#the point of the humanoid-but-not-human thing is that the reader doesn’t know what it is#the uncaniness of it is what makes it scary#i just don’t understand why people want to ruin an unknowable terror by making it knowable and therefor less terrifying#especially when ‘skinwalker/wendigo’ are just used as labels to slap on any random creepy thing#it’s meaningless because we’ve stripped away the cultural context to make it just another movie monster#i have a lot of feelings because ‘uncanny valley’ horror is my favorite kind ever#i read a lot of it and there’s nothing scarier to me than something i can’t name
