expresses things differently because of his autism, and while it’s true he struggles with understanding/empathizing with other people, he also cares deeply about those that matter to him.
#it’s abed hyperanalysis time#although when is it not#low empathy autism doesn’t mean you’re selfish or don’t care about people#of course abed isn’t perfect#but he’s a very real and positive portrayal of an autistic person#community#community nbc#abed nadir
