made the mistake of telling my mother how much I love POTP and she attempted to watch it (we love that she tried to check out something I like, regardless of how it actually turned out 😅) and quit after winslow goes to prison because she didn’t understand that In Order To Critique The Shitty Things People In The Music Industry Do, You Have To Show At Least A Few Shitty Things They Do and it’s like. at least watch it all the way through before you decide you hate it

#like can we PLEASE embrace nuance and complexity #yes! swan and his entourage do horrible things ! he is literally a mouthpiece for the literal devil!!#the whole point of his character is that he is Literally The Worst and Winslow has too much hubris to admit defeat #but winslow still has enough of his soul left to know that Swan Must Go and that Phoenix Must Be Protected #it’s about vanity and hubris and the desire for fame and power and corruption and decadence #every time I watch it it gets better to me. because it’s so fucking well made #I’m gonna die on this hill and next time I’m at my moms I WILL be prepared to debate #I’ll fight anybody in a denny’s parking lot for this movie to get the respect it deserves
